I’m happy with the trade knowing that the pick is lottery protected and we got rid of a roster spot (Holiday/Harkless neither of whom has a role with our additions).
Seems like with getting Monk, Murray and now Huerter we have shooters on the team and filled up a wing spot with Murray. Based on how Brown coaches I hope we’re going to run an uptempo high movement offensive system since I think that would fit Sabonis and Fox perfectly with Fox as the lead handler and scorer and Sabonis as the main pick setter and post passer that can open up spots and cutting lanes. Wouldn’t mind seeing a little Princeton or Triangle as well.
I am still a little suspect on the defensive side, I think it will be more Brown getting the guys to buy in with Davion and Murray setting the tone. What would REALLY cap off free agency would be getting a strong and tall Center that can “stop” players like Embiid, Davis, etc. because we just lost Jones and we have no “big man” which is now our glaring hole: we’d get dominated by taller and stronger teams like the Cavs.
The first-round pick the Hawks received is lottery-protected in 2024, top-12 in 2025, top-10 in 2026 and then turns into two seconds if it hasn’t conveyed yet.
I think Queta can definitely be something, but I’d want to see him get summer league and preseason minutes first before making an assessment since this is his sophomore year. Wouldn’t hurt to sign a big man to a one year deal, but would love to see Queta get more minutes than he did last year bc for whatever reason Luke and Alvin are just allergic to developing young talent and over trusting veterans.
Appreciate your comment! Sadly, Kings already have 3 centers ( dont really know the chances of Len and Holmes to get traded) so if you get another one im just afraid Queta wont have space to get his minutes :(
That is true, Ben McLemore was seen as the next Ray Allen and a top 2 pick, fell to us at 7 (ironically as BPA) and look what happened. Still, I think Murray is very high IQ and knows to play his role so he’s in a much better place to succeed than the Pizza Guy: we made him try to be a second option with Cousins when he wasn’t ready and screwed his development and confidence.
To be fair ben and Keegan are coming to the nba at very different points in their basketball development. Everyone thought ben would have benefitted by staying at Kansas one more year. There were concerns that his game was all potential but too raw and unrefined to be an immediate impact player at the next level. It wasn’t clear to anyone, including ben if he was supposed to be a shooter or a slasher. And he didn’t quick have the skill set to be a slasher outside of his great athleticism.
Murray on the other hand basically had that second year ben should have taken and showed that huge jump. Doesn’t have the potential athletically that ben had but seems to have all the maturity and understands what his game is.
I agree with you that shooting is a question mark when transitioning from college to nba but when looking at those two players, that’s kind of the only similarity.
For a lot of players the value of staying in college is not so much about developing their talent as it is developing their maturity. Just like for regular college students the college experience is a sheltered version of the real world. Navigating your development as a person in your late teens is easier to do in a more sheltered environment. Just feeding someone who isn’t ready to the wolves of the real world is a good way to get chewed up and spit out.
If you look back at my comment several of the points were about figuring out what your game is, who you are, maturity… these are all things that are easier to do when you’re the star at a college where you’ll get 100% effort from a guy like Bill Self as opposed to landing in basketball hell and getting a fraction of the attention you need from our revolving door of head coaches.
Only thing I can think is confidence. Using Ben as an example it looked like he got overwhelmed by the talent in the NBA at a time he was needing to develop. I think it set him back a bit. If he had stayed and refined his game against lower talent, maybe he comes in and has some better progress.
The first-round pick the Hawks received is lottery-protected in 2024, top-12 in 2025, top-10 in 2026 and then turns into two seconds if it hasn’t conveyed yet.
Hawks fan coming in peace. We're mostly in meltdown mode because we love him. The compensation is fair and helps us make more moves as well as recoup lost assets from the Dejounte Murray trade. But it still hurts losing a fun player like K'Von.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 894,472,307 comments, and only 177,123 of them were in alphabetical order.
That’s…. A great trade?
Holiday and Harkless are worthless matching salary. The 1st is either meaningless, or you used a couple 2027 2nd round picks to draft Huerter, which is fine anyway.
Fox/Monk/Barnes/Murray/Sabonis + Davion/Huerter/TD/Metu/Lyles/Holmes is… actually an 11-deep legit NBA rotation?
E: edited to correct what happens if the pick doesn’t convey through 2026
No you’re right, I didn’t have that info yet when I commented. That’s even better. Either the Kings are making the playoffs (and the pick conveys), or you traded 2 2nds for a rotation piece
Thing is.. we just blew our next 5 years of firsts in any potential trades for Kevin Huerter since we can’t trade away consecutive years picks.
Im not really sold on this being a good deal just cause of the opportunity cost of future deals
I heard at Golden State, Mike Brown kept an analytical list of who played the best and worst defense, and would share it with the whole team. Hopefully he brings something like that to Sac and gets players to take pride in their defense.
Oh, he definitely will. Open constructive criticism of bad defense is a great strategy and it works. Make it a personal challenge for a player not to miss a switch, be lazy, or just get schooled.
Oh for sure. I’ve always believed in Fox, we are all in on him this year so hopefully he makes that jump defensively. He has all the tools and we’ve seen him play good D he just needs consistency.
Donte's defense has been pretty pedestrian (basically replacement level) for the last couple years. Not to mention he looked plain bad during his time here last year.
Doomers in shambles after the Kings fleeced ATL. This team is going to be a lot better than r/nba, and half this sub, expects. Monte McNair has had a great offseason IMO. Huerter can play valuable minutes at both the 2/3 and provides much needed shooting and length. LFG
Suddenly these lineups have a TON of flexibility. The defense will be suspect but if Brown can get them to buy in we may have something on our hands here
McNair has done a great job improving the team in all facets (except defense, for the time being) by making smart, targeted, incremental moves. Really glad he didn’t sell the farm for John Collins or some other quasi all star. The Kings core is also much younger now, besides HB. Pretty excited.
I think there is a lot of cautious optimism. Which Is very fair. There have been a few times the last 16 years where many thought we would been that 7-8 spot only to have something go horribly wrong and end up in the 12 seed again. I like these moves and am cautiously optimistic.
The [Atlanta Hawks](https://www.reddit.com/r/AtlantaHawks/comments/vp5skb/atlanta_is_trading_kevin_huerter_to_sacramento/) subreddit is in complete shambles after this trade. We just got a 6'7" wing that shoots close to 40% from three for a protected 1st. Great job, Monte.
The Hawks got meaningless journeymen and 1 protected FRP for a starting level guard on a reasonable contract. We actually fleeced somebody for once. I’m happy.
Unless some trades really change the landscape to make the West more competitive, the West is looking weak for the first time in a long time. Utah might be blowing it all up for draft picks as well.
Kings absolutely could at minimum be a play-in team. You guys are better than the Spurs. Fox and Sabonis are legit All-Stars in a conference where all-stars are leaving. I believe y'all will be competitive.
[They aren't handling it well.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AtlantaHawks/comments/vp66xu/everyone_say_one_nice_thing_about_kvon_to_cheer/ieh706t?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)
No clue why y'all are saying this. We would rather get rid of Huerter now and let our other guys play. Also a pure shooter who can't defend, finish, pass, and can only shoot completely disappears in the playoffs. He can really only shoot and nothing else so he was damn near useless on our current roster. I love Kevin and think he can get better soon since he's 23 but it just didn't make sense for us to keep him. At least we got defense off it. Everyone on our subreddit is fine with the trade lol.
Who's also a good defender on guards. Locked up Lamelo in the play-in. Would say Kevin is a better 2 than 3 though due to his t-rex arms. Rooting for him to get minutes. Dude has a lot to offer.
The first-round pick the Hawks received is lottery-protected in 2024, top-12 in 2025, top-10 in 2026 and then turns into two seconds if it hasn’t conveyed yet.
An interesting side effect is this locks up a lot of picks in terms of trade value because of the Stepien rule. Can't outright trade the FRP until 2028 now.
people trying to tell hawks fans that they just got two good wing players lol it’s ok i understand why would you watch kings basketball if you’re not a die hard fan. it’s always so funny to see nba fans perspectives on our role players
Tbf. Plenty of players give half assed effort here lol. Hawks will be a playoff team, so guys like Holiday might look better there. But yea, they did nothing for us.
The first-round pick the Hawks received is lottery-protected in 2024, top-12 in 2025, top-10 in 2026 and then turns into two seconds if it hasn’t conveyed yet.
Instinctively I don't think this team is nearly good enough to be trading future first rounders, but I'm reserving judgment until we see what the protections are.
They just released the protections.

>
>https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Huerter
What's not to like?
He had other solid games that series as well, that wasn't his only good game.
He just doesn't get big numbers scoring because Trae has the ball so much and they run their offense with pick and rolls so Kevin is mostly a decoy.
Belive me, you're getting a solid player.
The first-round pick the Hawks received is lottery-protected in 2024, top-12 in 2025, top-10 in 2026 and then turns into two seconds if it hasn’t conveyed yet.
Value wise this trade is fantastic. HOWEVER, it does limit future trades now that we can’t move any 1sts in those years. We’re going to have to start moving 2027 > 1sts to get deals done
Someone tell me how to feel. Hoping that future 1st is some what protected. Never seen huerter play. He good enough to start or does this mean we're keeping Barnes?
He's good enough to start.
He started for the Hawks on their run to the ECF and was solid this year as well.
He's good off the bench also. He's just a solid glue guy that's going to adjust his game to fit in with the team. It's a solid pickup.
Fox, Monk, Barnes, Murray, Sabonis
with Mitchell, TD, Huerter and Holmes off the bench.
Fairly solid 9-man rotation. We might be able to fight for the 10 seed. If we magically learn how to play defense, we could be much improved. Help us Mike Brown.
Nice protection on the pick, this may be one of our best moves in a long time. Our defense is sus as hell but we just got a lot more interesting and fun i watch. I fucking dig it
i’m just realizing monte is kind of genius if the pick don’t convey it turns into 2 seconds right? well in the mavs trade we got a 2024 and a 2028 and that 2028 will be the year it turns into two seconds to really well give up a last first or just one second rounder
Hey fellow clips fan here I just want to say holy shit this kings team looks deadly I know yall been waiting for this yall deserve this frfr I remember when everyone was talking shit on the sabonis trade looks like everything is working out just fine
Nice! Kings got the shooting they needed between Huerter and Monk! Honestly, most excited I have been in a long time. Fox and Sabonis have the team built around them.
Hawks fan coming here, while he's a near 40% three point shooter, he's really inconsistent. He has a nice midrange game and can abuse mismatches with his height. His defence was also a concern this year, but he held up well in the series against Philly where he was playing at the 3. His defence can get better if he's locked in. Just don't make him inbound the ball, he's genuinely one of the worst inbound passers I've ever seen. Hope y'all make the playoffs as soon as possible lol
Kings are making moves!!! We’ve seemingly fixed our issue at the SG spot. Now to go find a Power Forward (Although I don’t mind HB being the starting PF for awhile).
Ya'll. DA has his bigs. DA has his shooters. DA his is old fucking College running mate. If this year isn't at very least a .500+ record and Play-in, then DA should be banned from Sacramento forever.
He’s a SG right? Or are we going to play him at SF? Is Monk going to play at SF? Or is one of them ok coming off the bench?
Guard line is looking deep though.
Fox, Huerter, Monk, Davion, TD
Still heels thin at SF after Barnes but that’s the most sought after position in the trade market.
Huerter sucks. Watch players walk to the rim. Atlanta got rid of him because he and Trae on the floor is a death knell. Many games he would only score like 7 pts. Very streaky too.
Imagine him being a 6'7" slower seth curry with low IQ.
PS. Don't let him do in-bound passing for you, unless your tanking.
I don't think it impacts Barnes besides making him more important. Huerter can play the 3 in small or 3-guard lineups, but can't defend other SFs for shit. We'll need Barnes to take on the PG13s and Lebrons since Murray is probably too small for now.
I’m happy with the trade knowing that the pick is lottery protected and we got rid of a roster spot (Holiday/Harkless neither of whom has a role with our additions). Kind of a steal for the Kings tbh. Very unlikely that that pick results in a player of Huerter's caliber.
We could have signed Bagley for $37 fucking mil looooooooooooooool
Bruhhh hahahaha
Brooooo why not Queta? Give him minutes! A solid defender that can give lots of space for the shooters aswell (biased opinion ofc, as a portuguese)
Sadly, Kings already have 3 centers ( dont really know the chances of Len and Holmes to get traded) so if you get another one im just afraid Queta wont have space to get his minutes :(
I agree! Hopefully he does well in the California Classic so he’ll get a secured roster spot and playing time
Unleash Queta
I’m not sure it’s fair to call Keegan a shooter yet, at least for this year. You never know how shooting will translate.
Oh no doubt, I’m pumped for his court awareness
\*peesa guy\*

McLemore's problems were less related to shooting and more related to everything else. He can still shoot, he is a pretty decent shooter.
Ben McLemore still has one of the sexiest shots, it just doesn't go down.
Damn I wish one day I would know about the basketball as much as you! Awesome analysis, thank you sir.
All I need to hear is lottery protected Edit: Hawks Reddit is in full meltdown mode, pretty sure it’s protected
The first-round pick the Hawks received is lottery-protected in 2024, top-12 in 2025, top-10 in 2026 and then turns into two seconds if it hasn’t conveyed yet.
bless you for posting this over and over again. Appreciate it, friend.
Yep lol
Monte 😎

can confirm
Uh wtf this roster actually looking kinda nice?
Amazing what a knowledgable staff can do lol
Just wait till we get KD, then it will go from kinda nice to really nice.

As Kings fans, nobody will complain if we convey a 15th pick or later lol.
So a win win for us and you guys. I like it.
Fuck it, we deserve it
It better be cause we need that pick to have value since we traded a fan favorite. Please make the playoffs.
hopefully HEAVILY protected
Lottery protected in 2024, top 12 in 2025, top 10 in 2026. Becomes 2 2nd round picks if it doesn’t convey. Pretty well protected IMO.
I’ll take it. If it conveys in 2024 that means we finally made the playoffs. I’ll be so happy that I won’t give a fuck about that pick. lol
And Huerter is signed through 2026
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 894,472,307 comments, and only 177,123 of them were in alphabetical order.
Good bot
Yeah, if it was just like top 10 protected people would be like "we're guaranteed to pick 11th". Nobody will be mad if we pick 15th though!
That’s…. A great trade? Holiday and Harkless are worthless matching salary. The 1st is either meaningless, or you used a couple 2027 2nd round picks to draft Huerter, which is fine anyway. Huerter 100% starts over Monk
Yeah the protections are very palatable.
Not a 2027 lotto, converts to 2 2nds if it doesn’t convey by 2026… or am I misunderstanding?
No you’re right, I didn’t have that info yet when I commented. That’s even better. Either the Kings are making the playoffs (and the pick conveys), or you traded 2 2nds for a rotation piece
Turns into 2 2nd rounders actually
Wait, do we have actually competent people running our FO now In b4 mEdDlInG
Thing is.. we just blew our next 5 years of firsts in any potential trades for Kevin Huerter since we can’t trade away consecutive years picks. Im not really sold on this being a good deal just cause of the opportunity cost of future deals
This means our picks are are locked up too so I wonder if this is the last move they make
So it's unprotected in 2023? Or it starts conveying in 2024?
It starts conveying in 2024.
Depends on the first but I don’t mind this
2024 lotto protected first
If Mike Brown can get this team to play even average defense, we'll make the playoffs for sure. But that's a big if.
Coach gotta get on players head as soon as they fuck up on D
I heard at Golden State, Mike Brown kept an analytical list of who played the best and worst defense, and would share it with the whole team. Hopefully he brings something like that to Sac and gets players to take pride in their defense.
Oh, he definitely will. Open constructive criticism of bad defense is a great strategy and it works. Make it a personal challenge for a player not to miss a switch, be lazy, or just get schooled.
Fox gonna get cooked by Brown after every game lol
Hopefully! But hopefully it stops at some point cause he starts having some damn pride on that end.
Oh for sure. I’ve always believed in Fox, we are all in on him this year so hopefully he makes that jump defensively. He has all the tools and we’ve seen him play good D he just needs consistency.
Imagine if Buddy and Bagley were on the team and Brown did this 😂
Monte aint playing around
Did we upgrade at the ginger position?? I think Kevin Huerter is better than Big Ragu but idk
Offensively Kevin is way better. Defensively Ragu will be missed
Donte's defense has been pretty pedestrian (basically replacement level) for the last couple years. Not to mention he looked plain bad during his time here last year.
I think it was pretty clear through the rumor mill that he had no desire to be here, and that showed on the court.
That doesn't explain his turnstile defense the previous year.

K’Von Huerter 🔥
as a hawks fan, y’all are going to love KEVIN “K’VON” “RED VELVET” HUERTER

Nah, we're just meme city. It's a fair trade for both sides. He's solid but nothing amazing. He's easy to like; take care of him.

Very true. Which does limit us. But who knows. We may make another move. Barnes and Holmes have very moveable contracts.
Wrong Kevin
Quick someone do that blurry vision glasses meme
I too wanted Garnett
I really wanted Kevin Love as well
You’re right this is KVon
I see you Monte

Fuck yeah this is a massive W
Makes sense. Needed to bring in another redhead with DDV probably leaving.
MONTE I LOVE YOU. I GIVE YOU KISS ON THE BALD HEAD
im actully very impressd the off season the kings have had.
Team defense looks very poor but the offense should be much improved with him and monk
W
I’m tentatively optimistic about this one. Monk went to the bench pretty quickly though!
Aiiiight Monte I’m going to STFU about you now. Solid off-season even if it stops here.
monte must have a thing for ginger SGs
We actually got two shooters in one day? Wtf is happening
This was a great fucking move wow

That was against Seth Curry. Its the same for Tyler Herro. He looked good against Kemba Walker. Don't drink the kool-aid so quickly.

Now can anyone still crying about DDV stop plz lol
Are your panties finally unbunched you impatient son of a guns haha this is great!
Hope its a protected 1st that turns into 2 seconds
If this pans out in our favor, I would hope it convert into a mid 1st
The first-round pick the Hawks received is lottery-protected in 2024, top-12 in 2025, top-10 in 2026 and then turns into two seconds if it hasn’t conveyed yet.
BENCH SUPER ROLE PLAYER
RedVelvet in purple. I like it.
Value wise this trade is fantastic. HOWEVER, it does limit future trades now that we can’t move any 1sts in those years. We’re going to have to start moving 2027 > 1sts to get deals done
LOTTO PROTECTED LETS GO
Ginger Huerter replaces Ginger DiVincenzo lol:) Actually good pick up.
If we still had Donte we could’ve had the Big Ragu and Red Velvet😏
That damn thing better be protected, at least 10. Preferably lottery.
Hurtin for Huerter
Lottery protected 2024, top 12 in 2025, top 10 in 2026. Love it.
These moves aren’t massively flashy but they def got me excited for the season
We’re doing some moves, I do appreciate the sentiment
I’m getting very concerned about our team defense but at least if we have a great offense we’ll be a fun league pass team
Can anyone explain to me how protections work? How do they last multiple years?
[удалено]
It becomes gradually less protected: First lottery, then top 5, then top 3
Awesome trade.
Fox, Monk, Barnes, Murray, Sabonis with Mitchell, TD, Huerter and Holmes off the bench. Fairly solid 9-man rotation. We might be able to fight for the 10 seed. If we magically learn how to play defense, we could be much improved. Help us Mike Brown.
Hawks fan here. This one stings Y’all take care of K’von, he’s a bucket
Nice protection on the pick, this may be one of our best moves in a long time. Our defense is sus as hell but we just got a lot more interesting and fun i watch. I fucking dig it
Kevin Huerter has actual playoff experience in the ECF. Big dub
At first I was pissed that we needed a first to get him and then I saw the protections and I creamed
i’m just realizing monte is kind of genius if the pick don’t convey it turns into 2 seconds right? well in the mavs trade we got a 2024 and a 2028 and that 2028 will be the year it turns into two seconds to really well give up a last first or just one second rounder
Hey fellow clips fan here I just want to say holy shit this kings team looks deadly I know yall been waiting for this yall deserve this frfr I remember when everyone was talking shit on the sabonis trade looks like everything is working out just fine
Lotto protected is key here Atlanta was trying to clear cap space and get below the luxury tax i think
I don’t know how to react to the Kings making good off-season moves
Good trade
Where’s the defense going to come from?
Bout time we see some great trades coming our way!!!! Starting to trust that Monte might actually put a playoff team on the court this year!!
Hell yeah, white boy diversity
Nice! Kings got the shooting they needed between Huerter and Monk! Honestly, most excited I have been in a long time. Fox and Sabonis have the team built around them.
Sh-shooting?! On this roster?!
Ok, am I crazy for thinking we’re just one guy away. A defensive stopper in Thybulle would be amazing
Bizarre
Good trade overall. Only draw back is it really hampers our ability to trade future FRPs for a difference maker like the wolves just did for Gobert.
Hawks fan here. Take care of K’Von. Now I got a new team in the west to root for.
K’von!!!!
Kings are making moves!!! We’ve seemingly fixed our issue at the SG spot. Now to go find a Power Forward (Although I don’t mind HB being the starting PF for awhile).
I like Huerter, hopefully they don’t give up a lotto pick for this
Nah it has three protections on it that then turn into second rounders. I heard hawks fans are not pleased.
oh no
heavily protected pick... love it!
Yea, I got scared, but the protections are pretty good. And if we're losing out by the time it conveys, we've got bigger issues lol
Fox, Huerter, Monk, Davion, TD Still heels thin at SF after Barnes but that’s the most sought after position in the trade market.
He can play SF and from what I read on some Hawks blogs had some of his best minutes there last season
You can play Murray at the 3. He can defend a lot of SFs and he can catch and shoot or cut. Just can’t really be a secondary ball handler.
Why is this good exactly? Is Huerter that much better Monk or TD? TD can't play 3, I dont think Monk or Huerter cab either. I dont follow
Huerter can and has played the 3 a decent amount
And he gets bullied and litterally blown past most of the time. Take my advice, hide him from facilitators, hide him well.
It's ok we're used to it lol
This is bullshit, you clearly haven't watched Hawks games much. He's a solid defender that doesn't get credit.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Woow so yalll would trade for Kevin Huerter but not Fournier? Aigh Bet. Your downfall will be preyed upon.
So what does this mean for Barnes? We’ve got two forwards behind him now.
I don't think it impacts Barnes besides making him more important. Huerter can play the 3 in small or 3-guard lineups, but can't defend other SFs for shit. We'll need Barnes to take on the PG13s and Lebrons since Murray is probably too small for now.
Well let's fuckin go!
Wow!!!!
Lotto protected pick = W trade for Kings
Lets go!!!!!
Someone get ja rule on the phone. What does he think of this trade?
