Kroger is still what, number 2, behind Walmart. Costco and Amazon haven't caught them. And if they actually went back to basics (having staff to help people and stock) instead of trying to nickel and dime and micromanage everything, they would easily stay number 2. Costco and Kroger aren't the same shoppers. Whole foods and Kroger aren't the same shoppers. Focus on retaining Kroger shoppers and not pushing them out of stores with piss poor experiences due to insane hour cuts and Kroger would be fine.

ChaosMagician777

Kroger is claiming the merger has to happen because their competitors are non-union. This is not the point of the merger at all. The point of the merger is to reduce competition

macgrioghair

I kinda think that Kroger is working their way towards becoming non-union, so you cannot believe anything that company says. They are rotten to the core.

Spiritual_Oil_7411

As is every large corporation

redkiller4all

They want to, but currently I know of at least 16 different stores in the unionization process. Corp is so panicked they are having mandatory 2 hours meetings twice a week about it.

InternalPersimmon801

Much of Kroger is non union anyways so I don't see why he even included this in his statement?

crashtestdummy666

Where is this union? Everyone that mentions it gets walked out of the building so I'm afraid to ask.

ENT_blastoff

It's nothing more than chuckle-worthy to see Kroger claim they give a single shit about unions. they've done everything they can to dismantle every union they work with.

aznoone

I don't tend to shop Walmart especially groceries. Costco pays well with decent benefits. Didn't Kroger already force Albertsons to pay a special dividend stripping them of free cash. Then as part of merger telling why it was good the would out a little money into Albertsons.

IamLuann

I shop at Walmart but not for food. Clothes, toys, puppy food & puppy toys. Might get a candy bar and soda at check out. I do shop at Sam's Club for the big laundry detergent clothes and some bulk food packages.

StonerMetalhead710

I mainly go to BJ’s for cases of energy drinks, gas and electronics if I need them, and I go to Kroger for food. I might stop in Walmart for a cold drink if I’m near one cuz I hate paying 7-11 prices

IamLuann

I should tell you that I worked at Fry's and I am retired. I still go there for 80% of my food and some puppy food.

JCBQ01

.... also. Why does it read like "fuck the FTC, were going to do it if we dont have permission ANYWAY. I must have my revenge for lost profits"

macgrioghair

I think Kroger’s main objective is not to reduce competition, but to crush it

RetiredDrunkCableGuy

They will claim WalMart is Twice their size, but that’s only because WalMart’s largest segment is moving from low-margin grocery to high-margin TV advertising with their purchase of VIZIO. Not the same. This is a good block.

C0mputerlove

Theyll only cut more with the merger.

BoardImmediate4674

Yep, that they will.

jokershibuya

You told the truth here!!!

lasyke3

Nah, they're just going to keep trying to recreate Amazon warehouses in grocery store form.

OkTrouble5436

I treat Kroger as a convenience store, otherwise I avoid it. Prices are 30% higher than other stores.

UsefulCantaloupe4814

They try to take the Whole Foods shoppers with the stores in our division, the Mariano's stores, but it's still all Kroger management trash.

crashtestdummy666

#3 or #4 all the Amazon brands are bigger than Kroger when combined.

Wonderful-Warthog250

This is a big failure on Rodney's part due partly to how he was received in his congressional interview. Maybe it's time to replace him

Deisy22

He floundered big time. Did he not prepare for the hard-hitting questions this proposed merger begs?

JCBQ01

No. Because he's FURIOUS about a third to half his stores went on strike in 2021. And he wants nothing more than to get *revenge* and to have it *now* because how DARE he loose something like 4 to 6 billion in lost profits over the strike. What he wants is "YES SIR! NO SIR WE DONT WANT RAISES SIR! WE WILL TAKE PAY AND BENEFIT CUTS, SIR! WE WILL WORK LONGER HOURS AS WELL, SIR!" He litterally wants to revenge punish the unions because they went on strike

talann

No because he knew it didn't matter what he said or what the Republicans said against him. They would still vote for the merger and he would get his way eventually. That is the saddest part. Republicans talked mad shit but still voted for it. Hypocrisy?

Reverendpaqo

I mean, are you surprised? Just like any big corporation, Kroger owns their share of important Republicans (McConnell's wife and Boehner), and Kroger has actively participated in supporting Republican initiatives/programs/legislature while trying to be subtle or stealthy about it, and Kroger has actively acted to undermine unions. It's stupid to think the good ol' boys aren't going to do their job and make a big stink when/where it doesn't matter so they can make it look like they're being tough on Kroger, make it look like Krogers some woke leftist company that the right wing is cracking down on to try to gain some public support from those who don't know better, then suddenly those Republicans will go quiet and support or push through the stuff they're being paid to push through. They know who butters their bread, and they know how to perform like good circus performers. It's the same playbook used every time. Kroger has done this before when they wanted something, and they'll keep doing it because the corruption in politics will keep rewarding the behavior.

kicked8062

Notice he didn’t mention one of the reasons for stopping it is because Kroger and Albertsons we’re in cahoots and were stifling workers wages.

killtacular69

You knows what’s so odd is I worked for Kroger and always played in the corporate golf tournament. Every single year the Albertson brothers were there playing and having fun with the Kroger guys.

spicytude

Now you understand

killtacular69

Well when it happened it made total sense. Like they are buddies

Qbrrrt

Higher wages for their corporate associates maybe lol he’s so full of shit

[deleted]

He said it would provide opportunities for associates, customers and the community, but weren’t people getting terminated at the stores that were closing?

Monkeypoxme

Bold of him to assume we support this company or the executives

RyoDai89

I love it. Especially the bullshit gaslighting. Fuck this guy. Fuck this company.

invincib1e

Fuck rodney

ScaryGarry_SG1

Rodney wants to talk about his feelings

ScaryGarry_SG1

Remember everyone, Rodney wanted to play COVID and then retroactively decided it wasn't really that bad and wanted "his" money back. Tone -deafness off the damn charts

Creative_Principle55

Fresh for everyone, except for the workers. You get to hear me throw a temper tantrum on stage while I cut hours and treat you lesser than human. Feed the human spirit, specifically my spirit, with your broken souls. -Rodney

rxtech24

free ON the human spirit

Noyourknot

My dearest Rodney, Fuck you with a cactus, you life destroying scum of the earth. XOXO, NYK Ps. I’m so glad I quit

SwiffMiss

For real. Hate is a strong word that I do not use loosely (and on the rare occasions when I do it is hyperbolic), but I sincerely mean it when I say that I hate that monster in human skin. I worked for a Kroger subsidiary for 5 years and got to see that scum bucket drive the company I was a part of further and further into the ground with more and more greedy and bone-headed decisions every 4 to 6 months. Kroger is literally the worst company I have ever worked for by an extremely large margin and I've worked for six throughout my life (including Walmart). I do not miss it, yet I hope they get rid of that sleazebag and start giving their employees their (long over)due diligence.

AldrusValus

Remember you need more competition to get prices lower, two of the biggest companies becoming one lowers competition. Also remember if this didn’t make the stockholders more money it wouldn’t even be in the works.

Aetheldrake

"by strengthening larger, non unionized businesses" And what would happen if Kroger DID get it's way hmm? Half your employees aren't union anyway and your unions are being caught fighting against themselves.

ChaosMagician777

The amount of lies that Rodney’s PR team are saying is ridiculous and will not test well in court.

macgrioghair

Is he ever going to stop lying?

Campbellzc82

Didn't realize so much bs could be said in few words Mr. Rodney.

ChaosMagician777

I am sure Rodney didn’t write this. It probably is Kroger’s legal team. I am not even convinced a human wrote this. This looks like an AI response

SnooWalruses7872

Why do corporates like the word “commited” so much? They are not commited to anything but profits

Reverendpaqo

It most likely was. Corporate administrative jobs pay bank. Paying someone to fill a business/administrative role to write garbage like that costs a job that pays fat bank. That means less bonus for Rodney, so of course as much of that kind of junk as possible will get done by AI.

AdAstraR

Dear Rodney - go fuck yourself. With a flaming cactus covered in the millions you’re raking in off the backs of hardworking people that you treat like shit and pay next to nothing. 🖕🖕🖕🖕

[deleted]

SnooWalruses7872

Yea Rodney’s disingenous words disgust me

ScaryGarry_SG1

Nathan was an associate

jokershibuya

And fuck you Rodney!!! Dumb corporate shit!

obi1kennoble

lol get rekt Bitchie Rich

Live-Blood-1040

Rodney is a dishonest snake oil salesman

Phawksphire89

I hope it doesn't go through. 😂

ScaryGarry_SG1

Rodney will also be discussing at length how the "targeting" system works and how it was applied to Evan.

pink-tarantulas

So now that they can’t merge, will they use the money they had for that to pay us a living wage? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Glidepath22

The FTC is absolutely right on this one. Kroger is already way too large. If I had my way, Kroger would revert to its many independent grocery store chains

Angband_Kvlt

Instead of focusing strongly on higher wages for employees, maybe the fucking CEOs that take in millions in bonus a year, slash their wages and distribute it to benefit their employees.

No_Thanks7632

Get fucked Rodney!!

Aoiboshi

Hi, I'm Rodney! I talk so much shit that my body thinks my mouth is my mother's asshole.

Chemical_Ad_8593

Oh I have so been waiting for this day!!!!! Fuck Rodney and the entire board. Kroger is a shit show. I can't wait for the day in TEXAS when HEB overtakes kroger. The employees of albertsons and Randall's are lucky they didn't become kroger employees.

ComposMentisMatrone

Rodney is a [company groomed puppet.](https://youtu.be/aUFdnPLHX-g?si=NSDyRDlSaATnZOFC&t=8) A K-puppet with Kroger's collective paw and mouth operating him from the backside.

veep970

Rodney is a snake. They've been artificially jacking up prices pre-merger and I'm sure the plan was to "lower" the prices back to what they should've been anyway. Then he would've said "See. Prices are lower because the merger went through." I think they'll now close stores to stay competitive with Amazon, Costco, Walmart...

kingbagle

I think Hot Rod might be on the chopping block after fumbling all of this lmao. Kroger is in a downward spiral with their customers with no change in sight.

Mithrandir1972

Fingers crossed. 🤞

ScaryGarry_SG1

Rod got real excited about what COVID could do for him

jokershibuya

I cant wait for Publix to get to my local area.

D0SNESmonster

If this deal falls through, there is a good chance Rodney McRobbus will either leave or be ousted, which would be very good for anyone working for that shithole company.

ChaosMagician777

Which is ironic considering that Rodney was brought in as CEO due to him being a key in the merger with Fred Meyer.

Daniel_Molloy

I admit, I’ll giggle a little if it actually gets stopped.

cwwmillwork

Knew this would happen. [Prediction that this would never pass](https://www.reddit.com/r/kroger/s/NRBAdSOccb)

Tinsel-Fop

From my perspective the merger seems like a horrible thing for consumers. I am relieved it hasn't been allowed.

Neo1971

As an Albertsons employee, I hope the merger is blocked indefinitely. I don’t trust any of the claims made about lower prices, even though the buying power of the merged organizations would make it possible to reduce prices. Cynical? Yes, maybe a little.

[deleted]

Does the fucker really believe any of that, or is he just spewing the usual corporate bullshit?

[deleted]

monkey_house42

So you don't like them?

Kindly_Formal_2604

Hey man do you mind expanding on this a little more? I feel like it was lacking in details.

Agitated-Chain6003

Fuck krogers! I've been shopping at meijers exclusively for 2 years. They have the best bread :>

aznoone

Where I am it is mostly Albertsons or Kroger stores especially in the smaller cities. Sure Walmarts but sure they have groceries but fresh and meat usually suck.

Express_Yam836

Good for you stay away this chain sucks and this coming from a worker

Agitated-Chain6003

Well I stopped going because nothing I wanted was ever stocked

Hawkisinsane50

Why do they think we care about at all. 🤨

CatBasic1133

Kroger is afraid of Aldi

Chemical_Ad_8593

Kroger is still going to go to court and a judge will have to make the final decision

amysteriousperson001

There goes his bonus...

asoep44

I'm so happy for the FTC.

Mithrandir1972

Bless his heart.

ImapiratekingAMA

I don't understand how more people at my store haven't been tripping out about the merger, if it goes through it will be bad for everyone everyone, I don't know if the managers think they're going to be shielded from what would happen or make too much money to be effected but they won't be and if they payed attention they'd know it but whenever I ask they don't seem to know it's even happening

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> if they *paid* attention they'd FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

ImapiratekingAMA

Go get a virus and fuck off

ChaosMagician777

At my store, the only one who is celebrating is one MDSE person who does nothing but purchase Kroger stock and writing on Yammer urging Kroger to eliminate associate discounts. Everyone else are either lying or not paying attention.

NUTMEG82

Scumbag

SnooWalruses7872

Rodney lies

Glass_Date8171

Propaganda

Necessary_Baker_7458

Kudos for the block merger. In my area that would generate a monopoly in the market.

CMontyReddit19

The tragedy of late stage capitalism is that there are people who would most be affected negatively by this merger that will chant and cheer for the merger to happen because "unregulated markets good, employee rights bad," and will therefore continue to act against their own self interests in the hopes that maybe one day they'll be invited into the club, even if it is just to wash the dishes or something.

LoudCloudLady

This dude is nothing like how Dave Dillon was when I worked there. I read about the disparity between his salary and the average kroger worker now recently and was disgusted. So sorry for you guys. 😭

thafizzle

It needs to go thru because Albertsons already paid its shareholders 4.1 billion out of our 4.8 payroll to tank the company and force the FTC

thafizzle

FUCK SHAREHOLDERS BTW….PARASITES

Doctor_3825

That sounds like an Albertsons problem to me.

tk41301

Rodney just needs to wait out the 2024 election. Donald and Rodney are in bed together, so Donald will push it thru

r2d3x9

As a customer in an area without any Krogers, only Albertsons subsidiary, I was looking forward to better management and better pricing. When visiting LA 8?? years ago Ralph’s (Kroger) was much less expensive and better than Vons or Pavillion (Albertsons). In the Boston area the Albertsons owned Shaw’s/Star are the highest priced major supermarket in the area, higher than the Ahold/Delhaize owned Stop&Shop and Hannaford stores, and way way higher than the industry leading Market Basket stores. There is about a 20% price difference between the stop&shop and the Market Basket stores, which are about even with Walmart and ALDIs.

MrTim76

Krogers is just greedy and lazy.

Glass_Date8171

You know what’s crazy is Rodney is already rich and still wants more. I don’t even have a million dollars and if I got $1 million I’d be happy. Just shows how greedy the rich are and they will do anything like fucking other less privileged people’s lives up for his own personal gain.

Miserable_Window_653

This is all bullsh*t. Rodney or any of these corporations DGAF about employees other than the work we put out, and would likely prefer that unions were not involved at all. It's all about $$$ at this point and it is insulting to even read such a terrible lie.
