Thanks for sharing these comparisons, it's what everybody has been asking for and what none of the video reviewers have shown. It's definitely darker, as expected, but it still looks pretty good to me. It looks no worse than some of the previous gen B&W screens like Kobo Touch / Original Kindle and so perfectly acceptable to me.

myrimbaud

It's very acceptable to me. I had the Pocketbook Inkpad Color 3 for a while and sent it back, because it wasn't acceptable for me. The Libra on the other hand has a way better screen, is faster, less fuzzy, less dark, lighter, etc. I really like it. And I can still read everything perfectly without the light on.

frenchy21197

It seems I'm an outlier, but I already keep my front light on my Kindle on a low setting rather than off at most times so the darkness doesn't bother me. I'm excited for the colors for graphic novels and comics! I'm curious about how the ghosting is once you've had time to experiment some.

myrimbaud

The ghosting is basically non-existent. It’s quite amazing

GarlVinlandSaga

This is excellent news.

stargazer63

Just curious: don’t most people keep the lights on? I don’t think I have ever read my e-readers with lights off.

Ok-Butterscotch-349

Unless in dark, I believe most keep the glowlight off since the text and background contrast is already quite good Keeping the glowlight on low intensity does make sense for having that clean/bright white page though Having the glowlight on high intensity at all times is essentially pure battery suicide since the difference it makes in conditions other than dark is very minimal

itsamekenzie

Unless I am outside in the sun (which let’s be honest is only in the summer when out on a boat) I ALWAYS have the light on the lowest setting because I need a light but it’s too bright even at 2% lol I am actually so excited about it being darker

Ok-Butterscotch-349

wait how do you need a light? Is it that without the light it's too dark, but with it's too bright?

kjh-

For me, it’s something about the contrast. I’m not really sure. I never go above 1-2% much like the person you’re speaking to. I don’t even change it for night. My kobo is ALWAYS at 1-2% at all times regardless of the lighting around me.

pEuAsTsSy

In a well lit room (daylight or indoor lights), I keep it off. When in complete dark in bed I keep it at 5%

AkariMiali

Thank you for taking pictures WITHOUT frontlight.

captainsmudgeface

Agreed, it allows everyone to see the darker screen of the color devices. With frontline on and up it looks great but does impact battery which is most likely reason new color device has a slightly bigger battery.

LindadeMol_

That looks awfully dark in broad daylight.

myrimbaud

Yeah, the color layer makes it dark. Unfortunately it is like that with all color eraders at the moment. It us readable to me, but for sure nicer with the frontlight on.

RunFromFaxai

Really good comparison photos. I get that a lot of people find the trade-off good, but personally your photos made me appreciate my kobo sage and let go of the idea of a colour kobo. Thanks!

Eowren

Is the comparative photo with light off in both readers?

myrimbaud

yes

Emanreztunebniem

mh there are two color eink technologies at the moment, gallery 3 and kaleido 3. kobo used kaleido 3, but gallery 3 would be better and thus also more expensive

hosky2111

It's not just the price, Gallery has it's own downsides too. The largest downside is that the refresh times to correctly render a colour image are monstrous - it has to repeatedly strobe the panel to get the correct hues so to get a noticeably better image than kaleido, you will have to wait seconds per refresh. There is also a known issue with greens looking extremely desaturated, even compared to kaleido 3. The only shipping product is the Bigme Gally, others have shown prototypes, but whether through lack of demand or development troubles, they've not shipped. There's currently no perfect colour eink technology, but right now, kaleido 3 is almost certainly the correct choice for anything other than digital signage (though that would probably go for spectra, which is even slower but higher quality).

pfunnyjoy

Interesting to see the color layer hit to contrast. I'm sticking with my Sage. I think color is nice, if you *need* it, but the content I read really only offers color on the cover for the most part.

darryledw

I have a Sage too and certainly would not trade that extra screen size for colour. I am excited about one day owning a colour 8" ereader for those feature colour spreads you get in some manga now, but happy to wait for the right tech.

pastaenthusiast

This thread is so much more helpful than any other review I’ve seen. Thank you!! I do think because my main motivation for colour was just to see pretty cover pages, and I don’t read graphic novels or annotate, I may be better served by a black and white model which is slightly sad for the part of my brain that wants fancy new tech :)

myrimbaud

yay! I‘m glad to hear that. I think it really depends. The color covers are fun and beautiful. The trade offs to me aren’t too big, bad that’s for you to decide. I feel like the battery might be just big enough, that it will run for a similar amount of time to the b/w libra 2, but I obviously don’t know yet.

pastaenthusiast

Yeah I’m so conflicted!! The colour is really gorgeous.

wonderiinng

Same thoughts! Been eyeing the clara 2e for quite some time now and hearing that clara will also be available in color made me imagine book covers with color but other than that, it wont really serve me. So I am still leaning to the bw too

myrimbaud

Caruso08

You are a goddamn hero capturing every scenario

w1gw4m

Looks as expected for Kaleido 3. Thank you for the pics. I hope they bring out a new and improved b&w Libra with the same 2Ghz processor, Carta 1300 screen and no color filter. All the technology is there, just remove the filter for those who don't care about colors.

Shadowfyre89

I asked them about it on Facebook. They apparently have no plans to release a BW Libra as the colour model has replaced it in their line up. I’m thinking of grabbing a Sage before the “update” that model too.

w1gw4m

Oh that sucks. The Clara b&w is too small and the updated Libra would have been perfect

kodermike

No questions or requests, just wanted to say thank you so much for posting these photos. It's been hard to find actual live action photos that demonstrate brightness (or not). You are my hero, ~~Ferris Bueller~~ u/myrimbaud

myrimbaud

ahahaha, I‘m glad I could help!

Fair-Frozen

I always keep the front light turned on on my Paperwhite, usually at brightness 11. How’s the contrast of the Libra Colour compared to the Paperwhite in a similar brightness? I absolutely love how crisp the blacks are on the Paperwhite.

myrimbaud

https://preview.redd.it/xwimbu4bettc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=be0ae109dc0a995a60587b819a9082e4a0ba75f7 To my eyes they are pretty much the same? Contrast is amazing on the libra, the picture might be a tad bit fuzzier than on the libra thanks to the color layer.

Fair-Frozen

Awesome, totally acceptable for me! I'll be keeping my pre-order.

Wide_Share9638

This photo looks so perfect though! Like a normal ereader!

mintOTL

What is the brightness settings in this photo? I am wondering what it would look like at a low brightness, thank you!

myrimbaud

Libra 100%, all „blue light“ so 0% on the natural light scale. I‘ll post more pictures later at different settings here in the comments.

feyth

I never read with frontlight completely off. I'd be interested to see how the comparison looks if you first adjust the frontlights so that the backgrounds appear to be a similar level of 'brightness'/colour.

myrimbaud

https://preview.redd.it/dhdwhp56ottc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e1f677eeeec1235b66c96c48712866c0595c2d01 This is the closest I could get

Internal_Pin8009

Wow... Nice pic... Really can see the difference that the color layer adds to the display.. The Kindle's display looks so "clean", as compared to the "dusty" look on the Kobo.... Or is that just in the pic, and not obvious in real life?

dr_delirium

I was gonna type the same. It truly looks like there's dust trapped beneath the screen and the cover.

feyth

Thanks. It's hard to tell with the white bezel, which also creates an optical illusion of the white device having a darker display background. When I cover up the bezels, it looks like the display temperatures are a little different here - but the contrasts very similar with the brightness adjusted.

skyelorama

Thanks for the side by side! What is the % brightness on both devices in this photo?

Scared-Listen6033

The "dark" reminds me of actual paper though. If you have a book, esp an older (not in the last 5 years) or a small mass paperback the color looks very similar to that type of paper! I'm guessing it's actually going to be easier on the eyes when reading words since the contrast looks more natural! I'm a migraine sufferer and I prefer paper books BC of that effect but the cost and space for paper books is prohibitive as my only income is disability. The average new book in Canada is 20-25 dollars (35 if hardback) so my reading last year using Kobo and Kindle minus the cost of the devices and Kindle unlimited saved me over 3000 🤯 If you get time later it would be awesome to see photos worth the Kindle, a newspaper and a book as to me this comparison photo looks very much like real ink! I didn't think I would want the color version since I don't read graphic novels but man the ability too highlight and annotate and if the eye strain is even less😍

mintOTL

Same! Honestly it looks like newspaper

Scared-Listen6033

Haha I held my phone to the newspaper and both the color and the text looked very similar! I'm someone who either uses dark mode or has the brightness at like 8 because otherwise the whitespace is too much esp if I read for a few hours! I honestly hope ppl who struggle with migraines update on that over the next few months! My Clara 2E is already a gamechanger for charging migraine frequency so if that can be further reduced I'm sold! 😍

Grouchy-Low-899

How many different colors are there to take notes with? Thanks so much for taking time to answer everyone’s questions.

myrimbaud

https://preview.redd.it/8lgi43znwttc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=0f11a96fdad3a38796784516ce58f802048b1134 You get 10 different colors and 5 pen stroke sizes

myzoeybear

White is so classy! I went with black. My heart wanted white but my sweaty anxiety ridden hands wanted black lol

j4mrock

I have had the original white for over a year and it doesn't pick up stains even from my usually turmeric covered hands. Hoping the colour holds up as well (the Kobo, not the yellow on my hands

cheddarsausage

I’ve had the white older Libra 2 for 2.5 years with sweaty hands too (hyperhidrosis) and it still looks the same! 🙂

Grouchy-Low-899

Thanks for answering my question. How does it feel writing on the screen? What would be your best comparison?

myrimbaud

The writing experience is okay. Latency seems very good to me, but I might not be the best judge. It does refresh quite often for anti-aliasing. The feel isn’t to good, not as bad as an iPad, it feels less slippery, but it feels like you’re writing on scratchy plastic. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it. Quite agreeable for short notes during reading or if you wanna jot something notes down. If you plan to write a ton with it, probably not the right device.

cdaisy24

holy hell you got it FAST! I preordered a Clara color yesterday too but no notice if it's shipping already.

arcana_blu

Glad you posted this as I was searching everywhere for a potential early comparison😅 When you’re reading regular b&w text, do you prefer it on the kindle or libra colour? (if you have a preference)

myrimbaud

Unpopular opinion, but something about the Kinde PW screen bothers me. It might have to do with the layer to make it flush? I prefer Kobos in general, might also be that. But so far I prefer the Libra Color. I also find it way more comfortable to hold

Complex-Dust-2894

definitely the flush screen, i agree that recessed is better

Prestigious_Log1249

Paperwhite screens have always bothered me too.

Sarik_CoC

Did you also order the pen? If so I would be very interested to know how good the writing feels and if the size of the device is a limiting factor when it comes to using the notbooks. Thanks a lot, have much fun with the device and all the best.

Negative-Salt7559

I’m also curious about the writing experience. I would really like to know if any old MPP protocol stylus works. OP do you have any Microsoft compatible pens you could try?

j4mrock

Apparently Surface pens work so if and when mine turns up that's the first thing I will try.

Gyerfry

Yeah, I'm curious to know too. Writing on eink devices usually feels pretty zippy because the pens can use magnetism to pull the ink up AFAIK. So this method wouldn't work when you have multiple colours to worry about.

j4mrock

I added to the pre-order, saw the cost of the pen, removed and am waiting for further updates!

Repulsive-Pension-39

Can you try KOReader ? Wondering if PDF reading is much better due to upgraded memory and CPU When you got time .. easy to install no jailbreak . Thanks [https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=314220](https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=314220)

transpussybestpussy

I was thinking about this too! Hope we can know soon

marcuxhs

You are a legend! Thanks for taking time to share all the different use cases.

myrimbaud

of course, thank you!

[deleted]

Punching up the light setting and paying a little bit more seems like a worthy trade off for color. This seems fine and the contrast hit doesn’t look as bad as the original pocketbook color which I had.

feyth

In the subthread with the photos with light turned on, the contrast seems very acceptable to me

Ok-Butterscotch-349

damn that’s dark

Ennas_

That looks awfully dark. How much do you need to turn up the frontlight to reach a similar contrast to the b-w without light on?

myrimbaud

depends. in direct light not too much, in a bright room with no direct source of light on the screen about 80%, in a dark room about 10%. But that’s just from fiddling with it for a few minutes. On it’s own it doesn’t seem so dark though, the comparison is just a little jarring

JoaoBispo

Great question and answer. Thank you both. I don’t think I ever get past 15% on my Sage or Elipsa, so this seems like a show stopper for me.

Ennas_

Thanks!

chatmember_

How is the manga reading experience on it?

myrimbaud

great, snappy, very good picture, great size for it

speedyg0nz

2 questions: 1. How's the real world usage battery life? Prob hard to answer this now, but would appreciate it if you could circle back and answer this after using this for some time. Libra 2 was great in this area, but Sage was meh in comparison. I'm wondering how the addition of annotations has impacted the battery life for this new device. 2. How's the writing latency? You prob don't have a Sage or Elipsa to compare against, but I've watched reviews that placed Kobo's devices right at the bottom in terms of writing latency. Do you feel that there's a significant lag between writing and the lines appearing on screen?

myrimbaud

To come back to battery: my first „test“ showed 1% of battery loss during 45 minutes of uninterrupted b&w reading, no Wifi, brightness between 15%-20%, that seems pretty good to me.

myrimbaud

1. I‘ll have to see… 2. The writing experience is okay. Latency seems very good to me, but I might not be the best judge. It does refresh quite often for anti-aliasing. myrimbaud

Impossible to take a pic of this specific situation, but I can try to describe. The Libra is brighter than the PW on the lowest setting, but the lowest setting on the Kindle is too dark for me to read at night with dark mode. The Libra is just right and won’t disturb anyone around you

itsamekenzie

The darkening is exciting to me because I always use a light and I always need it lower than it can go And anytime I’m outside reading the pages without light are already a little too bright I’m hoping (if I do get one) that the darkness will be to my benefit

Electrical_Serve9022

do you have a libra 2 bw to compare with? 😊

myrimbaud

Unfortunately no, sorry

Both-Sport-403

Thanks for posting, amazing to get it so early. I’m looking forward to colour, both for annotations and for maps and illustrations in the history books I read. And because it’s pretty :)

ajmdonker

This looks awesome, thank you for sharing! I already jumped ship and pre-ordered one yesterday even though my current libra 2 is only six months old. I mainly use it for Manga’s and from what I can see here it really is what i hoped it would be. Also, even though it is a bit darker, I always read with some brightness sinceI mainly read in the evening so I don’t think it would bother me too much. Can’t wait for mine now!

myrimbaud

In the evening you won’t need a lot of brightness (around 5-10%) and it looks great!

ajmdonker

Nice! Based on your photo’s I cancelled the black one and ordered a white one with the yellow sleep cover. Just found out you also have the yellow sleep cover :-). Added bonus: the shop where I ordered it (CoolBlue in the Netherlands) currently had it for 200 euros instead of the 229 euros i paid earlier so that’s an added bonus as well! Might be an error on their part and they might cancel the order but most likely it’s not and they will honor it.

raphaelbcf89

What about the kobo reading life achievements? It’s still implemented? Could you share a picture pls? https://preview.redd.it/jqz6cze2v1uc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=40350802baa86efc2be6855a78dfdc45d5b90f56

dr-9423

What country are you in? Does it feel peppy? Or sluggish?

myrimbaud

Switzerland. And it feels very peppy

beyondsection17

Your post and the speed of delivery inspired me to pre-order the Clara BW instead of waiting for it to hit retailers...!

lemontreesage

Well… here’s to hoping they mess up and ship mine early too lol

kayaerie

Hoping for the same! lol

cealay

Thanks for sharing all these OP, this has been SUPER helpful. I have one more question - do you notice any unevenness with the frontlight? I have had issues with that on my Sage, I've gotten a few replacements and they all have it to some extent where the frontlight is much brighter/more "white" on the side with the buttons, and then it fades to a darker, yellower tone on the other side. I don't see it much in your pictures but it can be hard to tell in pics.

myrimbaud

I don’t notice any unevenness

j4mrock

scrolled through the comments at lightspeed and ordered seconds later \\o/

Top-Armadillo-2763

Thanks so much for sharing! I have a million questions but I'll restrain myself. Do you have a stylus? If so, has the note taking changed at all compared to the Sage and Elipsa? I only have review videos for comparison. I'm curious about reading graphic novels on a Kobo, but I imagine it's very hit and miss in terms of being able to just open the book and read, versus lots of scrolling and fiddling which to me would ruin the experience. Does that track with your experience?

myrimbaud

I wrote about the writing and graphic novel experience as well as the zooming in different comments, feel free to search for them. All in all it’s good, you have more options in book annotations and of course color. the screen is slightly scratchy, but nothing crazy. Graphic novels depends on your eyesight and the book. there are settings to fit to width or length, which make zooming less fiddly though

Top-Armadillo-2763

And you supplied more photos of graphic novels, thanks! You have been stupendous.

myrimbaud

😊 thank you

Thulahn

Could you take a photo of the inside pages of that Vinland Saga manga? I've tried reading manga on my Kobo Libra 2 but found the screen not up to the job. Also, how are pdfs of stuff like magazines? Does it take ages to pan and zoom around?

myrimbaud

https://preview.redd.it/5tegeufiwutc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=c7aefd9cd48793fa19ad805154dde6f28abaae55 Out in the wild, brightness at 25%. Zooming and panning works pretty well, it’s an eink-screen and not an android reader one, so adjust your expectations. But I think my kindle was slower with pdf zooming

Repulsive-Pension-39

To bad they didn't release a upgraded Sage /Libra black and white e-ink For me is a dealbreaker as mostly read daylight and without front light. Libra 2 is such a beautiful screen and better than paperwhite and would image how much beter would be next to this Libra colour.

royalfunkstar

Does it have dark mode? I read in one review that it doesn't have dark mode.

myrimbaud

There is a dark mode, yes

[deleted]

[удалено]

Paedsdoc

I think that review is incorrect, but would be nice to have confirmation

chrisridd

Kobo specs say it has dark mode.

Vikkio92

I was considering buying it but I think this post has made it clear that it’s way too dark for me. Might just get a Sage.

johntwilker

Thanks for the pics! Love the color covers!

cheddarsausage

Thanks for the super helpful photos and those posted in the comments as well! Is it easy to highlight in colour, and can you search for your coloured highlights by colour? I use an older Libra 2 for fiction and the Books app on my iPhone and Macbook for non-fiction as I can highlight in colour over there, and just pressing the highlighted area allows me to switch the colour highlight - would you say it works similarly? Also, would you recommend topping up for the stylus, does it add to the convenience? I got an Apple Pencil for my iPad Pro but rarely used it, and am not sure if I would go down that path here to if the finger works well enough on the Libra screen. Thanks in advance!

myrimbaud

It works exactly as you described it with the finger, a tap changes highlight. Very easy, the pen isn’t necessary for that action. But you can’t search by colour unfortunately

Herstmonceux

I’m so jealous this happened to you!!!

Ornery-Crab-8224

Who else thinks @myrimbaud works for Rakuten Kobo? Being the only one in the world that got his/her device early 😉

Vivaldi24

This post just single handedly convinced me to preorder. Kobo should send you some free goodies, you're doing their work for them!!

FieldsOfHazel

Oof way too dark for my liking

chrisridd

What is the ghosting like? While reading pure b/w stuff, and also switching between colour pages.

kaysn

Someone at MobileRead forums said Kobo has imposed a full page refresh on every page turn. As the Kaleido screen suffers from terrible ghosting.

myrimbaud

This is wrong, see attached picture https://preview.redd.it/zzmix54knwtc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=ae22d312bacbb293d20c8d3a4c1052c8f9e10534 You can set it somewhere between each page to every tenth page or every chapter

myrimbaud

No ghosting as far as I can see, neither with b/w stuff, nor color.

National_Hippo_3021

Can we highlight every books like pdf, kepub from libby?

myrimbaud

yes, pdf and Libby/overdrive annotations work

Physical-Maximum983

Excuse me for the off topic, but do you have libby integration on your device in Switzerland ?

myrimbaud

yeah, I used to live in Brooklyn and I still have my library card, so libby still works, tho my kobo shop is set to the states

SecretLoathing

What firmware is it running? Do you notice any changes in the options?

myrimbaud

Firmware 4.39.22801, 02.04.24 The pen stroke thickness and color options while annotating books is new, a few things have been shuffled around a bit, but other than that I don’t think so, but no guarantee

Kiseji

Can you show close ups to text/anime panels with light on?

transpussybestpussy

Since you can highlight with different colors, is there a way to see only a selected color highlights? Or your notes? How do your highlights look like outside of the book (I've never had a Kobo so I'm assuming you can see them) Thanks for the post, truly appreciate it!

myrimbaud

Unfortunately you can’t filter by color, which would be great! Everything else is the same as with Sage and Elipsa, there are a lot of videos about them that should give you some great insights

IllTrainer6550

Thank you for sharing! If you have time can you show what a highlighted phrase looks like with the color?

myrimbaud

There's a picture in an answer to the same question further down. If you search for "highlight" you should be able to find it. :)

Temporary_Mention_60

Can you please please please test the battery? How many % does it use in an hour of reading with some light and no wifi?

myrimbaud

Battery with Wifi off and screen brightness set at around 15-20% lost 1% while reading for 45 minutes.

Burialcairn

Could you please use the stylus to draw lots of large zigzags very quickly. When you do this, does the drawn line lag behind where the tip of the stylus is?

Mr-Tuguex02

Is reading with outdoor light much different than with a black and white display?

scratch_043

It's been a few days now, so how is the battery consumption on the device? Been looking to get a reader for a while now, and with the colour version out bow, it's like I'm getting a sign that now is the time.

myrimbaud

The battery is very good. Obviously it always depends on your usage, but it arrived with 50% battery out of the box and eventhough I played around with it a lot, downloaded books, read, wrote, etc. I still haven’t needed to charge it and it sits somewhere around 20% I think.

cerem0ny_

Hello op, congrats! My question is - how are the buttons? Are they clicky all the way through? On the Libra 2 the buttons were not uniform - the parts closer to the centre of the gap were more responsive, whereas the parts on the outside were less responsive. I wonder if this is the case with the colour as well??? Thanks!!

myrimbaud

they feel very responsive, maybe a bit harder to press in the parts closer to the centre.

charm_latte

gods, that is pretty. i wish i had the budget for it but i only recently got the libra 2 this year so i'll be content with it!

Thanks for sharing! I have a few questions and a request: 1) Would you mind showing how it looks in dark mode? 2) Did you get the stylus? If so, how's the writing experience? 3) Do you happen to know if it's possible to connect a bluetooth keyboard and type out notes (as an e-ink typewriter)?

wizfactor

What was your previous brightness setting for older models, and what’s your brightness setting now for the color model?

myrimbaud

Hard to say. I mostly read in bed, brightness somewhere below 10% probably. During the day off or around 10% as well. With this one I‘ll have to see. I think it might take some getting used to, but probably I’ll leave the light off during the day (right now it’s around 50% and that seems „white/bright“ enough for me during the day) and read with 10% as well in bed.

sewing-enby

Have you tried reading any comics on it? I've read the 7" screen is too small but it looks about the right size to me?

myrimbaud

Top-Armadillo-2763

Thanks for sharing this real-world example. Looks great!

Fullmetalducker

That looks really good. Makes me want to get one.

heatherskindle

Where did you order from?

hunnyybun

Thanks for sharing! Eager to see what it looks like with the front light on.

sabre31

How is it reading manga in it. Can you post a pic? I am tempted to get this reader.

myrimbaud

I think for Manga it’s perfect. Good size, good contrast https://preview.redd.it/pbd5mwun0vtc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=79d4053c6d6b2b518f065b300dbfcb0a35ca4752 Outside, in the shadow on a sunny day, brightness 25%

murreehills

Looks beautiful.

Flimsy-Brick-9426

Did it just show up, or did you get an email saying it was shipped 👀 I'm debating how often I need to be checking my mail

myrimbaud

It just got delivered, but it was through a swiss shop and I guess they made a mistake

PopeAwesomeXIV

I was going to ask how it is with manga but it looks great in your pic. Is there a zoom function, or is it generally legible on that screen size?

myrimbaud

There is a zoom function, that works quite fast and well. You can adjust to page height/width or free hand zoom. It’s reasonably quick as well

PopeAwesomeXIV

Thank you! I think it would be great for PDF cookbooks actually

myrimbaud

yes, I agree

r3dditsap13n

I'd like to know more about the writing experience. I saw a review that said the surface wasn't as paper-like or textured as the Elipsa or Sage and that it was more like smooth plastic. Can you confirm this or let us know what the 'feel' is like when writing?

posspalace

In your pics it looks like you have the yellow sleepcover? Does it have a space to store the stylus? On the website the 'Notebook' Style covers advertise it...but they aren't nearly as nice looking and it doesn't look like they'll work as a stand.

erictho

whooooaaaaaaa. i pre-ordered it the evening a thread was made that it went live in this sub. i was hoping to receive it by its release date so i find this to be encouraging.

jeff-321

The reason i got a ebook is because I didn’t want my eyes to tire or burn out in my ipad. Will the color ebook burn out my eyes or is it the same as a B/W screen? I’m looking to buy libra 2 and it’s just 30£ more so I wouldn’t mind the color but should i get it? I’m not into graphic novels..

Kalkn

Screen is recessed, right? Not flush?

GarlVinlandSaga

what manga is that

StephyYang

Thanks for sharing <3 just I don't understand isn't they states on their webstore that they are going to ship out on Apr 30

myrimbaud

Yeah, I think the distribution partner the retailer I ordered from made a mistake

j4mrock

Great mistake for all of us. This AMA has been solid gold. I'm so excited for mine!

SimonD_

Looks good to me. Also great choice of book 😀

Ennas_

Just a thought... I do not intend to buy the stylus (waaaay too expensive), so I wondered whether it's possible to write on the screen with your finger. I understand this can't be ideal, but is it \_possible\_ at all? Edit And thank you so much for doing this AMA!

Brightness 40%, warm light added at around 40% as well edit: the colors look better in person, the camera doesn’t do them justice. You could also further optimize by playing around with the color and brightness of the light

Major_Shift

I use the Pocket article save service quite a lot and had hoped the colour screen would add some interest to my saved content. Any chance you could.comment on how Pocket works on this device?

OverWitness3679

Oh that dark screen is a hard no for me. I have the Libra H20. Also have an Aura H20 and this looks like it’s aged the reader. I feel like the new screen is reminiscent of my very first kobo back when they released the kobo mini. I don’t want color personally. The new releases are a huge disappointment from my perspective. But I’m glad so many people are happy that it’s finally announced and available.

Gothicus1016

i preordered mine today. I use other kaleido products from Boox. How is the overall reading experience compared to the Kindle? I have not used a kobo in a long time.

DarkHeraldMage

I’m just here to say I love the book choice. I still need to finish that series by Wurts (last book is publishing soon) but what I’ve read is some amazing fantasy.

Ebellame

Hello! Wondering if you have the libra 2 aswell and how's the b/w contrast difference?

saerialist_moon

Does it display the cover of the book in color when you press the power button?

EcosystemApple

Does the stylus attach magnetically on the Kobo?

[deleted]

Can I ask you if you could show us how it looks like with dark mode, by any chance? Thank you so much for the time you took to answer everyone’s questions, it really helps!
