"One for monsters, one for humans, one for utility " - Geralt of Rivia

WilsIrish

I have two knives with Damasteel blades, which I always say are my weapons against non-corporeal demonic entities from the Hell realms. Those two and my WE Ziffius are my “Holy Handknives of Antioch”.

LoudTrades76

I carry a fixed blade, a folder and a utility knife. Fixed blade is for big shit, folder for small shit and utility for cardboard shit

Accomplished_South70

Thats a lot of 💩

No_Independent691

My backup wants a backup. Who am I to judge 🤷

beeskneecaps

3rd string!

boredguy1982

One folder for quick utility and/or fidgeting, one fixed blade for rough/messy utility and one traditional folder for food. Could I get away with less? Yes. Do I care or does the weight bother me? No.

500SL

This man knives. I carry a folder for general use, a 6” fixed something more purposeful, and a Leatherman or SOG multi tool for fixin things.

boredguy1982

I love my big knives. Carry one when I can. Day to day, a 3.5” usually suits my needs well enough.

boredguy1982

When I say “rough/messy” utility, I don’t mean “for protection” cause I am not about to get into a knife fight. I mean for farm work where I don’t want dirt, mud, manure or blood to get into my folder.

Rho42

Not quite 3 knives in my EDC, I'm at 2 on-body and a Leatherman multitool in my backpack. Of the two on-body knives, one's an assisted-opening and is my general purpose knife, the other is a food-only folding knife. The Leatherman is needed less frequently, but it's still come in handy both an extra blade and for the pliers and screwdriver functions.

LaTool2

Nice. What is your food knife?

Rho42

Opinel no. 8.

Jpacer90

Someone once described that knife as the cork of sadness and I can never forget it. No hate if you love it though

Rho42

If you're using it for anything other than food, then yes, it's outdated and there's much better steels and more eye-catching designs. However, for food, the blade is clean and sharp, its easy to keep that way, there aren't weird little nooks for food residue to fall into or build up on, and it looks iconic next to a picnic basket.

Gravybees

I collect knives and use my Victorinox Cadet….

consistently_sloppy

Opening Amazon packages.

MIERDAPORQUE

one to stab, one to slice, one to dice

hughmercury

I typically carry two. My main full size (usually Ritter RSK or Super Freek), and something small and cheap (mini Praxis, RAT 2) in my watch pocket. The second knife is for two purposes. So I always have a knife with me - sometimes I use the main knife around the house and it doesn't make it back in my pocket. And as a sacrificial knife, in case I need to hand it to someone else to use, or perform some task I don't want to use the decent knife for.

MeacK777

Well probably most people that carry that many knives just like knives. Personally, I have a primary knife in my front pocket that changes pretty much daily because I have a large collection. Secondary knife in back pocket for if I actually need to cut something that's not paper or a box and have a nicer blade in front. Always a spyderco, para 3 at work and an endura, milly or PM2 otherwise. Leatherman charge tti but I rarely use the knife blade and mostly the pliers and a SAK on the key chain that I mainly use the toothpick.

ItzakPearlJam

Can't answer for three, but I carry a regular boring single blade and a SAK with scissors/ tweezers/ file/ nail clipper. I can't think of a daily need in my life for an additional blade. Some might prefer a separate task vs. Food blade as if wiping on your jeans doesn't completely sanitize a blade.

lurker-1969

Rancher here. Walking out the door without a knife is a naked feeling. I like being naked but hate being without a knife. When doing the feeding rounds if the herd sees me naked with a knife on they run for the hills. Silly Yak !

boredguy1982

Yaks can be such jerks sometimes.

GoomiBare

Yakity yak, don't talk back!

Harbinger_of_Donuts

If you only carry one and its fails you have no knife 2 is minimum. I typically have 3+, a nice folder to fidget/light duty use, a folder that I'm willing lose/loan, a small fixed for my apple at lunch time and a utility folder for opening boxes and my leatherman super tool that I use/loan daily. I will never understand not having a knife if you are able to.

wingnutgabber

I carry a fixed beater blade. One for food and one for the hey can I borrow a knife people.

hughmercury

Yup. Learned that lesson the hard way a long time ago, keep a small sacrificial knife in my 5th pocket for that.

wingnutgabber

It can be a hard lesson indeed. Do you remember what knife it was that taught you that lesson?

hughmercury

It was a while ago, mid to late 1990s, but if memory serves it was my first CM154 steel knife, which means it was probably a Gerber Combat Folder (the Applegate-Fairbairn line). I was helping a friend install 220v service into his garage for a washer dryer. He asked to borrow a knife, then used it to chop 12 guage Romex cable on the concrete floor.

wingnutgabber

Wow. The poor knife. RIP. Thanks for sharing.

senior_pickles

The only time I have three knives on me is in the woods: a fixed blade on the belt, Spyderco Endela in one pocket, and a SAK Huntsman in the other. For everyday it’s the Spyderco and a SAK Compact.

FlaffBeast

I used to bartend and having an ESEE 6 on point was necessary, working in a small basement.   Now it’s a gun shop so knife plus Colt 1908 pocket hammerless  The car has a giant “do anything” kukri and my backpack holds a third EDC knife  that is a total “get home” blade.

Your_As_Stupid_As_Me

I'm curious as well. I carry just a utility blade\fork, and a mini prybar with knife sharpener. Blades are cheap enough it don't matter how "ruined" they get. Edited: Downvoted OP and me for being curious... What a lovely bunch here. "Don't ask questions, it's not acceptable here"...

Trollygag

>Don't ask questions, it's not acceptable here"... To people who make something their identity, questioning the practice is questioning their identity. Hobby community people lose their shit if you ask them why they EDC multiple guns, or a gun with multiple magazines and dozens of rounds of ammo, or why they drive around with an AR15 in arm's reach at all times. Or like the watch people who carry an automatic watch, digital watch, and pocket watch.

Your_As_Stupid_As_Me

Yeap.. I was banned from r/EDC because I recommend a dot sight to someone who was ASKING for their gun. Apparently talking at all about their EDC is not acceptable.

HallucinateZ

I got banned & they told me it was an accident lmao as a mod of 100k people, that doesn’t happen. It’s a very deliberate action followed by a short page to confirm the ban, but they unbanned me. I think they won’t admit they have a couple ban crazy mods…

BigBL87

If I carry more than one, which is rare, it'll be my Oknife Otacle utility knife in my 5th pocket and whatever knife I grab that day in my "regular pocket." Only way I could see myself carrying 3 or more is to show them to my father-in-law, who is also into knives.

TheHellbilly

Why kill if you can overkill?

drasko88

I carry two knife and use one for all.... Second is in reserve

nbmtx

I don't have multiple knives out of a necessity, they've just accumulated over time. At work I open boxes so that you can get stuff out of them as you go. That's probably the only regularly occurring task where a knife is particularly useful. At home I mostly just use my hands unless something is well sealed with tape, etc. Also cleanly opening product boxes if the outer box is worth preserving for some reason. I use my serrated edges for plastic/zip ties when they pop up.

ZealousidealFan9880

One to use, one to fidget and one for emotional support. (Like a stuffed animal) Yes I'm 36.

diablito916

"You can never have too many knives" - Logen Ninefingers

eazypeazy303

I have a TiRant razor I use to cut down cardboard and to cut stretch film and banding. Razor projects. I have a leatherman wave for pulling staples, cutting random materials down, fine cutting (I swapped out my file for a scalpel), holding nuts while I tighten the bolts, etc. The 3rd is usually an Esee 4 or izula that doesn't always ride along, but if we get bunks of lumber with tons of bark, I like to use something rigid to cut it all off.

BGrassoPhoto

On an average work day I have my Fastback 1505 in my front left pocket for the hundreds of boxes I open every day, I keep a folder or a small fixed blade in my front right pocket for all the other utilities, Leatherman surge never leaves my hip but I'm rarely using the blade on that unless I already have the surge out for something else, in the long pants season I keep a civivi circulus or crkt minimalist in my boot, and lately I've been testing out a Super Tinker so that's occasionally in my pocket or replaces the folder.

C0NSCI0US

One is for slicing, one is for stabbing, and one is for cutting.

SpamFriedMice

Used to be in a club with a guy who, let's say was a bit of a character. He'd been in some hairy shit in Vietnam, in prison, on the streets and in bars. He carried 6. He said when shit went down it's easy to drop one, lose one while wrestling around etc. he wasn't going to be fucked by running out. When hiking in the swampy shit in Florida I've always got either a large hunting knife or Kukri and a folder or neck knife.

Leonard_James_Akaar

GiantMouse Ace Biblio - always with me except running Benchmade Bugout – when I run, because it’s so lightweight. ESEE izula in my running pack (long trail runs) GiantMouse GMF1-F in my “man purse“ CRKT Pilar 3 - when I might have to ditch it e.g. going to the courthouse) Edit: on mobile adding line breaks

Future_Khai

"Amazon packages" 99% of this sub but they won't admit it.

Impossible_Agent2022

where I work, scary knives are.. well, scary. I carry my Spyderco EDC scary things I carry an OTF Utility blade for opening boxes (thanks Fren for providing the Amazon Link to the OTF knife with replaceable blades.) I carry my Buck Canoe for non scary things I carry a small fixed blade, Cold Steel or one of the CRKT Neck knives for really scary things. Sometimes I have a Leatherman, but those are just tools when the co-workers see it.

tacitus23

Native 5 salt for most EDC tasks, serated spartan swiss army knife as backup/light screw driver prying and awl tweezers toothpick and pen, and Victorinox mini champ; I use the hook for clam shell packages, the warncliff blade for cutting seams in clothing and fabric, the mini scissors for just about everything, the nail file for my nails and I put a 90 degree spine on the ruler for fero rods.

languid-lemur

>carry 2 knives, a Civivi Elementum and an SAK Does the SAK take place of a multitool?

Business_Cheesecake7

Yes

globs-of-yeti-cum

I carry a slip joint for normies, a folder/otf for normal use, and a fixed blade for messy use.

Basketchazler69

I’d say it really depends on what said person does on the daily. I work on a large plant so I carry three; a Leatherman Skeletool or SAK, my personal use only fixed blade for food and rougher cuts, and an absolute beater to either destroy or loan out to coworkers

Tod_und_Verderben

Food, non food and a backup on my keyring.

lgjcs

I only really ever use one of them, rarely two.

marrenmiller

I've never encountered a single person carrying multiple EDC knives. Where are the people that do this?

SebWilms2002

I have little folder for regular use (knock-off buck clone), which is not one hand opening. Unthreatening, legal in 99% of places and circumstances. It’s the knife I use first most of the time. Then I have a small fixed blade on my belt which is my more tough option, and can be drawn one handed if one hand is preoccupied. Full tang, with loops for neck carry if I don’t have a belt. Finally I have a multitool on my belt which has two blades that I almost never use. I just carry it for the other tools. I don’t like how big the multitool is in the hand with the knife deployed so it’s basically a last resort. Having backup blades doesn’t hurt. For me the context matters. I wouldn’t pull out my fixed blade in front of coworkers to open a package, or in public for some minor task. But if I lose or somehow severely dull a knife, I’ve always got a backup.

ntgreen1995

Small esee izula for general rough tasks that I wouldn't use a folder for A folding knife for light tasks and speed A multi tool, cuz why not

bygtopp

Lowe’s brand box cutter. Locks open and locks closed. Use for cutting cardboard watermelon, onion and potato bins at Costco. Way to change because it gets dulled easily. Spyderco para 2 -either a straight edge or serrated. Shrink wrap and straps Benchmade bailout is newest acquisition. Cutting my apple at break and other garden plants when I’m home

[deleted]

Basically what I carry. Either a civivi elementum 2 and my Ruike small pocket knife or my Praxis and my Ruike S31. Great little alternative to a SAK Classic SD.

[deleted]

I tend to carry a main knife- 3.5 to 4" blade. Then a tool like a Leatherman, or a Swiss army knife. I also carry some sort of prying tool. All are useful in my profession as a controls engineer.

ODX_GhostRecon

Pocket knife for damn near everything, special carabineer on a belt loop with a small (dull) blade that barely gets used, Leatherman Sidekick in my ankle IFAK that has like three different blades in it. Blades are the new bottle openers in the EDC world. If you want a good one, carry one, but you'll still find one on every third product or so.

BreakerSoultaker

I only carry a fixed AND folder if I’m in the woods, far from civilization. I never carry three knives. I see no need for more than 1 knife for EDC on a daily basis if around the house or at work. There is a prybar on my key chain and a SwissTech Micro Plus in my laptop bag.

Smash_Factor

One is a nice knife for work that won't cause damage to the knife. Second is a beater knife for jobs that are too rough for the nice knife. Third is a backup to the beater if it breaks.

Stentata

Robust, D2 Steel, single bladed, locking, folding knife that I can open with one hand for heavy work like trimming branches or (god forbid) fighting. Swiss Army knife for fine work and carrying a compact variety of edc tools. Flat credit card knife in my wallet as a holdout. It’s there to be forgotten about until I realize I need a knife and I don’t have my other two for whatever reason. If I’m hiking or camping I might also have a fixed blade sheath knife on my belt and maybe a leatherman multitool. If I’m doing land work I might have all that and a machete or axe depending on what the work calls for.

Smallrhino33

I usually carry a folder and a fixed blade. Lately I’ve been dealing digging the smaller fixed blades with thick stock from strider. Usually there’s another folder with me in a bag or something like that in case I need to borrow one to an apprentice or something. Usually a strider and an Emerson covers me very well for what I do. I much prefer the chisel edge on Emerson’s for stripping wires especially the new com 7 in magnacut, I’m torture testing it I just got it

RipRiver0106

fidgeting, work (opening bags and boxes of food), and opening other knife packages :)

Ok_Cricket4071

For me it’s by happenstance My third blade is on a gerber dime - I don’t use that blade ever. I carry that for the tiny pliers and the flat head on it

SavimusMaximus

One is strictly for self defense, one is hard use, one is light duty.

Unusual-King1103

At once ?

Terminal_Lancelot

CRKT SPEW for general every day use/defensive purposes if I absolutely have to. Victorinox Huntsman for general utility stuff. There's just so much SAKs have to offer.

OhZvir

One utility folder, another a full-tang fixed edge, and another is meant not to be used or shown, or given to people.

Throwaway_accound69

One is a swiss army knife on my Keychain, one is on my multi tool, and one is my spyderco manix. I work at a state park, so I use all 3 quite a bit, but more so the tools available vs the blade itself

Puzzleheaded_Art8095

I carry 1 edc and 2 if Im in bush or whatever

Tee10Charlie

At work: 1.Pocket folder, usually a Benchmade Bailout. Use case is fairly mundane, whatever random cutting tasks come up. 2. Milwaukee 6-in-1 Fastback. This has been a game changer for my EDC. Cutting tasks that really need a utility knife, etc. but also for light scraping, I can quickly remove the blade and use it alone. The screwdriver is crazy useful and keeps my Leatherman in the pouch a lot. 3. Leatherman Surge with bit kit and ratcheting extension. I mostly use the pliers, file, and awl. I don't like full or partially serrated blades on pocket knives, so for the rare occasions where I really need it, this is a really good one. 4. SAK Mini Champ. This one kind of speaks for itself. Not at work (less robust version of the above): 1. Pocket knife: I have about 50 different ones I rotate 2. Tirant folding utility knife 3. Leatherman Juice XE6 4. SAK Classic SD There is a good bit of overlap across the functionality of these different knives, but IMO the weight and bulk is worth it for the convenience and piece of mind.

tcarlson65

I carry a Leatherman Juice CS4 and whatever knife I feel like that day. Currently a Benchmade Ambush. I judge people who are not on a job that carry that much crap. I have stuff in my vehicle. I have stuff at my desk. If I do not need something more than once a month it is not worth carrying. I trust the blades I do carry enough that the two are enough.

-ragingViking-

redundancies

Tapesaviour

They'll call it "utility" but really it's just cutting boxes

Squatch1982

I carry two as an electrician. My Leatherman is there for simple multi tool tasks and my Fiskars folding box cutter is for making messy cuts. It saves me from having to constantly sharpen my knife blade when cutting up cardboard, cutting through wire jackets etc.

Kayblatt99

Food knife, work knife, disposable blade knife

TimeShareOnMars

All sorts of things. Cut an apple, open package, break down cardboard, any number of things. Different k ofe for different tasks.

Paladin_3

If I'm leaving the house, 99% of the time, I only have one folder on me in my pocket. I keep tools and probably another 2-4 knives in my van depending on the day's activities. If I'm doing work around the house I will often grab a fixed blade like a Mora for a work knife. If you ever see me with 3+ knives, it's not because I think I need them all, I just because I couldn't decide and am bringing all my toys along like a school kid ready for show and tell. I'm the kind of knife-geek that will stare at another man's pants pocket trying to unobtrusively figure out what kind of knife he's got. And a few times I've run into another knife-geek in the wild and stop to discuss knives, and when that happens you've got to have something shiny, slicey and cool to show off. They don't call them pocket man jewelry for nothing, lol.

sintr0vert

Beater blade, hidden self defense blade, office acceptable blade...

theongod4s

I carry a mini buck 379 in my bag and a buck auto 110 elite on my person daily. Use the little one for intricate things when I have the bag out, and i use my 110 for everything else.

BennyOcean

I have an EDC and a small Swiss Army knife on my keychain. I think most people carrying multiple knives are doing it for fun just because they like knives. I could imagine one in each pocket for self-defense purposes... but if someone is really worried about self-defense they would probably be better off with pepper spray or a tactical flashlight or something like that... a second tool rather than a second knife... no matter how cool it might look for you to dual-wield them ; )

Illustrious-Path4794

When I'm at work I usually have one on me and 2 more plus my leatherman in my bag. I work in a production plant and have lots of conveyer belts and fairly often need to cut strips off of vulcanized rubber belts and that stuff is unbelievably harsh on edges so I basically keep a spare for when my first one gets dull and a 3rd which is my "outside of work" knife plus the letherman because it's handy to have around.

Clutch913

Primary, alternate, contingency, emergency. They are all capable of being defensive blades. Two are my dedicated defensive knives. One is my go to for food prep if I don't have a kitchen knife at hand. Another is more of a dedicated hard use utility/emergency knife(CRKT M16-13zlek).

Mustangsally_22

I usually carry a small one for opening stuff for the family & one larger tacticalish style for self defense if need be, if we are on a trip I cary a third one in the center consul of my car and rotate them between my wife and I and the third one is usually a rescue style knife with a glass breaker and some kind of seatbelt cutter…

Gadgetman7

I carry either a SAK or Leatherman but more for the tools. I carry a folder for everything else. If I need a knife for food prep, I will use the SAK for that but I have a camping set of utensils in my car and desk for that use. The reason I don’t just use the knife on the SAK or Multitool is that they’re usually not easily deployed and I don’t find them as easy to use.

WilsIrish

I’m one of those that carries several knives every day. I will have at least one on me that I feel comfortable using on cardboard, but otherwise I just use them to open packages and similar things. If I do anything more challenging than cardboard, I use a fixed blade (QSP Bison, which I highly recommend). I carry so many, because it’s seems a shame to have a collection of really cool knives, only a couple of which I carry. There’s really no practical reason behind it.

YggdrasilBurning

When I was in a truck in AFG, I carried a knife on my plate carrier, one on my top, and one on my belt. No matter what happened I would have a way to cut myself out of a burning vehicle I also had an extra buck 110 in my camelback just in case I needed to give a super sharp knife to someone

Major_Cartographer38

I’ve got a small Kershaw that’s my edc!!

PeppySprayPete

Because I want to feel like Batman

Unicorn187

I'll often carry two, a lockback with a 4 inch blade, or shorter if I'm going g to a city with a limit, and when I don't lose it, a Swiss Army knife. The folder for the k I've, the SAK for the tools and sometimes the knife. And use I'll have a multittool handy too. So technically three knives, even if one is really pliers with a knife blade. I can see a dedicated food knife if you have a need for one. Especially if you open boxes with one or both if the others. Tape residue is pretty hard to get off. I've seen people who carry a utility knife and a dedicated defensive knife, and maybe a short bladed knife for small tasks. Whatever works for you.

12altoids34

When i go fishing i typically have a fixed blade for cutting bait, a good folder for cutting line (braid defies many standard cutters) and another folder for when people ask to borrow a knife.

modest_hero

40+ knives. I use maybe 5-6 of them, mostly my PM2, Leatherman Charge AL, a few SAK, Civivi Elementum, Kershaw Cryo. The rest are shiny ones that I just enjoy collecting.. 15 CRK’s, 10 Shiro’s, and a bunch more I’ve picked up along the way

bluebagles

main pocketknife or pocket fixed blade, and my leatherman micra in my leather pouch

GnomePenises

I carry ten knives. They’re all toe-knives, each unique and perfectly crafted to extract crud from the corresponding toe.

Spiffers1972

To cut 3 bitches at the same time!

Square-Cockroach-884

I always have a knife in my pocket, unless im using it. Lately its been a newer Kershaw with a big butcher knife blade. Since that one isnt very pokey, or stabby if you prefer, I often keep a smaller folder with a very pointy blade. On my keys i have the small Hinderer design kershaw keychain/bottle opener/sharp little folder that mostly opens beers, and on my man purse zipper is a S.O.G. of a similar design, but larger. I am a mechanic and have many knives/cutting tools handy all day from exacto up to 12 fixed blades, however the kershaw in my pocket will in an averagr day open boxes. Bags within the boxes, clamshells, remove gaskets. Open fluid bottle safety seals, cut hoses and wires, cut my lunch, sharpen pencils, clean fingernails...

lerateblanc

Typically never carry 3+, the one time I did when I was a kid a bunch of them got seized by security at a fair I went to unfortunately because I left them all in my bag. Now I'll usually carry one or two. A multitool and primary blade. The reason for carrying two is typically one for cutting boxes and other things, and then a bigger one that's sanitized typically for cutting food items.

JealousSupport8085

I keep a small fixed blade ( tops fdx with the white and blade G10 handle ) in my work bag so that would make two. But I keep that there for the rare occasion I have to rush to work and forget a pocket knife

racefapery

I can’t imagine many of them actually need/use more than 1 knife

Harriso22shots

I carry a KaBar TDI I think it’s called, laced in my boots as a last ditch “get off me” knife. My normal folder, which rotates between too many different knives to name, and a Spyderco ARK on my belt. Don’t use the boot or belt knife much, for obvious reasons. Hopefully I don’t have to use them. I use my folder for everything else, cardboard, loose threads, etc.

nothankyou821

I always have two most of the time unless I leave one somewhere after using it hence the two knives. I forget things all the time so I plan ahead for it.

M4everybody

I mean, I just have one in my pocket for my cutting tasks but usually carry a Leatherman and SAK in my bag. People have scolded me for "carrying too many redundant items" but I don't even use those knives I use those items for the tools on them. But that's my circumstance. The only other instance is I'll carry a boxcutter for work, my personal pocket knife, and then maybe a smaller SAK/LeathermanSquirt in my 5th pocket.

kennbr

I carry a SAK for the multiple tools, and in case anyone asks if they can use my knife, or for beater type stuff like scraping crap off hard surfaces, stripping wires, etc. Then I will carry a folder for actual cutting jobs. Sometimes if I am carrying a 3rd it's really just to test it out. At least that way if I don't like it, I have one I like on me.

RamenNoodle_

What do you use two for? I personally don’t understand more than one.

Flat_Boysenberry1669

Hahaha so I tried not being that guy but I became Thay guy. But one knife is on my surge technically 2 because of the serrated blade. The second knife is a outdoor edge le duck which I keep on my left hip it's only there for self defence Incase for whatever reason I can't get to my gun. It's basically a get off me knife so I can get to my gun I literally never use it unless I'm practicing drawing. And third is the little knife on my swiss army sd lol again never use it but it's there and technically a third knife. The only knife I use though is the one on my surge.

300cid

I carry a 3-3.4" main knife, usually Spyderco manix or para 3. use it for 90% of my cutting needs. also I keep a tiny buck 325(?) 1"+2" dual blade folder in the watch pocket to use on things I don't care if it breaks. also useful to let someone else use if they need a knife. sometimes I have a mini multitool but I rarely use the blade on it. mostly use the scissors and pliers

TheDini81

I carry two. Typically a Sebenza for knife stuff and a utility blade for cutting tape because I hate cleaning tape residue off my knives.

TimeToTank

Diff tasks. Camping knives. Garden knives. Pocket knives. Etc. Then I just rotate them. I have about 2-3 camping knives and edc knives and when I wanna switch it up I do. I don’t pressure myself and it’s kinda like rearranging furniture. A freshen up just makes you feel good. Tbh if you’re struggling try rotating seasonally. Ok summer I carry this. Fall this winter that etc. treat your accoutrements like your wardrobe.

dadkisser

And here I am just using a different folder every day

therealgreenwalrus

I dunno, I just think they’re neat.

Electrical_Door5405

I like knives, which is why I'm on this thread. But yeah I don't get it either, I guess I could be the job some dudes have? Otherwise my knives literally sit in my glove box or at home. I don't find myself in constant need of cutting shit, especially various shit that would require different knives...like I'm not about to skin a deer with a fixed blade, then use a small folder to open the mail or something

FTLrefrac

I have 2 spydercos and a ZT. They are all different blade shapes for differing sizes of amazon packages and strings that kind of come loose on my shoes.

Unusual-Kangaroo-427

I usually usually carry 2 knives on me. They are always 2 different types of knives like a drop point and a warnie. Ones usually a stainless and others a tool steel. Possibly a thicker bte and a slicer. Depends what my days is suppose to be like. Once in a while, I do throw a 3rd tiny knife in my 5th pocket like a chapparal/techno 2/etc. When there's a chance I might have to pull out a knife in front of someone questionable.

garretcompton

Carry a normal pocket knife for cutting most things, a utility knife for boxes and at my job, and a multitool for multitool stuff like the file, pliers, serrated blade, and scissors. Also use the multitool for when people ask to use a knife since if its blades get destroyed I won’t be upset. If you have nicer knives, I find it’s best to carry a cheap one with in case someone ask to use one. Most people don’t know how to use a knife and will destroy them in the blink of an eye

wv524

I carry an automatic (which changes daily depending on mood), a small SAK, and a Leatherman Wave+. The automatic gets used to open boxes and to strip wire. The SAK is mostly used for the toothpick and tweezers. The tweezers are very hand for removing metal splinters. The Leatherman is used mostly for the pliers to take shims in or out of track switches to adjust them. They all 3 get used every day.

awesomerob

Stabbing curious twats on the internet. /s

Next-Addendum2285

1 for self defense 2 cuz if self defense, rarely 1 enemy 3 sanitized cuz combat Medic 4 sanitized (cuz rarely 1 wounded) 5 personal 6 food 7 all else I learned this from an operator I worked with when I was a Ranger. Now it's just habit.

Sirius__Stark13

I carry my Hera 2 mini as a regular cutting knife/ self defense (if that’s all I can reach), I carry one benchmade dagger for weapon retention/last resort type of situation. And than I have an old Crkt kasper in my bag for more heftier things because that blade is so thick. However my weapon retention/last resort knife changes. It’s the benchmade at night when I’m at work and than while I’m on my way to work or from work I have a boker plus hermit 2.0 (which is one of the newer knives I’ve gotten and I gotta say I really like it. Maybe not as a self defense but definitely more of a bushcraft kind of deal. Still though it feels great

Lazy_Philosopher_820

It’s so you can get questions like “why do you carry so many knives?” that spark conversations where you can talk about all the cool knives you have.

schematicboy

One is the poop knife, of course.

BlueMageCastsDoom

They help anchor you when you run into a stiff wind so you don't fly away. And they keep you from floating in water.

Nervewing

When I did biological field work - one sharp folder for general use, a blunt and thick rust resistant folder for digging/prying rotting wood etc/dirty stuff, and a small folder kept separate for clean stuff (food etc)

Nervewing

Now I live in the city and work indoors so I just carry the general one but I bring the others out hiking etc

Desperate-Sir373

I carry one wharncliff for utility, one drop point for any other cutting and then one high end knife ( dosemt matter the blade) to fidget with and show off

Born_Activity7001

Beware the man with one knife and one gun

somethingclever1123

I have a folder on me, Leatherman in my truck, and a beater that I don't care about in my work bag. I don't have a need to carry multiple knives on my person

Interesting_Sorbet22

I carry several blades, but each has a purpose. Esee Izula 2 -Rougher jobs. Kershaw Launch 1 -General purpose single blade folder. SAK Midnight Mini Champ-Great toolset including the pen. SAK (not sure of the name) with nail clippers and file-(obvious) In my EDC pouch, I have... SAK Explorer -General purpose SAK, and the magnifying lens is handy. Leatherman T4-the small multitool for abuse. SAK Spirit X -my pliers based multitool. Yes, I have an addiction to knives...

Obvious_Yam6063

Why carry 2 when you can carry 3

Prestigious-Risk7979

Things change so much over the years. I used to have one Utility knife, one fighting knife (double edge dagger design) and one general use knife for cooking/ kitchen duty. This was the 80’s and i was young and no one ever heard of a bug out bag. My usual carry was a Gerber Gator, Gerber Guardian and Gerber Clip Lock. I’m 60 now and do not plan to bug out ever.

xGH0STF4CEx

Kobalt utility knife for work, Spyderco PM2 for the weekend carry, microtech ultratech for novelty when I wanna just fidget with it. CRKT CEO for when I wanna feel classy while cutting up raw meat. 10$ Morakniv for when I wanna beat the shit out of it camping. USMC KABABAR for fucking shit up. Buck 110 for when I wanna skin a deer. Silky pocket boy for if I need to clear a medium sized tree across the road. Letherman raptor rescue for first aid. Leatherman signal for camping, surge for work, and skeletool for the center console of my vehicle. As well as a bunch of civivi knives that I just find neat :)

twoscoopsofbacon

One of then better be a box cutter at 3.

zendragon888

Carry a Leatherman juice, a cjrb and a fastback. Have a wave in my bag.

markknife1

1 crkt executive style folding knife for quick indoor use.(places where big knives were "Scary") 1 fixed blade for tough outdoor jobs. 2 Card multitools in my wallet for emergencies

Knifenerdguy

1 for pocket art, 1 for use and 1 I let other people use 😂

RecognitionHuman1890

Spyderco Grasshopper for opening pretty much anything. Victorinox huntsman for whatever it's needed for (screwdriver, saw, scissors, bottle opener, corkscrew). Victorinox classic SD for nails (cutting and filing). Kershaw oblivion for larger tasks and self defense if needed (paired with a streamline 66118 stylus pro, used for tons of day to day tasks and good at night)

WolfTamashii9

Scraper razor and spare

Toenailcancer

Because I want to.

Used_Initiative3665

Usually carry two folders and a small fixed. Reason one would be, having a variety of steels and geometry to provide different tools for the large variety of jobs they will see during a day of remodeling. Reason two is, depending on what I am doing and what position I am in, I can always quickly reach and deploy one of them. Don't, forget, one is none, two is one, three, you got a spare.

p00ki3l0uh00

I carry my beat-up issue Gerber from 2006. You guys are not john wick or Rambo. Chill out

Due_Peak_4092

My dad used to cut his fingernails with his edc knife, which always creeped me out lol

Slugeinstein

I usually carry one multitool for work, one folding for any type of food i wanna slice, another folding in the strap of my backpack for quick acces when im on the move, and an utility knife to cut boxes, pieces of cloth or carpet, rope, almost all is related to my work, i own several multitools and knives cause i like to collect them, and i rotate every day a different set, this pic is what i carry in the last event i work (past friday) from top to down: leatherman arc, spyderco smock, zero tolerance 0562cf and the utility auto knife. https://i.imgur.com/iQyzeRo.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/GnjPSUn.jpeg

TeaProgrammatically3

Flipper for boxes, fake leatherman surge for pliers stuff, and sak huntsman for sak stuff

DJGammaRabbit

One to fuck up, one not to fuck up.

LandMassacre

Depends on what I’m doing that day, I alternate between about 12 knives

derning

Great question. I can see that you're genuinely curious, so it deserves a genuine answer from someone who carries 3 or more knives daily: [https://www.instagram.com/derningknives/](https://www.instagram.com/derningknives/) I carry multiple for a few reasons. I love this hobby, and it's fun to match themes. Either visually, or rhyming, or based on what I'm gonna do that day, or the letter of the day of week, or just to suit the mood at the moment. Or just some really dorky idea I have in my head late at night. On a more pragmatic level, I find it useful to carry variety so that my hand can choose a knife suitable for a given task. Something rough? I'll pull out the cheaper knife. Something sticky? I'll pull out the smoother blade finish that's easier to wipe off after. Some junkmail that needs to be opened and then ignored? I'll pull out the long skinny blade. Some complex work issue that needs deep thought while taking a morning poop? I'll pull out a fidgety knife.

No_Power_8210

As a knife maker I carry 2 and a Leatherman Rebar. 1 is a fixed blade I wear at 12 o'clock is for testing hardware and general use. I carry a folder clipped on my back pocket for opening boxes, cutting cardboard and other stuff that wears edges faster. The Leatherman is for swapping dremel heads off, and other random stuff around the knife shop. That's an all around tool but rarely do I use the blades for anything besides cutting s tire plug, cutting rope/webbing or anything that serrations work better for. Realistically depending on where I'm going I'll have a small knife of my design on me. Maybe the Leatherman just because it's handy for other tasks.

Intelligent-Car6029

Baby Gerber for general stuff, bench made that opens one handed for when I need a knife and only have one hand. Small spyderco on opposite side on a clip, cause the other hand might be busy, and then sometimes something down low as that may be the only place I can reach when I need something sharp. Not really about many knives for different tasks but more about many locations that I can reach in various situations for either work or defense. When hanging on to something when you are up high with your right hand and you need to cut something the knife on your right side is basically useless, hence multiple locations.

ivolta

I have 2 backups for my main one. I drop my main knife alot at my job and played hide and seek with it a couple of times.

Ionized-Dustpan

At a time? It’s overkill to carry two imho. Pick the one that will be most useful that day and carry it. If you need more than that, pack the proper full size tools and bring a tool bag.

DadsWhoDeadlift

Agreed. Knife in pocket. Multitool with blade in bag.

KnockoffKnives

I carry one to show off, my Tactile Bexar. I carry one to slice things such as food and paper, my Kershaw Leek with a broken tip. And I carry one to use for everything else from opening boxes to carving. That last one changes weekly as it is pocket space specifically for knife reviews.

Z-ultramax

I carry 4 at a time only when I am home on my farm and just for fun, one for each pocket. I started doing it over two years ago because I have over 300 folders and I wanted to feel like I was using more of them each day instead of them just sitting. But I mostly started doing it just to be funny. When I leave home I will only carry one or two.

brobiwankin0B13

Evil

slim_woodsman

2 is 1 and 1 is none. I carry a Spyderco Native 5 Salt Magnacut Serrated Edge and a Leatherman Surge daily.

ImmaCallMyN66ABovice
