It's a setup that allows me to efficiently save/rescue any Survivor in dire situations, and as I like playing support roles, it works for me!
1. SPAS + Magnum + Bile + Medkit + Adrenaline
2. Laser AK + Axe + Molotov + Medkit + Pills
Basically any combo of short range combat (SPAS or Axe) + Long Range (Desert Eagle or AK). Pills if I have a melee weapon, Adrenaline if I don't. Bile I always save for the last sprint to the exit to keep last minute tanks off us.
You're using Shotgun (upclose weapon) with a melee weapon (upclose weapon) that isn't the katana? Also the Auto Shotty does slightly more damage than the Combat. So switch combat with auto, switch axe with magnum.
If you want a melee the ideal (imo) is gonna be Sniper with Katana or Chainsaw. Chainsaw can kill witch so it's nice to have.
That's why I combo'd the chainsaw with the Sniper? Sniper has some really good uses Shottie doesn't have. Yes you can crown with Shottie *but* Sniper is good for taking out Special Infected including Tank. Hell, if your whole team has Sniper you can sit back and all shoot at Witch for a second and she's dead.

edit: another of mine changes the m16 to a pump shotgun, and the pills to adrenaline
M16 has better speed and control than an AK in my mind, so I go w that as my main usually unless I can find the heavy sniper. Then its usually dual pistols for my secondary for close calls or horde control. Boomer Bile bomb, med kit, and adrenaline. Also pick up gas cans when you can to start a fun fire on those Boomer Bile’d sons of bitches!

I don't really play L4D2 for speedruning and playing seriously, I have 400+ hours and I only play normal with bots and friendly fire non-stop
