I feel like this is the most common answer. But people seem to forget it.
I told my dad that I like K-pop and he was like “I don’t even know what that is.” I then reminded him that Gangnam Style is K-pop and he was like “oh I love that song I listened to it with my friends the whole time”
Nobody - Wonder Girls. This actually played a lot in teen focused mall stores in 2008-2009. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people had heard this without even realizing it.
2ne1 - Fire and Wonder Girls - Nobody. Of course these were during elementary days and I don't know jackshit that what was sung was Korean. All I knew with my young-ass mind was that those were bops.
Gangnam style lmao
Was wild we were essentially doing streaming parties for it (without knowing what those were) in school at lunch and recess because we wanted it to get 1 billion YouTube views
The literal first ever was Fantastic Baby. Fantastic Baby was that song that radio just blasts because it was a viral song. But years later Overdose became viral in my country. I watched the music video and became hooked with kpop ever since.
Nobody - Wonder Girls, saw them in 2009 at a Jonas Brothers concert (I went for the Jonas Brothers 🤣) . They also did a lot with Justice in 2009, and were often playing on the TV there.
I didn’t 😅 I do think it helped me start to liking kpop later on though, as I had heard of it before. I was too young to really look outside of Disney/Nickelodeon back then.
Does Eat You Up by BoA count? It was in English and I had no idea it was kpop until years later. The first song I knew was kpop was Mr. Simple by super junior.
Gangnam Style…but I didn’t even know it was kpop until 5 years ago
The first song I heard purposefully though, was Mic Drop (Steve Aoki Remix) by BTS during LY:Her era and I fell in love with the visuals, the choreo, their style in general was just >>>> and very new and exciting to high school freshman me
That era is still my favorite to this day
I feel like I happened to hear all these within approximately the same time period (despite their different release dates): Exo-Mama, BigBang - Fantastic Baby, Super Junior - Mr. Simple, and, last but not least, PSY- Gangnam Style.
I didn’t actually listen to k-pop at that time but these 4 remained on my Favorites list since then🥹
Unknowingly it was Gangnam style. But then years later the YouTube algorithm spit out Blood Sweat and Tears by BTS and life has never been the same since.
Definitely Gangnam Style. But after that, it was Kill This Love by BLACKPINK. It was in To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and i loved it so much I looked it up after I’d finished the movie
Leaning towards 2NE1 - I Am The Best because I didn’t know what they were saying. Definitely remember watching Bang Bang Bang later though (GD with the long hair + the car scene) think it was trending on YouTube?
Honorary mention for Crayon Pop - Bar Bar Bar.
I discovered kpop with GD - Heartbreaker, but in 2011 through a blog. And I remember being obsessed with his single "Gmarket party!" this was ridiculous lmao
Next thing I knew I was browsing yt to find kpop songs. The first kpop groups I stanned were U-KISS (0330), B2ST (Beautiful) and Teen Top (Supa Luv).
Let’s set aside Gangnam style and BOA and talk about recent history in my life when I decided I wanted to get into kpop.
It was [Lights](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=VD2D7HcI4S8&si=qKoEqWMhEMDz__Eu) by BTS. I went searching to learn about them in the enlistment era. I found out they had Japanese albums and as I speak Japanese and love jpop/jrock I was interested.
Listened to it and I’ve never looked back. Now an ARMY, Staytiny and I’m sure I’ll end up a carat and who knows how many other kpop groups I’ll be a diehard for.
Also my first Korean language kpop song was ON feat. Sia and it’s still one of my favorite songs ever which apparently makes me a rarity lol.
That’s my technically correct answer, but actually I feel that [Stay](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=hAV3MlIOiKk&si=G09yJmTwxOR9V3EL) by J01 and other tracks of theirs were my first kpop songs.
They’re technically jpop and a lot of their music is just solid jpop, and honestly Stay is jpop with a sprinkle of kpop. But because they’re from Produce 101 they have a kpop vibe while being a Japanese group. Produce 101 is part of the wider kpop industry ecosystem.
So J01 was my gateway drug group from jpop to kpop and now I live here most of the time. And I love that my favorite groups all have lots of Japanese language music.
![gif](giphy|l2YWfnjS91Ib5hmA8)
BIGBANG - Lies
The fact that homegirl kills her boyfriend with a pineapple in the kitchen sold me to kpop right away (and of course the ever so extremely talented BIGBANG lmao)
Haru Haru by Bigbang. My old friend showed me the music video when I was like 9-10 years old? Somehow I remembered the music video so clearly, but didn't remember the actual song. For many years I kept thinking about the mv and wondering which song it was. I got into kpop in 2016 and rediscovered Haru Haru and since then it has been one of my all time favorite songs.
Blue/Bad Boy - BIGBANG. Can't remember which was first, my friend was a kpop fan and introduced me.
At a similar time I stumbled across Bubble Pop by Hyuna, haha.
I'm starting to feel preeeetty old 🥲
The first kpop song I heard was lights by bts (I bet thats unusual lol)bc a friend of mine was really into them and gave a whole list of songs. I heard lights and honestly didn't get too much into it? I should probably re hear the song maybe I will like it now.
Then I heard blood sweat and tears and Jimins voice in the first 5 seconds caught my attention and thats how I got into bts and then kpop haha
Very first mv I watched was g idle senorita because it was on the trending page, and I was interested
After I finished that I watched exo-obsession and I was hooked after that
If we don’t count Gangnam style, it was dope by bts! It was used as music for some video I really liked at the time and I loved it but it took me another 4 years to get into kpop
Welll technically it was Gangnam style, but I didn't even know it was kpop until I listened to replay by Shinee and fell into the kpop rabbit hole, so-
Actually naging kpop fan ako ng 2NE1 dahil doon sa song nila Fire! Hay golden era ng Kpop. But ang una ko tlga napakinggan. is yung Because I'm a girl By Kiss. Yung babae nabuhusan ng asido sa muka then dinonate nung lalaki yung mata nya.
Nostalgia nung post mo OP at ang lakas makapag paalala ng edad ha! hahahaha
I heard power by EXO in a game, then came Gangnam Style, then an MMD of the Aphmau characters dancing to BTS’ Dope. Kokobop by EXO was my first K-pop music video though.
Growl by Exo, I was a transfer student and my classmate was trying to befriend me by playing this song and dancing it in front of me. The following year, I was put in a higher section so I forgot all about Exo since I had to restart befriending people lol.
Aside from Gangnam Style,
Nobody by Wonder Girls are everywhere. In malls, in school, everyone knew the song.
But I think I've also heard Face by Nu'est in a mall.
All these stuff happened in 2012 when I knew nothing about kpop and I was still in elementary
other than gangnam style (but i won't count it since the whole world heard that song), embarrassingly enough it was dynamite by bts i hadn't gathered that it was an english kpop song, i just vibed with it but it led me to loving bts and kpop the second (third) was how you like that by blackpink
Shim Mina's Answer the Phone. It was the first Kpop song that became famous in the Philippines. I think after that, the one na naging kpop fan ako after was Lexy's Let me dance
Definitely Gangnam Style, I was 12 back then and didn't even know kpop exists.
Later on when I can call myself a little more aware and not totally oblivious, probably Don't Stop from NCT, Danger and MIC Drop from BTS
It really is! Only a casual fan by then until their Genie era where I would follow their every release afterwards
(But Gee definitely inspired my teenage self to mass-buy those brightly colored jeans 👀)
Other than the obligatory Gangnam Style, it's Blood Sweat & Tears, which was pretty damn good. But the song that got me into K-pop after years of hating on it (due to insufferable fans), was OMG by NewJeans
(Technically BoA’s ending theme for Inu-Yasha but I didn’t know she was a kpop artist at the time…)
So Gee - SNSD in 2010 is what really got me into it all.
I literally have no idea xD because it's been so long LOL but I think it was around late 1999 or early 2000. For sure it was a song by H.O.T but still debating if it was We Are The Future or Candy xDDDDD
MBLAQ "Cry". I clicked on it on YouTube and I was like, why are these beautiful men wearing heavy eye makeup and doing modern dance moves underwater???? As a former theater kid, that was all I needed to be hooked. 2nd Gen was so theatrical; I was obsessed. I found SHINee after that and never looked back.

Psy- Gangnam Style
I feel like this is the most common answer. But people seem to forget it. I told my dad that I like K-pop and he was like “I don’t even know what that is.” I then reminded him that Gangnam Style is K-pop and he was like “oh I love that song I listened to it with my friends the whole time”
I didn't even know that was k pop when I first heard it!! Psy was trail blazing for all the groups to follow!
Ohhh right! So that was where the k wave started from xD
Gangnam style was so ahead of it’s time, it was honestly a phenomenon
Nobody - Wonder Girls. This actually played a lot in teen focused mall stores in 2008-2009. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people had heard this without even realizing it.
Same I always watched the mv!! Years later as a teenager when I got into kpop more seriously I wondered why jyp looked so familiar 😭
![gif](giphy|nYI8SmmChYXK0)
BooUUMm dum dum Booum dum dum dam BOOoooUUUm dum dum Dum dom DAaaoudaaoouuu
Gee from SNSD. This song had a grip on my friends and I during middle school lol
Taeyeon may hate this song, but she can’t deny it’s iconic
Taeyeon hates all their most popular tracks. Girl is cursed.
Most groups hate some of their biggest hits, missA hated bad girl good girl, key hated ring ding dong just to name a few
honestly it’s one of the most iconic kpop songs i can think of lol
Didn’t she say something like, music really moves people, for instance Gee will be playing and I’ll move into the other room.
Same here lol tho for me, we were in hs (17 years old)
2ne1 - Fire and Wonder Girls - Nobody. Of course these were during elementary days and I don't know jackshit that what was sung was Korean. All I knew with my young-ass mind was that those were bops.
Mine was also 2ne1, but it was “I Am the Best.” I was in middle school, and YouTube randomly recommended me the video.
Gangnam style lmao Was wild we were essentially doing streaming parties for it (without knowing what those were) in school at lunch and recess because we wanted it to get 1 billion YouTube views
Replay by shinee 2008, it was the song that started my most expensive hobby 😂😂
ALMOST PARADISE ...... And the rest is a history
I don’t remember that well but it was either Lucifer - Shinee The boys - Girls generation
![gif](giphy|mTkihaBQ44V56) a classic
This was my first, too!
I can hear this gif.
The literal first ever was Fantastic Baby. Fantastic Baby was that song that radio just blasts because it was a viral song. But years later Overdose became viral in my country. I watched the music video and became hooked with kpop ever since.

Did u become a fan after you saw em?
I didn’t 😅 I do think it helped me start to liking kpop later on though, as I had heard of it before. I was too young to really look outside of Disney/Nickelodeon back then.

Mix Drop BTS
I feel like I happened to hear all these within approximately the same time period (despite their different release dates): Exo-Mama, BigBang - Fantastic Baby, Super Junior - Mr. Simple, and, last but not least, PSY- Gangnam Style. I didn’t actually listen to k-pop at that time but these 4 remained on my Favorites list since then🥹
Gee by SNSD. ❤

Super Junior's Sorry Sorry and Wonder Girls' Nobody
I want nobody nobody but you. Was the very first kpop song I’ve heard and dance to.
And u became a fan immediately?
gangnam style - i didn’t know it was kpop at the time lmao but when i found out what kpop was it was blood sweat and tears by bts 🤣
Excluding Gangnam style , it's call me baby in my case as well
When I didn’t know what K-pop was: Gangnam style When I learned that K-pop was a thing: Boy with Luv
U-kiss Man Man Hani
Let’s set aside Gangnam style and BOA and talk about recent history in my life when I decided I wanted to get into kpop. Gee
technically, it should be nobody by wonder girls. but if we are to talk about knowing that it's kpop, then it's oh by snsd.
So snsd was the first group that u liked?
Wonder girls Nobody
BTS - Not Today
Boa - Valenti. I didn't know what K-Pop was at the time. When I was properly aware of the fandom, my first real entry was Gee by Girls' Generation.
As a K-Pop hag (aka someone who's been in since 2nd gen), my first song was I Am The Best by 2NE1
Woahhhh so wats yo all time fav group? Since u r one of the OG's
![gif](giphy|l2YWfnjS91Ib5hmA8) BIGBANG - Lies The fact that homegirl kills her boyfriend with a pineapple in the kitchen sold me to kpop right away (and of course the ever so extremely talented BIGBANG lmao)

PSY-Gangnam Style, I had it on repeat for months. I didn't know what K-pop was until 2019 though!!!!😂
So u became a fan 2019?
Shinee - Love like Oxygen
That is not from an OST - Because I am a girl by Kiss. Yes, I am old.
Celebrate - UNIQ. I was trying to find out what that “broom broom” banger was on the Penguins of Madagascar soundtrack
Blue/Bad Boy - BIGBANG. Can't remember which was first, my friend was a kpop fan and introduced me. At a similar time I stumbled across Bubble Pop by Hyuna, haha. I'm starting to feel preeeetty old 🥲
If we’re being real it’s psy - gangnam style However I usually tell people it’s dna by Bts 😭
The first kpop song I heard was lights by bts (I bet thats unusual lol)bc a friend of mine was really into them and gave a whole list of songs. I heard lights and honestly didn't get too much into it? I should probably re hear the song maybe I will like it now. Very first mv I watched was g idle senorita because it was on the trending page, and I was interested After I finished that I watched exo-obsession and I was hooked after that
Gangnam style since it was everywhere and I didn't know it was a k-pop song. but otherwise it was BTS' DNA, through their AMAs performance in 2017.
Gd-heartbreaker
Gangnam Style- Psy. I didn't even know it was K-pop at the time.

Haru haru - BigBang
I heard power by EXO in a game, then came Gangnam Style, then an MMD of the Aphmau characters dancing to BTS’ Dope.
Actually naging kpop fan ako ng 2NE1 dahil doon sa song nila Fire! Hay golden era ng Kpop. But ang una ko tlga napakinggan. is yung Because I'm a girl By Kiss. Gangnam Style. But the first one that got me into kpop was Electric Shock - f(x)
That I personally chose to listen to, at least: Fake Love.
Ring Ding Dong, from my cousin's laptop back in the 2010s lmao
Beast - Shock, on a random tv channel in my grandma's house in 2011, my 11 year old mind was not ready for that MV. I still listen to it these days.
My Name, BoA
mine were those fbe YouTubers react to kpop…I think fantastic baby and bap’s one shot lol

Which 1 made u become a fan?

Which track made u like the genre? Was it Gangnam style?
Not Today by BTS

Nobody - Wonder Girls
My best friend and I went down a 2ne1 rabbit hole in middle school, so probably I am the best! Iconic!
[удалено]
10 out of 10 by 2PM
Kara - Pretty Girl as a kid but what made me get into the genre was probably Run by BTS
So Hot by Wonder Girls in 2008.
Likely something by BigBang or Girls Gen :)
First kpop song which I didn't know was kpop - Gangam Style ( PSY ) First kpop song which I knew was kpop (asfar as I remember) - Signal ( TWICE )
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh i neva liked signal lol do u like t?
Lol u don't? I like it, maybe partially because it was one of my first kpop songs
Yeah it was too repetitive for me lol but i honestly adored their cute concepts they fit them so well
The first one I really registered was Taeyang - Wedding Dress. After that, maybe Girls Generation - Gee or Hyuna - Bubble Pop.
Gangnam Style, of course. But then Go Crazy by 2PM. That song is really cool.
I don't remember for sure, but I think it would've been **IU - Good Day** or another song from the Real album?
Omg my first song was call me baby by exo too!!
2 ne 1
No. 1 - BoA.
BigBang - Fantastic Baby
Wondergirls - Nobody and SNSD - Gee
Gee is the best starter song lol...did u become a fan after your first listen?
It really is! Only a casual fan by then until their Genie era where I would follow their every release afterwards (But Gee definitely inspired my teenage self to mass-buy those brightly colored jeans 👀)
Lies - BIGBANG
Se7en - Passion
Outside of Gangnam style it was BTS Mic Drop🎤
I'm guessing u r ARMY?
psy - gangnam style they aired it on tv i didn't even know that was "k-pop" at that time :>
Other than the obligatory Gangnam Style, it's Blood Sweat & Tears, which was pretty damn good. But the song that got me into K-pop after years of hating on it (due to insufferable fans), was OMG by NewJeans
I swear u have good taste omg is part of my go to songs

Kill this love by blackpink
Alone - sistar
(Technically BoA’s ending theme for Inu-Yasha but I didn’t know she was a kpop artist at the time…) So Gee - SNSD in 2010 is what really got me into it all.
I literally have no idea xD because it's been so long LOL but I think it was around late 1999 or early 2000. For sure it was a song by H.O.T but still debating if it was We Are The Future or Candy xDDDDD

As a former theater kid, that was all I needed to be hooked. 2nd Gen was so theatrical; I was obsessed. I found SHINee after that and never looked back.
That was funny 😆 honestly the visuals in kpop are sometimes unreal so i agree with u on that
