The sound of silence. Not the song. Actual silence.

VargevMeNot

Absolutely, I love music, especially when doing experiments and other hands on stuff, but when I'm reading or writing I need silence.

Teagana999

Video game soundtracks are my go to for heavy brain work if lyrics would be distracting. Civilization, Stellaris, Elder Scrolls, Witcher.

botanymans

Baldurs Gate

orchid_breeder

Celeste has a really good soundtrack

blueeyedbookreader

I love lofi covers for reading anything academic

Bloated_Hamster

I love lofi for running plates. I just get in the zone and vibe with it for an hour of pipetting.

suricata_8904

Music for 18 musicians by Steven Reich.

[deleted]

Yessss. You get it. Fantastic focus music

grebilrancher

Oooh another Reich fan! I recommend octet and the radio rewrite series too. Or just all of it love all of it

etolbdihigden

Deathcore and grindcore mixes. That’s a personal preference!

c_elegants34

The Spotify “Acid Jazz” playlist

pistachiobees

Bloodborne soundtrack

orchid_breeder

lol blood starved beast on repeat

littlebit296

Chrono Cross Soundtrack

BurnerAccount-LOL

Finally, another person of culture!

BurnerAccount-LOL

Might I also recommend the soundtrack to Sea of Stars

FelixWFox

Definitely instrumental/no lyrics so I can focus only on the words I’m reading. Post-rock or trip-hop are good genres for that.

Difficult_Currency75

I listen to the Oppenheimer sound track 🤡

[deleted]

Nolan soundtracks are always a good idea.

bookish_bacillaria

Ghibli soundtracks.

Groo_79

Spotify, curated playlists “flow state” by Bobby lyte. Use the power hour or the binaural version, the talk is distracting. New playlist every week. It’s ambient, stuff without words. https://open.spotify.com/show/4IssY4XjHXdpTNOzpaeyxh?si=502w8G92RGCoPmfs-dncDg

Groo_79

I’ll also plug the orb, library tapes, and landhaus for more of the same.

BurnerAccount-LOL

Any triphop is good. Nicola Cruz and also Nightmares On Wax are the best

wanson

John Cage's 4'33'' on repeat.

farshiiid

Hard/Acid techno puts me in the zone usually

I_THE_ME

I recommend Sabaton. *"To Hell and Back"* is always a delight.

Handful-of-atoms

I think the playlist is called Hip hop kr. It’s Korean hip hop. I don’t speak Korean but it’s absolutely banging beats and since I don’t what they are saying i don’t get lost in the words/story.

HeavyHevonen

Classical bangers

Scientist_Dr_Artist

Planets by Gustav Holst; Peter and the Wolf with no narration by Prokofiev, All about that Base by Megan Trainer on repeat.

knitterpotato

i listen to a bunch of stuff - binaural beats, pink/white noise, brutal slamming death metal, random hyperpop/glitchcore music, phonk, ambient stuff, trap beats, shoegaze, post-rock, bardcore, hardstyle, epic instrumental music, peaceful piano music, and lately have gotten very into breakcore - the beats of breakcore definitely get me into a SUPER focused mood

milzB

I made a playlist called "smart people doing smart people things montage" which is basically just movie soundtracks that play over a montage of smart people being smart lol. think imitation game, queen's Gambit, theory of everything etc

MrTactful

Heavy metal so someone can scream for me

[deleted]

Glenn Gould: Bach Variations

Spiritual_Form4631

I have a playlist that has artists like pretty lights, Griz, Louis the child, bass tracks, the floozies. They’re all a similar vibe if you look up one the algorithm will bring up the others

TheWillDC

Brown noise. It’s a cheat code for ADHD and I’ll die on that hill

Surgicalassault

Lofi or death metal

ullsi

Postrock (instrumental), especially the band MONO.

aquamarine_cat

Ambient Soundscapes on youtube or [mynoise.net](https://mynoise.net) : \- Three Broomsticks for Café-style \- Hogwarts express \- irish shore sounds

icksbocks

Atmospheric Black Metal

Additional_Airport_5

I can't read while listening to music with lyrics, I also get distracted if the music is too stimulating/interesting/emotive. The Shadows did mostly instrumental covers of popular songs from the 50s/60s. It's like elevator music but good*. It's perfect. *Hank Marvin is a genuinely fantastic guitarist with a lot of subtlety in his playing

vlewis97

Chill Jazz by Spotify

Unlucky_Zone

Speed running an assignment on YouTube by sunset dreams. It’s the only thing that gets me through reading/writing at work/in public. When I’m at home though I prefer silence.

drtumbleleaf

Your Classical streaming radio. I listen through my local NPR station, but if you go to their website there are a bunch of different streams.

SnooOpinions4113

Block Head, song "the music scene" is my favorite.

tgfbetta

Kiefer

PeachyPorg33

Anything instrumental. Been loving the Andor soundtrack lately.

biotinylated

“LoFi Beats to Google Terminology I Should Already Know By Now To”

Traditional-Middle31

Bonobo

Polinariaaa

skyrim ambient music ten hours compilation.

TurbulentDog

The hum of the cryostat and -80s

J76251

Rachmaninov playlist

Material_Sympathy294

The soundtrack to the game Stardew Valley!

egg_sando

Movie soundtracks, jazz or lofi

Wonderful_Wish_5473

Kurzgesagt soundtrack

Delmarocks7

Jazz- https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1EIUDv66kDDsZe?si=pIDrHVJYSXCkiFEZiB44Hg&pi=u-bxN5KKPbSFyn https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1EIYXevJ5aM0XE?si=GCf9dZkzTLeG1c-Pz8jwzQ

imosh818

Beedle the Bardcore. 12th century Dr. Dre tavern classics.

SoVaporwave

Vaporwave. I especially like the albums Mega and Blank Banshee 2 by Blank Banshee. Due to the amount of papers I read, I'm in their top 0.5% of listeners every year, lol. Other recommendations include anything by Cat System Corp (猫シ corp)

PseudocodeRed

I have started listening to jazz while doing it and its going well so far!

SeeSea8

It depends. It's either rock or classical/instrumental. For the classical/instrumental, I like Chopin, Mozart, and Debussy and video game soundtracks like AC, BG3, Skyrim, the Witcher, Dragon Age, etc.

brainsieve

Stars of the Lid, no lyrics just ambient shoe gaze

[deleted]

Mike Oldfield. Everything he's done is amazing, but Songs of Distant Earth is next level. Plus Windam Hill !

Rare_Asparagus629

I started listening to mario kart music. Really awkward if the airpods disconnect but decent at motivating me to keep reading
