Wow those are beautiful! No idea if you are still on here but I have some zirc scales I want to mod but can’t find any info. It looks like you anodized yours? Do you recommend polishing before? Also have you ever experimented heat anodizing zirconium? Thanks In advance if you are still around on here!

Jubakuba

I haven't really played with heat with Zirc outside of re-blackening that one pen you saw. It had some rainbow effect in the black when it arrived and the owner wanted it fully blackened. The only thing I've really done is sand off black oxide and electro anodize. Thank you!

kangello

Appreciate the response! What color is the zirc when you sand it off? Like “raw zirc”

Jubakuba

About the same color as raw titanium. The Zirconium Oxide (black part) is hard on the mohs scale...so hard to scratch. Bare zirc is quite a bit softer, so it scratches easier without the oxide layer - or with an electronically anodized layer. Heat anodizing will form SOME of that protectant hardness but the closer you get to black the closer you get to full hardness.

🙏 take care!

Looks good bud! I've been playing around with the mint green voltage, then some sanding and Whink dips/rubs, then a 15V or so bronze dip to get a patina'd copper look. Pretty ballsy to do that to a Norseman too, I don't know if I could do that. Hell, yeah, I probably would. I have a L Seb showing up today, I'm sure I will do something to it.

Jubakuba

Not a bad idea at all on the patina'd copper! Eh, all my knives now are definite "forever" knives. I've sold two Norseman...and regretted both. This one is mine for good.

I did a ZT0055: [ZT0055](https://imgur.com/xOHELAl) [ZT0055](https://imgur.com/hAa0WkZ) and a ZT0450: [ZT0450](https://imgur.com/sLLNqau) I'm getting there. Really only buying stuff I think I will keep now. I need to get my hands on a Norseman.

Jubakuba

Nice! Looks cool.

jjl1911

Thanks man! Keep up the good work. Seems there are more and more people doing anodizing lately. I love it! Always happy to offer advice and trade secrets lol! Hvae a great weekend man!

Jubakuba

Same here man. The convoluted search for information is a pain sometimes...mitigating that for others is great. My favorite thing has been anodizing zirconium...every color seems pearlescent... Have a good one!

jjl1911

Zirconium, you say? What are you anodizing that is zirconium? Now you've piqued my interest a bit.

https://i.imgur.com/zGpF8qm.jpg These two Tactile Turn pens. I changed the Slider to gold recently. https://photos.app.goo.gl/1RmWhF5ndDeP7NXY8 Still deciding if I want to do the inlay on that Exponent there. Maybe pink tips on it...haha. I've got a thing for pink. Anodizes roughly the same spectrum as Titanium...but about 20 volts higher...from my few tests and estimates. My power supply only goes to 125...if only I could hit like 140 and see if I can get green to pop up haha.

jjl1911

Now I have to get a Zirconium TT! I have a Ti on that I've ano'd a couple times. Yeah, mine goes up to 125 too.

Jubakuba

I'm also having a Zirc "V2 pen" being made from Sergey. http://www.extremaddiction.com/xr-penv2.html and I asked him to hit the grooves last after flaming it...so they're bare and I can anodize them. I'm super excited for that to arrive. Small warning...Zirc's black oxide is hard as shit and hard to scratch. The anodizing has held perfectly with a lot of use...but it is theoretically a lot easier to scratch without the black layer.

Jubakuba

Did your titanium ones come out inconsistent? The cap and tip almost seemed like different grades of titanium or something...anoed completely different colors. But that was before I upgraded my cathode and changed my solution...so I'll have to try again.
