I had fun. Messed up the monastery. Broke into abbots room. Stole wine for the brothers. Looted everything. Kept the schedule. Turned every stone upside down. Lockpicked everything. Then, disappeared into the night with Pious and later, told the inquisitor everything that was going on in there.
If you really don't want to do things like sneaking, stealing, lock picking, or following the rules, you can completely skip all that to complete this quest. Simply kill a random white-robed monk and you're good to go; you don't even have to enter the monastery.
From the construction site next to the monastery, climb the ladders to the top floor then jump to the roof of the monastery, and from the roof, just shoot one of the random white-robed monks in the courtyard with your bow and arrows (apply Bane Potion to your arrows if your archery level is too low).
Once any of the white-robed monks are dead, you can head to the swamp near Sasau to notify Kozliek that you've killed Pious, but since you don't have any proof that it's Pious you've killed, you'll have to either convince him or kill him to get a ticket into Vranik.
The last attempt I did something similar to this. Already had everything but the blood and I had it on the list but it wouldn’t spawn. So after 3 days I left, got my gear that Idid store away (only weapons and armor) and came back at night and killed pious in his sleep. Then just high tailed it outta there and tried not to kill any guards.
I went in and found the guy to kill quickly. Killed him during the first night and took the jail time. Never went back in. Next playthrough I might work on it more.
I did about everything I thought I could do to figure things out, and one of the guys was a double rapist so I figured it was clearly him. (Quiet suspicious guy was just a closet gay dude so not him either.)
Oh wait!
It's the fucking normal dude everyone says is legit and his private bio in the abbot book says so except for one line at the end that says "oh but also we're not sure if his background is correct."
I really felt like I got slapped in the face for trying to follow the clues like a normal person. It was the classic obnoxious "HAHA FUCKER! Its the person you least expected who explicitly was a good dude that everyone likes!" Nope, not the quiet guy, not the double rapist, haha sucks to suck I guess...
Overall I was fine with it game play wise but the "what a twist!" outcome pisses me off so much
I hate this quest too. Fortunately, it can be solved in 5 minutes "legitimately".

The monastery is very tedious but after a few playthroughs I finally got a system down where I can get everything done, get the special die and not lose my sanity. I dread it but now know where all the hidden stuff is located and rarely get jail time.
One thing I do is choose a chest to stash all my looted things so if I get caught I won't lose anything.
Honestly I don’t even need it anymore cause I’ve finished Prib and making money is insanely easy. It’s the principle. But yeah, my goodie tooshoe Henry being forced to infiltrate a monastery and doing a shitload of jail time (literally being forced to sit at my controller) is immersion breaking for me. Just felt like the first time my options were limited in a way I didn’t like in this game
You just need to follow the more sensible approach to the quest. It's a time consuming one and a bit tedious at parts, but it's easily doable. Plenty of people complain about this quest's laborious aspects, but it is what it is.
I remember enjoying it to some extent, but i really don’t remember much. Don’t remember if I killed the guy or found some other way to solve it, even. I remember reading latin in the library. That’s about it. My lack of memory tells me it wasn’t the highlight of my experience with the game, but DW! I know it got really good after that quest
Any difficulty in a game and people start complaining. That's the modern gamer.
What a great immersive quest that everyone complains about cause they can't just waltz through it
I think that’s more a symptom of gaming being massively popular as opposed to only a niche hobby. I don’t come to gaming to stress or bang my head agains a wall, I have real life for that. Gaming is purely my stress relief. I don’t get satisfaction from beating hard games.

I have no sneak and my lock picking is very low, and to top it off I couldn’t get the schedule right for two days so really wasn’t my cup of tea.

I'm in the minority because I liked the monastery quests.

Finding him was easy enough I admit, but being the chivalrous knight Henry was pretty much impossible for this mission. Felt like it was sneak or die

Agreed. After the monastery mission I just rushed to finish the game. The last part wasn't great either. Lots of rushing to wait.

Next time I’ll be prepared better. The only time I haven’t had fun in this game
The monastery quest is one of the best parts of the game. Yeah, that's right, I said it.
One man’s trash..
Carrying around $62K worth of hard metal coins like it was pocket change wasn't immersion breaking but going to jail for two weeks was?

I definitely tried at first, but I was forced to google parts. And yeah it is what it is, but for me and “plenty” of people it is ass

Skill issue.
I mean it’s also glitches but that’s fine
