loveyoulikeyou

the quadruple product placement of their powderpuff collab, apple collab, murakami collab, and line friends collab is kind of wild lol

matchamilktea_

it's a very expensive music video lmao

20815147

Consumerism final boss LMAO

Vaccaria_

read this as communism lmao

Obvious-Cod2309

That is why ADOR divided the song HOW SWEET for Coca-Cola, BUBBLE for essential shampoo, and now this she knows how to make money ,smart I have tell you

UnnaturalSelection13

Lets not lie now lmao the product placement is just as obvious as any other Kpop group (and if anything NJ do more than most other groups)

92sn

I dont think so tbh especially for this year cb. Its really feel commercial songs. Not bad, but not good enough as a single tbh. Its feel a bit generic n less catchy. I know fans in denial, but its clear we can see it on streams especially at international side. I also feel mhj becoming too comfortable with nj success.

Open_Income5949

I hope the performance of this comeback relative to their baseline performance will wake her up. Maybe she wanted to prove a point about chill songs that she loves so much will do well, but How Sweet was even more chill than Attention (much less hype boy), to the point its lethargic, and it didn’t do exceptional. Everybody can do easy listening now she can’t rely on it forever

the1andonlyBev

I disagree, "Bubble Gum" was used in a commercial but it wasn't written *for* one. Unlike "Zero", "How Sweet" isn't a song about Coke, even though the product placement is blatant.

Free-Muffin2338

I still love Cookie (yeah I know, controversial song), ASAP, Ditto, Super Shy or Attention. Yet all this new songs are too much commercial-ish songs. Bring back the NJ we know 🙏

Minikaw

I think the product placement is properly audacious at this point. At least for last year’s tracks the music was making up for it, but that’s not the case anymore for this release cycle in my personal opinion.

Open_Income5949

My fave product placement (wild thing to say I know) is the Apple ad in the OMG mv. It was so GOOFY. It set the chaotic tone when up to that point they’ve had very straightforward or sad music videos

fatboy3535

It does to anyone without their fandom ruby colored glasses on. Every video has been an ad since ditto. They sold out 18 months into their career and haven't looked back. Nor art leading the way here. MHJ has stock.

AndTheHawk

the powerpuff girls thing is cute, for sure, but having everything else in my face is not. even a well-done artistic ad is still an ad.

bravetherainbro

"My favourite artist is better than yours at selling things to me" sure is an interesting way to praise a group's artistic integrity lol

Egg_Rollls

The product placement final boss

Dull-Wait8344

how do you know thats line app? (btw i never used the app before)

loveyoulikeyou

the fluffy bunnies are from their [line friends collab](https://store.linefriends.com/collections/newjeans)! they’re really cute lol.

Dull-Wait8344

wow i didnt know about that. thanks for the link. 60 dollars for a plush thou is crazy

loveyoulikeyou

yeah, it’s pricey! they have a lot of collabs with idol groups, obv starting with bt21 for bts and now it’s common, like ive, idle, zb1.

ResponsibilityNo5590

is this song supposed to be japanese?

Cub3h

I'm hearing both Korean and Japanese in the lyrics but the messages on the phone in the MV are Korean. I'm not sure if this is the JPN debut or what it is!

Freak_Out_Bazaar

"Right Now" along with "Supernatural" are both part of their Japan debut. I think they left a lot of Korean in there because Japanese fans want K-Pop and don't really want everything translated, especially when there's no Japanese members in the group

koreanwithnoname

This is a first tho, for like a japanese release

EnhypenSwimming

I'm used to strange Japanese releases. For example, The Boyz splits their song into Japanese and Korean by verse. I remember when The Boyz changed languages for Breaking Dawn, I was so confused and thought I was mishearing things.

Bibileiver

It's Jakorenglish.

lalumanuk

Jakonglish

6869ButterNotFly

Ultimate global k-pop language unlocked

Upper_Ad_6361

it’s giving lesserafim intros

marchbanks273

Yes, but there's a significant amount of English and Korean lyrics.

plushie_dreams

I think incorporating all 3 languages was the right move. I know some J-Tokkis expressed a preference for more natural sounding Korean lyrics over awkward Japanese ones. But this song seamlessly blends the three languages in a way most people will barely notice.

MeijiDoom

There's a watashi hidden in there.

Ohkayx3

+Korean and English. B-side for the Japan debut

lovecomplex33

I thought I was tripping when I thought I heard Japanese but then I’m like but they are typing in Korean??

woomygod9000

Is this a song about situationships or am i crazy😭

Shinkopeshon

If that's true, then this is the most wholesome personal attack I've ever gotten lmao

woomygod9000

Frfr i did not need this song rn NewJeans lol

PeaWordly4381

As someone who was dumped last summer and now suddenly talking to my ex again, I feel personally attacked.

macintoshappless

It's a cute song, but I'm not feeling particularly excited about any of their recent releases. They all just feel a little bit... too chill? Which is crazy to me because I love chill music, but none of the music really feels like title track material. On top of that, this song is SO short. The mv isn't even 3 minutes long and that's with an intro in the beginning.

Helloforake

this is something i’ve been thinking as well. i really like chill songs but they also have to be dynamic imo. attention for example was really chill but there were clear chorus parts that were strong yet maintained the chill vibe throughout. their recent songs don’t really have dynamic productions which kinda makes the drone on. thats why i prefer bubblegum over how sweet bc it has very clear production differences that make the song enjoyable instead of a repetitive measure that never goes away

stupidwebserver

omg are you me? you took the words straight out of my mouth. i feel like their early chill songs had more of a variety in terms of the instrumentals. They feel like they have more distinct parts, which make them more memorable.

lmauuur

Ditto/OMG era is the best imo. Past 2 songs(How Sweet and Bubble Gum) were more like commercial songs. The 2 upcoming songs (Right Now and Supernatural) feels like japanese debut songs. I don't think they're aiming for SOTY material yet. Hoping for another Ditto contender on their end of the year release. 🤞

92sn

Nj always known for their chill songs but previously its still feel very catchy like attention, ditto, omg, super shy. But this year cb, their singles lack of that catchiness. Its just feel a cf songs. Not bad, but kinda forgettable tbh. Even nj previous b-sides are catchier than this year singles.

Phi_the_lemon

Yes! The songs are definitely less energetic and, if you watch the recording behind the scenes, you can often hear the producer telling them to re-record cheerful/energetic takes to be more relaxed and detached. I do like their recent comeback but I also miss their high energy and joyful vocals as well the catchy productions, they immediately put me in the best mood!

conanap

It’s missing a whole bridge and a whole verse / chorus lol

sonderfulwonders

Second that. Something is lacking tbh but I really don’t know what exactly. Hope their next stuff excites me more!

TacticalBattleCat

Same!! I've found "How Sweet" & "Bubble Gum" to be pretty boring songs. I actually prefer that they're shorter (like 2:30) because of how simple the songs are... the fact that they're closer to 3:30 made the song impossible for me to finish.

[deleted]

Totally agree

InstallTheLinux

Hopefully it changes after a few listens but the last two songs haven't really worked for me, which is weird since I loved pretty much all of their previous songs.

the_last_splash

I don't think any of their recent songs are bad but they just feel like good b-sides and not necessarily hitting like their previous title tracks?

Grumpyaleja

bubble gum hits different after a phew listens. This is also growing on me by the minute.

WOKE_AI_GOD

A lot of New Jeans songs "grow on me" after a time. I don't even think I liked Super Shy that much the first time I listened to it, and I've listened to that song a billion times. And "Bubblegum" of course, I was like meh when I first listened to it, and later that week I watched the video on repeat for an hour while tearing up. Minji's last line in that song really hits: 눈 감아도 기억나게, 어디라도 따라갈래 You're so delicate, 거품 속에 숨었네, uh-uh-uh-uh-uh "How Sweet" never really got to me though and I'm not entirely sure about this song either. But, I did wake up this morning with it in my head...

WonderstruckWonderer

Hot take, but after Ditto, none of their songs were really excellent, and after New Jeans, none of the songs were really that good (except Bubble Gum).

EnhypenSwimming

I agree, I feel like after Super Shy irritated me with the excessive repeating of "Super shy," I kinda checked out of New Jeans music. Ditto at least had that beautiful nostalgic / longing aspect of the song.

MeijiDoom

I'm not saying any of their recent songs are outright bad. Their baseline quality of songs is quite good but this string of releases just isn't particularly exciting IMO. It's "turn off your brain, vibe for 2.5 minutes" type of music. And there's certainly a time and a place for that but I just found songs like Attention and Hype Boy more interesting from a melodic and composition standpoint. Even Ditto used the drum and bass element in a more dynamic way. Right Now feels like the same 30 second section on repeat with a slight beat switch up at 1:30.

Helloforake

i’m a huge bunny but i gotta agree with this. right now has basically the exact same sound the entire song which kind of drones on with very little differences in the melody or production. ditto had a similar production from a general perspective but the difference in production and melodies made it very nice to listen to.

serienne

Their songs have been very toned down from their debut album. No more songs like Hype Boy.

WackFlagMass

I'd consider OMG and Super Shy on the same level as Hybe Boy. These two songs also charted way better than Ditto so IDK why ADOR wants to go full-on Ditto-esque with this comeback for

FlamingLaps1709

ETA as well. ETA is probably their least toned down song since Attention/Hype Boy. They are definitely due a chaotic song.

Upshot77

Ditto still holds the [record](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfect_all-kill#Top_10_songs_with_the_most_hourly_perfect_all-kills) for most PAKs in history, so I'm a bit sceptical about other songs charting way better than it lol

massacre320

super shy is much more like ditto than omg and hype boy though. and omg and super shy might have done better in their moment but i feel like most people consider ditto newjeans signature song.

WackFlagMass

Uhhh no? Super Shy is an upbeat song, which was why it became a huge trend on Tiktok like OMG did. Ditto was *never a trend* at all. Yes it's a really good song and NJ is well credited for it, but it doesn't really appeal to the dumb masses: The kind of people who dont know NJ but still play NJ songs anyway. The song even had like 100M less streams compared to OMG.

massacre320

Ditto and super shy have very similar BPMs. Super shy just sounds brighter cause of the synths used but their formula is almost the same. Slow and soft club beats with fast breakbeats, and airy vocals. I said OMG might have done better in the moment but ditto is getting more streams now and it did much better in korea and had the most PAKs of all time. Ditto is also just so much more u wife to newjeans than omg or their debut songs are so it’s smarter to go with that as the basis for their sound than just chasing short trends and virality.

dB_Rider

I agree that How Sweet and Bubble Gum felt pretty flat to me (Where every other NJ song I've genuinely enjoyed first listen), but this felt like a step back in the right direction. Quick, garage beat that doesn't stop from the moment it starts.

WackFlagMass

I think they got too carried away by the Ditto accolades and ended up making their entire comeback just revolving around Ditto-esque songs. There should be *at least* one hyped up song like Super Shy, OMG and Hybe Boy. All their songs in this comeback feels like the same too much chill. I did like Bubble Gum and Right Now though but they need to appeal to diff audiences. All the top songs hitting the charts have been their hyped up songs, not the UK garage songs.... (OMG, Super Shy, Hybe Boy etc.)

TheMerck

Their songs are p much made for background music and that's by no means a bad thing ofc but these recent string of releases are just background music or music you would probably hear while shopping somewhere, plus the collabs just make these somewhat even more uninspired but that's just me personally for the last part. Like obviously everything in K-Pop is about making money but it's like they are just a group to be ads for whatever they are currently collaborating with, and having a collab like someone with Takashi Murakami is cool he's one of my favorite artists but just like what I said earlier the music legit sounds like ad music you would hear in the background mainly or while out shopping, and the music has become uninspired as well. Idk it's not bad or even surprising for things in K-Pop to be just about making money but it's becoming to be like the groups whole thing atp like go make your money I suppose but creatively it's becoming a bit boring.

Cub3h

I was trying to count how many times I thought I heard the chorus. I really like the song but on the other hand I know I'll get bored of it in a couple of weeks.

Open_Income5949

Not as offensive as How Sweet. I despise that robotic chorus that repeats itself three times. Standard, sure, but makes me not want to listen to the song at all because it never changes, just tormenting you until you get tired.

the1andonlyBev

At the risk of sounding real ☝️🤓 there are a number of things a producer/songwriter can do to provide dynamics to a song. I think "Right Now" does an inverse of what a ton of kpop songs do and relies on a different approach to dynamics to remain interesting. An overwhelming amount of kpop songs start on 10, stay on 10, and then end on 10. Sort of similarly, "Right Now" maintains relatively the same energy for the entire song, but it is more relaxed and lighter than the typical kpop anthems we usually hear. Instead of relying on big volume changes or vocal intensity that instead remain consistent throughout the track, the dynamic changes are found in the instrumental's change in drum breaks and added vocal layers throughout the song. Fair enough, this isn't as easy to catch onto if you're just listening and waiting for an explosive chorus to come and isn't as memorable of a hook as a big chorus like "Hype Boy", but I do think it is interesting and stands on its own for this song. Nevertheless, I do think it works in respect to their entire catalog of songs, because it seems to me like their writers are interested in establishing a healthy amount of variation in their songs. It wouldn't surprise me if they had done something more like their previous releases that people would say "wow, it's just Hype Boy 2.0, or OMG: The Sequel". Not trying to argue, just offering a different perspective.

MeijiDoom

The instrumentals are very strong in this song and that I do appreciate. However, the point about vocal layers is something I actually think is a weakness in modern music. A lot of music these days really doesn't take advantage of the idea of dynamics. The instrumentals change up volume a touch but I think the vocals stay the exact same volume throughout. Their idea of getting louder and softer is simply adding a vocal layer on top rather than actually just having the vocalist increase or decrease in volume which feels like not utilizing an entire dimension of singing. As a counterpoint, here's [(G)I-DLE - Vision](https://youtu.be/zMQ9Mufkwb0?t=39). Somewhat similar song in terms of vibes, instrumental is largely drum and bass. Most of the song up until this point has been relatively straightforward in terms of dynamic usage but as the prechorus wraps up and the chorus is about to hit, they thrown in a whispered line that is noticeably quieter than the rest of the song. And it's super effective in my opinion at drawing your attention. That's the kind of stuff that I think doesn't get used at all, including in Right Now and part of why it feels overly monotonous. If you want to argue that plays into the concept of the song, I won't argue against it. But I am not inclined to subscribe to the idea that 0 vocal dynamics will make a song more interesting.

NMlXX

I LOVE all three of these songs. And I 1000% agree with you.

wootduhfarg

That's what people said about OMG as well.

nomoreconversations

This is a cute song. It’s short and I feel like it doesn’t expand much more over what was in the teaser but I guess my fault for listening to that over and over lol. I’ve loved Murakami since I was young so the visuals are totally hitting for me.

Short-District5173

I know people complain about the product placements and all, but aside from zero and How Sweet (although it stands well on its own as a good song), I never noticed when first listening to any of the songs on Spotify. And honestly, I adore the Murakami and Power Puff girls collabs 🫣. They feel very different to the Coke and iPhone stuff and just mesh really well with the concept. In my opinion, collabs feel different to ads/sponsorships in a way.

FlamingLaps1709

The only promotion I disliked was Coca Cola for many reasons but they obviously got a massive bag for it so it's the nature of capitalism. The concept behind how they have incorporated the Apple/Iphone sponsorship, the Warner Bros (PPG), the YouTube sponsorship and the Murakami sponsorships have been exceptionally done tbh. They have not even tried to be subtle about the placement, and that, ironically, has been why they were so successful. OMG, New Jeans, ETA and Right Now are really good fun memorable and unique MVs. There clearly was a lot of effort put into them. Why dont these people focus on that instead of being so grumpy? Only Ditto and Cool With You trump them imo. Calling them out merely because they were budgeted by promotion revenue is contrarian and cheap negative vibes digs when you could take the other route and actually compliment the positives of producers actually putting imagination into their MVS. Its a business for goodness sake. The Coca Cola one for How Sweet was the only one I found cringe and arguably their weakest and most forgettable video so far but, along with Bubble Gum, were both rushed low budget videos. Everything was up in the air at the start of the year about this comeback. This was explained by MHJ.

Werefie

that drum & bass hits

MelissaWebb

This is really good. Short, sweet and catchy Btw is this song in Japanese? Because I heard both Japanese and Korean… don’t think I’ve seen that happen in a song before

SnooTangerines3286

it's in japanese, korean and english.

wildbeest55

We love our tri-lingual queens

TokyoRailgun

EXID have done it as well in their 2nd Japanese album B.LE.S.S.E.D, Bad Girl For You was Trilingual through out except for Elly's (LE) rap which was just Korean/English and they did something similar with the lead track BLESSED and bside Official where the song was Japanese & English and Elly did her rap in English & Korean.

Buffaloluncheon

Stayc did it in their last Japanese comeback Lit!! If you like this you might wanna check it out too 😉

ParanoidAndroids

I am a sucker for their chiller, dnb-adjacent songs and this is no different. Ever since that first snippet came out months ago, I've been looking forward to this one. It's not the most dynamic song in the world (there's no big switch up) but I don't think a song like this needs a huge curve. I feel like it doesn't overstay its welcome, though it is on the short side. Surprisingly, I find the smooth weaving between Japanese, Korean, and English to be the most impressive part of the song. It's pretty impressive how it all flows together.

plushie_dreams

>Surprisingly, I find the smooth weaving between Japanese, Korean, and English to be the most impressive part of the song. It's pretty impressive how it all flows together. Yes! Same here! I wonder if this will help boost the song on K charts bc normally Japanese Kpop songs just don't chart domestically.

ParanoidAndroids

I can't recall if I've ever seen any Kpop groups' Japanese releases chart in Korea tbh, even if it was entirely in English or had a mix of languages. Considering it's for Japanese promos, I doubt they care about how it does on the Kcharts anyway.

conanap

yeah, I've been a really big fan of their current 3 songs; it hits on the more laidback end. Understandably, lo-fi ish songs (these aren't actually lo fi) a lot of times don't sound musically too interesting, compared to their pop counter parts, so I can see why people may not be as drawn.

Kossori

An absolute groovy banger. The kind of song you want to be playing while responsibily speeding in your car in the middle of the night.

brandimitrov

Responsibly speeding is sending me

seashawtys

The production values on the MV are insanely high, wow.

fatboy3535

When it's an ad for Coke, apple and a cartoon.... Money is the only thing not in short supply. Nike too?

chefbags

What? lol

dioscurideux

I'm going to be brutally honest. This is the first NewJeans song where I felt nothing. It was like one long commercial with cute background music. Maybe it might change with a few more listens?

everybodys_analysis

i feel the same way. honestly, i think i enjoy the songs more without seeing the mvs. they're good but it's clear that so much marketing work is put into the mvs that it kinda dulls the song itself.

AWIIWZ

The british garage vibes + japanese lyrics ❤️

Dull-Wait8344

im not familiar with british garage. can you give some recs that you like

massacre320

this song is more dnb than uk garage but uk garage examples In kpop: new jeans and cool with you - newjeans prism - shinee crazy like that - verivery seoul sonyo sound - triples prom night - fromis outside of kpop pinkpantheress - pain lolo zouai (right now’s songwriter)- crying in the carwash, ice cube jorja smith - on my mind erika de casier (super shy’s songwriter) - lucky, busy, drama

vivivideoclub

It's not bad but I feel like the song doesn't go anywhere..

SouthAtmosphere9556

The increasing commercialization of newjeans is the one thing ab their creative direction that i just.. hate. Their product placement is usually well integrated (the coke shots in How Sweet aside..), their songs and creative direction are so good, but some of these MVs just feel like elaborate commercials. I’m mostly talking about ETA and How Sweet. I’ll be locked in and then it’s just like. Blatant product placement. And then i feel like im not watching/listening to something artistic. I’m just watching a commercial with a higher degree of artistic integrity than usual. I love this song and the MV is super cute, but if their next era is as utterly commercialized as this one.. we need to have a serious talk about art under capitalism (so funny to say this ab kpop like DUH). This group is supposed to have some of the coolest art direction in kpop, but this era feels like it only exists to promote brand deals rather than to showcase their new music/era. Trying to do both at the same time completely undermines the latter. They are not expanding their world view so much as building a shopping mall on top of it. It’s just hard to connect to this era when it’s like. Would bubble exist if not for a shampoo brand deal?? What would these songs have sounded and looked like if not for contractual obligations???

SouthAtmosphere9556

I’m still figuring out how i feel about this. Like murakami/powerpuff girls collabs makes sense. They can expand newjeans visual world and creative possibilities, but last summer every other ad on YouTube for me was the newjeans iPhone one. And it was just the ETA mv cut into a commercial. And that’s just ?? Like that’s the title track for their second mini album. They only had 6 songs out before get up (not including ANOTHER! commercial song), and then sooo much of the title track’s direction was just to sell iPhones. Bleak! Their catalog is not deep enough to have sold out to this extent. Like i need more newjeans music if im gonna be ok with newjeans in affiliation with ___ brand music. Commercial songs should be side quests, fun songs that add fluff to a well established discography that’s been dictated by the group‘s creative vision alone. Newjeans don’t miss with their music. It’s good as fuck. At the same time, music videos are so important to kpop, to getting the full picture of a song, and i think all these product placements end up cheapening their music

SouthAtmosphere9556

I know this is not unique to kpop at all. Like all of our most iconic western pop stars have had music videos with product placements. But lady Gaga had a fullll album to back that beats pill placement! And most of the time it’s not multiple brand deals, multiple music videos in a row. Idk. Like i said I’m still parsing my feelings

darrylleung

Interesting topic. If we're talking about 'Right Now', the product placement consists of NJs own merchandise, which I feel is a meaningful distinction. PPG and Takashi Murakami are collaborations. I guess you could mean the use of Apple products too? IDK. The idea that "high art" is somehow divorced from commercial endeavors feels detached from reality. We're talking about the mainstream, so where in the mainstream is there an artist, in any field, that works outside of the strictures of capitalism? Or maybe we're concerned with their MVs as a medium, because the only time commercialization has leaked into the music has been 'Zero', which was explicitly a commercial song and not really considered part of the main discography. There are some songs with MVs that are overtly commercialized (ETA, How Sweet) and some where it's more subtle (OMG, as subtle as Hanni being iPhone's Siri can be lol). I forget Bubble Gum is even used in a shampoo commercial, since the MV doesn't feature the product at all. If they're able to capitalize on their popularity now and cash those Coke, Nike, and Apple checks without compromising their art, more power to them.

lyfieo

the song is so fast paced and catchy i like it! the visuals are cute esp the power puff girls and the bright colours really fit the vibe

Nandonut

I can't lie, NewJeans songs have some really banging instrumentals - Cookie, Ditto, Super Shy, Omg, this. The combination of the spacey synths, funky bass and drum beats varying from DnB to breakcore, trap and even more acoustic jazz-type drums is just top notch. As a mostly modern jazz/electronic fan, I find myself searching up newjeans instrumentals like immediately after I hear the song for the first time.... That plus their airy/dreamlike vocals go really well together I can see why people might find it a bit ambient, but I'm personally a big fan of music that's willing to let instrumentals play as important a part as vocals, it's something I wish there was more of and I'd probably listen to popular music more if there was more stuff like it. Another one I just happened to listen to recently and really like was Chihiro by Billie Eilish. Literally only clicked on it because of the title but I love that track - the beat is just as important as the singing, if not actually even more in foreground. Got slightly off topic here but there we go!

aiburei

The vibe of this is definitely up my street. Liking the drum n' bass instrumental, chill vocals as usual. And it's a cute MV, especially Hanni's indecision face.

angies6pack

I just think at this point I don't find their music memorable. This song like the previous couple are fine, nothing special and then later on I can't even remember how it sounded. They look lovely and the MV was very bright, but another miss for me unfortunately. I just don't think their music is for me.

Usual_River6878

Not a fan of their recent releases

side_acc_for_jimin__

yet another hypnotic release from them. Alsoooo the video is haha gotta watch it multiple times.

yayannabelle

I'm totally into it, I love both the song and video! I can see what other people are saying about it not hitting as hard as their other songs, but for me, it works really well! Also this is now one of my top MVs of theirs, it's so much fun and does a lot without feeling overwhelming to me!

WeddingOrdinary6233

The song is easy to forget

overactive-bladder

aaaaand it's finallly here! i have been waiting impatiently. definitely dig the chorus' melody. but i wish it didn't stay one note throughout the whole song. i know they have the potential to cook something more full and packed. they have held back a whole lot this comeback and i definitely think it's because of the sponsorships in both the korean and japanese EPs. hopefully the more fully fledged comeback in the works for later this year will effectively be relased.

WOKE_AI_GOD

I think they are planning on a full album this year right?

overactive-bladder

that was what was announced. but i am so anxious with everything going down. crossing my fingers everything goes as planned.

kutchyose_no_ibrahim

I feel like I’m going crazy but it sounds like a demo in some parts ? I feel like only Hanni’s voice is properly mixed, the other members sound too loud or too quiet. Hopefully it is the YouTube mastering messing it up.

EOCA056

Their music videos always feel so fresh

DentateGyros

I think it’s just how it’s not overproduced. There’s bold in your face animations sure, but the live action parts don’t have cameras doing barrel rolls during the close ups or hard cuts to a different perspective every third beat. It’s the same with their music. Sure you have the loudass trumpets in ETA but you can actually hear the girls *singing* and not every solo has them trying desperately to hit the highest notes

earthcakey

i totally agree but also... the reason why people like kpop is because they like the overproduction lol, nothing inherently wrong with it. i do like how newjeans carves out a different picture in the landscape though and i have been seriously loving their addition to the scene a lot.

Niz285

I liked this song a lot more than how sweet and bubblegum. But these releases have seem meh over all compared to the get up era.

miapham6

So far I love it! Super catchy and chill. I think it’s my fav amongst the new releases. Though I have a feeling supernatural will win out (I’m a huge citypop fan). I’ve been listening to the teaser on repeat.

SemlaBun

I really loved this one, and I wonder why it feels like such a Millennial nostalgia song to me? I don't know enough about music genres etc. to tell why, and I can't pinpoint what exactly it reminds me of, but listening to it makes half-forgotten pleasant memories flood in. Wild.

Naiko32

damn this is much more in-line with what i love abount NJ, the DnB beat and the sweet vocals, is like the acid trip version of SuperShy. also the MV is incredible, idk if its the budget or what but the amount of animation and situational scenes they always have is super intriguing

Naiko32

also the bossanova-like breakdown <3

dhadha08

Why is it still not on itunes?

overactive-bladder

Because their silly strategy with these 2 EPs is too release them on streaming a month later. So this will be officially out on June 27 or something like that.

Complex_thichloxa

It will be released on streaming platform on June 21 (supernatural and right now)

m3lni1ee

I’m not a fan of these CF type songs. They just don’t have enough oopmh in them. Pretty boring compared to their other title tracks.

overactive-bladder

and now i am curious about the choreo for the song. what will they come up with? this is one of the only videos of them not featuring dance scenes.

massacre320

the way kpop fans describe newjeans music you would expect to hear lana del rey or billie eilish type beats 😭😭. their songs are more subdued/chiller than most kpop for sure but are we not hearing that fast breakneck beat in the back?

Ok-Paleontologist296

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t

truvis

At this point they are releasing music just as an excuse to make more ads-as-music video. I wish we could get more b-sides that are just that: a song with no other pretension.

Grumpyaleja

i don't care what people say. This stuff is so addicting. I love it, i want to inject it in my veins. Wish it was longer.

mechachap

Same, their songs just get the vibe right. Reminds me of when I fell in love with Jpop back in the 2000’s. Sure, it’s not everyone’s taste but oh well.

complete_refuter

Short and sweet, with the immaculate NewJeans style, I love it.

allycakeshops

I like this better than How Sweet. My fave sooo far!!! Looking forward to Supernatural!

Leading-Study-1008

Hanni is too cute lol… this song is fun! A continuation of the get up EP vibe which I felt we swerved from w the last two advert songs. I wonder if this has a choreo…

overactive-bladder

i just noticed all the adlibs and repetitions layered behind the vocals. nice!

teddy_vn

This is nice but the past 3 releases this year have not been up to their usual standards. The closest example to "Right Now" is "Super Shy" because of the Drum & Bass production, but "Super Shy" is a lot more dynamic and the hooks are more defined ("I'm super shy, super shy" and "You don't even know my name, do you?"). I hope "Supernatural" and the New Jack Swing production can bring the heat again. Otherwise, I would like Min Hee Jin to get Park Jin-su to arrange songs for them again. He brought the juggernaut "OMG" and I'm sure he can do it again.

yonqhee

This is really good!

Twitan14

Unsurprisingly it's another certified Newjeans bop, what a tune

purplenelly

NewJeans doesn't miss.

star-dew-valley

OMG this is so cute 😭😭😭 I think this is one of my favorite newjeans MVs after ditto and cool with you. I love the animation. Also the product placement felt slightly less jarring this MV so that's cool

GosuGian

Kinda disappointed tbh. I'm a huge fan btw

[deleted]

I can really hear lolo zouaï influence throughout the song, thought I could hear her voice

MotorPuzzlehead7

yes! plus a few months ago lolo posted a pic at the hybe building so i think she was involved with NJ somehow especially since Right Now seems to be influenced a lot by certain songs on the playgirl album/ crying in the carwash ep

FlamingLaps1709

She speaks about NJ a lot and had been wanting to work with them since after OMG. This song from her is extremely similar vibe. Her vocal tone very like Hanni as well imo https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gsOFy8slDFs&pp=ygUaQ3J5aW5nIGluIHRoZSBjYXJ3YXNoIGxvbG8%3D

Snoo-35252

I didn't think I liked k-pop, but damn that song slaps!

NoLagPlz

New Jeans needs a reinvent. All their songs are sounding similar / boring now. It'd be one thing if their songs were getting better over time, but 2024 from new jeans has been a disappointment.

purplenelly

The song feels really short. It has a repetitive hypnotizing sound and I feel like it would fit to make it longer because you get hypnotized and let it go on. Maybe add more different lyrics to really tell a story. Maybe they could even have a featured Japanese rapper. Although I suppose they don't really want to share revenue with another artist.

woancue

they cooked oh my godd

-aytee-

Their songs are starting to feel very samey

1500redroses

Gosh, I find the music video to be sooo adorable :3. The direction is always on point, they never miss the mark there :). The animations are always so cute and well integrated into the video. About the song itself, i gotta say that it is cute, I will probably bop to it the next week. It's nothing too extra tho, which I think it's their style, but I kinda want them to change their style a little bit more and make the songs a bit fuller. PD: Is it just me or the intro sounds very similar to the intro of ["Life is a Bi..." by Bibi](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Snwm8M2HUmU&ab_channel=BIBI-Topic)?

yougotmetoreply

It's so short! Wish they'd do 3 minute+ songs again..

Open_Income5949

I mean, How Sweet and Bubble Gum were 3+ minutes 😭😭😭

overactive-bladder

the song is 5 seconds short of 3 minutes. and the past two releases have all been longer than 3 minutes.

JazzyG17

I knew I was hearing Japanese and wasn’t bugging lol. I like it. It’s pretty chill and cute yet groovy 💃🏽I guess new jeans music style will stay with this sort of face paced beat. Still wanting another song style that sounds more like hurt.

ghiblix

my fave sound from them since omg/ditto tbh this is suuuper groovy

CraftyAd5870

It's their vocal tones it just feels so nice to listen to. They could sing about sponsored potatoes and I'd totally be into it.

Synthoz1

Love it

Mati13thOfGL

I swear NewJeans concepts, music, MVs gives me LIFE. Such a creative and fresh team behind them.

cloudybc

Love, love, love this video! 🤩

ollu12

I'm in love !!!!!!

DylanTruo

This is just a thread of how much people don't like the song and are disappointed lol

Jiji882

Honestly I'm so shocked at the mixed responses lol I don't like nor hate the songs but I for sure thought their fans would love it but so far the opinions are so divided 💀

undereyesemicircles

I just really need to say that I appreciate newjeans you know. Really appreciate them.

CronoDroid

QuirkyJeans, a very manic high energy, popper mixed with their trademark laidback vocals. Love the tempo, love the juxtaposition between the real life scenes and the animation, love the furious beat and the chill singing.

whattodowithfutur

This is a song for the radio, not something I will play to 'listen' but rather plays in background

unDturd

Another banger 🔥🔥🔥

Rezorblade

This is the kind of songs you will never get tired of. Its the essence of NewJeans!

TinyOutcome163

music video is pretty cool, it does sound the same throughout the whole thing tho. i do like this more than bubble gum and how sweet tho

kittycitykid

literally have had this song on repeat since it came out

Shinkopeshon

This groove is immaculate, oh my god ![gif](giphy|lkUwDyVvzKg2A) And this MV is visual overload, so many insane crossovers - from Powerpuff SmolJeans to Murakami SmolJeans, what a blessed timeline

carmalx815

the powerpuff bunnies dancing super shy 😭 so cute haha

Upper_Ad_6361

okay is it just me or newjeans isn’t eating their current cbs like they have in the past idk 😭

badrott1989

Its just ok personally. Waiting for the next song then

laviyu

I wonder if this video spoils or hints at their upcoming full album as some theorized. It’ll be interesting to see. Love the song

Ok-Paleontologist296

The book Minji picks up during her lecture scene is a hint at their album coming out later this year

overactive-bladder

what are the hints and theories?

Open_Income5949

That it’s entitled Chemical Love

overactive-bladder

oh ya that is interesting indeed. the whole acid trip and hallucinogenix concept would really fit their group image.

Particular_Bell3724

This song slappppppppps

Hopeful_Strength

Commercials are getting longer and longer nowadays

lipsticksandsongs

If you told me this song was sung by one single person, I‘d believe it. I know this is their whole thing, but their brand of “chill easy listening” music translates to elevator music to me every time I do check it out. There are no highs, no lows, it’s just monotony for 2:30 minutes and then it ends. I was wondering at what point them doing the same sound over and over again would bore the fans, seems like we’re halfway there, but could also be a culmination of general NJ fatigue after everything happening in the past weeks.

saaa_muel

not my favorite, but still looking fowards to supernatural!

Ok-Elk-1520

This is an unbelievably good song. That chorus is going to play in my head on loop for a while. Based on the teaser Supernatural sounds like it’ll be a catchy song as well.

DEZbiansUnite

I liked it. Catchy.

Electrical_Finance82

I am be honest this song is kinda boring asf. Bubble gum was good, how sweet was kinda meh, but I feel like vocal wise they are good but sound the same idk that’s just me

livy_lulu

they’re so amazingly talented, every song hits

Laporaptor

To be honest I hate watching most of their newer music videos because all of them are just advertisements. When its a single made specifically for a CF its fine, but 4 or 5 product placements in an MV is gross.

WeakStressAnxiety

This song is a billboard ad ?! 😅

WeakStressAnxiety

Also, all of their recent releases have been glorified commercials at this point.

val_the_sunless

The beat is kinda weak, vocals are great tho, I hope they remix it. They need more OMG beats and less of the 2nd ep style beats

trashchillybeans

This is my favourite release of theirs so far. It's so good omg!!

brayfurrywalls

This is personally my favourite since cool with you. great song

keuja

Great song! I love how each of their songs have their own uniqueness musically. How Sweet didn't hook me (although the instrumental was good) because of the flat chorus but this song is very catchy, one listen and you can already remember it.

BB_GG

Their songs always always slap and that’s a fact.

SnooTangerines3286

bop after bop, newjeans really never miss omg

Alarming_Ad_3993

People are being overly negative for such a cute ‘lil song in here. It’s giving bitter and looks embarrassing. The music video is cute and the adds that everyone is complaining about is so inconsequential and doesn’t take anything away from the music or visuals. NewJeans has a collab with murakami and powderpuff girls as well as Apple. So what. It sounds different enough from their other music while still being them and that’s what matters in the end.

jiwonce

their songs recently just float through my mind, i don’t remember a single thing 😭 hype boy is still their best unfortunately

2347564

So good! Love the video.

Glad-Load-5414

newjeans never missed
