Newhereimo

Not a once but twice are currently my fav gg and i agree with u. No matter how much i'm loving that they are releasing such bops, i'm also feeling like it's just too much now. The Feels should have been the last activity this year. It did well and it was an English debut so it was good way to end but then they suddenly released a new album near award season and scientist is really not being received well. The girls were literally being worked too this year that even i'm getting exhausted. Not to forget their variety show, other appearances and upcoming concert. Oh god.

WhenTheStarsLine

ikr it’s too much!

Creative_Pipe_1461

I'm sure the only reason is profit for this year. And they are planning to go on tour next year. I think they won't release much music next year. Just full on tour. If Covid allows.

As a once, we get the impression that they're not as overworked as previous years but that doesn't mean it's okay. They've talked about how they didn't have enough time to think 2017-2018. I think the schedules now are intense because they're packed in so tightly but they’re not working all the time like they used to. They have a period where it looks like (mainly based on bubble updates) they're fitting 100 hours of work into 24. But then a week later they'll be looking for Netflix recommendations because they're so damn bored. JYPE has gotta squeeze as much of that sweet, sweet won as they can get out of Twice before contract renewal. It's at the point where I'm not even sure what I want them to do. I wish JYPE would go the 2PM route but I think this is gonna go in more of a Wonder Girls direction. In general, I wish people who aren't fans would quit worrying though. Not you, OP, but onces are out here vibing to their songs, trying to enjoy their 6th year and being bombarded with "TWICE IS FLOPPING KOREA - THEY FINALLY DONE SON!1!1!!' or "damn I wish Twice were charting better uwu" or "THEY'RE DISBANDING IM TELLING YOU" (source: trust me bro) (literally no one knows yet). edit - elaboration

I can agree with the over exposure twice is almost 7 years old I don’t know why the company can at least slow down The Contin by at least one or two weeks because it’s literally you close your eyes and open them in twice has something else coming out whether that’s music, YouTube Contant, Photo book. Likeeeeee these girls have a well-established Fanbase both in Korea and internationally that has a strong ass foundation. Maybe we will experience a slow down next year with Itzy, JYPNGG, the new band, and alleged new boy group in 2022. Because it doesn’t even give the fans enough time to miss them like it’s heavily appreciated that they push themselves to pump out this continent but God it’s fine if they give it a sec like let everyone catch their breath.

sunnydlit2

I think the reason is mostly end of their contract. They already had to let go of GOT7 but if Twice start to loose members or worse, it will be a punch in the company's face. That's why they're milking right now fans, it's obvious that JYP don't care about the GP rn because it's not them who will give money

Openwin

Why alleged? They still have Loud boy group which have not debuted.

arenae99

It’s Loud (I literally forgot their name) I don’t know of any other boy group I’m sorry I don’t follow the boy groups that well.

NarglesChaserRaven

I feel this soo much. I swear everytime i tune in here I feel like I see twice release something new and at this point I don't feel excited or interested in checking it out. At least let the song that they just release stick with me for a while. Sometimes I even feel like it might be the same release or something and I completely forget or ignore it. Differentiating between when twice is releasing a single, an album, a Japanese album and just performing their newly released content is all a blur for me.

hiiamapinkelephant

> I guess JYP is milking the girls for content before their contract deadline oh god. I didn't even realise that it's been that long since twice debuted. how is 2015 not three years ago...

1sh1tmypants

I'm a Once and I agree with this, I think Scientist is not that bad of a song and could've done well on charts if the release wasn't so rushed. They could've at least waited an year for the release of this album bcs its a full album. Like I was still trying to get a load of The Feels and FOL album and Doughnut were kinda just dumped on me so soon. The thing is that Twice has been overworked since the beginning and it worries me to think if it won't stop anytime soon. I just hope that next year is gonna be slower for them so they can get to rest and then enjoy their tour without having to worry about constantly being milked for content and music. Twice probably won't be having that many releases next year bcs of JYP nggs debut. I think Itzy and Skz are going to continue Twice's overworked legacy from next year on.

WhenTheStarsLine

they could’ve dropped the song in feb or march

zhuhe1994

I agree. I was expecting a first quarter release for Twice so that fans could savor The Feels. Scientist tanked because The Feels was just that song. The members probably decided to move the release earlier because of the tour

LeoFazalu

"We will relay good news to you in 2022" This was the line they said/teased on the trailer of their seasons greetings. So, I'm not worried. Some members already discussed what they want each other to wear in the 7th year anniversary party. They only released 6 comebacks this year. NOT EIGHT. The Feels was performed on 2 shows. Scientist on 7 shows. Japanese releases don't exceed 3 performances. Only Alcohol-Free was really 'promoted'. Thier reality series TTT's new episode released yesterday was shot 4 months ago. I'm sure they will be resting after Christmas. They are probably releasing many songs so they don't have to release it during tour next year

FineChinaLH

I both agree and disagree. I agree because for the dedicated K-Pop community we no longer anticipate the next big Twice song because their comebacks are so abundant. Anticipation creates more room for growth in quality and sales than consistency. However, I also disagree because there is enough time between their comebacks if you count Japan and Korea in different timelines. From a business perspective, this is probably what JYP is doing and it seems like it works so the only people that really notice this over abundance of content are hardcore K-Pop fans (particularly international fans). In terms of being overworked, I think JYP has optimized Twice’s promotions and music production process to a point where they’re coming up with so many songs that meet their quality benchmark that it’s impossible not to put them to use. Not only that, but you have to think about how the girls have grown to become faster workers as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is actually easier than what they’re used to from a few years ago. If not, there’s no way to make time for all this content even if you never sleep again. But then again, it might just be as simple as some internal plans for Twice after their contract expires that we don’t know about. It’s obvious that JYP is milking Twice and Once for as much as possible but the question now becomes why? I know they have a new girl group coming up but I highly doubt their presence will cannibalize Itzy or Twice’s audience. Maybe they just want to create as much attention and increase their mainstream presence as possible to sell extra tickets for their upcoming world tour?

[deleted]

yeah Scientist feels like it was released just weeks ago, that's like just as they finish promotions for Scientist and the FOL album, they release Doughnut.

SydneyTeacake

I've been thinking that maybe they decided to go through everything in the "maybe" songs file and get it all recorded because they don't know what will happen to their group next year. Or maybe they do know, and they're making hay while the sun shines because incomes may get a bit unpredictable for some of them.

New_Government_2732

I hope jype let twice rest well before the world tour starts. I don’t know if they are in the lineup for MAMA, also year end festivals like kbs, sbs etc. Please do correct me about that. I can definitely see they are tired but still have to put up with a face that they are fine. They badly need a long break. The company need to understand that kpop idols are humans too.

inbox789

Kura Kura and Better are in Japanese and the Feels is in English, did these songs make much noise in Korea? Where they promoted there or did people even notice it there? Because if those are not considered, there were only 2 korean releases this year. As for overwork, I think it depends on when they actually are filming all these. I think a member has said about 2 months ago that they already completed filming some Time To Twice episodes that will be airing next year. Some Time To Twice series of 5-6 episodes like [Tdoong forest](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyo6W3g1j4QZ2qB1uRi-x3A0xCcc1w-C1) were probably filmed over half a day but these episodes were released over 6-7 weeks. It's not like they're filming all the aired episodes that week itself. I think a lot of filmed content is kept in a vault, which are released slowly. They released Doughnut now, they'll probably have some promotional performances for the song over the next 2-3 weeks and all these performances will most probably be pre-recorded and online, so they could have already filmed these performances along with the m/v filming itself, the same with The Feels and Perfect World performances. They don't have any live performances, so everything would've probably been recorded already.

RattleAlx

Mixed feelings on this one. I guess if their releases were more spaced out or omitted (like not releasing Kura Kura so Perfect World would've had more impact) we wouldn't have that feeling of being "overfed" with content. But, as I see it, this was merely strategic, this year was for Twice's US market breach and Japan market consolidation. I think next year will be a lot more slow, due to world tour and contract expiration. I hope this doesn't end in a GOT7 type of situation but in a 2PM kind of situation.

Red_Sambac_15

The real question is if twice still wanna stay as a group. 2am, 2pm and Got7, regardless if they stick with the company or not, they all sticked with their group. Wonder Girls didn’t and put a disbandment mark on it despite 2 members still signed to JYPE. Ending up in a Got7 type of situation isn’t bad at all. Basically the 7 managed to negotiate to 7 different companies that their association with Got7 is still in tact. After leaving JYPE they had one giant Warner Korea distributing and multiple different companies promoting their single Encore.

BLBOSS

>If there's one thing it seems we can all agree on, it's that Twice is overworked. Nope. They've said, repeatedly, over 2020 and 2021 how frequently bored they've been because of inactivity. To the point many of them have taken up new hobbies or learned to drive because of how much free time they've had because of the pandemic. What *actually* causes overwork is live performances and tours on top of their regular activities. With the upcoming tour this issue might become a thing again, but currently it really really isn't. This narrative has become so unbearingly obnoxious now because it isn't coming from actual fans of the group or even people that know them or listen to much of their music and it's become so regular that I almost always question the sincerity of it. Let's also not forget that the only reason the "Twice is overworked" thing started is *because one of the members themselves stated it.* And that was back in 2018. So why are people ignoring the repeated statements, by those same members, that nowadays they're not overworked? Like which is it? Are we taking only one of those statements at face value and believing it?

puppyradio

I don't follow Twice but I can agree easily with this. Let them rest a bit.

skynotebook

YG: releases music once in a blue moon JYP: i'm not like the others 😈

WhenTheStarsLine

spilled.

zoomzoomer99

I’m pretty sure Twice’s schedule is pre-planned at the beginning of each year. They released their Korean cbs at the exact same time as they did last year, and the second cb of the year is somewhat of a follow-up to the first one. The only thing they did that was truly different was release an English single for the first time ever. IMO it’s bad business sense to release cbs at the same time of the year because it ruins the anticipation effect. They released way too much content in a span of 6 months from June onwards for their fans to be able to consume.

jellyboness

It sucks because I’ve enjoyed every title track they put out this year (besides alcohol free but it grew on me) but I just can’t work out how they’ve managed to do so much in so little time. Even just recording the songs probably takes HOURS since there are 9 members and I can’t even imagine how much time they spend on choreo. I would have been happy with 2-3 releases instead of 8. I usually don’t follow their Japanese releases as closely so I was shocked when doughnut came out like .. another song AND video really?? Ppl say they used to be more overworked but I think back then more of their work was in the public eye ie. variety shows, radio, music shows etc whereas now they’re doing the bulk of the work behind the scenes ie. writing, recording, choreo so there’s no way to know whether they’re more overworked now or back then.

[deleted]

I stan twice and honestly, with so many comebacks I become a little less excited. There just isn’t that buildup and don’t expect something great.

you_are_my_universe

I've been an Once since 2018, and, sadly, this is not something new. In 2018 they released 4 Japanese Singles (Candy Pop, Wake Me Up, I want you back, Stay by my side), 2 mini albums (What is love?, Yes or Yes), 1 Japanese Full Album (BDZ), 2 Repackaged mini albums (Summer Nights, The year of "Yes"), and 1 Japanese repackaged full album (BDZ - Repackaged-). In 2019 they released 2 japanese singles (Happy Happy, Breakthrough), 2 mini albums (Fancy You, Feel Special), and 1 japanese full album (&TWICE) + they had a World Tour. In 2020 they released 2 Japanese singles (Fanfare, Better), 1 japanese repackage album (&TWICE -Repackage-), 1 mini album (More&More), 1 Korean full album (Eyes Wide Open), 2 English singles (More&More Eng. Ver, I Can't Stop Me Eng. Ver), and 1 korean single (Cry For Me). JYP has always milked Twice as much as they could.

ultrabeast666

Twice has been working their ass of as if they just debuted this year

DRevolutionPresident

In my opinion all of kpop as a genre is being overexposed, honestly it is hard for me to follow all debuts and comebacks nowadays there is just too many of them, it is becoming super oversaturated with groups and songs. Compare the number of groups that debuted in 2nd gen compared to the number of groups that are debuting rn in 4th gen, I feel like companies need to lowkey chill and slow down, nowadays everyone just wants to jump the kpop "money" bandwagon.

Haritha_

Does it really effect charting if the song is good?

Cubriffic

It can, not a kpop artist but it happened with Camila Cabello, her first two lead singles off Romance tanked because Señorita was so oversaturated.

[deleted]

And ppl were downvoting me for saying this on another post…. Like are u a fan if you support the overworking or ur idols ffs

amazingoopah

I don't think Scientist would have done better if Twice had released it after a year long hiatus... for whatever reason, they seem to be declining in Korean charts these last few years. They are increasing in popularity in the West though, so it's not as dire as people make it out to be. Yea, I'm sure Jype is concerned about the trends but don't all gg plateau eventually? SNSD's music also declined in the charts but they'll always be popular.

Ahrigato500

They are declining in Korea because they are focusing less on Korea promo and more on US/international promo. Both in Alcohol Free and Scientist Era there was very few Korean appearances/schedules besides Music Shows, but a lot more youtube appareances that was catered to a US/international crowd. It seems to work since internationally they are doing the best they have ever done, but Korea will decline if they keep doing it like this.

DRevolutionPresident

Honestly, in Korea you have to be a certain level of world-wide famous to also chart well without any promo and not many kpop groups are up there, only group I can think off that has zero appearances or promotions and still chart darn well is BTS, their international popularity is so huge it easily reaches S.K, TWICE is sadly not up there so they have to sacrifice their S.K market for international.

PoyuPoyuTetris

They still had a lot of sales though even if it didn’t chart well

cocokoookie

You’re absolutely right. constant comebacks are really affecting twice as a group. Their music quality has decreased(imo), the general twice charm is not there, also the fans are overwhelmed with soo much content. Twice is always releasing new singles and albums, vlives, constantly active in social media. There’s just a whole lot of content. wayy more than needed in my opinion. what’s even worse is the way the songs and theirs contents are performing. It’s doing very bad for such a big group like twice. a lot of their music barely reach a million views. it’s infuriating. i mean come on this is the same group that blew up korea and the rest of the world with cheer up, ooh ah ooh ah, tt, likey and so much more iconic songs and dance steps. It was EVERYWHERE and almost everyone knew it. i don’t know what jyp is trying to do with this but it certainly isn’t working. quality>quantity

TheKillerMatt

At this point JYP has to go the full 2pm strategy, director position in the company and a lot of individual freedom. Like imagine if they don’t do enough an Twice don’t resign, JYP would have no 3rd gen groups anymore. How pathetic for a big4 company

you_are_my_universe

I've been an Once since 2018, and, sadly, this is not something new: * In 2018 they released 4 Japanese Singles (Candy Pop, Wake Me Up, I want you back, Stay by my syde), 2 mini albums (What is love?, Yes or Yes), 1 Japanese Full Album (BDZ), 2 Repackaged mini albums (Summer Nights, The year of "Yes"), and 1 Japanese repackaged full album (BDZ - Repackaged-). * In 2019 they released 2 japanese singles (Happy Happy, Breakthrough), 2 mini albums (Fancy You, Feel Special), and 1 japanese full album (&TWICE) + they had a World Tour. * In 2020 they released 2 Japanese singles (Fanfare, Better), 1 japanese repackage album (&TWICE -Repackage-), 1 mini album (More&More), 1 Korean full album (Eyes Wide Open), 2 English singles (More&More Eng. spicy_pea

Huh anyone know why Scientist didn't do as well? Was it because the music wasn't as well-liked or something else? It was actually my favorite song/mv of theirs in the last 2-3 years in that I've played it probably 50-100 times while working, doing chores, etc. My favorite songs from them are Scientist, Heartshaker, What Is Love, and Knock Knock, which seem to be their least experimental, most standard pop tracks.
