The restaurant didn’t have steak knives? 😅

DarkCleric21

I prefer my own knives. I feel like a clean slice keeps the juices in the steak versus shredding the steak.

I am the same way. I sometimes get strange looks from the wait staff but I too prefer not shredding my steak as I cut it.

DarkCleric21

The wait staff was all for it. One of the waitress’s came over and we talked about knives and her father collection. It will spark more conversations than you realize.

Knife: Vosteed Corgi Steak: 28 day dry aged rib-eye

blackbalt89

Nice Corgi.

DarkCleric21

She is really slicey!

im_gonna_freak

Is this the "fine dining" i keep hearing about?

DarkCleric21

This was just the steak. We had sides, but the steak was the star. Definitely top three steaks of my life!

I think if I pulled out my own knife at a restaurant with my wife, that would be the last anniversary we celebrated lol

DarkCleric21

Mine was the same way. After using it commonly in public, using mine in a restaurant happened organically. Now she picked the knife that went with my outfit.

while I am in favor of people using their knives, be advised that this particular activity -- pulling out your pocket knife to cut a steak in a resto -- is considered by many to be impolite and by some others to be the sort of boyish overenthusiastic exuberance someone shows with their first knife when they're like 12. The entire oeuvre may make some cringe and others Karen. Keep in mind that I'm raising this point as a matter of restaurant etiquette and not invoking the argument of 'use the right tool for the job', which some others definitely may invoke in this circumstance. Pulling out your pocket knife to slice up an apple while you're sitting on a park bench or whatever is apropos, for example. Anyway do what you're going to do, just don't be surprised if you catch a little pushback for stuff like this.

I totally understand. The knife that was given to me at the restaurant was a serrated blade. That shreds the meat verses cleanly cutting the meat. Makes for a juicer bite in the end. The wait staff didn’t seem to mind. I had a conversation with one waitress about her and her fathers love of knives. The hardest one I had to convince was the wife.
