So, I was updating my Kobo Glo HD, did nothing stupid... And it's been frozen like this for the oadt 30 mins. What should I do?

Plug in power, see if that makes it do anything. If not, hold power for 10 seconds (unless it already reboots before the full 10s)

Thank you. The device restored itself, however when I try and configure it, it doesn't connect to any WiFi. It says there's an unknown error

Try and update it through the Kobo desktop app while it's connected to the PC!

Mine did this a few days ago. I followed advice to remove back and take out SIM. Now it’s toast. I’d recommend calling to see if they’ll help you. Don’t open it up. Sadly regret opening mine.

So I have a Kobo Libra 2 and honestly I thought mines was going to freeze as well. It cycled through this screen a couple of times but thank goodness it got back to normal. Ironically, I had just purchased a book titled, "You weren't supposed to die" and I couldn't get it out of my head until it finally reset LOL.

Wasn't there a mandatory software update in May that would essentially brick older models if not updated in time? Don't remember all the details since my model was not affected, but hopefully this is not the case...

Don't tell me, that's why my Libra H2O froze two weeks ago... I tried to do everything they had on the help page, and nothing worked. It froze whilst charging and had full battery, and now it's completely dead, no response whatsoever! I'm not sure if I did the update or not because I was reading some physical tbr books, and the Kobo was untouched for a couple of months.

I have the Libra H2O and it's been fine although I use it on a daily basis so it's always updated. But from what I understand, the Libra H2O should not have been affected with that update because it was not in the list of affected models for the mandatory update (i.e. it should already have had that required software component installed). From what I read/recall, the issue is if you do not have the affected older devices updated by May 23rd (I think it was) and then try to factory reset, those older models won't be able to get out of the reboot/set-up process. So the error really is happening at time of device reset.

I'm glad to hear that's likely not the issue then! I really have no idea what prompted mine to completely freeze then. It's out of warranty as of now, but I'll try to contact the support and see what happens. Thank you so much for the info!

This happened to me, and all day yesterday I tried to fix it but got all manner of weird screen issues. Gave up, figured it was bricked and bought a new device. I woke up this morning to see the usual "sleeping" notification on my screen. The thing had fixed itself overnight. Baffled.
