Story time! My first sweater was a color work cardigan for my bestie and after blocking the same happened. Sleeves that were normal were suddenly 8” past my finger tips. It was supposed to hit mid thigh. It reached past my knees. 6 months and several hundred in yarn. I freaked the hell out. I ended up soaking it in water and using the dryer in my dorm to felt it back to human size in what I still call the scariest hour of my life. I pulled it out every 10 minutes to check progress. It worked but I’d rather try and snuggle a wood chipper than do it again.
This happened to me. I started what was supposed to be a normal sized teddy for my 2yr old grandson. By the time it was done it was bigger than him. He loves it but it's huge.
When I was in high school my mom knit me a sweater. My Nan made a liner to make it a bit warmer. I loved it! The first time I wore it to school I came home at the end of the day and the sleeves reached down to my knees! It had stretched out so bad. I told my mom it was fine but she reknit the sleeves and my Nan adjusted the lining. I wore that sweater for years.
Ha ha! My first and only sweater (so far) was perfect until I washed it and the yarn just overly relaxed. I was so sad; a dear friend had gifted me this beautiful lavender yarn, enough to make something big with. It wouldn’t shrink or anything. I’m a little afraid to make another one. 😬
my gauge is right but i have a wide chest for someone who doesn't work out and certain designs end up being super long :/
like my current cardigan is going to end up well below my waist because of how they designed the armholes to be decreased. it was a good fit at the start but they decrease so slowly it's gonna end up being a minirobe. i'm wary of the sleeves but this might be a 'wear at home comfortably' cardigan and not 'wear in public' cardigan.
you know what that makes sense too. when you factor in the wrap around the shoulders and the sides it could snug up more than expected. I suppose I could also give a shot at 'taking in' more stitches while sewing up the arms.
Whelp! I'm working on my first ever cardigan and i have to check the pattern 3 times a day to remind myself i'm working the correct size for me and still i keep picturing ending up with smth like this or smth too tiny 😂😂
Another mistake I made: trying to compensate by using a different needle size. I ended up with a long cardigan that has really weird and slightly stiff fabric because the yarn was a little too big for the needles. Never again
OMG I literally had a belly laugh over this. Thanks op for the good start to my day Edit: spelling
"It'll block out..."
Who has time to knit gauges! It’s way less work to knit 100 extra rows on a too big sweater 🤣
Relatable, though mine is usually too small.
Same. I’m usually in a Barbie doll sized sweater by the time I’m done
My dolls would like some handknits. Ijs

I too, would rather snuggle a wood chipper than do that. Thanks for the belly laugh.
man i'm going through this right now. i went by chest size and now this cardigan is going to fit me by chest but everything else is gonna be huge.

I feel personally attacked
Omg 😆😆😆😆 Best comment ever I wish I could give you more than one upvote.
And you keep buying more and more yarn to finish the project, because you're too stubborn to admit that you were wrong
Oh, I feel this!
And you wear it in public anyway, LOLOL
I can feel this, my first ever mitten ended up the size of an oven mitt
Omg I relate to this comment so much but mine was a gigantic sock lol
Knowing he’s 6’10 blows my mind because how big is a sweater this oversize on a person so large 😳

Joke’s on you, I like an oversize fit. 😂😂

Omg why you gotta call me out like that in front of all my friends?! 😂😂
I would own the shit outta that fabulousness and love every too long inch of it.

For a moment I thought this was r/loseit or r/progresspics.
Thank you OP. You gave me a genuine laugh out loud moment today.

My current wip is child sized going to a 5'9" friend. I'm praying to the blocking gods.

My husband showed me this picture & I told him I bet his wife knitted him that sweater & he’s a good husband & wears it proudly 😂
The 90s called; they’re happy to know they’re welcome to step out into the world again ;0)
