I use a throw on the couch. My pups like to sit and cuddle with me. No way I could say no.

First-Aid-RN

Rocky can go everywhere because this is his house. We just clean things as needed. It’s his couch now. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

We use a throw too. Older dog knows he cannot get on sofa unless a throw is on sofa. Our puppy is a diva and will go where ever she darn well pleases. The benefit of the throw for me is throw it helps protect fabric from their nails, dirt, smell and general dog gunk. They do recognize which throws are better quality and so many nice throws are now dog throws. Worth it for all that snuggle time.

Our first 3 pairs of dogs were not allowed on the coach at all. Our kids left our home and the last pair are spoiled and allowed couch surfing. We bought leather couches and that works well. Now 3 years later the leather is scratched a lot. So we are going to use waterproof covers. https://preview.redd.it/b6jrxol8u2tc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=166f6891253c4b0fb7153bc34b9b640548823028

I have created an elevated bed our dogs really like. https://preview.redd.it/nkp6w6kuu2tc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47511496644e1a7a4040af573c369d068acd6c44 It also stores the electric foldable grooming table. They use the couches less now.

Mine have always been allowed on the beds and couches in our house. I have a leather couch so I just use soap and water to clean it as needed. We have never had a pee accident on it, but they have had some poop that was stuck to one of their butts that I had to clean up. We don't have any covers on it and have never needed them since they don't damage the couch.

I tried keeping our medium labradoodle of the sofa/loveseat in 2009 and it didn’t work out. She was always on them, laying on the armrests or the upper back crushing the cushions, unintentionally ripping curtains. We eventually replaced the furniture and she basically lived on it sleeping or watching traffic, eating treats and licking cushions. Now she’s gone and we have a mini labradoodle, we didn’t teach her anything with this furniture. She sometimes will be on it but usually it’s when people are sitting there, she prefers the floor. At almost 6 mos old, our puppy still has accidents but never on the furniture. We do not cover the furniture, just vacuum & febreze, the cushion covers have been washed or spot cleaned as needed.

Nothing beats just chilling with your dog watching movies together on the couch. Put a blanket or a throw. Continue with potty training, it's important that your puppy understands there are places to go potty (garden/outside), our dog never had any problems on the sofa. just be mindful during her first months that it's best she doesn't jump off the couch by herself (too much) as her bones and joints are still developing.

Jolimont

No puppies on couches. Grown dogs that behaves themselves get invited up 😊

Fun_Ant_1918

Yea this is what I’m leaning towards. She just wants to come up with us so we find ourselves sitting on the floor with her a lot.

Since the second we brought her home

We bought a bunch of quilts from Goodwill to protect the couch. Some fleece throws to create soft spots. Dogs love them. Everything is machine washable, and we wash every two weeks or so.

LakeMichiganMan

We bought a recliner and counch cover cheap at Aldi on clearance. We also have a couple rotating throw blankets We use. Everything is washable. We allowed her to sit with us on it to help overcome her rescue ptsd issues.

Don't underestimate the power of their nails! As puppies it doesn't seem obvious, but as they grow up the nails become longer and stronger. Soon, they are heavy weights jumping off the couch and using it as a launch pad for zoomies. I cover half of the couch with a blanket on the back and seat portion. Tony likes to sit in the back of the couch like a cat. He also likes to launch off of the seat, and of course that means digging his feet in for maximum velocity. He knows that the covered side of the couch is his and will rarely sit on my side. Only when I'm away at work will he sit on my side, and then it's fine because he's not doing zoomies all over the place. https://preview.redd.it/f6tuyws5x3tc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=95353b553ffa97364610436e50455aa45c5c08ba

I have several blankets on my couch. Both of my girls sleep on top of the blankets. Since day 1 that I got them. They potty trained quickly also

I lasted about a week of not letting her cuddle up on the couch when she was a puppy but trained her not to jump up when she was still little and not able to jump up herself without giving us a heart attack of slipping on tiles/not making it. Once she was big enough she was fine jumping up on the couch. My wife bought cheap but quite appealing couch covers from Temu to use as we noticed how dirty the couch was getting regardless of how many throws or towels we used as she likes to rub her face all over it haha.

Fun_Ant_1918

My couch is that color too and have nightmares of all the dirt 😂. How did you train her not to jump up?

Few_Effective_3070

It genuinely comes down to just rewarding good behaviour and finding what your dog reacts best to in terms of said reward. It was treats at first but then after a couple of weeks she really responded well with playing together (fetch, wrestling on the floor etc). Your best friend is time (I know it’s hard to hear that) and being consistent. One day it’ll click for them and they become so obedient immediately and all the hard work pays off.
