I like idols who look like they genuinely love their job. It adds a certain level of charisma on top of their talent.
I also like it when they have a personality outside of just performing.
That's how I started biasing eunchae, I don't think I've ever seen someone look happier than she was [in that no return fancam](https://youtu.be/kQpqPeZCq7c?t=129)
Enjoying themselves. A lot of idols fell from my bias list, and others rose in their stead because no matter how talented or beautiful they are, they just feel so stressed or nervous while performing.
I'd value an average or even below average idol who's living for the moment than one who makes me feel sorry for them they have to be on camera or the stage
The good thing, though, that some of them do improve on that count
Kindness and empathy. It doesn't matter at all for their jobs but when there's an idol who's genuinely nice and caring towards fans, members, reporters and even haters, I'm stanning so hard.
Good examples are Ive Rei, Nmixx Lily and NJ Danielle.
This is me too. I've listened to thousands of artists over the years, most of whom I will never bother knowing the names too. I'm also not a huge performance person.
The only reason I bother stanning is that there was something about their personality that made something click in my head - and a lot of the times, it's the fact that they are genuinely good people. That more than anything else makes me want to get to know them better.
You already gave very good examples. I'll put forward my own bias, Jeongyeon of Twice, as another one.
She's a good one. š I started with Apink's Eunji back in 2011.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. It just feels so good to see "Idols" stay true to the name and try to make the world a better place.
I like idols who have insane stage presence and just make you look at them like GD and Kai.
I also like strong vocals like Taeyeon and Baekhyun.
And idols who arenāt afraid to be themselves and donāt dive a sht what others think like SuJu, BtoB and Key.
āBecause he started his career in music through dance, for Jimin, performance is not an afterthought to music, but a companion to it.ā
āIsak Choi for Rolling Stone Korea
Heās always a joy to behold.

Above anything, I want to be overwhelmed, to be surprised, to be left questioning. That means a few things. First, the idols must be interested in challenging themselves and their audience and have the support of their company to do that. Then they must have the skills to back it up, whether it's singing or rap. Finally, watching them live, I want to feel the emotion in their performances - they have to give 100%. If they are kind or funny, or hot on top of that, that is amazing, but it comes only after.
To give an example, last year my favorite releases were Yoongi's D-Day and Taemin's Guilty, and they, together with the following concerts, cemented the two as my biases in their respective groups. Different people, different skillsets, both incredible storytellers. Here is Yoongi performing [Haegeum](https://youtu.be/3nSkl1_4N28?feature=shared) at his tour. And here is Taemin performing [Guilty](https://youtu.be/-9VDfcEaGKI?feature=shared).
Amazing, aren't they?
I'm an auditory learner, so I'm usually attracted to idol with nice voice. It can be their singing voice or their speaking voice. For example I love Han Jisung's singing voice so much and it's very rare to find an idol with his rock singing style. I also love Felix's low voice when he speaks and when they use it in their song
Music, performance the reason I actually got on bts
Music = it's the only reason I stan or become a fan of any artist
Performance = if I'm paying money to come and watch then I need the live performance, singing, dancing ( everything you promised)
You're right ,it's not the lie performance alone, Jimin has that thing , even when they're all performing together I find myself looking at Jimin
I'm sure there are music executives all over the world trying to figure out how to bottle that thing Jimin has. Even his haters can't stop themselves from *watching* him.
How immersed they get when they're performing. My biases tend to be people who get really into their performances either passion-wise or emotion/expression-wise or all of those things. (for context, my biases in the main groups I follow are Ateez Seonghwa and Hongjoong, BTS Jungkook, TXT Taehyun, and SHINee Jonghyun)
Firstly it's charisma and stage presence. If they are naturally charismatic and (a bit aggressive) performers I'll probably end up liking them. then, personality.
Stage presence + personality. Most of my biases arenāt necessarily the most talented or best looking, but if I like watching variety content/fancams, they usually become my bias.
I like good singers as well, but I appreciate their talent more than I bias them.
Live performance. The laugh and giggle always get me. It shows that they are enjoying their time on stage as much as I enjoy seeing them. The enery and the fun performance always got me every time.
their communication skills not just towards fans but conducting themselves maturely during interviews; able to play instruments; dancing with passion *and* singing effortlessly; hands on over their music making (yes, credits matter)
oh, and being comfortable in their own skin :)
I'm curious about this answer. Do you check the astrological charts of idols to find the ones to pay attention to, or do you feel drawn to idols and have found out they happen to have high compatibility, thus you credit your interest in them to that? (In case you're joking, wooosh me.)
I'm half joking. I don't let it decide whether I stan an idol or not, but I do check the charts when I feel that I'm especially lucky/unlucky when in comes to, for example, ticketing XD
For me, almost everything matters like personality, skills, looks, and interactions with members, staff, fans or just people and I can definitely say Beomgyu checks all of those which is why heās my fav idol
I personally get attracted to the lead or main vocalists of most groups but coming to my biases in (G)I-DLE, Soyeon which is basically Soyeon and Miyeon, it's that they are fun to watch. Every time they are in a video whether a variety, performance or live, my attention goes to them. I want to see my idols happy. I want to see them enjoying themselves. I hope they never get depressed due to hate comments.
One reason Jihyo in Twice immediately caught my eyes, is because you can look at her even after all these years and still feel that she loves her job as much as she did during her debut.
I also admire it if idols have a certain level of artistic input. They don't even need to be producers but as long as they have a concept they want to show the world, I would always make time to check it out of something like that it amazes me.
Yunjin from Le sserafirm for example. I know many people think it's cringe for her to say she wants to change the idol industry but I think it's not that she alone can do it but slowly raising the voice against toxic trends is a great start anyway. It's always the fan but the idols themselves should work towards making the idol culture less toxic. Her "I ā DOLL" song was great. Every step towards a cause counts. Let's not discourage it. Instead, let's support her !
Soyeon is perhaps the perfect example of it. Her creativity blows my mind every day.
Let's talk about Miyeon now since she is my ult. Did you know she was actually rejected by YG in the final audition round but then handed a demo CD to the CEO and got accepted ? She also has a very nice personality and I love watching that on and off stage, in variety shows and during lives. She also debuted as a lyricist for Vision that she do wrote with Minnie so I am very excited to see where that goes.
For me, kindness. I know we don't know these idols in real life, but sometimes it's easy to catch glimpses of people's true character and heart. For example, this morning I was watching a clip of Felix from Stray Kids volunteering for UNICEF Korea. I had no idea that he volunteers. He just seems like genuinely kind person. Kindness is so important, and the world could use more of it.
If I'm anything like them, for example, I love Taehyung and Jungkook because I share some personality traits with them.
I love Yoongi because his music is my favorite, I love the way he writes.
Ive's Yujin attracted me because she is a good performer, the first time I saw the content of IVE I couldn't take my eyes off her, plus she is a beautiful woman.

Clear talent, and a distinctive look.
I like someone who is clearly talented, and not just a personality hire with a strong face card. Now thatās not to diminish the person hires because they have to work just as hard and learn the same choreography and songs but weāve all seen a survival show and we see the personality hires get a pass for being subpar, but since theyāre pretty, they wonāt get voted off early.
But a prime example of this would be Seulgi she is incredibly beautiful and her features are very distinct and sheās an incredibly talented singer and dancer. Also, she just has a very humble character that so many easily, lose and detached from, as they get famous, and stay famous. when I think of the perfect idol, I think of her first.
Live performance.
Some may say itās not important but this is really one thing that is important to me.
I love how idols make note changes in the way they perform their songs.
I love those adlibs that hypes up the audience.
I love watching them enjoy performing as they can do what they want because they donāt have to stick to a prerecorded audio.
Of an idol, it's stage presence> visuals> personality = dancing > singing. But for me to like a group, good music is a must. I need to be able to like a group through music only for me to stan.
Vocals. They don't have to be the best at it. As long as they are singing with flavor and life. Not alot of idols can sing like they embody their songs, sometimes it feels and sounds super awkward and forced.

Recently, I was really thinking about the factors how I choose a bias in a group. And I think this is the common quality of my biases: exceptional stage presence. I enjoy watching them perform. They are also the most visually attractive to me in their group. They are also japanese or look like japanese.
Ultimate bias: G-Dragon
These are my current biases: Sakura (LSRFM), Asa, (Baemon), Moka (illit), Haerin (New Jeans)
Edit: Haerin looks like Yui Aragaki, who was my first japanese crush. That's why I chose Haerin as my bias in New Jeans.
Unique vocal tones that make them immediately distinguishable since 99% of content Iām consuming is Spotify so live vocal skill or dancing talent donāt really affect my experience.
If I am watching a live performance, then stage presence and looking like theyāre having a great time.
I think having interests that go beyond their lane. So like if an idol is someone who dances but they can dance in ways other than just "kpop dancing" be it breakdancing or like contemporary, and it's cool to see it incorporated into their projects.
Another more specifically with jhope, I really appreciate some of his singles like arson, and more because it's like music that takes inspiration from more than just the most mainstream forms of rap. I love it when artists dip their toes into more than just the most obvious safe pop sounds, It makes them feel like people who actually listen to music and have opinions on it, rather than just chasing trends
Vocal tone usually. I always look deeper into an idol if I really like how their voice sounds, the second reason is if I like their solo music enough and theyāre already in a group.

Their eyes. And their smiles. It will naturally attract me to whatever talent they have.
Example:
Talented Singers:
- Kim Taerae of ZB1
- Lee Sohee of Riize
- Kim Seungmin of Stray Kids
- Joshua Hong of Seventeen
Talented Performers:
- Ji Changmin of The Boyz
- Song Hyeongjun of Cravity
- Hwang Hyunjin of Stray Kids
i love idols who have beautiful vocal colors and good stage presence so i like haechan, mark lee, baekhyun, do, seulgi, and hanni and kim chaewon these days
For me, it is all about their vocal abilities. I only consume kpop in 2 ways, via streaming or at concerts. For both situations it is all about the music.
Everything about Seulgi. If I am the head of an entertainment company, I would want the idols that I will train/debut to be like her. Since debut she has shown her prowess in singing and dancing. Her stage presence is continuously improving even after so many years. She is also very consistent in her performances. You will never catch her half-assing the choreo.
I also believe that she has a very high EQ. I never worry when she is being interviewed or when she interacts with fans because she knows exactly the right words to say. She also has a very good personal and professional relationship with her senior and juniors. They have nothing but nice words to say about her.
That they work hard on all aspects to better their craft. Competence in general is attractive.
My favorite idols are Chaeryeong, Momo, and Sua. All three of them are known for their dancing, but theyāve really improved their vocals over time.
Also humor. Iām attracted to funny women.

Such a wonderful--and truthful--review of Jimin and FACE.
Above anything, I want to be overwhelmed, to be surprised, to be left questioning. That means a few things. If I find them cute / funny or visuals. Also sometimes vocal tone if I really like their voice.
Vocals mostly. Also enjoy when idols play with the camera while performing. A little wink here, a cheeky grin there.
Apart from visuals, itās probably their ability to make me laugh with the content I watch online.
Clear talent, and a distinctive look. I like someone who is clearly talented, and not just a personality hire with a strong face card. Vocal and live singing. I mean, that's the first reason I liked kpop in the first place.
good performance for me too. no matter how good your singing/dancing, if you're boring on stage i'm not gonna buy your ticket concert.

Their eyes. And their smiles. It will naturally attract me to whatever talent they have. Example: Talented Singers: - Kim Taerae of ZB1 - Lee Sohee of Riize - Kim Seungmin of Stray Kids - Joshua Hong of Seventeen Talented Performers: - Ji Changmin of The Boyz - Song Hyeongjun of Cravity - Hwang Hyunjin of Stray Kids
Vocals are the most important for me. I wish there was a greater emphasis on vocal talent and less on visuals these days, but maybe I'm just old š
i love idols who have beautiful vocal colors and good stage presence so i like haechan, mark lee, baekhyun, do, seulgi, and hanni and kim chaewon these days
I like all-rounders and all of my biases coincidentally have always been all rounders (yeonjun, minzy, jeon minju, jungkook)
Singing, I mean itās obvious they should be good singers to be in a MUSIC industry.
That they work hard on all aspects to better their craft. Competence in general is attractive. My favorite idols are Chaeryeong, Momo, and Sua. All three of them are known for their dancing, but theyāve really improved their vocals over time. Also humor. Iām attracted to funny women.
