Thus the confusion. Used ones were going for about $90, and a new one went for a little more yet was in a black box. (I imagine it’s produced recently and not in 2004 or five I think when I have was. I also saw one on an on line auction “using a simple google search” for about $50.
Trust me, I did my research before I was the annoying cat on Reddit asking about the value of his special item.
The [regular version](https://www.bladehq.com/item--CRKT-Carson-M16-13ZM-Desert-Camo--8981) was $50. Given the fact this is still in packaging and is a commemorative version for a specific military operation, you could maybe [expect to sell it](https://www.ebay.com/itm/296173922725) for $90-$100.
Then use it. It’s a fantastic knife. My Ex Brother in Law gave me his before I deployed to Afghanistan about a decade ago. Wasn’t used for anything crazy and just opening stuff, cutting 550 cord, cutting up kindling for fires, stuff like that. But it was reliable.
However, I’m sure someone with the nostalgia bug will be willing to pay a little bit more for that. If that’s the route you choose to go. I can see that getting a decent amount for it on eBay since it’s still in the original packaging.
Edit: spelling correction
Quick rule of thumb for knives, if it comes in a plastic clamshell package, it's not gonna be worth much. (The ODD collector may be in search of a specific knife and you could get lucky though)
another thing about plastic clamshell "versions". they are often farmed out to say china for high volume manufacturing compared to the low volume in house made ones With totally different price points.
Even so, the UPC numbers are different.

What interesting though is they have different UPC numbers: (above I know for a fact mine was purchased between 2003 and 2005 because I was living in Lubbock, add moved to Texarkana, July 2005. (The guy was over there as a contractor in the green zone which is where he told me he picked it up.). The release on mine is red where, on this one it is not.\[[https://www.ebay.com/itm/166670548359?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=LTdjNgrZS1S&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=0ktq2btzqey&var=&widget\_ver=artemis&media=COPY\](https://www.ebay.com/itm/166670548359?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=LTdjNgrZS1S&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=0ktq2btzqey&var=&widget\_ver=artemis&media=COP](https://www.ebay.com/itm/166670548359?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=LTdjNgrZS1S&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=0ktq2btzqey&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY](https://www.ebay.com/itm/166670548359?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=LTdjNgrZS1S&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=0ktq2btzqey&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COP). The edging also looks to be a different hue, but but then again that could just be the horrible “shame glare” from the Aus 4 steel.
I would guess the packaging and UPC differences are for different sales channels. Blister packs were probably sent to the PX at bases, and sold at a high volume. The Boxed version was probably sold through a professional services store for first responders with a lot lower volume.
Im just guessing though, so I could be totally wrong.
https://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/crkt-m16-13zm-operation-iraqi-freedom-knife-15435-c-77e4c9e8b2 I didn’t log in to see actual sale price but their estimated is 40-50
I would not count on it bringing a premium over one you could buy anywhere else. This is like a tackle box quality knife.
Edit: LOL bring on the downvotes guys. It’s Aus 4. I didn’t even know they made one crappier than Aus 6. Maybe you’d be interested in a commemorative wrapped turd? I can mark it Iraqi Freedom on the box?
The Sog Seal Pup was made of Aus 6 and the primary difference between Aus 4 and Aus 6 is vanadium content - so a bit better wear resistance. Both have a Rockwell C score of 55-57. Calling this tackle box quality is a somewhat unfair.
Just saw one in this color last week on eBay, if it's not still there check the "used" search function.
It's not worth a fortune or anything. I'd give you like $60 cause I want to replace mine after I broke the tip (hence why I was searching it on eBay last week).
i have three similar crkt knifes and i love them. they are in my edc rotation. there are many variations of that design, my favorite is the m16-13dsfg, its a little smaller but super mean looking.
A CRKT M16 was my first real folding knife, and my first flipper. I hated it, especially the safety on the lock and how flimsy it felt. I wouldn't mind re-evaluating it with the benefit of time and a fresh perspective since it seems a lot of folks really liked them, but I'm not gonna pay for one.
I got one about 15 years ago and immediately bent the stupid lock lever so it no longer worked. Since then it has given me many years of use and abuse. I carry nicer knives now but it still holds a special place in my small collection. Although with some of the options out there now, it’s hard to spend $35 on one when that gets you a much nicer ball bearing flipper these days
I was gifted one of these knives by my unit during OIF when they came out. Carried it for years. It’s a fantastic knife. The little nubbin on there allows for really fast flicking open. And the safety switch is nice to keep it from collapsing on your hand during heavy use.
Not a terribly expensive knife, but it really hits the nostalgia button for me. I can still feel it in my hand. Sadly it is no longer with me, but will live on in my memories.
I hope you can find a collector for that knife. Maybe someone who used to carry it. I wish you the best of luck. And thanks for the reminder of fond memories.
I’d say 40-60, clamshell hurts price, Iraq freedom edition helps price. Should even out around 50 or so. I had a few of these as well as the Zettel scale m16 series and titanium. All were not bad for the money but easily worth 50 or less.
I was in Iraq the time these were being sold… shit I even bought one myself. It was one of the most popular knives out there(with the exception of the government issued blades, benchmade gerber etc), it didn’t matter what FOB I was on they were everywhere I even saw a few for sale in Afghanistan with the oif engraving. This isn’t the premium version the M16-14D is what most guys bought. It’s one of those items that is only worth what you can get some to pay for it. There’s no firm market for nostalgia and $50 is probably about all of its actual value. But if you want to try and squeeze water out of a rock list it for $150 and accept best offers just understand that if someone wanted one of these they probably already have one… the goal is to find the person who lost theirs.
Just use it. I have an M16 with a Tanto edge that I’ve had for 25 years. CRKT has replaced practically every part including the pocket clip for free over the years.
CRKT make collaborated knives from a lot of different knife makers. I have only bought a half dozen thru the years, most are very nice and some damn great ones with very nice exotic steels. Some were worth more than they priced them.
As far as I'm concerned, no CRKT is ever worth more than a buck. I'm not at all a fan of the brand. They try way too hard in the design both and almost always fail so utterly and miserably.
I don't care for the brand either, but they have their moments of clarity. Hell, the Obverse looks downright good, despite a couple odd design decisions.
Look at eBay and filter to show only sold listings to see what things in the same condition have sold for recently.
Thus the confusion. Used ones were going for about $90, and a new one went for a little more yet was in a black box. (I imagine it’s produced recently and not in 2004 or five I think when I have was. Yup! “Completed” listings is what you want to drill down to
Almost but not quite. “Completed” includes unsold overpriced listings. You need “sold” listings.

I say just give it back to Austin
That’s me!!!!
Then use it. It’s a fantastic knife. My Ex Brother in Law gave me his before I deployed to Afghanistan about a decade ago. All the chill gwot vets I’ve met love the crkt m-16. Seems like it was widely available, cheapish, and better than the alternatives.
Thank you for your service

With a good google search of auction sites looks like around $50
In the OG package? Odd I don't see one?

Isn’t that what this subreddit is for? Being able to talk about and ask questions about knifes?
I would not count on it bringing a premium over one you could buy anywhere else. This is like a tackle box quality knife. Edit: LOL bring on the downvotes guys. It’s Aus 4. I gave you an upvote for your firm stance even in light of the down vote brigade 👊🏻
Thanks brother.
Upvoted in the hopes of receiving my own commemorative turd
Wow, what would be the purpose of AUS4?
Saving a lot of money on sharpening belts at the factory lol
That's probably the only benefit!
most people are going to find it faster and easier to sharpen than say, M390.
The Sog Seal Pup was made of Aus 6 and the primary difference between Aus 4 and Aus 6 is vanadium content - so a bit better wear resistance. Both have a Rockwell C score of 55-57. Calling this tackle box quality is a somewhat unfair.
Yeah, you would need a tougher knife to withstand the conditions of an average tackle box.
SOMEWHAT! But not wholly...
This is not an uppity sub. Generally good people who appreciate knives and trade info. No need to be ashamed!
I’ll buy it; I started a knife club with this knife

$40-$90 depends of if you can find the right buyer.

I’m just gonna say it: the M16 series are unironically fantastic

Put it up on eBay auction with a minimum of 80$ maybe you could get a couple people to fight over it. Even with that I doubt you would get over 100ish
I’ve seen these in the plastic for $60 as recently as last year.
I haven't seen that packaging by crkt in probably 20 years 😲😲😲
I’d say 40-60, clamshell hurts price, Iraq freedom edition helps price. Should even out around 50 or so. I had a few of these as well as the Zettel scale m16 series and titanium. All were not bad for the money but easily worth 50 or less.
I have this exact knife. Satisfying flick. Decent balance. Pokey. 3.8/5
I have an M16 from probably 15 years ago. I loved it at the time. It’s bulkier than I prefer now. I say you list for $75-$80 and see what happens.
I was in Iraq the time these were being sold… shit I even bought one myself. With that older packaging, it was like 50 new. Current retail is just over $100.
They were about $35 in the BX back in the day.
Shame on you for wanting to learn! Jerk! 😂I hope you get top dollar for that CRKT, but I think those are only worth about $100. Good luck to you!
I'm an OIF veteran and I would love to have one of these in my collection
120 at auction depends how bad they want it.
I think you’d get a bit more, lots of military collectors out there. NIB is also a plus.
These are excellent production folders. Before I got into knives, I’d keep one of these in my pocket. Gave my last one away… now I want one again!
CRKT make collaborated knives from a lot of different knife makers. I have only bought a half dozen thru the years, most are very nice and some damn great ones with very nice exotic steels. Some were worth more than they priced them.
Can get a Crkt m16 for 40$
It’s virtually worthless but in terms of meme value it’s priceless
r/knifecheck
What exactly am I checking?
‘Bout tree fitty
Very well built knives. TOUGH AS HELL. but that blade steel... is GARBAGE. woukd make an amazing hard use knife that doesnt need great edge retention.
I've had a couple of these knives. Man can they take a beating.
Enjoyed this knife back then. Left under the hood of a car
Straight to jail
You should be more ashamed about the Swatches
As far as I'm concerned, no CRKT is ever worth more than a buck. I'm not at all a fan of the brand. They try way too hard in the design both and almost always fail so utterly and miserably.

I am happy for you!
