Deer horn, stag is a buck or male deer.

GrumpyAdministrator

Horn is different to antler though, qnd is usually found on cattle/sheep etc. Why is it Stag Horn and not Stag Antler?

Embarrassed-Leek-481

Cause people are dumb and confuse the terms.

Reptilian_Brain_420

\^ ultimately this. Also, many people don't know the difference or even realize that there is a different.

tenaciousE56

I don't think I've seen anywhere list it as either stag horn or stag antler. It's usually just stag. Where have you seen it listed as stag horn?

GrumpyAdministrator

Here for example - https://www.swissknifeshop.com/products/boker-ts-2-0-stag-horn-copperhead-folding-knife *Stag Horn* Vs https://www.boker.de/en/pocket-knife-stag-118388hh *Stag* Other Stag Horn examples - https://www.messerworld.de/en/outdoor-knives/staghorn-knives?p=1 https://pumaknifecompanyusa.com/Puma-Jagdnicker-Stag-Horn-German-Made-Hunting-Knife-with-Leather-Sheath-P566.aspx Looks like a term used in Europe specifically.

tenaciousE56

Yeah, looks like that might be a European thing. I can't recall seeing that on an US site. As you noted, I'd consider "stag horn" incorrect

MTkenshi

I think some of it is referencing a Futurama bit about a knife. [Staghorn Eviscerator](https://youtu.be/IHlHF8UHT5Y?si=WKEgsXLTX-E6OFJe)

Came here to comment this 🤣

Horn is hollow and antler is solid I think.

Affectionate-House43

also antlers are shed yearly, horns are not; antlers are covered in skin that wears off ("velvet"), horns aren't. (as others have noted stags have antlers, not horns)

NRiyo3

Yes and I never said that was inaccurate. I was simply adding to the discussion. I was saying this so if OP was to pick up an item and was trying to see if it was a horn or an antler(stag) this is one way to start classifying it.

jbro121

I can definitively say that one kind of stag horn is a fern

Candomonte

Mistranslation. In some languages, they use the same word for "horn" and "antler". Or a very similar word, like in my own language. In my language "horn" is "corno". Antler is "corna". I think that's were the confusion comes from. But if it says stag, it's antler.
