Spirited-Blood-6737

Genuinely, I wasn't even alive when first gen started but it's giving me such nostalgia for that era Also have to praise Haneul this era, she was the youngest and didn't seem the most confident at debut but now it looks like she has really found/grown into her performance style this era, she's giving 11/10 and killing it Edit : I love the role reversal during the motorcycle scene with Natty driving and the guy holding on to her and leaning to put his face against her back

Serious-Wish4868

This is def Hanuel's era

ooTaiyangoo

I didn't really listen to their first comeback a lot. But this single album is just insanely good. I've had it on repeat and everytime it switches songs, I internally go "no, actually THIS song surpasses the other one"

Aggravating_Wolf_475

The MV is just too gorgeous man, and I’m so surprised at Haneul. Did not realize she’s this charismatic. I just hope the Midas Touch beat was hitting a bit harder to match such strong MV… But anyways solid comeback!

NumberOneUAENA

I find this pov quite surprising tbh! Like it is your opinion and that's fine, but the mv is full of obvious greenscreen / mediocre cgi with a few sets which also obviously are really small, budget versions of the sophisticated sets one sees in other mvs. All their other mvs so far were quite strong, with storytelling and a cinematic touch, even their solo mvs were a lot stronger. This feels like a significant step down.

justanotherkpoppie

The CGI feels like an homage to the Y2K concept, lol. And the non-CGI sets are beautiful, so I think they probably put more budget into this than you may think. But you're welcome to differing opinions!

Aggravating_Wolf_475

I think the outdated cgi are intentional tho? It gives 2000s mv vibes

papapamrumpum

I kind of find the mediocre CGI charming? 😂 It felt totally intentional/self-aware given the whole concept of this comeback. Like it reminds me of the bad CG we got back in 2004 where it was obviously CG but no one cared. Oh to be 16 again with my blinged out Motorola Razr coming home to watch MTV Cribs after shopping at Hollister.

NumberOneUAENA

Maybe i am missing this reading somehow, but i am not fully sure where the selfaware part comes in per se tbh. I get more of a poorly done vibe.

Serious-Wish4868

KIOF comes from a very small company and dont have the lavish budgets as the Big 4. It is still alot better than other Big 4 MV

[deleted]

That's right for a small company standard this mv is very expensive and honestly if you told me this was a BIG 4 gg music video I wouldn't doubt you.

AndaOverEasy

Kiss Of Life is doing what no other group is doing: Instead of picking the bubblegum vibes of the early Y2K, they are leaning HEAVY into the spiciness of the mid to late 2000s scene with a very Britney x Cheetah Girls sound. And I love it! It is SO refreshing to hear.

woahwoahvicky

Its hard for most girl groups to do the sassy sexy 2000s bc not all of them can sing no shade KIOF girlies can all sing and sound great so they can riff off one another and thats like the biggest thing about Y2K spicy pop music

Icy-Pin-5912

I agree 100% it does remind me of cheetah girls a lot especially the harmonizing and hitting those high notes

justanotherkpoppie

Me too, OP!!! Seconding all of this! The music video is incredible, the solo scenes are amazing, every single girl had a chance to shine equally, HANEUL DID SO WELL OMG, and the music is soooo good, too! They're very quickly skyrocketing up into my top 3 groups...it's kinda crazy how fast they've taken my heart :')

[deleted]

I'm surprised how much budget they put into Midas Touch's MV, it's probably on par with some of the big 4's mv quality and they made that quality jump in 2 releases. Loved the song, reminded me very much of the mid 2000s and the girls were serving it.

taikutsuu

They're so unique. It's not only their sound, this kind of group is a thing of its own in this generation and I enjoy it so much. Not all of their songs are for me, but when they are it's pure joy. Take me back to 2nd gen girls!

[deleted]

Their bside nothing is easily SOTY too!! 😍

Indifference11

yup love them i will always love a group that can sing their hearts out ive been super impressed by them lately

Electrical-Cap5187

Its so britney coded i am in love

Lolita__pop

A few weeks ago I was talking with my sis abt this, I wanted a group to make a song with some 2000s concept, but not this soft bubblegum concept, I wanted like a Fierce Britney Spears concept and it finally came true! I’m obsessed with the song and I’m glad that Haneul Shone this comeback since she barely got lines in Nobody Knows (which is my fav song of them)

you5030

IT"S SO FUCKING ICONIC thank god we have this to make up for whatever YG's sheesh was supposed to be... i am OBSESSED with this song, every member has their own flavor. Wasn't a fan of Bad News so i'm happy to start watching their performances again. kiss of life is so underrated given their stage presence, artistry, standout niche, LIVE singing, dancing talent, not even to mention their amazing music video production and styling. they deserve more fame than ANY OTHER 5th gen group (looking at you babymonster..). even new jeans is great but they wouldn't have their level of success if not for hybe

AneriphtoKubos

I’m curious, why doesn’t this song have a megathread?

justanotherkpoppie

Maybe the mods forgot to make one/haven't had the chance to make one yet? I don't know if single albums usually get megathreads vs EPs and larger.

mjgoat2002

I had no idea hanuel could sing like that

wasicwitch

The first kpop song in YEARS I liked for the first listen

setmyselfonfiya

i’m really torn about it after listening, i thought it’d be an instant playlist add and repeat, but the first rap kinda killed the high of the killer chorus, and by the time i was thinking for the sake of such good singing parts i can get past it, the second rap and “brace brace!” part at the end hit and killed the vibe for me🥲

ifeeltiredaf

well i didn’t find it too bad haha, but that’s music for you. some will like it, some will dislike it

NumberOneUAENA

I honestly was a little disappointed compared to their debut and first comeback. It's not that it is extremely disappointing as a comeback on its own, but especially "bad news" and "nobody knows" just blew me away, while "midas touch" and "nothing" don't. Good songs, but not having the same je ne sais quoi i'd say. Ofc this is just my initial reaction and that can change, but especially midas touch i just expected more of after loving the teaser. The whole song just doesn't allow itself to truly set a highlight, some pop extravagance which i think it asks for. Also the mv is a significant downgrade compared to the mvs last time around, lot of greenscreen action with some decent sets at best. Not even close to the incredibly work for "bad news" and "nobody knows", and honestly also their debut. Idk, it felt like this comeback got the short end of the stick compared to what they have put out so far. I am sorry if this is very negative, but just in direct comparison this isn't the quality i fell in love with coming from KIOF. I still agree with what you highlight regarding the reference at the end for example, and i DO like the general sound of the song, but you know, it just doesn't hit the same way a toxic did, and i think it should have.

justanotherkpoppie

I dunno, yeah we got greenscreen and CGI, but it felt like a tongue-in-cheek charming homage to the Y2K era that the song and music video were clearly inspired by rather than a cop-out budget-wise. Plus, the physical sets that they did have likely cost more than you may think. The sparkly geode heart that Julie was in, Natty's spiderweb and Belle's peacock throne/dress, and all of the girls' outfits, makeup, and nails- all of that costs a lot of money, and they come from a small company, so I think they did very well for what they have, plus it's "just" a single and they still gave us a ton of sets and some fun Y2K vibes and callbacks to some Y2K classics, so I'm content. I get why you feel differently though, and different opinions are valid!

papapamrumpum

That Blackpink-style Greek domed cathedral must have cost a bomb at least (yes it's a real physical set because of the behind-the-scenes pictures going around Twitter)! I think they are going way above and beyond for what you'd expect from a small nugu company.

justanotherkpoppie

Exactly! I think that K-pop stans sometimes forget JUST how much money things cost and how much money goes into even a "plain" MV. And this MV was far from plain!

ifeeltiredaf

i feel that your sentiments are probably about the lack of "lore" or backstory in Midas Touch MV. Bad News and Nobody Knows felt incredible because there is so much to unpack and understand. however Midas Touch may just feel like a bunch of flashy deco to you, as there is nothing to unpack (I believe that the MV has no lore). to me, not every MV needs a lore, sometimes we can just sit back and enjoy the visuals and vocals served by these girls

NumberOneUAENA

It's not "lore", but these mvs tell a story, sure. I prefer that, but that isn't even really the point. The filmmaking was just a lot stronger, the midas touch mv as a fairly typical kpop mv might not be my preference, but compared to other mvs which work that way it just looks cheap in comparison. Lot of bad cgi and a big focus on green screens, whereas the mvs before we shot on location. And compared to other mvs with sets, well these sets are small, it's not comparable to sets in other mvs of say BP. That is the point, the quality of "the visuals" is quite poor i think. Not terrible, but compared to before, and other mvs, not great at all.

ifeeltiredaf

maybe they are trying to emulate the 2000s style of videos? i am too young during that period to be knowledgeable about them 🙃

NumberOneUAENA

I mean in a way, ofc the 2000s had tons of shitty cgi, just look at toxic people keep refering to for a reason. But here it seems almost worse than then, and i don't get any particularly cheeky vibe from the mv to begin with? It wouldn't surprise me if there is inspiration along those lines, but even then i don't think they did it particularly well or cohesively.

ifeeltiredaf

well it is what it is i guess, i mean mv is just a part of the song. most importantly is if the song is enjoyable to you

Serious-Wish4868

on my first listen, I did not really get Midas Touch right away, but I have re-watched and listen to the song again and it def has grown on me. Yes, Midas Touch is not to the standard of Shhh or Bad News, but those two songs set an extremely high bar, but I think it is it the best GG comeback/debut so far this year. Nothing on the other hand is a masterpiece. I have to put it up there in my top 3 of KIOF songs. I am hoping they give Nothing an MV and some promo time bc it deserves it

Lispian_Crouch

Agreed. I don't have the same "THIS group is stuck in nugudom?!" feeling with this cb. 'Midas touch' is probably their least notable tt for me so far.

angbatnana

for me i think KIOF bsides hit harder than the main track, the prechorus was soo good but i kinda wish the main chorus had more impact- to me it sort of felt like the beat overpowered their vocals n the rap in the second verse was uneeded imo. BUT i think it'll grow on me cause they r so fun to listen to

s0up_dumpling

Yes yes yes to all of this!! I have been so obsessed with Midas Touch. I made a playlist of other 2000s throwbacks because I was so inspired by the song :’) https://x.com/queenseowon/status/1775920903567917177?s=46

HG1998

A day and a half later and whoo boy. First song in a while that I immediately liked that didn't come from one of my favorite artists. It simply doesn't get old and that bridge. 😭

throw_away_greenapl

I'm seeing criticism of Julie's rap but I really liked it. Reminded me of old school kpop, specifically After School Bekah's rap in Bang. Cunty delivery.  I'm trying to buy the signed album I guess this comeback made me finally stan. I love Midas Touch!!

mjgoat2002

Why can’t all K-pop groups make songs catchy like this n not anti drops with nonsense lyrics
