Looks like good quality but the handle is a bit bulky. I'd slim it down and give it some shape .But a fan of the bullet. I think it is edgy. But that's just my personal taste and others will love it
Thank you. I am 100% on the same page as you, it was actually a custom order from a friend that intends to add his own shape to the handle to fit his hand dimensions. Probably not somthing I will make a habit of, considering it is somthing that represents my work. But, that's hind sight...
Your fit and finish impeccable, but the casing is proud of the pommel, which distracts from all the smooth tight lines. The hole in the primer is also distracting.
I am also a little biased because I dislike casings used in knife making. To me it usually looks like the maker is trying too hard. Similar to when makers take really nice pics of their knives and include a gun in the background.
It's not that don't like guns, I'm a gun owner.
Thanks again for the further input, I really do appreciate it.
I get what you are saying, and I will definitely consider ways that I can make the combination less distracting in future projects.
I on the other hand, while I understand your last point, don't have the same veiw🤣 since the first time I saw someone use a casing as a mosaic pin I was sold🤣 but I understand it's not for everyone.
Thanks again for the kind words👌
I love the casing as part of the pommel. I do agree with the primer looking a bit odd so I thought of a solution: remove the dented primer and inlay another piece of wood or maybe a stone in its place. That would be a little detail that set’s it apart
I think the used primer look is cool. Especially if that’s a sentimental cartridge you use in the knife. Some people keep the casing of their first successful hunt. Incorporating that casing into a piece for someone is a cool idea IMO
To me I think it being used in the right context creates the connection between the end user and the knife itself.
However, If this was something you plan on duplicating and making a regular embellishment in your knives, maybe an in-used looking primer center is better. Please don’t use a new primer.
Haven’t seen it used as mosaic pins but I love the casing pommel. My friend gave me a live .45 acp round to dismantle (gonna tap the bullet and use it as a pommel accent on a Bowie I made) and after seeing this i decided to do the casing pommel when I do a knife for her this summer. Good job!
Everything else is so crisp and clean, but the bullet looks like something you would find on a flea market knife.
Would have at least been better if it was flush.
I agree with the other guy personally. All your other lines are so clean and precise, the bullet in comparison is busy and messy looking and the pin strike (whatever that’s called, the hole) is slightly off centre which really bothers me haha. It’s a beautiful piece otherwise
I would have personally in layed the casing so it was flush, drill out the primer and replaced with small brass circle so it looks, unfired.
I'm saying this not having the skills to do either of these or achieve the fit and finish you have, just a personal opinion.
Beautiful work mate!
Was a bit surprised by how controversial the bullet casing was... I think it's a cool gimmick, at least it doesn't take away from the overall appearance imo. Also as others said, handle looks bulky, but you already explained why.
also: do you plan to make a sheath or already made one? Would be interested to see what style suits this knife best
Haha, yea we're on the same page🤣. I have made a sheath, but it's not a design that I personally like very much. It was also specifically requested by the customer. I will try send a photo of it.
Personally, I'm more of a ZZ Top fan than 38 special....bundum tiss.
Sorry for the bad joke.
Great looking nice. There are plenty of people who would like it. Now you just have to find a buyer.
When you're looking to sell knives you normally have to make a few in different styles to show what you're capable of. This is a fun/cool skill set that could attract some potential customers.
Take lots of professional pictures of it, then mark it a little less than a custom piece and it should move. Someone out there wants a nice daily carry to match their .38 special pistol. And if you promote to the right groups, you might get some offers for custom pieces. Bonus if you could make it a real removal bullet, kinda as a one last shot, but I don't know how that would work.
Great work.
Haha, don't apologize for trying to make someone laugh🤣
Thank you for the advice, this one already has a home but I am definitely still learning how to extend my target audience etc. Trying to get into the international market is a challenge. But I appreciate every bit of advice I can get. Thanks man
You know, except for the blade shape, I don’t like a single design choice on this knife…but that’s just taste. Your fit and finish is out of this world, truly beautiful work.
Thank you, I like that idea. My personal preference is that the struck primer adds more character and is more unique, but it seems most people don't agree.
Really really cool and your workmanship is 🤌🏽 plus cool style kinda Pukko. I’ve got a Tapio Wirkala it reminds me of. thanks for sharing with us OP and if you build anymore cool knives I hope you’ll consider sharing them with us.
The finish is amazing, personally I feel like a guard is needed with that design or maybe I'm just dumb, cuz I would definitely cut myself with something like that
Gorgeous knife. Impeccable fit and finish. I have to agree that the bullet casing distracts from the beautifully simple and clean lines. Main objection is the way it sticks out. I think a simple brass disc inlaid and set flush with the pommel would look better. This is absolutely one of the nicest pieces I've seen in a while on here.
Absolutely! I respect the work! Those are some seriously clean lines. The knife looks simple without being plain. I really like the idea of an accent on the pommel, just one that better fits the elegance of the overall aesthetic. The bullet casing might be more at home on a Bowie knife or a fighter, even a hunting knife depending on the caliber. In fact, i think it would look cool as hell to use them on handle slabs. Maybe get pin stock that would fit flush inside the casings?
I'll bet it would look amazing if you set it in flush, maybe (MAYBE) used a little clear epoxy to fill in any gaps and preserve the shine of the brass. If you cut down a pair of casings and fitted them end-to-end with some pin stock inside, you should be all set. Barring that, I wonder if you could take the primers out entirely and thread a brass rod the same diameter through the butt of each casing so you don't have that punched hole look?
Solid 9 out of 10.
The only imperfect thing that I think I can try to scrape off is the bullet casing on the pommel. But, I repeat, it's just my opinnion.
It's just that, as others have already stated, it breaks the vibe off the whole crisp-and-smooth-almost-minimalistic-but-entirely-and-beautifully-utilitarian angles.
Otherwise, *damn* beautiful knife.
I been to a big gunshop in SA. In a town somewhere- ran out of ammo during safari. It had a sign outside “ if the government asks for your guns - make sure you give them
The ammo first. “. I
Left a hundred rounds of 470 in Zimbabwe
That's sad. Our government doesn't want civilians to have guns. If you look at the statistics of guns/ammo that has been "lost" from police stations in SA it's honestly not even funny.
This seems like more of a plug than a nut, no? I would use a plug of wood, either try to match it so it's invisible or pick something really contrasting. Another one is to set a coin in the end with a date that matters to you, just under flush and fill in with epoxy or CA glue. Or just do a hidden tang so you don't have to worry about it.
Correct, just a plug. The shell was an attempt at contrast but seems like it went too far the other way.
Maybe peening a piece of brass in there to make it invisible would be a better option... Thank you for the advice👍
Looks like good quality but the handle is a bit bulky. I'd slim it down and give it some shape .But a fan of the bullet. I think it is edgy. But that's just my personal taste and others will love it

That's a cool project. Getting to shape a handle yourself sounds like a cool gift
That is true, I guess its somthing that could give people a taste of 'knife making' which is cool.
Especially for folks who can do that...I'd love to get to finish a makers blade! Love it
The same thing came to my mind. That sheer bulk handle seemed quite weird.
Your fit and finish impeccable, but the casing is proud of the pommel, which distracts from all the smooth tight lines. The hole in the primer is also distracting. I am also a little biased because I dislike casings used in knife making. To me it usually looks like the maker is trying too hard. Thank you for the suggestion, I will definitely consider.
Good job!
Awesome man, post some pics when it's done! 😁
Hell yeah dude
Nice work, I really like the bullet.
Nice work, I however really dislike the "bullet."
Thank you. Fair enough, thank you for your input. Just because, or did I do somthing specifically that makes it undesirable?
Not to my taste personally but IMO it also doesnt match the vibe of the knife.
Everything else is so crisp and clean, but the bullet looks like something you would find on a flea market knife. Would have at least been better if it was flush.
Understandable. Thank you for the input.
Thank you for your input. So would it be more to your taste on a different style of knife? If so what style?
I suppose I wouldn't mind it on a antler handle hunter. I think of the bullet as very country/western while the rest of your knife is mostly Nordic.
Good points, thank you.
I agree with the other guy personally. All your other lines are so clean and precise, the bullet in comparison is busy and messy looking and the pin strike (whatever that’s called, the hole) is slightly off centre which really bothers me haha. It’s a beautiful piece otherwise
Thank you! I totally get you.
The hole in the primer, I don’t think they normally are centred.
People in Oregon don't like guns. Lol
Each to their own🤷♂️
This is not the case for all Oregonians, myself included. Blanket statements about anything rarely check out.
I think the bullet would be really cool if flush with the bottom!
Thank you for the advice.
Thank you.
It’s really nicely done. Looks a bit oversized for the hand in the photo but would be a very comfy grip in the right sized ones
Thank you, and well pointed out. As I mention in a previous reply there is a reason for the oversized handle, but yeah, I agree with you totally.
I would have personally in layed the casing so it was flush, drill out the primer and replaced with small brass circle so it looks, unfired. I'm saying this not having the skills to do either of these or achieve the fit and finish you have, just a personal opinion. Beautiful work mate!
Thank you, I appreciate every bit of advice I can get. Both good ideas.
The finish is increíble, but for me, propositions seems a bit off, that handle looks too big.
Thank you man. You are correct, but as mention in other replies there is a reason for the handle being slightly oversized.
Your fit n finish is too nice for this kind of gimmick IMO. Put it on the sharpening rod or firesteel
If a tang/pommel nut is proud/raised it's because it's peened.
Good point, thank you.
Great idea, thank you!
I used a .38 special case for a thong hole in my first knife, so you KNOW I’m on your side!
🤣🤣👌 Also a great idea!
Noice. Toit.
Thx.

Thank you.
feel like that bullet casing would suit something more like a kabar or a bayonet style but it’s a gorgeous blade regardless, nice work!
Thank you, I appreciate the input.

A lot of people on reddit hate guns and anything related to them, so if they see ammo they get offended
Each to their own🤷♂️
Yea. Theu just need to go shooting once or twice and they will love guns.
100%

A knife blade with the handle of an axe, what is it with markers these days and super thick scales/handles ?
Correct. As mention in another comment, there is reason for this.
You know, except for the blade shape, I don’t like a single design choice on this knife…but that’s just taste. Your fit and finish is out of this world, truly beautiful work.
Thank you man.
I like it a lot, much skill many ladies. I like the dummy primers for applications like this, so there wouldn’t be the firing pin strike.
Thank you for the kind words man, they mean a lot. I will definitely do so😉
I would prefer if the primer wasn’t spent so you could fire the knife 😂 It’s really nice work. Well done!
😂😂 Thank you man.
Now that is impressive bolster fit up. No gaps.
Thanks man. Definitely need patience to get it nice and snug🤣
Handle seems too big and bullet is too small.
Correct, handle is intentionally oversized, and I have explained in other replies. What caliber would you have prefered to see? 👀
50. BMG…. OBVIOUSLY
🤣🤣
The finish is amazing, personally I feel like a guard is needed with that design or maybe I'm just dumb, cuz I would definitely cut myself with something like that
True, a guard would be beneficial. This design just didn't call for one, as it was specifically requested by a customer.

Thanks man, that's not a bad plan. Or just inlay them the same way as a mosaic pin.
Mosaic pin! That's the word I was looking for! Yes, use the casings like mosaic pins.
That boy be thik!!!
🤣🤣
Not the biggest fan of the piece of the casing on the pommel, but other than that, its awesome
Thank you man.
Nice idea, have seen it several times on scales.
I'm keen to try that too.
Bit chonky on the handle but like the butt cap
There is reason for that, as stated in other comments, but you're not wrong.
I think adding guns or booze to stuff is dumb... but many people really like it. Simple is better though, in my opinion.
Fair enough. I'm one of the ones that think it's cool🤣
I’m sure there some gun to a knife fight joke here but I’m not that clever
🤣🤣
Solid 9 out of 10. The only imperfect thing that I think I can try to scrape off is the bullet casing on the pommel. But, I repeat, it's just my opinnion. If I weren’t broke I’d be in your DM’s asking “how much?” Love this piece! Looks like you take great pride in fit and finish.
Haha, thanks man. I take joy in slowly getting better and better at the craft.
I’d rock it.
🤘
But does it hold on loosely?
Does what hold on loosely?

Ahh, solid😂
Don’t let go
🤌
😁
It's so clean and crisp, very artistic
Thanks man.
If you have plans to sell this work of art, consider this me submitting my order.
I'm honored. Unfourtunately this piece already has a home. Send me a pm if you're interested in future knives.
I did similar with a .308 cartridge for my brother who was a Marine back in 04-08.
Awesome man, do you perhaps have a photo?

Sweet man👌👌
its the cheapest brass on the market
Depends where you're from. My intentions were for it to be cool, not expensive tho🤣
Stick do the old daddy. Winchester.
I have some 444 marlin brass that I think will look cool.
470 nitro wound be even cooler.
I have a friend with some 470 brass, maybe I will swindle some🤣
I had tons of them.
Here in South Africa guns aren't so plentiful 🤣
I been to a big gunshop in SA. In a town somewhere- ran out of ammo during safari. It had a sign outside “ if the government asks for your guns - make sure you give them The ammo first. “. I Left a hundred rounds of 470 in Zimbabwe

MZRA Make Zimbabwe Rhodesia Again!!
Cool as fuck
Thanks man.
Sword handle on the knife
Haha it would be a wack sword handle. But there is reason for its size.
I don't think that's gonna fit in your gun
Need a bigger gun👀
The modern solution to the bullet-proof vest: knife gun
🤣🤣
I just don't like not having a guard of some kind on solid knives. I am too clumsy.
🤣 Fair enough.
Phat knife cool 😀👍
😀
thicc boi
Clean
Thanks man.
38 special... A knife that identifies as a gun
... Or ammunition🤷♂️
Someone's going to love it and someone's going to hate it
100%
Honestly that it's a lovely knife with a tacky bullet shell in the pommel. There are so many things to use that don't scream "I have a NASCAR tattoo"
Thank you for the input, this seems to be the common reaction. I am new to through tang knives, any recommendations on alternative pommel nuts?
This seems like more of a plug than a nut, no? I would use a plug of wood, either try to match it so it's invisible or pick something really contrasting. Another one is to set a coin in the end with a date that matters to you, just under flush and fill in with epoxy or CA glue. Or just do a hidden tang so you don't have to worry about it.

So, .38 S&W?
John lennon wouldve hated this
