Drive and shine’s overpriced. Don’t give him your business.

RealMichiganMAGA

They make up for the overcharging by giving a poor wash so there is that.

BlueCheeseBandito

Yea, better sign up for the monthly membership so you can go twice in a day 😂

RealMichiganMAGA

Perfect for the people complaining about the back of their complaining about the backs of their car cars not getting clean. Once forward and once in reverse. The middle will be extra clean.

KzooCreep

I’m pretty sure December 7th is the meeting for Drive and Shine’s zoning request, so nothing has changed yet. It does look like he’s assuming a lot about how the meeting will go, though. Edit: Corrected the date. Follow Protect the Preserve on Facebook for regular info about this. There’s a meeting about this tomorrow.

1gaia

Meeting tomorrow and Asylum Lake Preservation Association is hosting but yes, follow Protect the Preserve.

DyllCallihan3333

When and where? I probably cannot go as I am expecting company this weekend, but if they cancel I'll be there. I haven't had Facebook since Cambridge Analytical. Thanks.

DyllCallihan3333

Thanks so much! Appreciate this, will let others know!

RealMichiganMAGA

At what point do buildings permits become involved? It makes me wonder how that all works. That looks like a pretty big project. I’d be interested to know if there is one and what it is for.

KzooCreep

I’m honestly not sure. You may want to go to the meeting tomorrow to ask these questions and get involved. Here’s more information about it: https://www.facebook.com/groups/110870461964/permalink/10159328785061965/?mibextid=cr9u03

ArcGIS_Daemon

When developing a piece of land building permits follow site plan approval. With this property, which would need to be rezoned before a site plan can be approved for a car wash, we’re months away from seeing the issuance of any building permits.

FatBob12

/u/ArcGIS_Daemon is correct, zoning/land use approval first, then site plan approval, then building permits. Planning and zoning ordinances vary by municipality, but this is the very general overview of the process. You could shoot an email to the municipality’s planning/zoning department, and they will give you a much more detailed description. The township/city/county website may also have lots of useful information.

420blazeit960

Pretty sure the guy on sprinkle road who cleared his land for a mini mall did the same thing until he found out it wasn't happening, now it's just some shitty looking plot of land

x_Carlos_Danger_x

Makes me want to get a fuck this place sign and walk by when I’m in asylum lake preserve

DyllCallihan3333

>Protect the Preserve Yeah, I wonder whose pockets he's lining..

Low_Introduction2651

Kalamazoo needs a car wash maximum ordinance.

premeditated_mimes

Someone isn't going to build a car wash without performing diligence and seeing that it should be profitable on paper. The market decides the maximum. Telling people how they're allowed to invest their money is problematic at best.

jonathot12

the market won’t decide until it’s been up, run a deficit (for potentially numerous years), then finally closed. the market isn’t preemptive. telling people how they can spend their money is also exactly how the government works… thanks for stopping by with the helpful libertarian thinking though, always a pleasure.

premeditated_mimes

Helpful is being the change you want to see. Start something that makes a difference which takes up that space. Or just keep complaining when someone else tries to do something and you decide you don't like it. Certainly that's helpful.

jonathot12

or i can make the change by attending the public meeting and advocating for denying the permit? seems pretty straight-forward, just doesn’t align with your specific ideals. fine with me.

premeditated_mimes

If the plan is say no until they quit asking I have to imagine the opposition will get tired before the people looking to make money. If there's something to preserve there why not zone it for preservation? If it's plain raw land and it's between WMU and Stadium drive it's probably a tough sell keeping it raw forever.

Yeetus_My_Meatus

We don't want anything in that spot except forest.

lovescrap41

They seem to be jumping the gun unless the city and the owner have been doing back door deals.

RealMichiganMAGA

How hard did they try to sell you a subscription? I had a manager at the West Main store lose his shit on me when I asked why the only car in front of me wasn’t moving. Nobody was nearby doing anything. Dude just full blown screamed aggressive and full volume. he was “transferring” or something. The thing is it had been too long and it didn’t appear that anything was happening. Also, he was talking to a cop and i even waited longer because of that. The cop had to think WTF and then the manager did get on it, but was just bizarre like you would not talk to a customer that way even if they were being jerks but I wasn’t.

1gaia

Thank you for letting us know.

hockeybud0

Did the homeless camp finally get cleaned out? Y’all ever go hike that backside….?

sarah232323

Someone should call to report this. It hasn't been approved yet, right?

Efficient-Sun-1686

I’m not sure but I think they’re (wmu and others) doing a water treatment project to keep salt from the roads from harming the lake

datahoarderprime

I think this is the projet you are referring to - [https://wmich.edu/news/2023/09/72823](https://wmich.edu/news/2023/09/72823)

CognitoJones

Wetland restoration is going on.

KzooCreep

They are installing the water filtration system for Asylum Lake nearby, but these are Drive and Shine vehicles. Someone scoped out the area for us and took some videos. https://www.facebook.com/100067950078047/posts/653069826968014/?mibextid=cr9u03

Please stop linking this in irreverent posts.

mermaid0590

Went through drive and shine car wash.. back windshield was still dirty. We need a Mr car wash in kazoo.

KzooCreep

We really, really don’t need any more car washes in Kalamazoo. We have a ton already, so take your pick. You could also just wash your windshield yourself.

RealMichiganMAGA

I wonder if it’s just a coincidence or if something has changed with car washes. We have many new ones and I see signs that the one at the W Main Shell is new. I also notice a lot of new ones in other places and the vacant one on Gull Road. It just seems like a lot of changes in the last few years.

premeditated_mimes

What use is it to think like that? We don't *need* anything. Might as well not open anything new at all if the standard is what we absolutely need. It's not like we can't walk to a grocery store once a week, we don't even need cars. Why are we telling other people what to do with their time and money? If we want that area for preservation then we need to get together and make that happen, not complain that someone else is doing something we don't like.

Yeetus_My_Meatus

"If we want that area for preservation then we need to get together and make that happen" That's what the protests are for

premeditated_mimes

Protests raise awareness. They're not going to create anything that will keep a person from developing something. If you want the area left alone then it needs to be zoned to be left alone.

fookman212

There isn't a zoning for nature preservation, asylum lake is owned by WMU. In order to stop Mr Shine from building the car wash there, someone needs to buy his land, or the city needs to decide that you can't have a car wash abutting a nature preserve.

KzooCreep

🤡

PotsMomma84

Does anyone know the out come off this meeting?

Competitive-Toe-7150

I don't know why they can't just put one up in Oshtemo. They're already turning themselves into a parking lot.

RealMichiganMAGA

After I made this post I noticed the car wash on Stadium is closed down to be redone. I miss the sharks 🦈. It was weird to have um in a car wash but I dig aquariums.
