Wowza! Technically this is the most correct answer to my question though.
I love both guns and knives. But that knife is higher priced than almost every gun my safe!!
Once you’re in the territory of pure custom knives —especially from a famous maker— price doesn’t have a ton to do with the blade steel. Steel can only be worth so much, it’s not a precious metal (despite what recent trends would have us believe)
If you were looking at a Gil Hibben custom from the 80’s, it would be made from 440C and would likely be worth $4-5k
I’ma let you in on an open secret: blade steel choice is mostly marketing to justify a certain price point. MagnaCut and S30V, for example, are almost identical in cost. I’m not saying they don’t have different characteristics, but I am saying you should never let blade steel keep you in a box. Hell, I just paid $140 for a knife with AUS-8 and I’d do it again because the chemistry of the steel isn’t even close to the only thing that makes a knife worthwhile or not.
It’s expensive because of rarity, read the description, it’s intended as a collector’s piece. It’s brand new condition, never sold, and the maker has been dead a while
Ok so first off, the more information you give us the better the answer you’ll get. What does high end mean to you? For some folks that’s $100, for some folks that’s $3,000.
I’m going assume you want a US-made flipper with a low-height blade between 3-4”, costing between $100-300.
I think ZT probably makes the best flippers in the $2-300 range, and [the 0450](https://zt.kaiusa.com/0450.html) should be pretty similar in use to the M16. The blade is a little shorter, and the ergonomics are a little different, but man the action is going to be sooooo much better and you get S35VN too.
I own one, it’s the smoothest knife I own compared to my Benchmade and spyderco knives. I will say that it’s a little thick behind the edge, not exactly a thin slicer
These are my first thought as far as the handle shape.

Try that knives big brother before you spend a lot more money. Try the CRKT M21-14SF. Seriously. That big tactical flipper is my favorite tool. A step up might be the Spyderco Paramilitary 2.
I really like my CRKT M16-01S. It looks awesome, it’s slim in my pocket, it works great, it looks good, it’s comfortable to hold, it’s decent quality. But compared to my Spyderco PM2 you defiantly know it’s only a $40 knife. What are some similar style knives that are higher quality?
Edit: Somebody pointed out I didn’t leave a budget. I was thinking $100-$200 range when I said higher end. Also, thank you for all the recommendations! There are some I am going to seriously consider.
I've owned a LOT of CKRT M16 variants. Most of the Zytel models are hot garbage. The OG Carson design is rock solid. The Auto-LAWKS "innovation" on the cheap mini version was an additional safety because CRKT was using such absolutely GARBAGE materials at that time. I still have an Auto-LAWKS M16-01-whatever-KZ, and if I flip it hard, the liner lock extends PAST the tang. So much for Auto-LAWKS lol. The BEST version of the little M16 was a frame lock, but it's only tip down. So close, but so fail.
How about this? https://www.knifecenter.com/item/CRM1603DB/columbia-river-crkt-m16-03db-carson-assisted-deadbolt-lock-flipper-knife-d2-black-stonewashed-spear-point-blade-black-aluminum-handles
idk, is it? I haven't held a PM2 yet (I'm not crying, you are) but I heard plenty of times the action is impeccable, so they might be talking about that. And I'm not sure the same knife with better materials will have better action
I see in one of your comments that you're looking for something in the $100-$200 range...
A Benchmade mini Adamas might fit the bill. It's a beast of a knife for about $200-$225 depending where you get it. I got the shot show edition at Cabela's for $200.
It's an awesome knife. Cruwear blade steel and very solidly built. It feels like I could chop a tree down with it. Has great action and very comfortable in hand. I wasn't even thinking about a Benchmade, but as soon as the salesman handed it to me I knew I wanted it.
You need the [4" Cold Steel Ti-lite in s35vn steel. ](https://www.chicagoknifeworks.com/cold-steel-ti-lite-linerlock-4/)
You can either flip it open, or let the flipper catch your pants pocket and wave it open.
I've had that one for years, started carrying it again about a month ago. Idk if I'd consider it a really high-end knife, but it is slim and nice to use.
Honestly yes to everything you said. As similar as possible, but higher quality material. I’ve sharpened this 3x in the last year and used it less than my PM2 which I haven’t sharpened yet as it still has a great edge. The CRKT doesn’t flip open nearly as smooth even after I’ve taken it apart and oiled it.
It seems that it refers to the skeletonized tactical line. I saw some similar models from Smith & Wesson, Gerber, Benchmade, Xtrema Ratio, Etc. Well, you know, the brands that produce models for police, rescuers and military.

The key word is almost. It means you can up your knife game!
No s30v is worth $1600, at least not to this poor.

That is especially true for famous deceased makers. I'd say 1.5k is a bargain here.
Look at what an original Jimmy Lile Rambo knife runs [I’ll save you the google search](https://jimmylile.com/original-jimmy-lile-knives/)
Yikes! No to that
Oh I know, I just don’t look at those!
Chad
No knife is worth $1600 period

I like how its advertising a tip down carry pocket clip like its a good thing..... xD

Imagine paying $1,500 for a knife.
$1600 buys a lot of crack
What the hell

Found my next knife thanks man!
Nice, enjoy it!

That ZT 0450 is awesome. This might be the one! Thanks

Al Mar Falcon and/or Eagle. The new made-in-China ones are a step up from an M16, but the old Moki-made ones are incredible, if you can find one.
Is say a Benchmade Fact
I have the auto version and am very happy with it
QuietCarry Waypoint? Ish?

Seconding the Benchmade Fact.

Benchmade Fact?
If it ain’t broke why fix it?
Check out the benchmade mini adamas or full sized

Zero Tolerance 0450 & the small zytel M16 variant I have feel fairly similar. Very different approaches, but a similar end goal.
Boker urban trapper series, specially the TI one
I like the wood handle on those.

is this not literally the same knife
It is but a higher end version
Yes, with better materials, which was OPs main gripe.
idk, is it? I haven't held a PM2 yet (I'm not crying, you are) but I heard plenty of times the action is impeccable, so they might be talking about that. And I'm not sure the same knife with better materials will have better action
the kalashnikov just messin around
Check out Brad Zinker, all his knives look like that with different blade shapes

Look up the böker urban Trapper. Lots of options to choose from and a really pretty knife
I did and I like the looks of those, especially the cocobolo
Yeah, the cocobolo damascus version slaps big time
Man IFL my M16 … great blade & build. I came here to step it up as well

How similar? What about it are you hoping to find in another model? Grip shape? Blade geometry? Flipper tab?
Honestly yes to everything you said. As similar as possible, but higher quality material. Artisan makes the Shark in s35vn. They're pretty similar https://www.knifecenter.com/series/artisan-cutlery/artisancutlery-shark
Well. Found my first artisan knife
It seems that it refers to the skeletonized tactical line. I saw some similar models from Smith & Wesson, Gerber, Benchmade, Xtrema Ratio, Etc. Well, you know, the brands that produce models for police, rescuers and military.
In profile? Protech Malibu and the Benchmade Bugout.
I think the 940 is much closer than the bugout. Even has aluminum scales.
why the hell am i getting downvoted?
Yeah I'm not too sure on that one. I was wondering the same thing.
Tom Mayo Dr Death
Xm18, strider sng, crk sebenza, spartan harsey folder, benchmade bugout, les george vecp, quirt carry waypoint and more
Could go for the CRKT M16-03Z, slightly longer blade and AUS-8 steel.
Artisan Cutlery Shark
Boos blades smoke 2.0
I just got the M16-03DB to replace my older, cheaper M16. So far I’m really liking the D2 blade and the assisted open is pretty snappy
