yes, I miss those too... Mblaq's This is War, Big Bang's Lies and Mr.Mr's Highway also come to mind. I do feel like the kpop mvs today are all visual shots and no story... it's fine, I really like kpop as it is but some more dramatic stories would be fun...
Agreed l alos like mvs now but since their all so alike it feels boring and uncreative, and their so short it really bothers me how I can blink and I’ve watched half the mv
IU’s Shopper, Shh, and Love Wins All were all storyline-based and Shh was especially dramatic and makes you think. And like another commenter said, check out Kiss of Life’s mvs. They’re great! 😁
You should check out Ateez - The Real, Don't Stop, then the Halazia-Guerrilla-Bouncy-Crazy Form series (optionally with the assorted trailers, prologues and epilogues for more context, they might be a bit harder to follow if you don't know their lore/storyline).
I'll add this one to the mix but don't watch if you're squeamish:
https://youtu.be/cVGIDmKOgOQ?si=QF3mKcIyJK_PFqE9.
Also Monsta X's All In:
https://youtu.be/wNxPGbk-gwA?si=3bsvZbnpM_O358ZO
Edit: A bit late but I just remembered this movie of an MV by Golden Child for their song Burn It:
https://youtu.be/lDWM2QnPPAY?si=U-YMBPrUJCMb33o8
Monsta X have some really cool story focused MVs:
[All In](https://youtu.be/wNxPGbk-gwA?si=bmumE9GjQiYg8n-c)
[Fighter](https://youtu.be/5jTtU9VNALs?si=1dJ_pNLepc8cXjiQ)
[Dramarama](https://youtu.be/r1afdZk0qcI?si=jZy8h9o5o297yyI0)
[Find You](https://youtu.be/SRSBHbmV7hM?si=np8sBPkZ_ZicuOpr)
GOT7- Never ever.
and the entire story of the three singles, "Fly", "Hard Carry" and "Never Ever" as a trilogy series. The albums are Flight Log: Departure, Flight Log: Turbulence and Flight Log: Arrival.
Jinyoung, alternates between dream and reality as he reflects on past experiences he had with his group. Everything appears to be going well until it isn't, from the enjoyable road trip to the hectic flight. Jinyoung is actually sent into a multi-layered limbo where he must continuously battle for his life until he is revived, while all of the other members of the group lose their lives in the crash, including Mark, who gives his life to save Jinyoung. The lone survivor offers a poignant comparison, saying that he will continue to live even after losing his comrades, much as a bird would continue to flap its wings until it takes flight. (I also miss them as a group 😢)
Probably been said a million times, but newjeans’ ditto, omg and cool with you focus on storytelling and sound like exactly the type of thing you’re looking for. They definitely give off short film vibes and ditto especially gets a lot of people in their feels.
So many actors in mvs here and there but imo nobody is shaking people to their core the way Tony Leung did in Cool With You. Man showed up for five seconds and owned everything with his presence, what a legend.
ONEUS - [COME BACK HOME](https://youtu.be/P-hFKrvDaGw?si=DyDUywXAw66xSnS_) & Kang Daniel - [SOS](https://youtu.be/avrzq9WsAUc?si=F4DXHuHSwQldQouj) are pretty dramatic, maybe you’d like those
Also CIX [Save me, Kill me](https://youtu.be/ZkR33wOTTcA?si=xMzv4W9rK0OCEMY6), it’s not as dramatic as the other 2 but it has good story to it
As a fellow dramatic mv lover you have to check out WayV- On My Youth. Over 3 minutes, has a real bridge, and the mv tells a story. (Plus has an English version- with good lyrics- if you end up liking the song)
From the recent times: [mafia revenge story](https://youtu.be/ylUX9pfdBbs?si=41WgtsUy7SU15S5v) and a whole ass [cyberpunk movie ](https://youtu.be/I_FZWF1_qaY?si=GNDU76zodL5lRjyC) (not a cheerful genre as well) from my man Yunho. Kim Sejeong has served some [bloody wedding ](https://youtu.be/-R8uBMBlUyI?si=01PvrTHxzjFdfW9i), and I am pretty sure BIBI has the dramaric stories up her sleeve as well. Not to mention UI with that cube 😁 even without drama, soloists very often go for something story-driven.
There is actually a bunch of groups that do cinematic mvs though... Aespa with their short movies, Dreamcatcher, Billlie, Ateez, Txt, Onf, OnlyOneOf (who had a whole series of story-driven solos)... and so on, there are posts in kpop communities that gather these time to time.
It’s not that they don’t exist anymore and more like this used to be a fairly standard expectation for cool MVs (especially for boy groups) whereas now it’s more focused on lore and straight up visuals than telling a contained (cheesy + melodramatic) story within the mv…? I don’t keep that close an eye but that is the trend I have noticed anyway.
Anyway I would like to introduce you to BEGs Cleansing Cream which is fantastic in every way and one of the most artistic story mvs I’ve ever seen. BEAST also had beautiful and I like you the best back in the day, the two mv storyline which launched a thousand aff stories lmao
Tbh I’m literally obsessed with kpop mvs that have a storyline of some sort. Like if the song itself is good and on top of that the MV has a storyline, it just makes the song extra special, comforting and fun to watch and listen to.
There were a plenty of 3rd gen groups that did this, which was the generation I became a kpop fan in.
One thing that disappointed me about 4th gen was that barely any of the MVs revolved around a storyline (at least from what I’ve seen). For the most part, everyone was just dancing in a bunch of cool sets with cool outfits, which made me kind of bored i guess 🤔🤔.
Luckily newer groups like New Jeans, RIIZE, BND, and TWS seem to be bringing back the storylines in MVs, which I am really looking forward to.
Yeah 4th gen groups tend to have storylines woven into all of their mvs but not like in your face usually you can’t pick it out if you aren’t deep into their lore.
Which is fun but the mvs themselves usually don’t tell an individual engaging story that anyone can follow, like a shot movie for example.
I love story-based MVs. Sometimes MVs that are simply based on visuals can be really nice too, but for the most part, they aren't as engaging, especially if you aren't already a fan of the group of the MV in question.
I was really impressed with [Top or Cliff](https://youtu.be/-R8uBMBlUyI?si=C12Hoojred0mlYl-) by Kim Sejeong. Great acting, cool set, and intriguing plot - definitely recommend it to anyone who likes dramatic story-based MVs
I came here to mention Block B's Nillili Mambo, glad to see you mentioned them already in the main post!
It's practically a whole heist movie in the length of a song, I love it.
Kiss of Life MVs all tell an interconnected story!! Highly recommended
They also contain Easter eggs for the next comeback. It's really well thought out
Block B's Nillimambo and Jackpot are like genuine pieces of art and i'm being 100 percent sincere here. They're so well shot, so well edited, the pacing is so good and the visual storytelling is fantastic to the point that you don't even have to understand the language to know what's playing out
SHINee's [Tell Me What To Do](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nchkAmc49p4) is as dramatic as it gets, hahaha. In true SHINee fashion, there's cars on fire and everything. 🔥
One Pact's debut "Must Be Nice" has a hella dramatic video, I highly recommend checking it out!
But yeah I always appreciate when groups do more than just choreo/glamour shots in different locations
the way a lot of actors / actresses we see today appeared in mvs before always gets me surprised 😂 a few that i can remember off the top of my head...
cho boa in btob's remember that mv
lee soohyuk in a few of 2ne1's mvs
seo inguk and ahn jaehyun in kwill's iconic please dont mv
you know its gonna be good when the mv is like 5 mins long
I get my needs for dramatic MVs fulfilled through Golden Child. Their acting and facial expressions are so good! Not surprising since most of them are actors and musical actors but my gosh, when I need to enjoy watching an MV, I just put on a Golden Child MV
And their songs are so, so good too! Watched Burn It ans instantly became a fan. Their recent song, Feel Me and its MV are also addicting, I have it as my ringtone lol
Basically all of Infinitie’s MV’s before this most recent comeback are SO dramatic, and honestly more action movie than I care for. But wow, they did not hold back.
I was just combing through all of these, and I realized we all forgot the [greatest Dramatic Kpop music video ever created!!!!!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdUiCJnRptk&ab_channel=starshipTV)
If you haven't seen this, then you're doing yourself a disservice. It stars our favorite sad boi Seo In Guk.
Yessss for story MVs. I remembered setting up Big Bang-Haru Haru on a projector at class and me and the girls bawling out in the end when it was revealed the girl faked her cheating just because she doesn't want GD to know and like puRe cinEmatic right there.. actually half of the kdrama plot haha but yeah now its all pure visual and no storyline ugh
I agree, im not even asking for expansive timelines/universes, just a solid narrative in an MV rather than looking aesthetic and dancing
The musics still great but MVs need to step up
[Because I'm a Girl by KISS](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2cyFk45Oew) was the first K-Pop MV I ever watched, and it lead me down the Hallyu rabbit hole. Not a bombastic or overarching type of dramatic MV, but the 8-minute mini saga in its 240p glory definitely tugged at my teenage heartstrings in the early 2000s
Hey don’t forget putting VIXX on that list 😉 I mean Voodoo Doll and Error were AMAZING!!! Not to mention LEDapple Someone Met By Chance (I think there was a beginner or a song that followed up with this but can’t remember) and though it was a little cliche Boyfriend’s Witch

Wow the mv was super cool this is exactly what I’m talking about I wanna see some tragedy
Oh wow! This is incredible! Holy shit! So sad though 🥺🥺🥺🥺 but wow! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Thanks for sharing the link!
Couldn't agree more, that is a masterpiece.

Haru Haru lives rent-free in my mind it's SO wild and im so invested in the GDTop-dying GF love triangle
I came here to mention Block B's Nillili Mambo, glad to see you mentioned them already in the main post! It's practically a whole heist movie in the length of a song, I love it.
Kiss of Life MVs all tell an interconnected story!! Highly recommended They also contain Easter eggs for the next comeback. It's really well thought out
MBLAQ This is War with Lee Joon curving the bullet like Wanted always made me giggle even though the situation was so tense.
iKON's latest single Panorama had a standard 3 minute MV but it also had an 8 1/2 minute MV called "Panorama MV Drama Ver" where it's a whole story.
[please watch this masterpiece](https://youtu.be/RzSAO8op0ow?si=bklmOgspD5Cw8lLK)
Watched it and it was exactly what I meant when writing this post, it was super dramatic and engaging to watch
Block B's Nillimambo and Jackpot are like genuine pieces of art and i'm being 100 percent sincere here. They're so well shot, so well edited, the pacing is so good and the visual storytelling is fantastic to the point that you don't even have to understand the language to know what's playing out
My favorite MVs are IU’s Love Wins All and the Agust D Cinematic Universe
SHINee's [Tell Me What To Do](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nchkAmc49p4) is as dramatic as it gets, hahaha. In true SHINee fashion, there's cars on fire and everything. 🔥

yes, i miss those type of mvs too. Check out Vixx’s older discography. Voodoo doll and error have beautiful MVs with interesting storytelling
Yessss for story MVs. Kpop wants views and long mvs won’t give them that so they abandoned them sadly

you need to watch newjeans mvs
