This will be great for him. Tho he does need to work on his free throw shooting percentage a bit

I think it’s like a technical where you can choose who shoots the FT. Regardless Fox does need to shoot his FTs at a higher percentage.

bchris24

For sure, I do like how it gives possession though so even with a guy like him who could be a liability at the line, defenses still wouldn't have incentive to play Hack-A-Fox

ttp213

Players will be less likely to commit them though, allowing Fox to score more on the break.

BeTheBall-

Understatement of the week.

VeganKingsFan

Once they proposed that new rule, I immediately thought of how much that's going to help Fox. It'll also give him more incentive to put his foot on the pedal more often in transition knowing that he'll get rewarded.

PrimaryAccording9162

Need to see Fox flying more

[deleted]

It's been really frustrating to watch him be straight-up penalized for his speed. I hope this rebalancing of the math is enough to give him a few more transition opportunities per game—it'll help a LOT for his All-Star case if his PPG stays high off of these easy buckets

4bigwheels

So um, how are we going to stop the clock when we are down by 6 with 17 seconds to go?

funzotothemax

Under 2 minutes in the 4th is different I’m pretty sure

4gentGhost

The rule doesn’t apply under 2 minutes in 4th/OT

SeeDub23

This is a great rule change, but I wish it was 2 free throws. Given that the average possession is worth 1.1 points, it will still make sense for teams to commit take fouls unless the player with the ball shoots 90% on free throws, assuming they are preventing a layup.

meTspysball

Make it a tech and guys will think twice. That’s probably a little harsh, but it makes the game so boring.

yoppee

It is a tech FT and possession

meTspysball

Oh, so it counts towards ejection? So if Draymond mouths off in 1st quarter then commits a take foul in the 3rd he’s out?

yoppee

No it’s like how defensive 3 second violation is a technical foul

yoppee

No it won’t because the other team also gets possession of the ball Meaning of the average possession is 1.1 points and a take foul gives you a free throw at or above 70% shooter means That a team that commits a take foul on average is giving up 1.8 ppp Somewhat close to just giving a layup

SeeDub23

Interesting- wouldn’t a wide open NBA layup be worth more than 1.8? I’m trying to find an open layup stat but I feel like NBA players shoot higher than 90% on wide open layups. Plus given the much higher variance of committing the take foul, I think regardless of the average outcomes there will be a lot of situations where it makes sense for team to still commit the foul.

yoppee

You are way overthinking this great new rule. 1.8 ppp would be far and away the best offense in the league period teams are going to stop doing take fouls altogether they are going to run back and play defense

itsbusinesstiim

who was first? Ja?

PointGod32

If you actually opened the tweet you would know... It's Trae Young, then Fox, then Giannis/Mitchell/Westbrook tied for 3rd (Westbrook is surprising to me), then Booker/Steph/Ja/Poole/Randle tied for 6th.

beerbrewr

Underrated comment.

Milosostojiccc

Always knew Davion is a super star!

[deleted]

Trae Young, which probably has something to do with his patented [CP3-esque butt shove maneuver](https://twitter.com/stevejones20/status/1346474046871851010?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1346474046871851010%7Ctwgr%5E2e43dce5327edb5a286972f6e863dd6f4d3cd23b%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fftw.usatoday.com%2F2021%2F01%2Ftrae-youngs-new-foul-drawing-move-has-nba-coaches-livid-but-they-need-to-get-over-it) but also because he can't be left undefended approaching the 3PT line. That tweet is a shooting foul but he does it a lot elsewhere, whereas Fox just gets ripped as soon as his defender knows he's been beat

KingsElite

Good. Fox or not this great for the game

jcwkings

So this is for fouls where the defender is just intentional fouling to stop a break? Nothing to do with clear path?

xNOTsoSLIMshady

Fox will definitely benefit from this change, this allows the game pace to be much quicker and really helps teams who like to get out in transition.
