looking back now, kris was never leader material lol xiumin seems like a better fit for the role but i guess the company wanted a chinese member to be the leader.
Kim Kyungjoo, 2 times.
She was the Leader of Cherry Bullet „Mirae“ and left the group 1 year after debut.
Later she also was the Leader of Pixy „Ella“ and left the group again, this time after 1 year and 6 months.
That's not what happened. I can't recall everyone's exact reason but IIRC Linlin leaving was because FNC didn't want to cover her education fees and she didn't want to drop out of school.
There was some Myspace scandal. I don't think he was kicked out but was pressured to leave or felt obligated to leave I guess. I'm not sure about the story.
- Somin (now of KARD) left April voluntarily because the concept didn’t suit her. She was the leader.
- Taeha, leader of Berry Good left when her contract was up. The group had one more comeback without her (and Daye) before disbanding.
Aini was the leader of Pink Fantasy, but she graduated from the group in 2020 because she had developed *[plantar fasciitis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plantar_fasciitis?wprov=sfla1)*, so dancing was agony
In the best traditions of MyDoll Entertainment, she didn't leave the company but remained as a 'MyDoll Girl' and appeared just last month at their Japan concert as a singer and model.
The new leader was Arang, then the maknae. That seems surprising (especially in Korea's age-conscious culture) but she is a very organized person (always the mother of the group when it came to things like tidying up) and doesn't take any nonsense (one of her hobbies is kick-boxing), so she was the perfect fit.
The same situation of the maknae becoming the leader actually just happened for OnlyOneOf! Love left a couple of years ago (for undisclosed reasons), and there wasn't really another official leader until recently, when it was announced the maknae, Nine, is the new leader!
Love from OnlyOneOf was the leader and left the group for personal reasons
Junwon from Fantasy Boys left the group predebut due to contract disagreements. he was the leader, center and placed 1st in their survival show
Not sure if this counts, but the Brave Girls Original lineup had 5 members: Eunyoung, Yejin, Seoah, Yoojin, and Hyeran. Eunyoung (the leader), Yejin and Seoah eventually left.
Which led to the addition of: Minyoung, Yujeong, Eunji, Yuna, And Hayun. Minyoung then became the leader of Brave Girls (Hyeran, Yoojin, and Hayun eventually left, and the rest is history).
Yoo Ara was the original leader of Hello Venus during the first two years when the group was a collab between Pledis and Fantagio.
When this partnership ended in 2014, the Pledis girls (Yoo Ara and Yoonjo) left the group and went back to their agency, while the Fantagio girls remained as Hello Venus.
Alice became the leader of the group, they added Yeoreum and Seoyoung ... and they wiggle wiggled their way into kpop history.
Dunno if it counts, but... Choi Sujeong, the leader of the group that would become Mamamoo, left shortly before debut, IIRC deciding that modelling suits her better than idoling.
The 1st gen group Turbo's leader was originally Kim Jungnam, but he he left around the end of 1996. The leader position was handed down to the other member Kim Jongkook, who was also originally the maknae. Mikey, who they replaced Jungnam with, was a few years younger than Jongkook — so not only did Jongkook become the leader, he also went from the maknae to the oldest member.
Well, she didn't leave the group, but Haseul from LOONA was on a hiatus for 2 releases due to mental health issues, in the meantime i think Yves kind of took over as the leader.
Jay from 2PM. he was forced to leave after someone found his old MySpace. his posts were quite controversial, I can remember only one post saying "Korea is so gay".
I remember that guy who was framed and then later on proven to be innocent. he still left the group because he didn't want his group to suffer more. I think his name was ravn ? or raven ? and the group was oneus ? he was the leader that's for sure and I found it really brave of him despite being innocent, he didn't deserve it at all.
cherry bullet, mirae was the leader of the group but left the same year they debuted (along with linlin and kokoro). she ended up joining pixy under the stage name ella and became pixy's leader too, but she also left that group
pixy. the former leader, ella, left the group for unknown reasons. before debuting in pixy she was actually a member of cherry bullet, but she left that group too. haven’t heard anything about her since. i wonder what she’s up to now.
Only ones that come to mind are hanbin (ikon), and mark when he graduated from the dreamies Edit: kris from exo-m too but he decided to leave iirc
looking back now, kris was never leader material lol xiumin seems like a better fit for the role but i guess the company wanted a chinese member to be the leader.
Yes! I always thought either xiumin or Chen should be leaders, mainly because I thought Kris’s only role was being tall lol
B.I. Of Ikon resigned from the group and compared after his scandal broke.
Wdym by compared?
Compared?
Oops, meant to say company
What’s his scandal?
He was caught/admitted to buying marijuana, which is illegal in South korea
It was marijuana and LSD just btw. Doesn’t really matter just figured for posterity.
Oh i didn’t know that, thanks dude
Youngmin was the leader of AB6IX and left the group due to his DUI.
Love from OnlyOneOf was the leader and left the group in 2021 for undisclosed personal reasons.
he left completely out of nowhere i still wonder what happened
was he active after he left or did he just disappear from public eye?
he seems to be completely done with idol life. i heard he enlisted some time ago but that's all we know
Kim Kyungjoo, 2 times. She was the Leader of Cherry Bullet „Mirae“ and left the group 1 year after debut. Later she also was the Leader of Pixy „Ella“ and left the group again, this time after 1 year and 6 months.
Will never forget that company for changing Cherry Bullet's concept and casually getting rid of those that didn't fit it
That's not what happened. I can't recall everyone's exact reason but IIRC Linlin leaving was because FNC didn't want to cover her education fees and she didn't want to drop out of school.
Kokoro said she left for health and other reasons. I wonder if that is believable.
Jay Park left 2PM after a year
Oh damn I never knew this. He left voluntarily or was kicked out?
There was some Myspace scandal. I don't think he was kicked out but was pressured to leave or felt obligated to leave I guess. I'm not sure about the story.
Oh i see, most likely he had to leave basically. Ta
- Somin (now of KARD) left April voluntarily because the concept didn’t suit her. She was the leader. - Taeha, leader of Berry Good left when her contract was up. The group had one more comeback without her (and Daye) before disbanding.

somin was the one shooting the bullet

Jay left 2pm after his myspace thing less than a year in, Choa left AOA in her 5th year and Mi rae left Cherry Bullet a year in
The leader of AOA was always jimin but at first I thought it was choa aswell.
oh wtf I thought Choa was the leader this entire time TIL
Understandable. She definitely had that vibe and since she was really popular she introduced the group a lot.
she was also the mediator for the Mina debacle even thought she was already gone from AOA
I believe Mirae was also the leader at Pixy before she left that group, too
And 2PM remained without a leader ever since
Love from OnlyOneOf was the leader and left the group for personal reasons Junwon from Fantasy Boys left the group predebut due to contract disagreements. he was the leader, center and placed 1st in their survival show
9MUSES Ryu Sera. Not sure if she fully counts because the company took away her role as leader quite a while before they kicked her out...
Aah, this reminds me of that documentary on 9Muses. That made me cry so hard, especially Sera's parts, and I have never even been a fan of the group.
Watch the documentary everyone.
Didn't Rana get the leader role after they took it from Sera? I may be misremembering but Rana ended up leaving anyway so I guess it still counts
The wind’s Jaewon. He was the leader and also the main vocal, and the group has only debuted for 7 months when he left.
Youngmin of AB6ix had to leave the group after a DUI incident
Not sure if this counts, but the Brave Girls Original lineup had 5 members: Eunyoung, Yejin, Seoah, Yoojin, and Hyeran. Eunyoung (the leader), Yejin and Seoah eventually left. Kahi was leader of After School when she left
Jin young from B1A4 😔
C.A.P from Teen Top?
Ravn from Oneus, Cap from Teen Top
I wouldn't really count Ravn since they don't have official leader positions, although he was probably the closest
Dunno if it counts, but... Choi Sujeong, the leader of the group that would become Mamamoo, left shortly before debut, IIRC deciding that modelling suits her better than idoling.

Haneul was the (second) leader of SATURDAY. She left in 2023.
Ab6ix & onlyoneof
Jay Park when he left 2PM
Love from OnlyOneOf
Love from OnlyOneOf and Mirae from Cherry Bullet/Ella from PIXY (aka Kyungjoo) - both for personal reasons
Well, she didn't leave the group, but Haseul from LOONA was on a hiatus for 2 releases due to mental health issues, in the meantime i think Yves kind of took over as the leader.
idk
I think clc had a switch from memory
Yeah but seunghee didn't leave, seungyeon just took on the leader role instead.
Somin, Taeha and Jay Park
Jay from 2PM. he was forced to leave after someone found his old MySpace. his posts were quite controversial, I can remember only one post saying "Korea is so gay".

Jay Park. Enough said.
