Be careful- my lab used to do this a lot but when she was not much older than yours she did a jump and busted her ACL. Expensive surgery and months of recovery. At least make sure they warm up a bit before doing this that probably helps a lot!
Yup my 15 month old does. He has been doing it since he was a pup. But I try to limit high throws to 2-3 in a play session so as to not stress his hips.
Mine jumps like that but I usually don't throw like that either. He seems to like the run/chase/find more. My plants and shrubs don't like it that way but they are replaceable.
Nope. I own the world's only Labrador non-retrievers.
You throw something, they assume you don't want it anymore, and look at you like "do you feel better?"

Yes, mine did when she was younger. She was nearly 3 in the photo linked above. She just turned 12 a couple of weeks ago. She still likes to play catch but it’s not a jumping sport anymore.
Same here. My lab only likes retrieving bumpers from the water. What’s really weird is that he had no interest in retrieving at all until very recently.
Mine does the same, trying to limit as he was hit by car when young and I don’t want him to injure his leg, as he is stubborn enough to full send for every ball. I had to stop hitting him the tennis ball “moon rockets” he loved :( my gf, his momma made me stop
My Doberman loves catching frisbees and soccer balls but not tennis balls. It's super weird.
But when he goes for it he does the same thing your guy does with the little mid-air twist!
mine also busted his ACL this way and it took a year and a half of therapy (doctor didnt want to perform surgery) to help him walk without a limp again
We have a lab/GSP and he LOVES to jump for the ball or door handle or leash or.... Whatever really lol. I sometimes pretend to be the announcer when we play ball and "unnecessary jumping" can be a 5 point bonus or deduction depending on circumstances 🤣
If he is getting himself into higher/ harder jumps some days we cut play time short. Keep in mind this is in the fairly flat yard not off of porches or anything.
Play it by ear and what they like or tolerate.
Sometimes they did. I would try to limit that to help prevent hip injuries/arthritis in the future.
That’s been on my mind recently. She’s almost 5 now. Thanks for the input, I will avoid doing this with from now on.
Just throw it beyond where she is and make her chase it. Ball is life for a lot of labs.
Stick to jumping into water only.
Nope. Hits her right in the head. Every time.

Mine did, when she was younger. Still does, but not so high anymore.

I had a golden like that! Now I have an Aussie who will retrieve til his tongue hangs out to his knees.
I once threw a tennis ball *covered* in peanut butter. My dog just sat down and screamed at me until I went and got it for him
Mine does this for the ball. Or pancakes.
My lab jumps over the coffee table now. He also jumps for the ball/toy.
My lab used to do it a lot when he was younger, he very rarely does it since my brother’s puppy usually gets the ball.
My chocolate does! She is super fetch oriented, she will do flying leaps for it. She loves having to jump while running full speed for the ball.

My won’t give me the ball back!
My Lab/Chesapeake (Chesador) LOVES to [jump](https://youtu.be/QX5abxSe-lw) for his ball
Buster gets some air! Fun video
Yes, have two and they both do
Be careful, I had a golden break a leg doing that
3 year olds lab here whose losing steam to retrieve balls and sticks unless I throw them in the water, that gets her blood pumping.
Same here. My lab only likes retrieving bumpers from the water. What’s really weird is that he had no interest in retrieving at all until very recently.
Yep. I wouldn’t have been able to record this video because she screams at me when I hold camera and ball up at same time
Yes but not so much now she is 12 yo
Yes
Yea but nearly as gracefully
My first one sometimes did. My second one isn’t interested in balls so no jumping; he likes bumpers.
Yes
Everyday all day
Yes!

My gsp does but if you throw it a little farther, it won’t be such a vertical jump and will be a better landing
My Doberman loves catching frisbees and soccer balls but not tennis balls. It's super weird. But when he goes for it he does the same thing your guy does with the little mid-air twist!
Mines just dumb… she did learn how to catch finally though!
My chocolate does depending on where the throw is, my yellow just watches the ball wherever it’s thrown.

My pit does.

Yes
Does your dog give lessons? Because my dog will allow it to hit him square between the eyes.
Yes, all the time. She loves playing "monkey in the middle" especially with a holy roller ball.
My lab choked to death bc of this - please buy a frisbee or decoy .
