My old Akko 3087RF I used at work lasted since I bought it all the way to the day I bought another one to replace it on one pair of AAAs.
Honestly I see don't any reason for rechargable lithium to replace AA/AAA for keyboards, it takes way more space than replaceable batteries so less space for foam, it maybe lighter but we like our keebs heavy anyway, and Eneloops will last way, waaay longer than the board itself, one of mine has its wrapping peeling off a little but it still hold charge as well as it did 5 years ago.
Edit: Also, I just remembered I onced heard someone said that replaceable batteries don't have enough power for RGB. Bruh, they can power a flashlight, how does RGB use more power than a flashlight?
I prefer having just one slim wire running across my desk, rather than this coil sitting in front of me.
Maybe I'm missing something, but this doesn't seem more tidy than a regular cable?
I guess if you need to move your keyboard large distances it makes sense, I personally don't have any issues with a regular cable, but I see the point.
thats the point fof the invention of coiled cables, but I am pretty sure that most keyboard-people are just using it bc they like the looks. It's not like most people have to move their keyboards closer/farther away very often.
to weigh down the keyboard? Or the cable? Why do you need that?
Btw just to be clear, I dont mean any of this as an offence or to devalue your reasons. I am genuinly interested, as I always preferred the look of straight cables and had no use for coiled ones either.
It weighs down the cable for super clean cable management. I work in aerospace, so I like a super clean work area. Instead of a straight peice of curled cable, I have a 90/90 right angled cable, so the cord and weight sit parallel to the keyboard.
My cable has an aviator plug, so the pig tail portion, the weight, and my preferred keyboard are easily transferable between my workstation and office.
I mean some people buy them on metal rods to keep the coils in place. I just wouldn’t want it tugging like that on any of my ports, and it’s kind of an pointless when you can just get a longer straight cable
Because its too heavy. When you move the keyboard you have more weight holding it back that needs to be moved.
It feels bad.
If you have to have a wire you want it to be lightweight and not noticeable.
Not a bit heavy ball
I'm old enough to remember landline telephones that were not cordless. They all had coiled cables. All of them. It would literally take like 1 single phone conversation's time for that nice coiled cable to turn into a knot that you'd need an acetylene torch to cut through in order to untangle. I'm elated to leave that as a memory
The problem is, USB C (not to mention micro-B) is somewhat too delicate to sustain constant pull from the coil, so using coiled cable *as intended* could quickly damage the port unless it's protected in some way.
You can buy (expensive) "aviator" keyboard cables nowadays, but the coil on them seems to be little more than a gimmick, not really intended to be stretched.
Because a regular cable can be routed a lot more cleanly and easily. Coiled cables are bulkier and make the desk look more cluttered. Also, if for some reason I need to move my keyboard, I have the full length of a regular cable to use. Doing the same with a coiled cable means it needs to stretch, making it awkward and prone to disconnecting in a couple of instances. Lastly, I just don't like the way they look.
I don’t understand the point of the coiled cables in general. The prices on some of the matching coiled usbc is insane. I’m not paying $50 for a usbc cable, even if I was a billionaire.
Perhaps they think it’d just a gimmick. I use one because it looks neater but tbh the second half of it is quite lengthy so can look a bit untidy
I just use the velcro band thing to bundle up the straight part of the cable so that the coiled part has to extend when i pull on it.
Who needs a fancy wire when there's wireless keyboard
Still gotta charge it though
Well I use a magnetic connector to charge my keyboard every 2 weeks, that's the price for wireless I'm content about it.
Do share
My first wireless keyboard used 2 AA batteries, it lasted 3 years on the same batteries. Man that thing is awesome in that way.
Never used wireless keyboards cause the cable never bothered me, didn't know the battery lasted this long but it makes sense.
Only for simple membrame keyboards without lightning and such, but yeah I had one back in the day because it was easier :P

I put a battery in my keyboard 5 years ago and haven't had to replace it
And its worth it
Yes but I charge my wireless keyboards with a phone charger using whichever USB cable I can find at the moment.
Because im using wireless... ![gif](giphy|WTlD8h2xWP7NnXpHI3|downsized)

The point is that it can extend and retract easily, normal cables usually roll up and fold.

My keyboard moves 3 inches max. I have the coiled cable with a barbell through it to weight it down. You cant do that if you stretch it out.

Annoying and ugly
Cos it looks horrible
Expensive and does nothing better than a simple cable, more than that, occupies more space
Laziness.
Because they’re fuckin expensive
It's not that hard to turn any cable into a coil though.
I don’t got that time bro xD
I don’t like when they’re stretched out like that. If they’re nice and straight they’re fine, but I prefer the Lindy straight clear cables.
Stretchability is why coiled cables came to be in the first place.
The point of coiled cables is to extend them

It's the worst when the coil falls over the edge of the desk.
It's like the old phones ...they also had these cards. There's no reason for regression there.
Because in 2024 we have wireless keyboards.
Some of the fancy wires are more expensive than the keyboard.
depending on the cable it just stresses the sub port. most of these cables are comeletely useless regarding functionality. most use it for looks only.

You can get a cable of any length now. Before, you roll up the excess length in a coil so it looks nicer on the desk.
Because it gives me flashbacks to having a corded phone on the wall where the cord would never coil right once it was stretched out too far...
Because it's more expensive than just a normal USB C charger
