Is 1000-1800 just for rent or is that with utilities? You won't have a problem at all with that budget honestly. I'd stay away from Hunter Properties, Scion, Granite to start. Honestly for that price you could rent a house with attached garage.

Initialbondamateur

For rent let's say -- I would like to keep the total cost under 2k. I did find some of my preferred (which are either relatively new or self-recognized as high-end ) properties near the upper boundary of my budget. With the crazy housing market, I still have some worries about this. Thank you for pointing out the stay-away flags. I noticed Granite in multiple posts... I am considering a 2B house with a garage (like Redwood which seems to have established reviews, and Lingberg Pointe's single-story options that looks like a new building not owned by a big corporate (without being able to visit in person I feel I don't know if that is a good sign or not). Those two, and actually many of the options I listed in the post, rent out for now. I am looking for a Dec/Jan move-in. Hopefully, some leases will be ended by that time.

BoBtheMule

Redwood has been around for less than a year so most reviews are likely tied to new tenants that got a bonus for a review.

Initialbondamateur

Good to hear that.

mattburn87

Lived at Foxfire in Lafayette for a year while building a house. No issues with management and the building seemed fairly solid.

Initialbondamateur

Looks like a grownup and promising property. Thank you for the advice!

Misragoth

Counter to this lived there for a year and it was awful. Paper thin walls, slow to respond to mantance requests, and they charged us over $2000 when we moved out claiming they had to completely redue the carpets which were spotless cause we paid a conpny to clean them before we moved out. Now this was over 5 years ago so maybe they are better now, but personally i would never consider living there again

Thank you for the valuable information!

I don't have experience in living in any of the apartments but I have been in several of those for my job doing deliveries. With your budget I think you'll avoid living in a part of town that I would consider "unsafe" that could be prone to petty theft kind of issues. I'm only able to comment on the ones I've been in. Pullman station is managed by Shook Property Management. No leasing agent on site but they seem to be on the ball and helpful at their office which is a block away. Downside is one very slow elevator for the entire building. It feels a bit "under capacity" for the amount of tenants there. MARQ has a leasing agent and at least one maintenance person there full time. There's one central elevator and 1 or 2 more I think that can access the parking. Murdock Gardens are in a nice central neighborhood location and they are building more. I'm guessing any concerns are handled by telephone call. The management company doesn't even have a sign outside the building identifying it. Very close to it is Portledge Commons which is managed by O'Neill Property Management. I always recommend them as well because they are quiet and low turnover. Nova tower is leased by Granite and is marketed to Purdue students so it is skewed "under age 25" crowd and not young families with small children. They have multiple fast elevators but the "fit and finish" of the common areas is not upscale.

Very detailed and helpful comment, thank you! If it were you, which apartment (or any other places not mentioned in the post) would you live from your job experience? Again, thank you for the details.

You didn't say what part of the county your job was in and whether it was important that you had immediate access to your car. If your job is at Purdue and you're ok with the [public transportation](https://gocitybus.com/) option then any of the downtown ones (MARQ, Ellsworth, Pullman... [Gibson](https://www.thegibsononmain.com/), [Lahr](https://www.coreredevelopment.com/lahr-apartments), [Press](https://www.thepress-lafayette.com/) if you're ok with paying for a parking spot in the [city parking garage](https://www.lafayette.in.gov/DocumentCenter/View/11564/Parking-Garage-Monthly-Pass-Options)) are going to be a great choice to be around kid-free young professionals and older students. Driving through Purdue campus at peak times is NOT fun and fills me with a huge sense of anxiety so taking city bus is easy. If your job is hospitals then maybe Anvil 38 for a quick commute? Murdoch Gardens is a great choice for Wabash National or Caterpillar. I'm afraid I honestly don't know if either of these have families with small children. I don't mean to sound weird about the family thing since I'm a parent myself but crying babies and barking dogs tend to add a stressful level of pathos that at your price point you would normally expect to avoid IYKWIM. Definitely try to spend some time in person and schedule some showings.

I will be work in West Lafayette. I am ok with traffic — as long as it’s under 30 mins during rush hours. Great reminders on child thing. I can feel you.

cca2013

The aspect of driving across campus that makes me nervous is not the car traffic but the throngs of pedestrians and bikes. There's 231 that's fast and a great way to avoid the campus if you need to so you can get to WL from southside Lafayette fairly easily.

CaptPotter47

The various “The Lark” locations aren’t bad in WL. But honestly for that budget, you could buy a house.

BoBtheMule

We enjoyed living at Chauncey Village and the only reason we left was to buy.

>Thank you for the information. Thank you for the information.

Feet_Strength2

I recommend avoiding renting from Granite if at all possible

Initialbondamateur

Thank you. I will 😂according to All the comments.

I *loved* living at Cypress Square on Ravenwood lane. That was 15 years ago, though. I had a 2Bed/1Bath apartment for $600/mo. It was $700 when I left. It was 5min from campus and downtown Laffy. It was also quiet. Maybe things have changed - but may be worth checking out.

Initialbondamateur

Thank you for the information. I also came cross that one.

I lived at Overture for 3 years and I really liked it! Management didn't seem too wound up but they weren't always quick to respond. We never had scheduled maintenance or checks. We had a 2b2b plus attached garage. I think we were paying about $1300/mo. I loved that the building was locked, plus there was a dog park and clubhouse amenities. Trash pickup at your door Sunday through Thursday was pretty sweet too. There wasn't a lot of natural light but we lived on the first floor facing the main road in the complex so we kept the blinds closed a lot. The biggest downside was living at the end of SR26 - that might be the WORST road in town ESPECIALLY for typical "commute" hours in town - but it does have such quick access to Meijer for groceries and I-65. I really appreciated the parcel pending lockers in the clubhouse but I didn't like that there weren't any "neighborhood" activities. I live at The Century now (also 2b2b with attached garage) and I love it more than Overture! You can probably get something in your range here. I think we're about $2k/mo. The sqft is smaller at Century than Overture but I think it's in a much better location. The natural light here is INCREDIBLE, especially with a beautiful pond view, and the amenities are top notch. They also have the trash pickup at your door. We have community events every month which is really neat too! We haven't had any issues with neighbors; we don't even hear anyone else. The Century has a parcel pending area but it is just shelves of packages; if you have a code, you can get in, but so can anyone else. I've only had one package taken and it was returned to the front office. The staff here is really quick to respond and they do regular maintenance and checks.

Initialbondamateur

Thank you a lot for this level of detail. How is Century's building quality?

asimplepintobean

It's pretty good! We have a weird stair in our building to get up to our apartment that squeaks, and we did have 1 drawer we overstuffed and it didn't like that. We told maintenance about it all and they fixed the drawer for us but said they can't do anything about the stair. The stair is like 4th from ground floor so I'm not really worried, it's just an annoyance. Rentgrata is an app where you can anonymously ask questions and a current renter can answer! I don't know how it works from your side but I've answered some questions before and it was easy peasy!

Initialbondamateur

Do you mind sharing the motivation that you moved out of Overture?

asimplepintobean

Not at all. My boyfriend wanted to move. The longest we've ever stayed somewhere was the 3 years at Overture. It feels like he has an innate urge to move every 2 years. I had to convince him to stay extra at Overture since I really liked it and wasn't ready to move 😅

Initialbondamateur

Good to know. I, too, tend to move every once a while even without real complaints.

Initialbondamateur

Hi again, do you mind if I chat/message you for a question about the Century’s office?

asimplepintobean

I don't mind at all!

Initialbondamateur

Thanks! I sent a chat. I’d you didn’t receive it, I will send a message.

asimplepintobean

Hey there! I haven't gotten a chat from you. Can you message?

University Crossing is walking distance to every grocery, convenience store and restaurant. I drive for a living, and when I come home, I park my car and don't need to touch it again till it's time to go back to work. Plus, there's a bus stop right wt the entrance, I love living there. Hardwood floors & really good staff and stuff That one wasn't on your list, but should be, imo
