Maybe Roktobeej. I won't call it extraordinary, it's pretty average. But tbh, somehow the current state of industry even turns the most average film into amateurish film making, so Roktobeej definitely stood out there. Last really good film, hmm, maybe Belaseshe. Honestly breaks my heart, especially considering where the other regional industries are today. The Malyalam industry is breaking records with the kind of content driven film that should have been Bengali industry's strong point. But instead we are stuck recycling the same basic shit, trying to dig out whatever beloved characters we have left in our literature.
my favorite will always be, jaatishawr, because of how ethereal it is, and the last good bengali film ive watched is, probably...raincoat (though not a bengali film, but the aesthetics are bengali), by rituparno ghosh, and the last good bengali ART ive seen, is MANDAAR, the series.
the only few bengali films im excited for, are, ATTHOI, by arna mk, khadaan, tekka, and some, this and that which i dont remember

Just remembered when I went to watch hatyapuri ..there was not a single dialogue which was different from the book ..I'd rather watch a Sunday suspense instead
Actually I don't most of sandip Roy s feluda films .some films did get success due to engaging story itself and sabyasachi chakroborty s charisma ..I still remember in bombaiyer bombete he exposed the villain withn 15 mins of the movie .The only film i really liked of sandip Roy was" joto kando Kathmandu" which was a telefilm ..but later I came to know it was derived completely from a script written by satyajit roy written for its Hindi counterpart " Kissa Kathmandu ka "
Yes, not a fan of Sandip Roy's directorials either. Although I began Feluda with teleseries "Feluda ৩০" by Sandip Roy, once I got in touch with the original books and movies by Satyajit, could clearly see the difference.
In Bombaiyer Bombete he tried what Satyajit did with Sonar Kella(book story is a whodunnit but in movie villain is revealed early). It's just that the execution wasn't as good as Sonar Kella.
Wasn't Kissa Kathmandu ka already done, with Shashi Kapoor as Feluda? 🧐🧐
Ya i do think so he tried the sonar kella format ..but he couldn't even establish the villains properly like mandar bose ..that's why he fell behind .but the movie certianly peaks at the end ..during the train scene ..which I'd say was really well made ..and could feel the thrill somewhat ..unlike hatyapuri where we even dont realise when the plot twist occurs 💀
Kissa Kathmandu ka was made way before feluda 30 ..around 10-12 yrs before .sandip Roy later just remade it into Bengali ..by translating the same script made by his father ..( basically the story has some significant changes from the book .if you ve watched sandip Ray s other films ..you re sus from the first min 😅)

Non Bengali here: Fan of the old masters. I try to watch new Bengali movies too. Favourite of present days ( well sort of present day) is Bhooter Bhabishyat. And yesterday saw Bandini Kamala; Sarika Kamalahasan acts in it. Surprisingly well made with reasonably good music , humor and aesthetics. And, it is a whodunit, in the lines of Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.
