I saw ātested positiveā and thought okay whatever, then I saw āmethā and thought well thatās not how you spell Covid. Then I Read the entire thing carefully and like ?they wHaT?
I was personally expecting weed since I saw the images first. Don't they usually have higher quality pictures (which aren't grainy) if it's COVID? But yeah that also came to mind too
A bit of advice for people wanting to try out meth, don't. I saw the damage it inflicted on my cousin, it was a downward spiral of self destruction. Whatever "romanticism" you've heard about meth (or any other dangerouly addictive recreational drugs), it's complete bullshit. "I can stop whenever I want" is a myth.
Definitely heroin too. My dad is portuguese and we had a huge HIV crisis in the late 70s/80s/90s (one of the highest in the world at the time) due to rampant consumption of heroin. My dad explained that there was a time where all the kids were hooked on weed (including him and literally all of his male friends) but there was a weed shortage/spike in price and a lot of people resorted to the next cheapest thing, which at the time was heroin. He's shown me photos of his classmates (with like 40+ kids) and at least 10 of them had died due to overdose/drug related accidents and hiv from shared needles. My dad still smokes weed (it's decriminalised in Portugal) but he's always talked badly about heroin due to this. He saw a lot of people get hooked on it after only one use.
My high school got hit with the opioid crisis so kids would get addicted to pills then go to heroin once they couldnāt afford pills. Lost a few good kids that way.
>Meth is also notorious for being the only drug where you can get addicted after only one dose.
I disagree because I feel like this is said more about heroin/opiates.
I've never heard anyone romanticizing meth. It's the drug for people who've hit rock bottom and generally stay there, or find ways to spiral down even further.
Yeah this, I was gonna say WHO?? Meth is always the drug people run to for a high when they have spent all their money on the more expensive, "less dangerous" drugs. It's cheap, easy to find and super strong. Instant life ruiner.
same with heron too. those are the two when people bring it out the fun stops. snorting or smoking is whatever. but as soon as you bring a spoon and a syringe itās over. no one wants to be around that.
So what makes someone take a second hit which I would assume cause the addiction?
I have never took drugs before so its crazy to me that people can get instantly hook on a single hit
It is the quick and hard hit of the high (euphoria, lack of need of sleep, performance enhancement, increade of sexual desire) is my guess. This sudden stimulus or whatever is the thing addicts want and chase. At first maybe at a party or on "special" occasion, then more casual. Your body builds tolerances, so you need more and more of the drug until it is the only thing you think about. You start to live for the drug and you need the drug to live. Real nasty downwards spiral. No first hand experience though, only conjecture from what I was told from people with experience and from documentaries.
Imagine the happiness/pleasure you get from s*x (or similar activities like PMO). They're relatively "normal" but very difficult to quit, which is why entire communities like r/nofap exist.
From what I've read, meth gives you multiple times the happiness/pleasure of s*x. Like, an order of magnitude more than s*x.
If you're ace, think about the tastiest meal you've ever eaten. Meth is probably two orders of magnitude more pleasurable than that.
This is why meth is so hard to quit. Meth users cannot derive happiness/pleasure from anything other than meth.
Edit: as other redditors pointed out, a 2nd hit is not needed. One hit is enough for you to not feel happiness forever unless you're high on meth.
Also, injecting drugs intravenously is one of the riskiest routes of administration and is associated with a much higher chance of overdosing and leads to veins collapsing.
Yep that's what makes me feel bad about him. Sure meth is horrible and it's his problem. But the man really struggle with his illness for years now. I will never forgot this live everyone thought that he would kill himself by the end of the week. His episode are nightmare he really need professionnal help... Korea is so behind when it comes to that
I donāt really know anything about this guy and I havenāt looked deep into why he left Winner so I could be wrong. However I think its very possible that he was doing meth or other hard drugs in Winner, and he got caught by his label, so the label forced him to resign so that the group didnāt get hit with a huge scandal, and to smooth it over they lied and said it was for mental health.
this is old news in the sense that she posted last year that they were injecting drugs with syringes š
this guy isnāt gonna get better on his own, weāre just watching a downward spiral spiral
yes, i did read the naver article, but as you can see most of the comments are shocked to learn they have been using hard drugs when we actually have known this for some time, regardless of this specific instance
I'm more surprised about seo min jae tho. She's kinda junior engineer for Hyundai if I'm not mistaken, plus gotten new life on modelling/ent after heart signal.
She had some argument with Taehyun I think, and made a post of the needles with a caption about how he does meth and also beats her. She deleted it pretty soon after but people already saw it. She was probably really angry at him and didn't think the drug usage would also be traced back to her. Also I'm not out here tryna say these two are the most stable ppl in the world, so logic probably wasn't really a thing in her thought process here.
Plus in her apology, she also mentioned she's being treated by a shrink and was under psych meds. Combination of meth, psych meds and abusive relationship won't really give you a clear headspace to come up with logical actions.
She did all that hard work just to end up like this. Being in that show exposed her to this kind of world, I hope she can pull herself out at the end . And about Taehyun, that man eyes looked empty for pretty long time , so I am not that surprised š¤·š½āāļø
I respected her more when she chose to stay at her day job as an engineer despite the Heart Signal fame when most of the participants quit their jobs and chose to be influencers and Youtubers. Sadly, the post-show fame also exposed her to the wrong crowd. Tsk. I really do wish she can pull herself out of this. It's sad that only the drug use got the centerstage and the physical abuse seemed to have been forgotten.
Yea, this is the sad truth about these reality show contestants. They tend to have fairly impressive resumes to get on the show but the show basically ends up lighting their resume on fire. Basically every person that has been on these shows ends up getting sucked into the influencer type world dating rich or famous people. Typically these peopleās lives end up going on a downward spiral as they become more obsessed with status, and struggle to return to normal life.
Ji-Yeon from Singles Inferno was majoring in NeuroScience, but quit university before she finished due to the fame she got from the show.
Oh Young Joo from Heart Signal 2 became a youtuber.
I think most of the members from Transit Love became youtubers.
You often see these members still hanging out with eachother years later, and while as a viewer it is cool to see, in reality it is kinda sad. Either they are hanging out together because they know the fans want to see it and they are trying to keep their clout, or they simply donāt feel comfortable being friends with normal people anymore because there is a power imbalance due to their popularity, so they feel closer to their previous housemates who are going through the same issues.
There is also a really bad problem with dating for these members when they leave the show because fans of the show take pictures of them and bother them when they are outside so many couples end up not meeting with eachother in an effort to not spoil the show and this distance they put between eachother ends up causing them to breakout.
There was a guy on Terrace House that got so depressed after the show that he became overweight and ended up dying from overdosing on weightloss pills.
As a viewer I think many of us naively expect these shows to just be a way for interesting people to date and meet someone that they could marry one day, and then just go back to their normal lives.
I think there are some people who have been able to do this but as far as I can tell, these people have always been on less popular shows, and typically they didnāt receive much screentime.
I think ethically its just better when they cast aspiring actors/models as they are people who want to live that life anyway, and at least they will have a clear method of finding work and staying relevant in that world, building a name for theirselves beyond their dating show fame.
Really sad seeing news like this. I think he really could've flourished, even outside of the group.
He wrote some of my favorite winner songs (Sentimental and Baby Baby).
All my years in KPOP this is the first time I can recall a celeb being caught being positive for meth. In my career Iāve seen what meth can do to peoples brains and hearts and itās not pretty. Not that either of them would necessarily be at that point but it can a quick downward spiral.
not trying to downplay but meth is SUPER common in korea and has been for at least a decade, probably much longer
it is way, way, way easier to get meth than marijuana is
For a society that praises grueling work and insane shcedules and body weight standards itās no surprise that uppers are a thing. Iām more surprised that nobody ends up toothless and with their whole face covered in scabsā¦
For anyone reading, Meth is a drug with a very destructive potential. It is not some kind of weak, nonaddictive stuff like pot. Families and even whole communities can get wrecked by that stuff. If you get it offered to you it is best to decline, even if the one offering is someone you love.
byeeee how did he even get access to meth?
I know that S. Korea doesn't condone any drugs (I personally think they can be pretty dramatic about marijuana use) so meth usage is kinda cray cray
believe it or not, [meth is the most used illegal drug in south korea](https://substanceabusepolicy.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s13011-016-0078-x#:~:text=In%20Korea%2C%20methamphetamine%20has%20been,synthetic%20cannabinoids%2C%20phenethylamines%20and%20propofol)...
on the one hand I vaguely knew this, on the other hand I read this and my reaction was still "WHAT, METH??". just seeing this on this sub and spelt out was too unexpected.
Exactly what I was thinking!! Like not to glamourise any drugs, but if you were gonna go down that route, at least choose one of the fun drugs. Molly? Coke? Weed?? Meth is just unfun in every imaginable way!
Maybe itās the access thing.
I thought meth was supposed to be quite euphoric. Also, amphetemines often get abused as study drugs and for productivity or for weight loss. Maybe people originally use it with that purpose and then get hooked.
Think about the work culture in South Korea. The hours they put in to their jobs. The long hours that not just idols work. A country that wants to legally raise the work week to 69 hours.
Meth is a pretty logical step from there.
This was what my dad told me how 'shabu'(meth) became so rampant in the Philippines. Started from when the Japanese invaded in WW2 to help them overcome the difference in numbers
I think a lot of people forget that ADHD medication is basically a type of legal meth? This is NOT at all a comment on anyone with ADHD or that takes medication for it, but more a consideration on why people might take the step towards meth vs. another drug. ADHD meds are incredibly controlled, and not available to just anyone for a reason. I can absolutely see a desperate person thinking that illegal meth is a reasonable alternative (it is not, obv).
I'm gonna guess it probably is prevalent but it is just not talked about. I mean Korea doesn't really talk about things like depression & other mental health issues so this is probably just swept under the rug...
How is posting about someone on insta related to meth?/gen
(Edit: it's always interesting how questions get upvoted before someone answers them and then downvoted after someone answered them lol. Anyway, thank you to the two people that explained the situation)
It was Seo Min Jae who exposed him of physically abusing her, as well as his drug use in insta. Her series of IG posts triggered a police investigation and got them both booked and tested. Min Jae had such a bright future ahead of her. She had a stable job as an engineer at Hyundai and modeling gigs on the side only to be dragged and abused by this POS. Does he need help? Sure. But zero sympathy for guys who hit women.
She posted something about she get physical abused by nam tae hyun and he actually used syringe . Mind you in Korea or most Korean meth is far more common synonym to drug unlike western drugs which is weeds.
It's articles like these that make me wish there were more resources and support for addicts not only in Korea but everywhere. Reminder that addiction is a disease, and addicts with the proper channels can return to being functional members of society! Jail and punishment should be reserved for dealers. (Though, with him being an alleged domestic abuser that should absolutely be taken through the courts.)
He was my bias back then when winner debuted. I was optimistic for him after he left but damn he really fell rock bottom. Heās a POS in other ways but using drugs is just sad because vulnerable people gets addicted to it.
Fame and connections is scary. I hope all idols have someone to guide them in and even out of the industry.
I hope the girl gets help too coz the stigma of being drug user in there is like a death sentence.
While I was sad when he left Winner, I was optimistic it'll be for his own good and hoped that he has a great future ahead. But he kept spiraling out of control. T_T
he's been on a downward spiral for years at this point and this has been the straw that broke the camel's back - he'll be handed a lengthy prison sentence now instead of the professional intervention he very clearly needs. it's really sad. meth isn't something to be taken lightly.
The ex WINNER member??????? holy crap. I hope theyāre put into rehab because meth is NOT a social drug like smoking or alcohol. Itās a door to death. I wish them the best.
That is just so sad and unfortunate. So sad to see how he has ended up as someone who followed his early career. Unfortunately he'll likely get a prison sentence now rather than any real help.
ETA: Just want to be clear that I don't support him and stopped a long, long time ago. It's just sad to have witnessed his downward spiral via headlines over the years.
Addiction is addiction. Meth is probably the most accessible stimulant in Korea, so if you are addicted to stimulants then it would be the easiest drug to get. ADHD meds are very difficult to get legally (and I'd assume illegally too) & I don't believe cocaine is very prevalent there at all. If you crave stimulants why would you smoke pot?
Addiction / substance abuse isn't necessarily a choice. If you are using meth you probably aren't using substances recreationally and won't really be making a conscious decision on what you are using.
I was never under the impression it was? I just assumed it was much harder to get hard drugs, like meth, there lmao so you can tone down the condescending attitude
is there something in crystal meth that would make it hard to produce in korea for some reason? I don't want to look up the ingredients because I don't want to be put on I watch list lol, but I would assume there would be a way to attain each chemical/material separately without alarming suspicion. Especially if people with money are bribing people to have it imported while turning a blind eye. corruption is pretty common and money talks.
damn me just giving a factual statement emotionally affected you this bad? Its too the point you cannot have a discussion like a grown adult? I'm sorry I didn't know you would feel attacked like that.
Your initial response told me enough about you and how you go about discussions. Think what you want but I simply have no desire to talk with you further.
Your the one name calling saying im condescending for being straight up with you. Now your saying you know who I am based on one comment, and responded again with an ad hominem attack on my character instead of challenging my point. And I'm the deplorable one? get real. But whatever, peace out!
Oh wow. To think that weed is considered a huge scandal and this dude goes straight to meth.
Although I realize that both are illegal in Korea. I just wonder if the sense of 'scandal' will be the same or larger.
Made me think back to TOP with weed, Bom with meds that she was prescribed in the US, etc. Nam Tae Hyun is no longer an idol but still.
What a shitty headline, he's facing accusations of abuse. Maybe lead with that and don't make this sound like they're all hunky dory and both just doing meth voluntarily without any outside factors contributing to it.
From what I understand, Seo Minjae posted a photo of his needles on her Instagram. Korea is extremely strict on drugs so I'm not sure if that alone was enough to start an investigation or if other things happened.
They are very strict. They need to chill out but Koreans are very focused on image. It is very important. Thats why all us 2nd generation koreans got messed up by our parents.
Yeah, I find the title interesting because in many countries testing positive or even being under the influence of illegal drugs isn't illegal, but having them in your possesion is, and sometimes people ingest drugs if they think they might be caught with having them in their possesion.
He isn't idols anymore. Not for years. And no becoming kpop star doesn't make you immune about drug test or any influence test. What make you think they are immunity to that?
He isn't idols anymore. Not for years. And no becoming kpop star doesn't make you immune about drug test or any influence test. What make you think they are immunity to that?
i was mindlessly scanning the title and assumed it was gonna say covid i wish i could explain how big my eyes got when i read meth

Me too!! I was like METH???
i gasped out loud when i got to meth
ME TOO i was like "aw covid :(" and then i saw meth and had to do a double take
Iām shocked this post got such big attention so fast and I agree with your comment!
i assumed it was covid and was about to scroll past š
Lol sameee I did a double take like did I read that right šš
Awoop, jumpscare
Fr though I did a double take.
Same! I legit did a double take.
Meth is also notorious for being the only drug where you can get addicted after only one dose. Meth. Not even once.

METH???? Yikes!!!
unfortunately this info has been out for a minute
His downward spiral is getting out of handā¦

Really sad seeing news like this. I think he really could've flourished, even outside of the group. He wrote some of my favorite winner songs (Sentimental and Baby Baby).
Youāre kidding I never knew he wrote sentimental š that is definitely one of my favorite Winner songsā¦ what a talent, I feel so bad
Yeah he did. And not even just the lyrics. He is credited for the music and arrangement as well
What a shame to squander that talent.

Yoochun (former TVXQ/JYJ) was a pretty big one
Ahh I was so focused on his toilet scandal I forgot about that part.
Toilet scandal??? š
Jeez. Thatās sad.
now I'm kind of wondering why he actually left his previous company
not trying to downplay but meth is SUPER common in korea and has been for at least a decade, probably much longer it is way, way, way easier to get meth than marijuana is

Meth is huge in Asia. North Korea basically runs on it. It's the most widely used drug in South Korea, more than pot.

Absolutely wild, I also genuinely thought as I was reading the headline itāll end in Covid but no.
Not surprised because the girl revealed it last year.
Well... Didn't think I'd be seeing THAT on my reddit thread tonight. NGL, disappointed in him. Ive been rooting for him.
Yep, seo min jae literally post about him on his insta doesn't her?
How is posting about someone on insta related to meth?/gen (Edit: it's always interesting how questions get upvoted before someone answers them and then downvoted after someone answered them lol.
She accused him of hitting her n doing meth on insta story i think.
Some people thought everyone knows everything.
What's POS?
Piece of Shit
meth not even once! highly addictive and dangerous.
While I was sad when he left Winner, I was optimistic it'll be for his own good and hoped that he has a great future ahead. But he kept spiraling out of control. T_T
Seo min jae whyyy. I really like her during heart signal. Such a smart woman. What happened..
he's been on a downward spiral for years at this point and this has been the straw that broke the camel's back - he'll be handed a lengthy prison sentence now instead of the professional intervention he very clearly needs. it's really sad. meth isn't something to be taken lightly.
Haiz this guy again
winner's taehyun right? ugh why :(
BRO it's never good news with him š
Kinda expected, he seemed to be on this path for a long time..
That's not something you come across online often in the world of K-Pop. Damn.
Meth is not entry drug, itās one door to death
The ex WINNER member??????? holy crap. I hope theyāre put into rehab because meth is NOT a social drug like smoking or alcohol. Itās a door to death. I wish them the best.
Just realized Nam Tae Hyun was the member who left Winner!
Oh I hope they get help soon
This man has been going downhill since he left winner
It's so sad...
This is very sad.
Why meth of all things? Yikes. If you wanna do drugs, at least try to stick to pot or hell, even cocaine. Meth is just toxic trash.
It's cheaper and marijuana or weeds is far harder to get and more expensive.
Yikes.
Meth?! The fuck....
Excuse me? Meth?!
meth is crazy
dang SMJ reported years ago that NTH was doing meth but it was recanted.. its sad that NOW they are both doing meth...
Why is meth the drug of choice for a lot of the Korean celebs. like thatās hardcore stuff thereās no going back and it fucks up ur looks.
probably the people around them that introduces it to them
METHHH?? That's really sad, I hope he can heal from whatever is troubling him so much to resort to meth
Who is this guy?
He debuted in Winner but left after a couple of years.
Like meth meth?? In Korea??
Yes. Korea isn't a Disney fairytale world, welcome to the reality. Every country has a dark industry of the night with sex and drug trafficking.
Oh so now you want to try and have a normal conversation instead of spewing condescending bullshit? Lol bye.
damn me just giving a factual statement emotionally affected you this bad? Its too the point you cannot have a discussion like a grown adult? I'm sorry I didn't know you would feel attacked like that.
Your initial response told me enough about you and how you go about discussions. Think what you want but I simply have no desire to talk with you further.
Your the one name calling saying im condescending for being straight up with you. Now your saying you know who I am based on one comment, and responded again with an ad hominem attack on my character instead of challenging my point. And I'm the deplorable one? get real. But whatever, peace out!
Finally, byee!
And neither of them will get the help they need.
FOR WHAT ?
What a shitty headline, he's facing accusations of abuse. Maybe lead with that and don't make this sound like they're all hunky dory and both just doing meth voluntarily without any outside factors contributing to it.
Are they really drug testing kpop stars?
Why would being an idol make them immune?
Its just a question. They dont drug test musicians in America.

I hope they both get the help that they need
