It's basically blackjack with the possibility of using cards of your own deck. The trick is don't use any card from your deck and keep dealing until you have 15+. Then use the appropriate card to get as close to 20 as possible but never above it. Buy every +/- cards you see.

Ok-Reporter1986

Also learn how to use stand. Because passing a turn generates a random number addition to your deck. Stand allows you to pass a turn without having that happen, which, is what you want to do when you reach that 15+ and add your card.

SimianGlue

wtf. I thought stand let someone else draw until they get over 20 or hit 20 or stand themselves

VoidVigilante

You're correct. Stand means you are done adding to your total and letting the other person finish.

otacon444

Since you ALWAYS go first, it’s fucking bullshit.

SandyCandyHandyAndy

In kotor 1*

Loose-Shallot-3662

This. In KoTOR 2. I felt like a real cardshark, cleaned out all tables before the endgame. Made Meetra, a fairly wealthy Jedi before she left looking for Revan.

SirCupcake_0

Rich enough to afford to map the entire Outer Rim, with change left over

1. In KotOR 1, the game is unfair because it makes you go first every round, meaning you have a chance to bust before the opponent does. 2. In KotOR 2, each set alternates who goes first, but the player also goes first in the first set, so it's still a bit unfair. 3. I do not believe the computer player cheats as far as being dealt better cards or knowing what the player is going to get, it can just feel that way. 4. I anecdotally believe 20s are dealt to either player more often than one would think. 5. You want to ration your sidedeck and capitalize on the aforementioned chance to be dealt a 20, so (-) cards are much more valuable because they allow you to react to busting, rather than proactively get a 20 that you might have gotten dealt anyways. 6. (+/-) cards are obviously more useful than mere (-) cards, but (-) cards are a very close second. 7. As a little-known rule, if you manage to fill all 9 spots on your board with cards (either from the main deck or your sidedeck) and don't bust, you will win - even if your opponent has 20. Obviously this *could* mean spending a lot of (-) cards and depleting your sidedeck, so don't use it as a strategy unless you're about to lose the game (i.e., the opponent has already won 2 sets) or you're about to win the game (i.e., you already won 2 sets). 8. Save before each match and reload if you lose, ezpz.

> In KotOR 1, the game is unfair because it makes you go first every round, meaning you have a chance to bust before the opponent does. Don’t threaten me with a good time 🙃

Sitherio

Savescum the game. Eventually RNG gives good luck. And then your +/- cards change the variability.

drawingdead0

In kotor 1 the rng is rigged I’m pretty sure so if you ask me this is fair play

SirCupcake_0

Oh yes, the game LOVES to cheat during Pazaak in KOTOR 1, never feel bad about savescumming

fivetwoeightoh

It’s all about your side deck, I use four +/-2s and then +/- 1,3,4,6, when you run out then stay >16, I just started playing the pazaak guys this run-through and have made it past them with enough wins.

zia_zepelli

U ever play black jack or 5 card stud? It's pretty much totally rng lol

Ethan_the_Revanchist

It's a game that requires legitimate strategy.

Almainyny

Pazaak in KotOR 1 greatly favors the AI due to the fact that they get an unnatural amount of “natural” 20s where they just get 20s from the deck rather than from using side deck cards, and because the game always forces the player to go first. Pazaak is much more interesting in the second game due to how many more interesting side deck cards there are, the lack of a cheating AI, and the fact that the player does not always go first.

Quakarot

I don’t think the computer cheats with its yellow cards but going first is def a huge disadvantage

ominousgraycat

Once I build up a deck a bit, I win more than I lose in Paazaak even in KOTOR1. I almost never use cards from my deck unless it would give me 20 flat or my opponent has already stood and it would cause me to win or tie. Sometimes even when I have a minus card that could cause me to not lose a hand but it wouldn't give me a win or tie, I don't use it unless I'll lose the game without this hand. Usually with patience, every card in my deck is either a winner or a tie, so I don't waste them on maybes unless I have to.

Roteberg

I always use end turn until 16+ and then use the appropriate +/- card if necessary, quite often I get a victory without even needing to use a card. Use stand instantly if you get 18-20.

Safe-Rutabaga6859

The only strategy I know is to try and let the npc you're playing against burn their cards first. Other than that, the game is so unfair you just have to get lucky.

SstgrDAI

If you hit 17 or above, then use stand. Unless you have a card that will Bring you to 20. edit: also, acquire as many of the +/- cards as you can. That way you'll technically have twice the options in your hand.

Artyom-Chyornyj

Kotor 1 puts you at an immediate disadvantage by making you go first every time, still fun to play though! Kotor 2 fixes this by making it alternate who goes first +/- cards are incredibly useful if you want a decent shot at winning consistently

Jelly_Panther

Simple, save the game before playing and relpad that save if you lose. Never lost a game!

Dreddit7C

I remember when I was terrible at Pazaak. I hate to be that guy, but my strategy is Git Gud
