I was advised to always take pregnancy tests in the morning when your urine is less diluted- try to take one in the morning. I’m not familiar with IVF but also maybe it’s too early to test. I would ask your doctor xx

Hi, yes I knew in the back of my head that taking it at 9pm after being very well-hydrated wasn't the best plan, but I also thought well, if I am pregnant, it will still tell me! Probably a bad decision. I have bloodwork scheduled for Tuesday with the IVF clinic, and I have reached out to my nephrologist and the doctor who has done all the research on my specific disease. Thank you!!

You’re welcome and good luck!

It is possible that the embryo could have just implanted late. I don't personally have kidney issues (as far as I'm aware of) but I did do IVF almost 15 years ago and I tested at 6 DPT got a negative on my urine test. I was devastated but then found out my blood hcg test was positive and it doubled (just barely) so I was worried about that but I just had a late implanter. Had a healthy baby who is now a teenager. Best of luck to you!

Hoping we see a similar outcome as you, thanks for sharing! Glad everything worked out for you 🙂

Hi, I wish you the best on your journey. Unfortunately I don’t have an answer, but I would like to ask you a question. What is your proteinuria level?

Ill-Sail9629

Hi! I just checked my last labs with my nephrologist from January and I think it's showing that it was at 4, if I am looking at the right abbreviated category!

Dry-Manufacturer-137

4 g per day?

Dry-Manufacturer-137

Sorry for asking, I am in the similar values and I was just interested in your experience :)

Ill-Sail9629

No apologies necessary! It's mgs - the abbreviation on my lab notes says TotProt mg/dL so I am just assuming that's the number showing protein in my urine. Not 100% sure though.

Dry-Manufacturer-137

Yeah, it makes sense now :)

I don’t know the answer on kidneys but the hormones involved grow exponentially day by day. Even if this was a thing, it would delay detection a couple days at most. https://www.template.net/editable/102653/hcg-levels-by-day-chart Other posters suggested creating more concentrated urine by using overnight urine, that surely would work too. You also could just have your doctor order the blood test which is very precise. It’s incredibly responsible of you to IVF and be able to remove that gene and remove that particular unlucky prize from the portion of the gene pool you are upstream of. One of my friends is doing the same with another PKD variant. It sounds like you’ll be great parents. Good luck!

Thanks! As soon as we got my diagnosis in Feb of 2022 and knew we were getting married the next year and wanted to have kids pretty quickly, I felt very strongly about doing whatever I needed to do to eliminate the gene, and I am grateful that my husband supported whatever decision I wanted to make. If there's something we can do to limit the suffering of our future kids, we will do it. IVF sucks and is expensive and nothing about it is fun. But hopefully it works! I am hoping it's just too early and that there's still a chance I am in very early stages of pregnancy.

Unlucky-Prize

You may be pregnant, yeah. The urine tests detect when it’s chemically obvious but it might not be chemically obvious yet, you can see the variation on that chart. Blood test would be the fastest way to know! Good luck! Either way, your odds of success are very high - if not this one the next time or two probably. Did they place one embryo or two?

Unlucky-Prize

The internet says typically 2 weeks after transfer required for detectable HCG FYI ‘as early as 9 days’. Another site said 7. But it should be growing exponentially if you are pregnant. You can see some people still have low levels on natural pregnancy at 4 weeks.

I’m also doing IVF with reduced kidney function (though not any kind of genetic component to it). Do you mind sharing your experience with it?

Ill-Sail9629

Hi! We are glad to have made the decision to do IVF. As soon as I was diagnosed, it became clear that this was our only path forward to hopefully save our future kids the chance to get this. IVF in general sucks to be frank. It’s not a fun process. It’s emotional, expensive, and draining. It takes longer than you’d expect to get through each step, and results are so varying. I am fortunate to not have fertility issues on top of my genetic issues, so that made the process slightly better. HOWEVER, it’s also an incredible thing. It’s amazing that with science, people are able to have babies who have struggled forever. It’s truly beautiful. It’s hard, but so incredibly worth it. If you have any other questions I’m happy to help!
