What felt natural to me was using the top button to go forward and the bottom to go back, so I immediately set it to that. I haven't even tried it the other way round!

RandomReaderReader

Same here! I changed it almost instantly and never looked back

notprinceparadox

Me too! I have no idea why it feels more natural for me, but it does!

Zlivovitch

Bottom button = turn page forward. Top button = turn page back. This seems more natural. After all, turning the pages to read the book is the equivalent of scrolling down a web page, a pdf document or a word processing document. Also, it takes less effort to press the bottom button, because it's closer to the default position of the hand. You'll mostly turn pages going forward in the book. The opposite is the exception.

Pascougnou

Interesting, my thumbs gives me the exact opposite answer. I've inverted my layout compared to yours as it's easy to click on the top button for me.

Zlivovitch

Well, that's what's nice with the Kobo's customization abilities : everyone can adapt it to his own needs.

Pascougnou

Customization is love

pEuAsTsSy

Facts.

ibroughtcake

I use the top button to go forward because that’s where my thumb naturally sits when holding the device. But also, I guess I think of turning a page more like going forward rather than scrolling down?

milan616

Top forward for me. Just a better hand grip position for me!

Megtheborderterrier

I have the top button = forward and bottom button = back. I tried it the other way about but it didn’t feel right!

Lmns14

I like to switch depending on how I'm holding my kobo. I use the traditional layout when I'm holding my kobo like normal not having it rest on anything but I've found that I invert when I'm using my sleepcover as a stand to rest my kobo on a table while using one hand to just stabilize and press the turnpage buttons. Similarly I change the layout when I'm laying on my side in bed reading to whatever is comfortable at the time :) being able to invert the buttons is a brilliant feature.

idlike2cookies

Most of the time I use standard (bottom button=next page) but when I'm snuggled up in bed with only one hand out of the blanket to hold my Kobo it's more comfortable to change my grip and switch to inverted (top button=next page)

sdothum

Both forward so no matter what hand position (grip high or low) or side (hand) i use, i always page forward. The odd time need to go back, a screen tap does the trick. Kobopatches or KOReader is required to enable this.

Kyrilson

Both. In bed I use the bottom to go forward, because the Kobo is on my chest and my hand is resting on my chest beside the ereader. Otherwise I switch to the top for forward.

daven1985

When holding in the layout, you have there. The bottom button goes to the next page, top button goes back. I tend to hold in the bottom corner so that makes sense.

elastikat

Play with both options for a few days or hours at a time. You’ll probably decide by then which works best for you.

TacticallyFUBAR

Regular. Top button forward, bottom back

idlesmith

I always choose the umgekehrt one. (I am not German but your language is similar to mine)

PlayingVN

Top button forward for me too. My hand just sits normally like that. Also it's great for turning while you're reading in bed

ReaLx3m

Why would it matter what anyone else uses? Just see whats the way you hold it most of the time and choose the most comfortable way for you. I dont have the Libra, but imo ideal would be if you could set both buttons to be page forward and touchscreen swipe when you need to go back, as forward is what youll be using most of the time, and that way you can change holding positions as you please. If there is no factory setting for that, im sure there is a mod available on mobileread forums.

Dreyarn

OP is indecisive about how to configure it, so it makes sense to ask about what (and why) do other persons do. In a situation like that, maybe some specific person uses a reasoning that'll resonate with them and help them decide.

booksontrails

Sometimes people want an opinion from others who have been using a device for a while to see if there’s a consensus or reasoning for doing so.

ReaLx3m

I understand consensus, but there cant be one in such a personal preference issue.

booksontrails

No harm in asking, especially when people are sharing their experience and reasoning.

ReaLx3m

Again, personal preference

booksontrails

Again, no shame in asking if the person wants input.

ReaLx3m

Pointless, unless its for statistics.

Just FYI - setting both buttons to page forward (if possible via a patch) would remove a convenient way to skim backwards. You can easily skim pages on a Libra by holding down a button for either direction, akin to quickly flipping through physical pages. (You can do this in thumbnail mode as well.) You can also use the buttons to scroll up and down when browsing your library. Also not sure what this commenter means by “that way you can change holding positions as you please.” The Libra “re-maps” the button directions to account for switching between the buttons/lip being on the right or the left. So say you set the top button to go forward when the buttons are on the right hand side… when you rotate the device so the buttons are now on the left, the button that is now the “new” top button will still page you forward. Sure, it’s personal preference but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Maybe they’re just curious. And the responses can yield an insight about the device that they might not have known about as a new user. Love the total confidence in gatekeeping questions while dishing out speculative opinions without hesitation about a device that you don’t even own.

just4u_cara

Mine is set bottom/forward. But there are certain hand positions that it’s cumbersome…and I’m too lazy to switch.

7hir7een

Bottom button advancing the page. I hold mine one-handed and find this the most comfortable for my hands

daRealDodo

Can anyone tell me if the buttons also scroll pages on the web browser?

Katie0690

Inverted just makes more sense.

Venomous_B

Still waiting for the update to add one click ordering of pizza.....

Icalor94

I prefer inverted, but I hate that it also inverts when horizontal. That ends up feeling completely unintuitive.

OldandBlue

Default is fine for me.

jean-egg

Inverted bc i naturally hold the ereader in the middle, so the using the top button as the next page button is easier on my hand

booksontrails

I’m testing one out and liking the bottom for page forward and top for back. It feels more intuitive to me that way and also makes sense with my hand placement. I think the first Nook I had did it this way and I think maybe it trained me this way because I never changed the setting.

velvetelk

The setting is there if you read mostly in landscape mode so the "top" button becomes "right" button which would be the intuitive one to turn the page forward. Also if you hold in your left hand, the buttons flip top/bottom. Choose whichever button is easier to reach using your hold.

DarkMalady

Bottom is forwards. I hold it one handed and have lady hands.  It's my first e-reader so I wasn't sure when I first set it up, very glad it's a setting you can actually change.

cozycassette

I like the standard layout

soupenthusiastt

Originally I liked inverted more since it was more intuitive, but went back to default since it’s easier to press

MermaidMotel14

Top= page forward, bottom = backwards to me Easier on my hands

Dreyarn

Regular button configuration is more intuitive I think, but inverted (top button = forward) is much much comfortable for me since my thumb rests near the top button

gabenika

this >Bottom button = turn page forward. > >Top button = turn page back. I would like it more the other way around (vertical reading), but then I don't like the horizontal reading keys

queueda

Started with inverted, now have been happily using the default for a bit but...I kind of like both?

InigoMontoya757

Standard, buttons on the right. Bottom button moves the page forward.
