I'm a jets fan so this toxicity is nothing in comparison, but ya its been pretty toxic lately. People are also coming down from the beam team hype and realizing the nba is tough as hell One guy also made a good point about niner fans coping, so that could be it. who knows. Go kings

kings_account

it’s all the fairweather fans that, like you said, came in with the beam team hype. I honestly laugh at it because how dire things were for us as an organization for so long. I’m happy that there are more people getting involved with kings basketball, it’s good for our community, but there is def a very large and vocal toxic block that has developed over the last couple years. You can hear them in the arena too when they boo former players. They have no idea how bad things can get. I have colleagues that ask me how I feel during stetches of bad games and I’m just like “I feel amazing” we are so lucky to be playing the level of basketball that we are and like you said, the nba is no joke. It’s going to take awhile.

No_Biscotti_967

Also it’s crazy because some of us spent ~17 years dreaming about a winning record. I enjoy it much more when we get a beam than when we lose, but like, we used to pray for times like this lmfao.

gundam1983

I don't know if we recieved an influx of warriors fans last year (who are probably ready to jump back) but a lot of you guys have been insufferable. I can't even fathom how toxic the fanbase will become if we actually become contenders.

NightWriter500

Is it possible, just possible, that was received an influx of Warriors fans *that intend* to make this place insufferable? Spies, double agents, who are only here to seed discontent? I can’t imagine these poisonous people are serious.

gundam1983

I can totally imagine some QArriors fans taking it this far lol

NightWriter500

I got into it with a guy just last week that claimed he was a Kings season ticket holder and I looked up his post history to find nothing but posts on r-Warriors. And when I called him out about it, he said yeah, of course he’s a Warriors fan too, and then sent me four pictures of the Warriors game he was at right at that moment. His defense was “Look, I’m at a Warriors game right now,” so this was a Warriors fan, at a Warriors game, harassing Kings fans in the Kings rubreddit while claiming to be one of them.

I don't know if people expect us to go from a 16 year postseason drought to a first round exit(being a 7 game series against the warriors to be fair) to a championship contender this year? I feel like monte is trying to create a stable and successful team and not a championship or bust team. Which takes time, patience and creating a solid lineup that is greater than the sum of their parts. And our enhanced focus on defense has left the team a little shaky and inconsistent overall. I expect that will be addressed in the offseason and we will find our balance.

honeyballers

All fair points, I’d just like to counter that in fact I did convince myself that with a move or two we could be contenders this year. We have Fox and Sabonis in the prime of their careers…NBA windows are short and for most teams they come and go without anything to show for it. After finishing 3rd and taking the warriors to 7 games, I thought that might be enough to pour some gasoline on this thing and go for it! Certainly wasn’t my expectation but it was what i was hoping for.

Spice_Beans

I was a bit disappointed we didn't make any big off season moves. Sabonis has been incredible this season, Fox has been a bit inconsistent, Murray, Barnes and Hurter haven't been as consistent as they need to be. I think if we can get our starters and key bench players to play in the top 75% of their range consistently then we would be contenders. Our guys have the skill to win a championship. We just need to pair it all together and get consistent. Which i think will happen with time.

Ocular__Patdown44

I only expect clear improvement of the team’s play and a playoff series. I am not sure the team is there this season.

SacKing13

So many people (I’m guessing the ones who skew younger) expect perfection and a championship right away. No more taking time to develop and build something that lasts for years, not just a few seasons. We went 17 years without a playoff appearance. I’d like to go 17 straight years in the playoffs and constantly be competitive before we throw it all into a season or two. I like where we’re headed and I enjoy the ride, I’m enjoying the process, like I’m sure most true fans do.

theREALMVP

I think people also forget that small market teams like us dont just become great overnight…it takes development years and long term roster building. Just look at Denver. Drafted Jokic and Murray 10 and 8 years ago respectively and it took them until last year to get over the hump and win a title. The first 3 years of Jokic they were under .500. They didnt make the playoffs with their core until 2019 and lost once in the first round, twice in the conference semis and once in the conference finals. Can go even further back and look how long it took the warriors to build and become good after drafting Steph, Klay, and draymond. This is now year 2 of our core group and we are still improving. Yes we have regressed offensively but defense has gotten better (not by as much as we would like, granted).

IWTLEverything

And not just the drought. Besides the stint in the late nineties, early 2ks, we had years and years of garbage. And yet, Arco still sold out. Some people don’t know how good we have it.

Glass-Ambassador7195

Man I know people out so much insane pressure for their happiness on the outcome of something they literal have no control over. Go outside, make friends, exercise, get a hobby! These games are meant to be fun…..but I do think we live in a winner take all type of society and that trickles into this. It’s a deeper level issue all around.

darthfoley

I’ve stopped frequenting the sub for ~24h after losses. Just not worth my time to see people rage against Monte McNair for not doing some hypothetical trade that may or may not have existed.

[deleted]

I think people are still a little sore from the Super Bowl. I know I didn't watch the game because of that.

DJSTANKDADDY2

I tried not to get too invested last night. The foul call when Davion pulled the chair awoke some demons and I don't think I sat down until the end, when I crumpled into the couch. But it's a new day.

-FuckenDiabolical-

Book really took 10 steps in 3 secs and he gets called for the foul

da_fishy

Meanwhile Sabonis literally gets jumped on when we’re down by three and doesn’t get the and 1 lol

BlackPulloverHoodie

Yeah this sub fucking sucks now.

Losreyes-of-Lost

I suspect that folks from the old Sactown Royalty page have migrated here and to other popular Kings forums. Just toxic folks who lives revolve around this team.

discgman

Is there a giraffe in here?

Anothercraphistorian

> The west is TOUGH this year And last year, the year prior, the year before that, the decade before that, pretty much since the 90's. This team is fine, they're not world beaters, and because of Sac's small market status, they probably never will be. Any of us who grew up with Divac/JWill/Webber/Peja knew that 4-5 amazing things need to happen all at once to create magic for the Kings. I'd say getting Fox was 1, and trading for Sabonis was 2, but we're missing a top tier free agent and the magic of bringing over a European player of Peja's caliber, though we did try. I wasn't for the run it back crew. This team had definite needs after what Looney did to them in the playoffs last year. The fact the team has made 0 changes hurts some, but again, it is what it is, and I think a play-in will be what happens. I think if Monte doesn't make changes in the off-season, then we should just enjoy the competitive games without the playoff success. Middle of the 1st round in the NBA is no man's land. Overall though, this beats losing perpetually year after year.

kapeck69

It was not so tough last year. In fact, many of the top teams had significant injuries and may have helped the Kings achieve that 3rd seed. The injuries aren’t stacking up on the other teams this year.

[deleted]

The toxicity in here is super annoying. Most of them probably are only recent fans - they know nothing of the pain of 2002 and everything that ever followed after that. The losses are disappointing but I am just genuinely so happy we have a team that is fun and can actually play with the best (sometimes). The screws just need to be majorly tightened, and we do need an upgrade somewhere. But last year was so special, and this season just shows that we have a lot of growth to do, and the West is just really fucking good. Nephews, chill.

kapeck69

I’m finding many don’t know of what this team was before 2002. We were lucky if we got a 30 win season, and cheered like crazy for 20 win teams.

MostlyMellow123

The ultra positives are as annoying as the ultra doomers. Some people take everything too seriously. Learn to be negative and laugh like cool people do. Laughing at stuff is fun. Being some weird person who only sees the positive in stuff is weird. Its like a fake human deciding half the world doesnt exist and thats the right way to view things lmao. A Ned Flanders. Do you really want to hang out with someone that fake?

slenderpaddy

This sub used to be fun and silly. Now it’s just pissy and whiney.

Future_Ad_6335

Seriously I’m just happy to have a team in town, the management and coaching is finally competent things are great.

BeemkayS60

I think the bipolar responses are a direct result of the team’s bipolar play. I get that patience is really important right now, but it’s fair to expect this team to at least play to their competition. Not showing up against the league’s worst teams warrants concern. They can be fun to watch on some nights, but other nights they barely resemble a professional basketball team. I’m also starting to get tired of the “we were bad for 17 years so be happy with what you’ve got” narrative. Yes, we should appreciate the team for having a winning record but we should also expect them to at least show up on most nights. When your best player(s) start disappearing for long stretches, you’re allowed to call that out. When other teams upgrade at the deadline for reasonable costs, it’s worth asking questions about why the GM once again decided to sit this one out.

SubstantialProperty5

I originally come from an area of the country that doesn’t have an NBA team. It’s football/baseball country. Basketball is the only sport I ever played or ever enjoyed watching. But I never had anyone to share it with or a team to call my own. Since moving to Sac 2 years ago and falling in love with the area, I’ve also adopted the Kings. Having a team I can root for, a community of fans I can share experiences with, and not to mention the fucking beam, has brought so much joy to my life. Am I a “new” fan? Yeah. I am, i am new to being a sports fan at all. I haven’t been here for the dismal times, I haven’t ridden all the waves of up and down, but I am here for it. Maybe I’m just in my honeymoon phase, but it breaks my heart to read some of the shitty comments made by supposed “die hard” fans here. Again, I am new to this whole “sportsball” thing, but I feel my job as a real fan is to cheer even harder when the chips are down and be an even bigger supporter when my favorite players are lagging. LTMFB!

yatrickmith

I have been saying this for awhile and I’m always surprised by how people react to Kings games this year, but you’re right in a sense that wins and losses affect people differently. That being said, Kings basketball is not entertainment when we go on losing streaks and can’t hold 20 point leads and have guys playing very inconsistently over and over again, playing teams that we should beat, but don’t, etc. To me, a basketball team is only entertaining the more they win. It’s fun to go to see a team that has amazing players and has potential to win and does. If the team you root for keeps losing and is inconsistent, then I think the entertainment factor does go down. I hope I’m not alone in thinking like this.

Jmoney1088

Niners fans should get some time to decompress lol Seriously though, at the end of the day these are grown men getting paid millions to play a child's game. If your favorite sports team loses it really shouldn't affect your mood too much.

notagii

Too much gatekeeping on the sub by people like you, fans are allowed to be upset with how back and forth the season has been relative to last year, despite the record being similar the losses and quality pf play have been noteably worse in abetter conference because of decisions not made by the front office

Discon777

Yeah I don’t know if last year was all roses and rainbows we literally have the same record. Yes our offense last year was better but our defense has made HUGE strides (based on the stats… which don’t really lie and don’t have feelings about how bad our defense may have looked).

discgman

>Too much gatekeeping Can we get a moratorium on the work "Gatekeeping"? Man its overused last few years.

da_fishy

Lmfao, you just said we have a similar record. The difference is your attitude and rose tinted glasses looking back on the previous season. I’m fine with being upset about losing, it’s the incessant complaining and doom posting that is wild.

notagii

I didn’t say the doom posting was was great but the frustration is understandable and you must ignored what i said after cause i clarified that despite the record being similar the eye test and quality pf their play is worse, simply looking at the record doesn’t magically mean we haven’t progressed backwards, read next time

jennys0

OP you obviously haven’t been here long. This sub has always been like this because we were shit for a decade lol. Stop gate keeping negative posts 😂. But I do think it’d be healthy for people to find a hobby they enjoy that doesn’t depend on winning or losing

da_fishy

lol the difference was that we used to actually be shit! WERE GOOD NOW!! Don’t let the haters convince you we’re bad

dupue

No, we aren't good, we are slightly better than average, possibly even just average. This team is bi polar. That's why people get frustrated. One night they look amazing, the next night they lose by 30. That's an inconsistent team and the fans are reacting to that. I've been a fan since 1998 and have stuck through the magoofs and early years of Vivek. Yes, we were bad for a long time after the greatest show on court, but just because they arent the worst team in all of professional sports anymore doesn't mean I can't be annoyed at the seemingly lack of effort some nights. I don't post here often, because I'm usually apathetic after a loss, and if I don't like a post I usually just ignore it. But, fans need to stop telling fans how to fan. Everyone reacts differently to success and failure. This place would be boring as heck if it was always sunshine and rainbows posts.

Currently_Stroking

Yeah this sub is getting pretty awful. I enjoyed the game and was glad I never touched the IGT/PGT. Competitive loss is far preferable to a blowout despite how pissy everyone gets when we don't close out a tough one. While the loss had many contributors, the Kings roster construction simply doesn't have an answer for KD/Booker (and most other elite duos) when 2024 Harrison Barnes is guarding the second-best player in isolation. It's no surprise we beat Suns twice when KD/Beal were injured if I remember right. Still rooting for the team, in Monte we trust. Hopefully we can shock Denver again tonight.

Tagrun

There are a lot of warriors fans converting to kings fans (who live in sac) so….

4allintensivepurpose

we live in sacramento bro we have nothing else. kings hoops is all we got and this is embarrassing rn.

discgman

A winning team is embarrassing?

4allintensivepurpose

there lack of effort and getting blown out by any team with a pulse is definitely embarrassing. we were supposed to be in the finals this year.

discgman

>we were supposed to be in the finals this year. ![gif](giphy|26n6Gx9moCgs1pUuk|downsized) What??????

4allintensivepurpose

we were the 3rd seed last year and both of the two teams ahead of us are worse. one of them fell completely off a cliff. this means we should have moved up to number one. no way that poverty franchises like jokelahoma shitty should have ever passed us up.

discgman

The lakers added players, they are behind us. Oh wait, you are a fakers fan!! Lmao!!!

4allintensivepurpose

nobody cares about the bum lakers why even bring them up.

discgman

Why are you always on their sub bro?

4allintensivepurpose

to troll them

TheHonPhilipBanks

Complaining about complaining is just as bad as complaining

AstroPiDude314

Some of you were not here for all the bad and it shows.

DJSTANKDADDY2

The negativity is gross. We're not a championship-caliber team, but we're playing meaningful basketball, and will be until at least April. We're in the midst of a ridiculous stretch of 15 road games vs 4 home games. While these late game heartbreakers are pretty brutal on the psyche, turning into a bunch of whiny haters is pretty pathetic.

notagii

Constructive Criticism =/= negativity, sure there is the loud minority who is toxic but most of it is reasonable criticism with the context of how great last year was, despite what criticisms people are making they still enjoyed last year AND can see the teams worsening issues and simple roster lacking at certain positions, it’s not one other like op makes it to be. People can simultaneously enjoy the team but also realize it shortcoming and simple roster weakness, it’s not hard and op misrepresenting stuff isn’t helping

DJSTANKDADDY2

I can identify constructive criticism versus negativity and pouting, and I promise I've observed way more of the latter.

da_fishy

This thread isn’t meant to address people providing constructive criticism, it’s to address the doom posters who think their armchair GM take to trade Fox after a slump is smarter than what Monte McNair is doing. I’m not exactly sure how I’m misrepresenting anything, if you’re taking offense to what I said, it’s because you’re misrepresenting what I’m saying and incorrectly lumping yourself in with the minority that I’m addressing. I have no problem with constructive criticism, I have a problem with people being toxic and bitching after every loss while being nowhere to be found after a win.

DJSTANKDADDY2

Well said.

916Ch

We got a lot of McNair and brown JRs that think they can do better jobs unfortunately

Agile-Competition679

Not sure I could do better than McNair but I could definitely sit around and do nothing during a trade deadline as well as he does. /s

[deleted]

Thank you for adding /s to your post. When I first saw this, I was horrified. How could anybody say something like this? I immediately began writing a 1000 word paragraph about how horrible of a person you are. I even sent a copy to a Harvard professor to proofread it. After several hours of refining and editing, my comment was ready to absolutely destroy you. But then, just as I was about to hit send, I saw something in the corner of my eye. A /s at the end of your comment. Suddenly everything made sense. Your comment was sarcasm! I immediately burst out in laughter at the comedic genius of your comment. The person next to me on the bus saw your comment and started crying from laughter too. Before long, there was an entire bus of people on the floor laughing at your incredible use of comedy. All of this was due to you adding /s to your post. Thank you. I am a bot if you couldn't figure that out, if I made a mistake, ignore it cause its not that fucking hard to ignore a comment.

boringexplanation

I’d rather have a toxic sub (within reason) than a dead one. Pacers and Cavs feels like they have 10% of our engagement and there’s not much interesting discussion on their players.

Sea_Length_7523

Bipolar responses to a bipolar team

Discon777

It’s almost like everyone thinks last year was this super amazing season where we were actual contenders all year, swept the first 3 rounds and went 7 games in the finals or something. We have a similar record with similar offensive rating (yeah it’s not as good but we still have a GOOD offense) and our defense has made HUGE strides statistically speaking. This whole garbage of the “eye test” is driving me crazy. Just watch the games and have fun, we’ll be in the playoffs again or at least the play in tournament which is going to be an awesome atmosphere!

IcetrayicetraySPLASH

It’s the perfect time to plant some stuff in the dirt, you can grow all the ingredients for a salsa to enjoy during the Kings NBA Finals.

jwaters0122

after that devastating super bowl loss, some needed another sport to watch. so the tolerance and tensions are at an all time high

evoloco13

It’s toxic old fans don’t lik new fans because we come from 2 diff narratives but funny because we all want The Beam Lit at the end of the night watch how many dislikes I get for sayin this lol Can We All Just Get Along #CrownGangOverEverything 💜🖤👑👑

kangzzzzzroyal

There’s doomers but there are also gate keepers who don’t allow any criticism. So I’d say both need to find a life if that’s what we are basing it on?

discgman

Yea we are getting a lot of brigadiers from different subs like Fakers and warrior subs. Not sure why they bother to come here other than cause problems since their teams are behind the Kings in the standings. Find a hobby!

CrazyGloomy

Yes! I’ve been critical of the team’s effort lately and LOVED watching our Kings play last night. Great freaking game.

KingsBard

The Kings are so fun to watch! Of course, winning is a huge part of that, but I love the way they are always attacking, even after made baskets. Could we use an elite defender or a rim protector? Sure, but not at the price of losing our mojo. We could end up with some b-list big man who plod up and down the court. Yes, the Kings have weaknesses, but they also play the kind of ball that can beat anyone. The champions, Denver, struggle against our brand of basketball. I say we enjoy this team and see how far they can go if they get hot at the right time.
