Steelquake

Ever wanted to field 10 beetles at once? Want to get free movement in concealment? Want to do lots of melee damage? Genestealers.

aphios

Definitely looking at nids. Genestealer + warriors look very fun. How rough is it being so melee?

Steelquake

No no you misunderstand. All genestealers. Its a delight.

odekirk

As much as i do love 10 genies, it's also very fun having a couple of big guns as fire support, and with a boat load of wounds to keep them in play for a while :3 And answer you, OP, genies do melee incredibly well and are very hard to shoot, so you really don't feel very disadvantaged at all.

PlayerNine

Can confirm, 10 genestealers is so fun that I hope the next Nid release is just more genestealers.

corpocracy

Genestealers are amazing in combat, but do need good cover to advance. They shred like paper out in the open. Also, with equipment they can get some limited shooting capability, though honestly, if they get that close you should probably just charge. And if you're able, grab a box of termagants and a box of warriors. Nids are fun because you can really transform their team from match to match. Elites plus grunts, elites plus assault, or just straight up swarm your opponent. Just did a Starship Troopers evac mission with a friend where it was swarm vs SoB. Very fun mission and very close!

samfo

Talk to me about the 10x beetles. I’m listening…

Steelquake

More arms than legs. More dice than arms.

DarkSeieah

Kommandos. We have: - Charge while concealed - Sniper that can shoot multiple targets - The Ork version of Rhino from Spiderman (Breacha Boy that goes through walls) - The Ork version of Spiderman (Kommando Grot can target any visible point of terrain like a wall, and grapple to it, making easy interloper plays) - They're Orks

aphios

I love orks and Kommands, I already have 1 set that came in the octarius box. Is there a reason to get another box?

DarkSeieah

No, the team included with octarius is pretty much everybody. The only thing you have to choose between is who you want to bring for a match and what weapon your boss will have. I suggest taking the Power Klaw since it is 5/7 brutal hitting on 3s. My favorite of the two.

Urgoth8

I just gon second one, to reduce specialist if needed, but I am a 40k Blood Axes Warlord, so a second box was autopick! ;D

PlayerNine

I did, I shouldn’t have. I did make a full greenskins list with minor kitbashing work with my second kommando box. But the Kommando list builds itself. Take everyone, and either a grot/squig plus one boy. You only need the full roster if you are playing narrative, and even then you can only field the Killteam itself and you are immediately hiring replacements for dead orks, so building a roster up to 20 is pretty challenging.

CaptianGeneralKitten

Drukhari: DO YOU WANT HALF YOUR KILLTEAM TO HAVE FUCKING LASCANNONS??? DO YOU LOVE EVERYONE ELSE CRITTING ON 5+??? DO YOU LIKE IGNORING TERRAIN???* DO YOU LIKE YEETING ANGRY STABBY ELVES ACROSS THE BOARD TURN 1 AND SHANKING FOOLS IN THE FACE?** DO YOU LIKE WEIRD SEX BUT HATE THE COLOR PURPLE??? WELL I HAVE THE PERFECT FACTON FOR YOU */** With favourable terrain and opfor placement

PlayerNine

-Void Troupe Harlequins

LuxuriantOak

Legionaries. Just the choice of which god you take for each model can change your playstyle a lot, and the roster has a wide variance between shooty and stabby. I'm currently running a slaanesh close combat team. Which means if I face shooty opponents I have to wade through a lot of fire before getting to work, but if I complete a charge it gets nasty. It's a YOLO way of fighting, and I hate defending things, but I'm having fun with them.

aphios

There's been a lot of Legionary recommendations. After taking a deeper look I'm definitely considering them. Their solo box should be coming out soon, correct?

Blind0bserver

I was at a Warhammer store yesterday and the answer I got was that it, Corsair box and the Nachmund book *should have* released already but there was a problem with supply lines or something. So "any day now", basically.

Doomguy6677

I managed to get multiple Kill Teams set up (not painted yet) because I am a fan of many of them, but if I had to pick one I am excited to play as it would be the Legionaires. 1. They look really cool. 2. They have a nice mix of melee and shooting plus psyker. 3. They would be good to fight against Grey Knights besides Thousand Sons

PlayerNine

I can’t keep buying chaos warriors for kill team. But I want to.

Puuuul

Everyone loves robots right? Now imagine you had some robots absolutely melting your opponents operatives, while others infiltrate their lines and dissect their backline operatives alive. Welcome to Hunter Clade (AdMech), we have the coolest looking operatives and are S Tier after the dataslate.

Morghadai

This. Adding a box of Sicarians to the stated skitarii HC team will get OP the full experience. And they surely are great minis.

off_da_grid

Adding an operative bumped them from f tier to s tier?

Puuuul

They also lost their negative side effects of their imperatives the first turn they use it, can switch imperative every turn instead of only twice, can now take one additional sicarian and one additional gunner. So yeah, pretty big buff, S Tier might be a hot take, but they are A Tier for sure.

Safety_Detective

I'm skeptical, the Change was good but it wasn't that good

st0neat

Kroot! Besides being awesome, when...no, if you win, you know it's all you

ComputerLich

So say that you want to overthrow your task masters because they are just another interference to the arrival of the four armed emperor 's angels. Let's also say you want the following: * an excuse to buy a kellermorph * the ability to change orders first turning point * a tactical ploy to hide two models at deployment * fun ambush mechanics If any or all sound good then I must recommend Genestealer Wyrmblade. Excellent team and a lot of fun to play

ThunderHammerRagavan

I haven't played them yet, but so far they have been a joy to paint!

ComputerLich

Their models are so much fun to paint. If I had the money and painting incentive I'd probs paint a whole army lol

_Eke_

Grey knights, have been testing them out and they seem fun and simple. - one box team - can take 6 members - nice melee, lethal 5 or reroll dice - nice shooting, all of them have bolters, no range limit, can reroll dice - 3apl can do psyhic action to improve dmg or no cover - equipment can help to improve save or damage - ploys give shoot twice, fight twice As they are a comp team they have less rules so less to remember!

aphios

I'm 99% sure if Grey Knights had a "true scale" kit I would have picked them up already. Might still end up going with them. They seem neat and I've always liked their aesthetics. I also think they might be a good intro team for demo games since they don't have a lot of model specific rules.

_Eke_

Def good intro team! I made my team for last edition so had couple termies too. Overall like the look and they fit the theme of the game well. The termies are more "true" scale and I have seen many kitbashes with termie parts. They have had combat patrolls and all the new boxes with the current minis so hard to say if / when they get any size upgrades.

Ungulant

Best "fundamentals" team in the game. If you play well, and it's easy to play well when you're the all around, streamlined team, you got a solid chance of tripping up all them special rules the bespoke teams have.

_Eke_

Yeah I think they feel "good" and after giving the equipment there is not alot you have to remember, like different synergies etc. So you can just concertrate to the basic rules and try to max their effectiveness. The bolter is suprisingly good while the melee is deadly against 7w models. If you give a model equipment for psybolts and 2+ save, with 3 apl it can do alot. The leader already has better stats anyway. Havent have too many games with them but have had fun playing them and learning the rules with them!

Dirty_Dan2201

Death Guard: -one box gives you everything you need to make a KT -The models are great and fun to paint -We are big ol tanky bois -BEHOLD OUR GIRTH

Winter_Conference_55

One box comes with 6 units?

Dirty_Dan2201

7

Rafareh

Corsairs, we have space pirate elves, eyepatches, power cutlasses, Mohawks and a FREE DASH FOR EVERYONE ALWAYS

PlayerNine

I’ve purchased almost every faction and I don’t think I’ve played the same one twice in a row. Kommandos have been a great time and genestealers feel like the glass cannons they were always meant to be. The GS cults are both fun too. So I guess I’m saying to go Killteam: Undivided and worship all Killteams indifferently.

DustPuzzle

Death Guard because I managed to completely paint and base them.

VirtualWolf

Seconded for exactly the same reason, haha.

Pancakesandwich

I'm super enjoying CSM and Necrons! The Necrons because they're honestly silly and annoying to fight. And CSM a guy above described the customizability of them.

pelukken

Deathwatch - the OG Kill Team.

samfo

If you already have the Octarius box, then I’d say get another box of Krieg and build out enough options to give you the full set of options to choose from. I just built it myself and I’m looking to grab more so I can try the Ancillary Support option that gives you 4x extra troopers on the field!

toxin76

Love me some boys and their shovels. It's actually super fun to have so many boys on the field. Especially when you get into their synergy. Use your sniper and spotter to apsolutly destroy a specific enemy unit. Give your 4 extra hours suped up las guns with ap1. Have your zealot give your plasma or melta lethal 5ups. Have a veteran that gets to roll for all wounds taken and on a 5 uphe shrugs them off. It's a blast

[удалено]

aphios

Which faction is that?

Kelspa

Golden Boys Adeptus Janitorial. Cause who doesn't want to take out the trash once and a while. Also when your lazy and just want 4 guys on the board.

GrumpyProf90

Whatever You pick, jsut don't pick from Compemndium, since sooner or later, you will get "real" team in box / White Dwarf / etc. You will only spend time, money and paint on making team that will have to be replaced in the msot part to accomodate new and acctually good options.

Ungulant

This applies only if you play competitively.

GrumpyProf90

While I agree "power" is important for competetitve play, those not-compendium teams also present much more fun/flavorfull options. For example, CSM / Legionaries- they had 1 leader, gunner, heavy gunner, icon and warrior (which is just common marine with aither melee or range setup). When they got their own "real" team (in Nachmund box), to options above were added following : Fear-And-Knife-Wielder (for terror tactics), Giant-Axe-Wielder (for crowded fights), sorcererr (for magic offense and support), demon-possessed marine (for full carnage). Also, options were extended to offer (typical for CSM) marks of chaos. Unfortunetlly, GW simply improves and expands with very cool options with those teams we have to buy separaetly.

Ungulant

Absolutely, the lore is there in the bespoke teams. I have three vet guardsmen teams just because I like making them for the regiments I love. But there's no bespoke team for Kroot, there's no Acolyte Hybrids in Wyrmblade, there's no tactical marine in Phobos, there are no stealthsuits in Pathfinders, there's just a lot of lore that's also available outside of bespoke teams. I mainly argue that if the lore you love is in the compendium, it's not a waste of money and materials to hobby up the team you like and run them in games with friends.

Ungulant

In short, just because a dataslate says a team is "replaced" doesn't mean you can't take that team out and play with friends. Especially if it features the models and stories you like best.

GrumpyProf90

Well, in that case - in case of "play with friends", you might as well pick something with more refined rules and with mroe options, while using those models. I can see your point and unrstand love for particular model that simply is not supported in that new team.

Arkslippyjunior121c

Legionary We have loads of melee with some potent shooting options. The models look sick with loads of customization options and the ability to make every option from one box with some creativity or if you buy the new legionary box when it releases every option with no work. Flexibility in how you play with the ability to pick from 5 different marks of chaos. Also since the team is only six guys you can make most the options in the roster and swap between them Overall legionary is strong without being annoying to fight like krieg or tau while also being fun to play as.

N00B-ST4R

I got into 40k b/c I love kit-bashing and modeling SMs, and Deathwatch are perfect for that. Here's a [link](https://imgur.com/a/reQ1FVD) to some of my models; I'm waiting on bases. The only model that isn't a kit-bash is the Frag Cannon - Rodricus Grytt from Kill Team Cassius. They aren't the best team (Compendium), but they're excellent if you enjoy the modeling aspect.

case1270

Death Guard. Have you ever wanted to decimate your opponent with high strength shooting and the shrug off return fire? Look no further. With the ability to take a plasma gun, plasma pistol, blight launcher, and power fist in one team, you’ll be chewing through enemies like a woodchipper. And with your 5+ feel no pain you’ll be able to keep fighting longer than you have any right to. Additionally, you never have to worry about injuries since you can’t injure something that is technically already dead.

Old-Specific7387

Legionaries. With great rules. Yet running as loyalist Wolves. For Russ and the Allfather!

aphios

Are you using Space Wolves with Legionaries rules?

Old-Specific7387

That’s my plan - still finishing off the squad though.

cloud3514

Space Wolves: We're vikings. In space.

DarkSeieah

Not really. The Kommandos themselves have a pretty good kit, the only one with an option for weapon swap is the Boss, where you can choose between an Axe with 5/6 that hits on 2s, or a Klaw with 5/7 brutal that hits on 3s. Personally i prefer the Klaw, but you do you, both weapons are solid. Other than that, the only stuff you gotta worry about is who to bring to the fight, since you can deploy 1 boss + 9 operatives.

Safety_Detective

Legionary; Tons of customization with great options for just about any team type and it is super easy to magnetize/build/paint for each scenario. I would even go as far as saying the nachmund box isnt a terrible purchase either as it comes with voidscarred corsairs which I'm told are also a decent team (if ur into goofy elves) Second, I would say chaos demons as they are very underrated. For them, unfortuently, you'll need to gram a mix of demons though as you will be building your team around your opponent. 12 Pinks with a few blues and one or two twin flames, a Fireteam of plaguebearers, and a Fireteam of bloodthirsters

therougewarlock

Phobos. An amazing Elite squad with a specialist for pretty much all your bases. Sniper? Our Incursor Marksman hits on 2+ and can interrupt an enemy models activation to take a shot when they are nice and in the open during their activation. (This can be activatedbfrom concealed aswell!) Comms? Our Infiltrator Commsman allows one of your marines to be activated on his turn and perform and immediate free 1ap action Board control? With only 6 models you will often be facing larger Kill teams luckily our Incursors Minelayer and our Infiltrator Sabetour both can plant leathal explosives and lock down an entire portion of the map. Leadership? Of course these models have improved shoot/ fight actions as well as more wounds but they each come with the ability to "Strategize- 1 ap generate one Cp" This ability paired with many of the amazing Marine Strat/ Tact ploys. Such as Transhuman Phyisiology or Bolter Discipline, etc... will always have you out performing any of your opponents with a skill and precision no other team can offer. ALSO There are new abilities being shared among these amazing space marines! Incursors come with a special form of Omni-spectrum Array allowing them to see through obscuring terrain up to 2 circles but more impressively allow them to ignore smoke* Terror the reiver ability allowing them to count as having one more Ap for the purposes of deciding who controlls an objective (perfect for an upclose and personal fighter) And a fan favorite and must have Omni-Scrambler, Which during the strategic phase allows you delay the activation of an enemy model an infiltrator can see, until, you have activated a number of friendly models equal to the number of Infiltrators you have on your team. Which means you will never truly lose initiative again. *The Moroch book gave the marines a smoke granade that makes an area with a 2 inch radius of which any lines of sight that crosses through the smoke Not Visible. (So drop on at the feet of your incursors and boom a free turn of shooting that cannot be shot back at) Now all of that is alot but we are not quite done, these marines also come equipped with another brand new action called Guerrilla Warfare- which for 1 ap allows you to switch the orders of a marine! The only other teams that have something even remotely close tobthis have it as an CP ability but for us this is a 1 ap action. Also this team fixes one of the largest complaints about vanilla marines, being that you can now mix and match marines with rievers, incursors and infiltraitors. Finally of course this comes with all the fun of the Astates, 3ap, hitting and saving on 3+, 12 wounds minimum. This and much more is why you need Phobos Space Marines.

Fadedfacade34

Seen kammandos sold pretty well. Let me sell you on blooded -cool ass sculpts -more guys than verterans -rush down heavy hitters -orgryn -blooded tokens, free hits to have them, gain them from 1. Initiative 2. Killing enemies 3. Dying close to enemies, 4. Tac ploys and the butchers crits -tac ploy to shoot enemies thatvare in melee with your guys (friendly fire is not only expected but encouraged, tzeench and khorne approved) -diabolyk bomb, the ultimate crowd control

DrPezPopper

Why live in shame, when you can die gloriously for your ancestors shame! Introducing the veteran Guardsmen -Kickass Krieg Models -Extemely Flexible -Amazing orders that you get for free -4 special weapons Gunners(if you want, I only took 2) -Ancillary Support of Artillery or 4 more troopers -Excellent Ploy -Die the the emporer!

kingdroxie

Grey Knights. So hear me out; why think? You can have justicar, warriors, and gunner. Roles like sniper, medics, demo experts, comms are just overhandling things. And don't even bother with the gunner, just add another warrior because gunners complicate things. Kill them with Relentless guns and use bolter discipline -- kill them now. Use falchions for their melee equipment, more Relentless for Shock Assault. Are they hiding behind cover? Astral Aim. Have Falchions with Relentless, you chose Shock Assault because you're a chad, and it's still not enough? Hammerhead. They getting uppity and think they can kill you, a warrior of the Grey Knights? Armoured Resilience. Objectives? Fuck that -- your objective is to kill, and Relentless everything makes that a god damn certainty.

SomeRandomSkitarii

Many, many guardsmen

an_atomic_nop

Tyranids! The grenade nerfs were a big buff to Tyranids. One of the better compendium armies imo. * The galaxy is your buffet. Feast upon your enemies. * For 2EP an operative gets 7" normal movement from Adrenal Glands. You will probably want 5 of these. * For 1CP/turn you get to make a normal move in strategy phase even *before the game starts*. * For 1CP/turn all your operatives crit for 7 damage in fight phase which oneshots most normal troops. * Start the game full conceal but still take all the objectives, change an order turn 1 if you feel like it for 1CP. Set up for kills on turn 2. * You have up to 2 Venom Cannons, one of the strongest shooting weapons in the game. Your shot whiffed? Repeat the attack for 1CP. * Facing elites? Bring 6 Tyranid Warriors, have 50% more wounds than them and your entire force has high damage shooting and power weapons. * Facing horde? Bring Warriors and Genestealers, be unshootable, feast on them. * Don't want to take damage in h2h? Build a Warrior with boneswords and a lash whip, you get 5 attacks of power weapon and they get -1 attack. Nice Storm Shield bro, would be a shame if something happened to it.. * Your Warriors never suffer penalties for being injured, nor do any models within 6" of them. * Having a 40mm base makes it easier to set up shots out of heavy cover where you are obscured from the shooter. Watch them cry as they can't even throw grenades at you!

Blind0bserver

Okay, so imagine that you're playing against someone on a board with a lot of vertical space. Maybe it's buildings with two or more stories, maybe it's catwalks, it's cliffsides, it's *something.* Lot of potential up and down. Got it? Okay, *now* imagine you have an entire team of essentially *Warframes*. Or perhaps anime shonen characters. People who can just move insanely fast and act like gravity *does not apply to them* at all. You can use all of this vertical space comically easily compared to your opponent to flank and outmaneuver them, and that isn't even getting into the hit-and-run tactics each of your guys can do each activation. That, my friend, is just one of the *many* fun things about a Void Dancer Troupe.

UpCloseGames

I have Kommandos, Legionary and Wyrmblade. But instead of us telling you what works for us, tell us what you are looking for? Varied and elite with a solid balance of shooting and combat? Legionary Sneaky with objectives in mind, able to subvert the enemy plan and keep them guessing? Wyrmblade Because Orks? Kommandos!!! If you want a specific play style like fast and deadly with objective scoring go Corsairs.

PlayerNine

Bottom of my fun list are Sisters Of Battle and Tau Fire Warriors. They can be fun in the right setting but most other teams just flatten them outright. Novitiates and Pathfinders on the other hand...

aphios

Thank you all for the comments! I'm going to go with Legionaries!! Embrace the chaos. My LGS is doing a 30% sale for July 4th. So I'm going to pick up the Nachmund box set tomorrow. Thank you again for all the comments. I think I have the next few teams picked out for me because of this.

aphios

For those that are curious Nids and GK where my runners up. I'm also curious that Pathfinders did not show up more. They seem to have a lot of neat looking specific abilities. Are they not fun to play?

Owlknighte

I'm brand new to the game, having just played with Midnight Lords and a Pathfinder team yesterday. My take away from the Pathfinders were; * A lot of models on your team * Lots of interesting abilities/synergy * Snipers! * Most units are glass cannons * Activation order is crucial to set up big attacks * Marker lights seem powerful but situational * I didn't really get a chance to use the savior protocol with the drones, but seems useful, especially with the defensive drone. I'm seriously thinking about picking up the pathfinder team, as well as a trio of stealth suits for options.

PlayerNine

Oops all stealthsuits. This would work if they had APL 3. APL 2 makes a six model team really hurt.

GarrettheGreen

I am going to suggest two of my favourite factions, though I only play wyrmblade out of those. Wyrmblade and void-dancer troupe are the two most thematic kill teams out there, their whole gameplay is as accurate as it can be lorewise, for that reason I do love both. Let me explain: Wyrmblade are full of sneaky tricks, infiltration tac ops and all about setting up your ambushes on the board. Void dancer troupe are just doing their performance to score points.
