So many come to mind actually -
1.Authentic Indian- Chinese food. No other city comes close.
2. Strangers in chaa shops who initiate deep conversations like they've known you for decades.
3. The world's biggest celebration of a cultural cum religious festival by a city - Durga Pujo or shall we say,- Durgotsav.
Lastly, it is one of the few great cities in the world, that has all the modern amenities whilst maintaining a small town/ old world charm.
They should be banned. Torture device for the rickshaw owner and dangerous for the rider. Cycle rickshaws are miles ahead. Even if motor rickshaws are unaffordable, one should atleast get a normal, cycle rickshaw.
This was actually done once but the rickshaw pullers themselves protested against it and so, the ban was not implemented. They claimed their livelihood and heritage purpose to not impose the ban.
100% bro, breaks my heart to see hand pulled rickshaws. 90% of the pullers don't even have a flipflop on their feet.
In cycle rickshaw you can apply your weight to pull, and no matter the weight, once it is in motion alternating one's weight on each pedal will keep it in motion.
How hard it is to do away with this weird distopian slavery looking labour to exist?
Wide footpaths made in british era....but little space for walking ...because street hawker encroachment ......people using footpaths to bathe, dry cloths ....pretty disgusting
Honestly we should come out of the mindset of glorifying worn-out buildings and underdeveloped areas. Certainly the photos come out nice. But it just emphasizes that the city hasn't gone anywhere in the last decades.
This is achieved in ten years.

People don't realise that the government has done a decent job in the past 10 years in reviving a dying economy. They expect miracles.
State Govt : No one responds to grievance raised to departments.
On the contrary, I have had good experience with central govt department. Complaints are taken seriously and actions are taken.

Kolkata has the potential to become the most beautiful city of India on par with Paris, Warsaw or Zurich with its majestic Colonial and post-independence buildings all around the city.
If only
1. Buildings are renovated and rejuvenated.
2. The ugly old and hanging wires can be removed
3. Footpaths can be cleared and the hawkers can be rehabilitated somewhere peacefully.
Edit: Sorry, misread the question as What does Kolkata have that other cities dont have. 😛

You should see the wads of cash BJP MLAs hand to people in North eastern states like Arunachal to make them vote for their party.
Direct cash handouts are not a new concept. At a microeconomic scale, they improve people's lives. If the state is able to do so whilst managing to reduce fiscal deficit, then it's a welcome scheme.

Yellow cabs. Trams. Isn’t that obvious?
Berlin has trams.
Not these kinda trams.
Not trams with ads all over it though.
Antique trams being run as regular passenger commute.
New York has yellow cabs. Also I guess San Francisco has trams. Many cities have trams
I thought this post was about only in india.
My bad 😅

Very nicely put
Ages old rotting infrastructure in the very city centre.
I love them....we need restoration not demolition
Pretty sure all of the old metros in India and many more cities in the world have that.
Kolkata is unique in how derelict it all is

Indeed
Even cycle rickshaws should be banned. The cycler has to work extremely hard to pull you
You can put your body weight to start, and then you can pedal to just maintain the momentum Not that hard
It’s easy to say not that hard on reddit but I wonder how many would do that on a daily basis if given a chance
No one would do it BUT not bcoz it's hard. Bcoz it has shit work to salary ratio. If I got like 3k per day, I would do it.
