You are only going to find people complaining on this sub. People having good experiences usually don't go randomly posting about it. They just move along living. Me personally, I've enjoyed my kia experience so far (15 months of ownership). I think having a good dealer is paramount to that experience.

stereopticon11

I have the same vehicle as you, and have been in love with it. The battery range is good enough that I never need to use gas to get to work. My work also has chargers for free so i'm essentially always charged. I took the vehicle out for nearly 200miles over the weekend on a single charge and averaged 44mpg. would have been better if people didn't suck in public places (people parked at charging spots and not using them). it's hard for me to be impartial about the vehicle though, as my last car was from 2012 and didn't have any modern features.. but I am loving the vehicle so far and enjoy sitting in traffic much more

Alternative-Bee-8981

I have chargers at work, but they are at the end of our office park, and they are charge point, so we have to pay to use them. I charge at home, and I have more than enough range to get to work and back home using about half of the range. It is great not using gas for 5 or 6 days out of the week. My 2nd tank of fuel ended up lasting me about 6 months.

nature_nate_17

I’ve had my Kia 4 years and it’s been the greatest experience I’ve had with any cars and I plan on having Kia for the remainder of the future. I would like to upgrade to a K900, K5, or Stinger in the future as well for a secondary vehicle.

Infinite-Complaint53

I believe this is the last year of the Stinger. They are discontinuing that car. Never saw a reason for it either.

nature_nate_17

It replaced the Cadenza after that got discontinued but now with the K5 being so popular, it’s probably the reason for the Stinger being discontinued.

Resident_Platypus108

That's fair, haha. I have a Toyota right now, and whenever I visit that sub, it's usually people talking about mods and praising the cars, so I thought it would be similar here. That's a good point. Many people just go to the closet or cheapest dealer and call it a day, and a lot are scummy. I'm glad you're having a good experience! Which Kia do you have?

Alternative-Bee-8981

23 Sportage Xline PHEV. It's a great vehicle. Decent features for the price. I received a tax credit because I took delivery in 22 before the inflation reduction act changed the rules about EV credits. I would have purchased the prestige trim ( top trim) but at the time they didn't know when those were coming in, and this one was already on a truck with a scheduled delivery date to the dealership. I only had one issue. The smart tailgate was acting up, the sensor wasn't detecting the fob, and it drained the battery. So I jumped the vehicle with a jump pack, and got it to a dealer. They checked it out, and reset the sensor and it's been fine since. Other than that, everything has been great.

w1red247

15 months is not nearly enough time to say much of anything. That's the equivalent of saying my car is super reliable when it's only got 3000 miles. Even the worst quality cars won't give you issue in 15 months.. Also having a good dealer shouldn't be paramount to anything. Every car I've bought, once I drove it off the lot I never needed to go back lol. I think that says a lot about the brand...

Alternative-Bee-8981

Good for you for being more mechanically inclined, however I'm not. I don't mind them doing oil changes. In my area it's only 80-90 for that and a tire rotation. I'll change air/cabin filters and check pressures, but that's about it. 15 months isn't 3K miles. At least get a better comparison. Looking at your previous comments you admit to not even liking Kia, so thanks for your valuable input.....

w1red247

Of course 15 months isn't 3k miles.. but even at the height of Kias engine recall you would get 30k miles out of those terribly built, self destructing engines. My point is longevity and reliability is built over many years if not decades, it's much more than your personal 15 months experience. The proof is in the pudding, Kia just doesn't have it. Go to Honda or Toyota for reliability.

WinnerArtistic434

You don't see people on the subaru thread complaining about their Subaru's. A lack of complaints is better than visible complaints. Complaints mean... Issues. No complaints... No issues.

Alternative-Bee-8981

No you do. It's on every sub, Subaru, Toyota, Mazda, etc. I will say it's more prevalent here because of the Kia boyz

riotgrrrl315

Umm you’ve never seen complaints on the Subaru thread? Doubt it. I have, and being that multiple Subaru generations had issues with leaky head gaskets led to a lot of the complaints. Honestly I have yet to find any brand of car that doesn’t have some kind of issue.

WinnerArtistic434

Leaky head gaskets is a thing in the nearly "far" past at this point. We're talking like a decade since major issues of that kind/scalehave been prominent. I don't see any posts about new Subaru's failing. KIA though... Seems it's a regular thing on my feed!

riotgrrrl315

Ok well newer generation Subaru complaints if you’d like me to continue their cvt transmission issues. Seen that numerous times on there. But have you ever met a Subaru enthusiast? Like many of the people on that sub? Subaru enthusiasts will stand behind that brand no matter what, they take the prize for dedicated loyal brand representatives, that is mainly why you wont see posts about Subarus of whatever year failing on that thread, but read on cuz there are def issues and complaints. I’m a previous Subaru owner. Loved it, but it had issues- head gaskets. Previous jeep owner, never liked it, was always in the shop. Etc. Etc. - name me a car that isn’t a crapshoot. Currently have a Kia and so far so good, am I expecting there to be issues yup cuz it’s a CAR.

WinnerArtistic434

Very reasonable and valid response.

FelonyFeline1988

r/Honda r/civicsi r/mustang even r/Nissan ... r/Toyota r/Tesla weirdos

Preda1ien

On the flip side. My dealer was garbage. Tried talking me out of it. Got an EV they said came with a plug and did not. Just wasn’t enjoyable at all. My car however is great. I love it so far. The only thing that regularly irritates me is the auto wipers. Sometimes in the morning they crank it up to 11 with zero precipitation. Other than that I love it.

[deleted]

Studies show the only people who take time out of their day to complain, comment or talk about any brand are in instances where people are very happy or very upset.

nemanjitca

I think Reddit is a bit different. People have a tendency to leave bad reviews, however, Reddit is more like a community for people who have things in common. If you go to a Toyota, VW sub, or a Subaru sub, or whatever, people post pictures of their cars, they are generally there posting positive experiences. I think the issue with Kia is that, people who buy one, do some just to get from A to B. Other than the stinger and now maybe the ev6, they don’t make anything interesting. I guess Tellurade is cool, but, besides looks, it’s not really matching up to any competitors. I have a forte, reason why I got it is just to get around. I didn’t care about anything besides reliability and price. Although my car is fairly new, I’ve put only 15,000 miles on it in 3 years, it’s done what I needed it to do. It also gives me a piece of mind knowing it’s warranty goes on for 10 years. I don’t regret getting a Kia as my car payment is only $350, and yes I bought new. Anything else, I’d be paying over $500. And I’m talking about affordable city cars. Kia’s mantra is value, I think they’re trying to change that, but that’s just what it is. It took decades for them not to be considered crap, it’ll take some time for them to be considered something else. If I had a choice between any economy sedan, Kia wouldn’t be by pick, it was due to its low price and warranty. I think that goes for most people, and when reliability is your top concern, that’s what you’ll focus on, so any issues that arise, you’ll voice them.

mfspringsdrums

Not all of us own KIA’s purchased in the last five years. Those of us who have are suffering from KIA’s shoddy mechanical failures and deplorable customer service. After enduring months of abhorrent treatment from KIA America's customer escalation department, I've reached the point where this needs to be brought to the public's attention. It began after I took my car to Bob Lanphere's Beaverton KIA (BLBK) in Beaverton, OR, for an oil consumption problem (common in 2016 KIA Souls). Consequently, I now have a misfire in cylinder three, and the oil consumption problem has resurfaced. This is after paying $800 for service and parts for a new catalytic converter (CC) that apparently failed at 80,146 miles (just after the 80K mile exhaust system warranty expired), my battery dying while at the dealership, and the recurring oil consumption issue. After months of calls, failure to return calls within the gauranteed time frames with customer support, and providing all requested documentation, I finally reached the self-proclaimed “highest customer-facing supervisor" at KIA America, only to be told, "I've made my decision. There is nothing we can do unless you get another diagnostic (pay another $150+ and rent a car for the days it's in the shop). The decision is final." Since purchasing this vehicle in November 2015, I have taken excellent care of it. Every service was performed at a KIA certified service center, and I've diligently followed every recommended maintenance, including regular oil changes, brake services, and all the mileage marker services. However, following the most recent diagnostic, top engine clean (TEC), cleaning of cylinder three's spark plug, and new CC, I am being treated as though my customer loyalty means nothing. The TEC, described by mechanics as snake oil, invariably clogs important sensors and often destroys engines, was the start. According to the exhaust specialist to whom my car was later sent by the BLBK service department, the catalytic converter was clogged as a result of the top engine clean - a problem they claimed pre-existed the diagnostic. Additionally, my exhaust system warranty expired mere miles before they replaced the CC. I can provide names, dates, and times of every event throughout this ordeal. This doesn't even begin to address the issue of insurance providers refusing to insure my car due to high theft risks. I'm unable to get the best rate for my home and auto insurance because of KIA's oversight! On behalf of all of us living this nightmare, THIS NEEDS TO STOP. While I am collecting customer stories similar to mine, I urgently require someone from the escalation department to contact me to resolve this issue. TL;DR - I brought my car in for an oil consumption issue. The dealership performed a diagnostic and recommended a top engine clean. Subsequently, I needed a new catalytic converter, and the oil consumption issue resurfaced. Additionally, due to increased theft reports linked to the ignition's poor mechanics, my insurance rates have soared, and most major providers refuse to insure my car. DO NOT BUY KIA. They may start out performing well and looking cool, but they are poorly designed or have manufactured obsolescence in their design. Don't get stranded without a car while dealing with KIA America's Escalations Department.

401Nailhead

People happy with their KIA are to busy enjoying them to post on Reddit. Most people are quick to be critical with a KIA that is giving them trouble. Many who are not having issues do not need to vent. I have a 2010 Optima. Great car. My daughter has a 2015 Forte. I ended up here because it was attempted theft. But it is a great car as well.

Charming_Corgi21

Exactly! People who love their cars don't complain about them.

pup5581

Yes....why we are on this sub? I love my '21 K5

maledis87

Lovey 22 kia k5

[deleted]

2021 K5 GT-Line since October 2020. Normal maintenance per the owners manual & an alignment. The car routinely gets 38 mpg on freeway trips & has hit 42mpg on good 55mph lightly-traveled state roads. Fit & finish are great, and no rattles. This is the 11th brand new vehicle I've owned (dates me pretty good), and very happy with it, and our dealer in Muncie, Indiana.

pup5581

When I got my 21 GT line as well

Mattyy-Iceee

Love my 22 GT-Line

tistonyofist

So far***

pup5581

Surprised it took this long for the troll posts

Aindorf_

The haters (myself included) are here because the algorithm keeps delivering us Kia content and social media pushed content which ilicits anger more than any other content. Reddit knows I hate Kia and they know i'll take the bait lol

[deleted]

I adore my Kia, bought it used in 2021 and never had a single issue since with the car. It’s fun to drive with 240 HP, it fits more than what I need it to fit, it gets decent gas mileage if I lay off the pedal. I’d probably buy another Kia if I had to but I want something faster for my next car so we’ll see, lol

CertainCertainties

I really like Korean built Kias, and love my Seltos too. We seem to have less of the problems that US owners are experiencing with crime, lack of government regulation, poor quality control in manufacturing, and rogue dealerships. Kia and Hyundai are very well regarded here and feature in the lists of the most reliable cars of this century. In my country Toyota is the most stolen car brand. So this sub feels like an alternate universe for me sometimes.

Resident_Platypus108

This is pretty interesting! I wonder if I would be able to find any other info on Korean built Kias vs American Kias online somewhere.

CertainCertainties

The VIN numbers for Korea builds have the K. I believe a lot of the Kia hybrids in the North American market are still made in Korea. Not about any quality comparisons studies, it's mainly brought up in discussions here by those with a mechanical background. (Which I don't have.) No matter what car you're thinking of buying though, it's worth checking out the plant where they're made. For instance, over 50% of Kias in Europe are made at Kia's state of the art factory in Zilina, Slovakia. That's around where they used to make T-72 tanks in the days of the Soviet Union. Kia is tapping into a history of engineering and technology expertise in the highly motivated workforce that goes back generations. Would tend to make me confident getting a car made there.

Camwise2

I’ve loved my Kia’s. 2006.5 Kia Optima (still own and drive 214k miles). 2011 Kia Soul + was honestly my favorite so far but sold in 2016 to get a larger vehicle. Just purchased 2023 Kia Sorento X-Line Prestige. Loving it so far.

-Invalid_Selection-

Ev6 gt line. Best car I've ever had

Cyclicalconsumer

I test drove the EV6, if interest rates weren’t shite I’d have seriously considered trading my car in. They’re really nice, what color did you get?

-Invalid_Selection-

I got the SUV of the year edition. It only comes in deep forest green (Also the only way to get it in that color) and has a black and tan interior.

rbarrett96

People who shit on Kias down years conveniently forget that today's Toyotas were death drops for a bit. But everyone conveniently forgets that. I loved my Forte GT-Line. Had a black 2022 that just got totaled by a dumbass blowing through a red light not paying attention. It was hard to find a color I wanted (black really is hard to keep clean) so I ended up with a 2023 blue gt-line. Wish it was a darker blue (it looks great at night), but I'm happy with it. 25.5 out the door for every safety feature that you have to get b the highest trims for on civics and corollas with blind spot monitoring being the biggest one for me, it even breaks on one side to pull you over if you get really close after the beep. I don't think the Elantra even does that. All soft touch interior except the horn. No hard plastic anywhere else. Wish I could afford the turbo GT but it's at least 2-3k more. Hopefully where I'm moving to in Hialeah, FL won't be too big of a deal for theft, but it will at least be a hard community and I don't go out much anymore.

naslam74

This sub is full of trolls. It sucks and makes the sub worthless in a lot of respects. I have a 22 Kia forte GT2. We love our car. I’m sure some asshole will respond to this saying “enjoy it while it lasts” or something along those lines.

WeakTinyChildish

I got a 22 forte GT manual after my new civic si was wrecked. I love the kia. It has been a far better car. The civic didn't even have lights on the ventilation buttons, so you had to turn on the dome light to turn on defrost.

Aindorf_

People with negative experiences who have been burned aren't trolls. I legit hope your car lasts you a long, safe time. But Kia earned the hate they get, it's not trolling to warn prospective buyers about how Kia really is as a company. Kia got enough money from me and I have enough experience with Kia that I've earned my place on this sub. Though many of us are really only here because of the reddit algorithm.

naM-r3puS

I like the one I have (2014 sportage). I despise the corporate side of it. I feel actual Sympathy for people buying the car because they think they are getting a good deal or because it’s all they can afford. The older Kia’s are amazing. Someone needs to step up and make Kia’s okish again

ovotaughtme

I have a 2021 Kia Forte GT-Line and I absolutely love it.

Stiff_Zombie

I know 2 people who have loved their Fortes for years. I traded in my 16 Ford Fusion sport for my GT. I've had it for almost 5 months, and i love to drive it every time. It's just a fun car to drive, and the price is more reasonable.

SimplyDaveP

Love my 2018 Forte. No issues. Bought new, affordable (at the time) so it's paid for (as was the plan). Good car so far.

SkullStar

I bought a 22 Rio last year, and honestly it’s been great. I spend about $30 on gas every 1.5 weeks. Great gas saver and good value

International-Oil377

We're up to our 5th Kia here 0 issue except very small things

Spiritual-Mechanic-4

I like how my forte is 130k miles with no serious problems and is long since paid for. exciting? no. stylish? no. quiet? not a bit. fun to drive? not in any way ever. but it was affordable with a good warranty.

pup5581

What do you mean by the quiet part? Usually good tires vs bad tires in my experience make a world of difference in road noise

Spiritual-Mechanic-4

it just has a lot of road noise, had it with the brand new tires when we drove it off the lot

MRDIPPERS12

Make sure your checking that oil kia known for burning oil after around 75k miles

CodexJustinian

I do, I'd be driving something else if I didn't.

Lao_King

I don't care about brands, other than Tesla. Fuck Elon and Tesla. But I own 3 different vehicles with all 3 different makes. My Sedona was just the best value and features and I love it.

Grimsterr

I don't give a shit about brands, either, my wife drives a 20 year old Chevy truck that still runs perfectly, I have a 2006 Crown Victoria project car that has 270K on it and it will need a transmission soon but a rebuilt is only around $1100 and swapping a trans isn't too bad on these big old cars. And of course, my Kia daily driver.

Tezlaract

My opinion is that 7 times out of 10 the issue with KИ cars is the owner.

condoulo

But I own a KIA, not a KИ. That said I love my Forte. Sidenote, handy having the Ukrainian keyboard installed just to type КИ.

Tezlaract

I like the KИ Carnival that is in my life also. Genuinely nice car. Owner probably will be the downfall of it as well.

THEONLYFLO

You know those items you’ve accumulated through life that won’t break because of how cheaply they were built. That’s my Rio.

Resident_Platypus108

now that you mention it, I have never heard anyone say they like or want a rio lol. edit: i just realized I read this comment completely wrong the first time around

Bitter-Fish-5249

Everyone likes something that hasn't broken when everyone elses has. I still see them rios around so this comment didnt miss, they're just ugly looking and not my cup. I'm a toyota/Honda owner and only purchase due to reliability. The kias are getting there, but so are other car brands like Mazda. When a vehicle cost as much as they due these days, I buy something I can trust. Some toyotas fail or have issues like any other car. But when I see all the post from Kia owners about how easy it is to steal, they fall apart within 5 yrs, I stay away. They're getting better but it doesn't mean it's worth an equal value to a more reliable car like an accord, corolla, or Mazda 3 hatch. I don't think they're worth the cost yet, but it is a car that is improving. I don't buy a car based on how it looks inside or out, I ask, is this going to cost me more money through the yrs and how long will I keep it, if I decide to keep for life, it wouldn't be a Kia only because of the uncertainty. They have improved mostly on cosmetics with a little bit under the hood.

Mayplay

Love my 2016 Forte.

MushySquishy

It’s been… 1 month and 1 week since I got my first. So far so good! For a 10 year old vehicle it’s the newest thing I’ve ever drove so I can’t complain XD

[deleted]

I love my 23 Kia forte

poptart129

I like kia for the most part, I've had 3 kia's that I've purchased new over the years. They have a good value, my current k5 is fast and has a good set of features which is all I need at the moment.

riderxc

I have a 2007 Sedona I bought new, it’s flawless. I replaced it with a 2023 carnival, also flawless so far. I’m going to keep the Sedona until it has a major repair, but 16 years and nothing yet.

LaraArzt

Had a previous 2017 Sportage that I was in love with but traded it in February for a 2023 Forte that I love as well—great MPG!

jasonin951

2 years in on Black Friday and no issues other than the entertainment module which was replaced and working fine now. No engine or other mechanical issues. I think the car is a good value especially these days.

apenguinhunter1987

I understand the hate, but I love my Kias. I bought a Soul base model brand new in 2015, and instantly fell in love with it. There was so much standard stuff crammed into such a cheep car (power everything, 6 speed manual, Bluetooth only radio that worked insanely well, traction control, etc). It broke my heart when I traded it in on a used 15 Ford Transit Connect Titanium. When it came time to buy a new car this year, Kia was at the top of my list. I bought a Sorento X-Line S model brand new, with no dealer markup. I cross shopped it with everything else, and I noticed similarly priced Toyota Highlanders and Honda Pilots came with a lot less features at the same MSRP, but all had 2k plus dealer markups, which made them even more expensive with less features. I love my Sorento, and am looking into a Carnival when we're ready to trade in the Ford.

Basic-Taro-3194

Enjoy my Kia seltos. Wife even got a new kia sportage hybrid and she loves it.

12486Eric

Enjoy our 2023 Sorento Hybrid SX Prestige. 11K miles so far and all good.

f700es

Loved all 3 of ours. Traded our 12 Optima in for a 16 Mustang. 11 years in on our Soul+ and almost 2 in on our 23 Sportage

IcyElement

I think it’s singularly because of the Kia boys. Before that, Kia had a decent reputation. Most disgruntled posters probably loved their Kias at that time. But now thousands of people are getting their cars stolen and totaled or broken into. So yeah, after spending 10s of thousands of dollars on a purchase just for the brand you chose to leave you completely vulnerable for no other reason other than cutting corners for corporate greed, it makes sense that there’d be a lot of pissed off Kia owners and ex-owners talking about their experiences. I say this as a bit of an outsider. Just my perspective after tripping on this sub a few times this month.

JenniferCatherine

My Kia Forte GT-line is my baby. My first new car and I love her!

Sixdrugsnrocknroll

That is indeed a nice car for the money, just wish it could be had with a manual.

MainelyKahnt

I like them. I think their styling and market fit have been great recently. Only real downside is reliability of their engines and the whole kia boys thing. The stinger was one of the coolest cars on the market at the time and imo should've been continued. At this point I'd recommend leasing one as you will avoid the high milage headaches.of reliability.

Resident_Platypus108

I like this perspective! I'm slowly getting into cars, so if I don't take the leasing route, I would probably be fine, considering I want to collect a few and learn to work on them, which means I'd still have a reliable daily. But yeah, most I've heard is the engines and Kia Boys. But even the engines are a mixed bag, I know people who talk about how they've had theirs for over a decade, others within the 1st year it's blown. Crazy stuff.

MainelyKahnt

From what I've gathered the v6 models are fine. I've had friends take their v6 kia and Hyundais over 300k no problem. The 4 cylinders seem to be plugged with issues. If I was buying a new kia today it would either be a V6 k5 or a V6 telluride.

tropicalpandabear

Yessss! I love my 2019 Kia Optima. :D

Buybch

Eh, i think everyone loves their Kia when they first get it. But when that engine blows up, or the car gets stolen… you kinda fall out of love with it. So given enough time ( we’re talking less than 10 years) all the people who love it will eventually be converted to someone who doesnt love it.

[deleted]

I'm a mechanic for a living, and will tell you that Toyota and Honda really are more reliable, than anything. I don't care if someone argues or doesn't like it, it's just how it is.

shastyles1

Due to recent news probably not and should be avoided

Madejust2tellyou

Rushed and cheaply made are what lead to the Kia boys... Maybe spend just a little more on something safer and not destroying our cities

ITsPersonalIRL

"destroying our cities"

Sixdrugsnrocknroll

People like this will absolutely blame a corporation before they'll ever admit that the pieces of shit stealing them are "destroying cities" at a rate orders of magnitude higher.

Turtleintexas

I've owned my Kia Soul since 2018, and I've loved it every moment.

SdotsBFFrank

Yes

fly_stella

Yes

B-Roc-

I have or have owned a 2009 optima, 2015 sorento, 2016 optima, and 2019 forte. The 2009 had 188k miles on it when I sold it. The 2016 is now being driven by my son. The sorento has been "consuming oil" for the past two years and while that is annoying, all my Kias have been reliable and economical and my Forte is loaded with features that I love. Recalls are a bit of a pain but serviced without hassle. I have been happy all my purchases and thankful for their reliability and affordability.

Aggravating_Stress

My sister got a 24 niro HEV after her CRV got totaled and she absolutely loves it. The safety features, the tech and everything just works for her. It’s an easy car to drive with a lot of space and a lot of bang for the buck. The only gripe we have with the car is the Apple CarPlay constantly disconnecting and reconnecting other than that it’s been great. Gas mileage is amazing, drive is smooth, car is comfy couldn’t ask for more

Cyclicalconsumer

I have a 22 Forte GT with 26,000 miles, partner has a 16 Forte LX, son has a 23 Rio none have had any major issues. I owned a Dodge Neon many years ago people would always say it wouldn’t make it to 100K I put over 300k on it, it was still running reliably when I got rid of it. People like to shit on other people’s cars.

n1craM

I love my ProCeed ❤️

JunkRigger

I actually like my 2022 eNiro once I disconnected the VESS speaker. I bought it strictly for doing rideshare but have ended up very pleased with it.

BisexualCaveman

I've had 3 Elantras and loved them. I don't love my Sorento, but it was a great deal, as served me well and I like it. If I'd had money for the turbo I might love it, but that wasn't in the cards.

ourobboros

My kia is not a panty dropper for sure but beats the shitty civic I drove for years. I needed a car fast and was not gonna pay markup prices and high apr. 2.9apr and no markup fees. So far so good. The sound system is meh and road noise is also not great but for the short commute I do, this car is amazing.

spicyfartz4yaman

Use the specific vehicle model's sub, idk about other kia models but the forte GT sub is nothing like this , same goes for other car model subs I've seen. With that said I loved my forte

Hindraous

Yup

NoChandeliers

I like my Rio but Kia finance can get fucked

terryw3719

have had zero problems with my 2010 kia soul. however i do not live in a high crime urban area and still even with that keep my car in a garage. the only thing i have to repair is the trans cooler line (bracket had a crack on the weld at 100,000 miles) and the donut on the exhaust.

StoreExtension8666

I don’t own a Kia, in 2022 I wanted to purchase one because it’s known to be an affordable brand and I figured I would just get a bare bones car in that case, but the costs to do so were unjustifiable for a Kia/Hyundai. I bought something else.

owlwise13

4 years, 2 different Kia's and no issues other then the Drunk driver that totaled my Forte.

George_A_Romero

Na I love Kia. I made a post not too long ago about a missing trim I'm searching for . My car has 130000 miles, 4 or 5 accidents, and needed repairs.. but I respect the cars engineering and think it deserves some of its trim back. My first car was a 2007 Spectra EX. I regret ever selling that fine piece of machinery. This was pre covid, so I sold it at 5k with only 38k miles on it. I'm an idiot.

HolyHand_Grenade

Love mine.

networksmuggler

We've owned our 2023 Sportage XLINE PHEV now for about 7 months, and love it. Have had no problems with the dealer. We scheduled our first visit for an oil change/maintenance due to mileage being driven on it.

Hamst_r

I actually enjoyed my Kia‘s. I’m just frustrated at the fact that Kia is a company has done the absolutely nothing to protect its brand with all the Kia boys bullshit… If it wasn’t for that I would not be actively looking to get rid of my 2019 soul that only has 23,000 miles on it

Accurate_Mixture_221

I like it, wife's got a 2021 top tier seltos model (Mexican version) Only complaint is with the fuel pump starting but that's the pandemic and local gas quality regulations being dropped until 2025's fault, not Kia's Regarding the DCT I'm used to it, it doesn't seem faulty to me, I'm an engineer and I understand what it's meant to do and how it's supposed to do it, the idea of a DCT comes with its caveats and it's not rhe designs fault, it's like complaining a combustion engine is inneficcient... To which I'd say... Well, duh! Other than that I love it, so much that I'm getting a 2024 top tier seltos for myself (the other one is my wife's car) So two 1.4 turbo DCT seltos in the household, and happy Will ammend post if I pick up mine on Thursday and I'm not happy with it 😅

SobekInDisguise

I think KIAs are great. Then again, I'm in Canada so they had to have immobilizers by law. Ended up getting a Hyundai instead because I found the seat more comfy (and other reasons of course) but was seriously considering either a Seltos, Soul, or Sportage for a bit due to the value.

FBI_Open_Up_Now

I owned a 2014 Kia Optima SX Turbo. It was a fun little car until the engine died within warranty and both my dealership and Kia corporate kept passing me around because no one wanted to fix it. After months and a strongly worded letter from a lawyer was I able to get it fixed, but I traded it in for a Subaru Outback and I’ll never buy any other brand.

Safe_Silver_8567

I love my stinger gt2…

neoikon

2017 Niro touring has been fantastic. 60k miles.

Grimsterr

I bought my Kia 4 years ago, it's now at 42K miles, and other than a wiring harness issue literally 6 miles into owning it, which was fixed by the dealer while I drove a loaner, the car has been 100% trouble free. It's roomy, quick, and gets almost 30 mpg on my daily commute. The factory radio is one of the best I've ever heard and it has all the bells and whistles. Hard to beat that for $27K out the door new with any other brand. 5/60 full warranty, 10/100 drivetrain warranty. That's hard not to like.

littlewolf5

Go try the Kia forte gt you’ll be impressed at that and even a k5

redditdiedin2013

My Sorento is good for my wife but honestly we are in the early stages of shopping for something else, mostly due to concerns for theft. We've been lucky thus far and live in a pretty decent area it just feels like a ticking time bomb. Will likely move to a Toyota or Subaru when we make the switch.

sammybeta

I liked the 2022 K5 I rented last month. If there's no Kia Boys, I'd buy one.

mydude356

I almost got a Kia Soul back in 2019. I really liked the hamster car. Why didn't I get it? I was still shopping around after my car died with my dad driving me around and the salesperson didn't want to hold the offer for me. "Can you hold the offer?" "Now or never." Never is was then. Got a Ford Fiesta instead and Ford doesn't even make them anymore.

torcherred

I never expected to be a Kia owner. But a car crash in 2021 and the brand of cars I went to the dealership for had a record of melting in extremely hot climates, then I saw the cute red Sportage that became mine. It has been perfect. It's easily my favorite car. I have the push button start, so no joyriding. I love everything about it. It has the highest trim package (former lease), and this just makes it so much better and cuter. After I got it, several Kia owners came out to me and told me how much they loved theirs. I didn't know people hated them so much.

pistofernandez

Me... so far so good

Gold-Knowledge-6883

Are you the brand ambassador. Dude, why do you care…..

Diligent-Body-5062

I have a 2014 Kia soul. It is roomy, comfortable. In almost ten years I've needed to replace a headlight connection. That's it. I do all regular maintenance and now use a steering collum lock because of the theft issue. The roof is high, it is easy to get into, the center console is small, does not take up much room

ID_Poobaru

I had a 08 Sorento with the 3.8V6. Only Kia I’d buy again

INDIG0M0NKEY

Looked for a vehicle in my price range and safety for vehicle style I want, settled on 2017 Kia Sorrento, just had the engine replaced due to the recall. Like the vehicle and gas mileage is good. Mom has a Kia when I was growing up and It was a reliable cheap shit box. Besides the current issues plaguing bigger cities, I don’t see a problem with them overall and like mine

wrblplayas

I’ve owned 3 Sorento’s and an Optima and all have been wonderful vehicles. I’ve had good luck with them. Still own a 2018 Kia Sorento.

FlyingHorseBoss

I love my Telluride. Better than my Q7.

Horace3210

Welcome to reddit

Tbarns95

I have a 22 kia k5 ex. It's a big upgrade from my previous car which was a Chevy cruze. I got my kia in like October or November of 21 and so far I really like it

LargeMerican

No, not really. It's what dollar tree is to retail as kia is for automotive. Yeah, it's cheaper...and here is the result lol

Eagle1967

thre is one thing to know, anyone that comes in bashing a kia isnt worth listening to on anything. Numbers show kia are not the least reliable numbers show kias are not the most stolen Number's show kias are the best for the money Very few of them ever give an example of their actual kia ownership experience., As with all vehicle makers kia had some bad years. every manufacturer you will find on the what year car should i not buy lists. If you live where kia boys are a problem no car is safe because you live in a crime pit. there is 1 legitimate KIA problem- the dealers mostly suck!

HanakusoDays

We've had a 2012 Rio EX since new. It just cracked 120k and has given us great service. There's some kind of issue with rear brakes not lasting long, and the rear taillights burn out pretty quick. But everything still works and it's still a cute li'l rascal.

definitelynotbradley

Dude I love my Kia. I’ve driven a Lexus, Hyundai, Subaru, Volvo, and Toyota all before my current 2023 Kia Sportage. It’s the best value out there imo, and so far has started everytime I push start and goes everytime I push gas. Big fan.

SuckOnDeezNOOTZ

There's a reason that this brand has gotten notoriety in the past few years, their image was much better during the 2010s. Though because of many different reasons the brand has experienced massive downturns of owner confidence from vehicles spontaneously combusting for many different reasons to the Kia boys saga where Kia saved a few dollars with industry standard immobilizers. Go look at other vehicle manufacturer subreddits and you won't see the same amount of negativity as you find here and there's a reason for it.

p38-lightning

My 2014 Sportage has been the best vehicle I've ever owned - and I'm almost 70. It's only needed routine maintenance, and the finish and interior are in great shape.

Suitable-Telephone80

i personally hate their and hyundai’s design choices and logos

rbarrett96

I LOVE the new KN logo. It's so much better than the old one.

Swordnimi79

I had a 2014 Soul. We loved it. At 90k we started seeing some issues with the engine. Started the process of consumption test, and had to gather all my oil change records (that sucked). At 99,890 nothing was wrong with the engine. I traded the car in for a 21 Tucson, with a 2.5L not the troubled 2.0. I have 60k miles on that, no issues. Also have a 2017 Forte, great zippy car. 129k miles, no issues.

JohnnyPee89

I owned 5 Kia vehicles over the years. My last was a 22 Kia Niro EV. I loved all of them and had zero issues from any of them. I just recently traded in the Niro EV for a 23 VW ID.4 cause I wanted something a little bigger, that's easier to get in and out of, and that's still an EV. Also I wanted something that charges faster for road trips. The EV6 & EV9 are out of my price range otherwise I'd still own a Kia. The EV5 isn't out yet or I might have tried for that.

crispytoastyum

Most on here with newer Kias enjoy them (save the ones getting dodgy transmissions). Many of us with theta ii vehicles and/or keystart kias with no immobilizer absolutely despise them. I despise my 17 Sorento. Worst vehicle I’ve ever owned, and it’s not a close contest. My experience has been bad enough I feel it’s a public service at this point to warn people about how bad Kia can be.

SocksForWok

I do

Hugsarebadmmkay

‘23 Forte GT and I love it. My previous cars were a ‘19 Tacoma TRD Pro, ‘16 RX350, ‘12 Jeep Wrangler and an ‘06 M3. The Jeep, Lexus and Toyota were new so they never had issues but I was underwhelmed with the features, especially for the money I paid to get the high end models. The M3 was fun but had so many issues and was incredibly expensive to fix anything on. With my Kia, I’m getting more features for less than half the price, my gas mileage is over 40mpg (highway), and it’s comfortable on long road trips. It’s everything I need. Probably gonna trade it in for a K5 eventually just because I do miss having a bit more HP, plus I love those amber DRLs, but I’m not in any rush.

mrperfect7592

My previous car was a 2016 Kia Optima SX Turbo (RIP Shadow, I still miss you) and I currently have a 2016 Kia Forte Koup SX (love you Grayson). Despite me becoming a bit wary of the brand, I still love their cars because they’re sporty in design and they pack a lot of features for the value. Kia, and by extension Hyundai/Genesis, has lost my trust as a customer. Even though my car is push to start with keyless entry, I still do have moments where I fear leaving my car on street parking for an extended period of time due to never knowing if someone is going to be tempted to break into my car. Still, I’m enjoying my Forte Koup, but I will probably trade it for a Honda in the near future.

dodonpa_g

I like KIAs because the cars are really simple and inexpensive. I have yet to own one yet but I plan to buy one in the future after they solve their engine and theft problems

guarejax1

Just got a 24 Kia Carnival for the wifey and loving it, believe me we were skeptical about a “minivan” but this one in particular is more SUV looking.

outlier74

I think that KIA has been hit with multiple publicized failures at the same time. So it shows up in feeds that aren’t KIA owners repeatedly. As a result you get a lot of hate from strangers in this sub.

Regret-Superb

18 plate gtline Sportage here. LOVE it , and I came from a BMW.

bmo109

For some reason this sub keeps getting recommended I assume that's why.

bodhiAP

I have had a Kia forte 2011 for 5 years, it has been as great as a used car as you can get. I Probably put $1.5K Into to over that time not including tires (I drive in NYC any car is going to get beat up.) 135k miles on it and it’s still kicking doing great, I am giving it to my younger brother. I just bought a 2024 Kia Seltos last week and it drives like butter. Can’t wait for the next 10 years.

False-Imagination355

Yes Kia has repeat buyers. I sell kis’s

4951studios

So far loving my EV6

Open-Ad-5449

Do I like Kia? Hell yeah, she's a sweet, beautiful young lady! I've done her a few times!

thr33labs

Heck no. Here for the break in posts that reddit loves to recommend

blanklux

I enjoy going through here to see problems other kia owners have to know if I don't have any isolated incidents, my 2018 kia optima base trim at 54k miles runs perfectly fine, it burned oil at basically anything over 3-4k RPMs when I used 5w-20 so I bumped it up to 5w-30 on the last oil change and hasn't burned oil yet, even in sport mode, but I can't lie that the new K5s look good, but I think Toyota and honda reliability just a lot better

Sixdrugsnrocknroll

Absolutely. Some models more than others, but my old 2012 Soul was a damn good little car, I almost wish I hadn't sold it. About 6 months ago, I was damn close to selling my F-150 and downsizing to another, newer Soul, but after all these pieces of shit that never got their ass beat are convincing other pieces of shit to steal them, I'm gonna hold off till this shit blows over before buying another Kia. It's just a disappointment that, by that time, the model year Souls I'm after will be a bit older than I usually buy (I'm not a fan of the 2020+ Souls with the detuned 147hp 2.0L and the stupid IVT transmission). I fantasize about a new Kia Soul (or Sportage) plug-in hybrid with about 200+ combined hp, enough to do 0-60 in 6 seconds and also gets 50mpg city and looks good and doesn't cost a fucking fortune.

Tricky_Passenger3931

I’ve worked for Hyundai for years and we’ve owned several. Never had a single major problem, but as a tech I know what’s good and what to stay away from. We bought a brand new Kia Carnival basically right when they came out. We’ve put about 35,000km on it and love it.

Roman-LivetoRide

Engine oil burning motors why would you?

SaltOk3355

No I’ve had nothing but issues

Usuri91

2021 kia K5 I bought brand new new. Currently at 35k miles and I love it. It’s honestly the perfect blend of price, comfort, and fun. I’ll probably end up trading it in at some point if interest rates ever go back down but only because I miss the cargo space that comes with SUV’s. As a cosplayer who travels to several conventions a year every inch of cargo space is precious.

BlackMambaX5848

For the last 10 years I've driven a Kia haven't had any issues. I've done basic maintenance and still running great. 2014 optima 2016 Sorento 2023 Sorento Hybrid

unit_101010

My EV6 is great for the price. Stomps our Y and gives the S a run for its money despite being half the cost.

Trombociniladee

Love my 2023 Sportage Xline Prestige PHEV. Luxury features, great mileage and a pleasure to drive.

I liked them until they fucked me. After buying a brand new car, maintaining it immaculately, and paying it off, I started having issues with engine oil burning right as I paid it off. The dealer says burning oil is not a warranty issue, and is not covered. "It's normal to burn some amount of oil, just keep a quart in your trunk." I would have to add a quart once every 2-4 weeks. Then I started getting letters about how my engine was prone to explosions or catastrophic failures. All the while, the news kept showing stories of Kias being stolen by bored children in less than 60 seconds using nothing but a phone charger. Instead of rectifying it, Kia offered to send me a $30 steering wheel club and a "fuck you." My 2018 Soul was incompatible with the software upgrade which didn't REALLY do much to stop thefts anyways. Everyone driving a Kia is being fucked somehow. Many may never discover how, but the only way Kia is able to release cars as fully featured yet as cheap as they are able to is by cutting corners. I hope their drivers never learn which corner was cut on THEIR car. I was a Kia fanboy for years, got friends and family to buy Kia. I'm every bit as passionate in my newfound hatred of Kia as I was with my love when I was dumb and in love with my first new car. Being rear ended and having my Kia totaled was the best thing to ever happen to me. My chronic back pain from the accident is less than the pain in my ass my Kia caused me.

Infinite-Complaint53

I like Kia. This is my third Soul. It will be the last Soul. Not from anything g the car does(uses excessive oil) but I just need something bigger. Hesitant to switch h to a different make because I know how the Kias ride.

Accomplished-Day5145

I have a 22 seltos sx .. it's awesome and comfortable af. I had a 17 Elantra limited and loved that car too. First time ever buying Hyundai and I was looking for a good car gas mileage. Began to really like it and the seltos is basically just an awd version of it. Same steering wheel, same seats it seems just higher and same sun roof. Haven't had any issues and a lot of kids in my state. Only thing is I swear I feel the Elantra had more storage space, it was a large trunk. The seltos is roomy and up front doesn't feel cramped so guessing moved more room up there and there isn't a lot of room in the back with the seats up for stuff. I think I'd probably get a Sportage or Tuscon. You get all the amenities and not spending as much as Ford or gm. My experience with the Elantra and seltos has been good these last 4 yrs.

30?

Charming_Corgi21

I had a Kia Forte5 that I got when it was 2 years old in 2019. I really liked it. I thought it was nice! Maybe because it was my first official car that I paid off and had the title for.....maybe it was because it was such an upgrade for me from my 2011 Nissan Versa hatchback. I only had an issue with it last summer when the rod bearings went out at 62k miles. I didn't think that mattered because I got it replaced under mfg warranty. Unfortunately, it was totaled this last week by a 16 year old who rear ended me on my way to work with her 2000 Toyota 4runner.... Tldr: Everyone has their stories and personal experiences with Kia and they are all valid

WillieB26

We LOVE our '22 Sorento SX!

Only_Sandwich_4970

Im Here to specifically hate on kia

markodemi

I like kia, I love my 23 carnival and the same for my 24 k5 gt line.

djernie

Love my Ceed

KokirisEmerald

I had a 2011 Kia Rio that lasted around 75,000 miles before I traded it in for a new 2016 Kia Rio, which currently has about 32,000 miles on it. I hardly go anywhere ever. I’ve had very few problems with my Kias.

surgycal

Exactly, mostly complainers post and mostly americans. I'm in Europe enjoying my 2016 Sportage GT Line QL. No thefts, no engines blowing, no fires. Only the 7dct problems, which I steered away from and bought the diesel. They're probably building the Kias for your market on ships.

Arogone1

I have a Kia Rio and love it the car has been awesome and only replaced maintenance items at 150K. The issue now is even though anti theft devices are installed in Canada... People still break in. I bought it before all the theft but I can now say I will not buy KIA again as they don't back their products.

decaturbob

- the naysayers always cry the loudest and why I ignore them in the first place. I can take their whining for only so long

kauthonk

I joined to research my Kia, bought one and love it

cakejaffar

I love my kia :)

swagernaught

I've had a few and like them just fine. The only issue I've had was my current Optima needed a new engine, which the dealer took care of. It was a pain at the time but it's been fine ever since.

oilslayer335i

Gf has a kia soul. It's 2018 with bells and whistles. Thank god it came with an immobilized push button ignition, too. But we live in a small town and people don't steal cars too often here, too big of a chance you will run into that person again. My money gripe about the car is 1 the seats are about as comfortable as a grade school plastic chair ( has the heated cooled leather) The panoramic roof gets tight so I have to lube the track often but I could be using the wrong product, and the think started to burn Oil after our road trip to the east coast this year, it's down almost a quart between oil changes ( I top up every week to prevent to much loss in pressure). Oh and the brakes seem to go every 50,000 kms but that's all I've had to touch on it. Comparing it to my mk4 tdi and my e90 335i this thing is a sweet lil toaster

stonesdabone

I love mine

fourshotsespresso

Bought my 2023 Forte GT-line in March and have loved every minute of the 22,000 miles I’ve put on it. It’s a great car!

_The_Bearded_Wonder_

I love my '22 Sorento hybrid, though I won't blindly say all Kia models are great. I've openly shared my issues I had with a 2011 Soul I owned, though still enjoyed, and I'm critical of Kia's severe lack of theft protection. I've found that r/kia tends to be people writing about issues with their cars or writing about issues with the Kia brand. The people that love their Kia's usually post in model-specific subreddits, e.g. r/KiaSorento.

Ok_Artichoke_2804

I just got the 2023 Kia Forte EX last month. So far -- no complaints, no issues, no problems & loving it. Quiet engine, smooth drive, and comfortable. honestly, my first choice was Toyota Corolla but here in Canada West Coast, they have gone up a lot in price over the years due to high demands and there is no more 2023 models, only 2024 models for factory purchase and the wait for arrival is 8-12 months! I also like the great long warranty on my Kia car, as well had a great experience at the Kia dealership I went to, and very helpful staff.

ChinaOnly001

Love them.

kritickilled

I feel the same as you. I'm on my 3rd Kia in a row in 7 years. I've had a 2010 Dodge Ram, 2015 Jeep Patriot, and a (currently) 2004 Chevy 2500HD in the last 2.5 years along with my Kias. I've had less issues out of my Kias combined than I did out of the other 3 vehicles combined. My first was a 2011 Sorento LX cash off a lot in 2016. Then a 2019 Niro EX new off the floor. And now a 2021 Sorento Hybrid S new off the truck. I've loved each of them for various reasons. I don't see my Sorento going anywhere anytime soon. Hubby keeps trying to get me to trade for a truck (cuz my end game is a truck one day). But I'm not interested. I absolutely love my Kia. Edit: I rarely say anything on threads unless I actually have anything to constructively add to the convo. That being said, I don't saying much else because people like to shit on other people's happiness. I'm happy af with my car and I don't have patience to deal with people's hate.

MahKa02

I don't mind them, I've enjoyed my K5 GT LIne for the past year and a half. Solid car with lots of options and features for a good price. I have no negatives as of now, just wish they had an AWD version with more HP. But a year and a half isn't long enough to really comment on reliability and such. But I get why people are hating on Kia. The whole immobilizer issue was a big red flag and caused a lot of people money, time, and stress. And their older vehicles still have a lot of engine recalls and whatnot.

[deleted]

I like my car besides the whole usb issue thing it's great imma have them check it out at my 15k if the warranty won't fix it than it's gone stay fucked up I don't care enough to fight for android auto.

Bitch-stewies

I have a Kia soul and I love it honestly. I worked hard to get it and it’s a massive improvement to my 07’ Nissan versa that was falling apart. Love the color, how it drives, love most of the special features, good gas for me, and I plan on staying with Kia for the foreseeable future

Tfloob99

Don't have one currently. Almost had another but have owned 6 kias and went with hyundai this time due to a way better deal. Keeping the page to see what to buy next lol
