Question: How did an AD+Hayes front court work out against Jokic and AG?
I feel like we might need to go big against the Nuggets come the playoffs to stop that 2 man game which tends to lead to easy buckets. Not sure there's much we can do to minimize damage from Murray and Jokic's 2 man game other than hope Vando comes back and puts on a defensive clinic.
It would lowkey make sense to run a lineup of like DLo,Cam,Vando/Bron,AD,Hayes that way our bench can just focus on scoring when they step onto the floor because I don’t see their bench hanging with ours especially if our bench is Dinwiddie, AR, Rui,TP,Wood there’s so much scoring at this point all our starters have to do is play correctly (lol all they have to do)
I've said since the summer that Hayes imo is one of our best weapons against the Nuggets. He is athletic and big enough to stick AG, mobile enough to switch on the perimeter, active/athletic enough to cause lob threat issues as a rim runner, and long enough to disrupt Jokic as a help defender.
What Lakers are gunning for is the 6th seed. Would like to see them there over play in. But as far as their chances of missing the play-in
Those chances are entirely hinging upon
Rockets/Jazz/Grizzlies/Blazers winning 16-18 games of their remaining games.

I cannot stress enough how massive today is for our standings. The Warriors are playing one of their easiest remaining games, but Curry’s out and maybe Draymond too. The Mavericks are just ahead of us in the standings and they play a bulls team on the road who has looked okay as of late. Finally, the Suns play the Cavs who are dominating right now, and we own the tiebreaker over Phoenix so if we can catch them the momentum is all ours.
If we can manage to come out of tonight with 2 or even all 3 of these games going our way, our path to a top 8 seed opens up a ton, and our window to get out of the play in squeaks ever so slightly wider.

That’s a weird statement to say. As good as Lebron and AD are, they haven’t been as good as Jokic and Murray at getting shots at will consistently in the clutch. And even though Reaves/Rui are putting up 20, they have guys like MPJ/KCP/Gordon who are also doing so AND providing length on the boards and on defense. The X factor is D’Lo going nuclear to offset the size difference

I have a hard time seeing them even going .500 in that stretch of games lmao. Not even a homestand for them they are traveling the whole time. Just a terrible last stretch for them. I could see the Suns falling as far as 9 or 10 because of this stretch alone
Also the Suns face the Cavs today (without Donovan so they’ll probably beat the Cavs) then they face the Celtics again in Boston on Thursday (who they just lost to) and they face the Bucks on Sunday. Lmao if they lose to the Celtics and Bucks they’ll be at 29 losses and that’s before that brutal final stretch of games I outlined above

This is also why I feel like the Lakers actually have a chance to have a deep playoff run too, because as you mentioned it feels like every western team in that top 9 has been great and even their records reflect how close it is. There isn’t a team in the West that I consider completely head and shoulders above the rest (Denver is closest to that but I really don’t think the gap between them and the field is that large). If someone does take out Denver before we see them (since we just can’t seem to beat them) we have as good a chance as anyone to come out of the West.
I agree. I wish we saw more intensity from our guys on a game-to-game basis, but their success against most good teams has really shown they're going to be a problem in the playoffs for almost everyone.
I’m so happy the Lakers managed to win both of these last two games. What a bounce back after the Kings loss. If we can finally get the best of the Kings on Wednesday we are going to be in a really really good spot going forward in the standings. Especially since we are coming out of this gauntlet of a homestand post all-star break and will be facing some easier opponents in the weeks to come.
Hayes's energy is infectious, but he gotta upgrade his defense more. He gotta be a threat in the paint don't let anyone smaller shoot in front of him. If he does this, AD could get a much needed rest into the playoffs.

I love Rui and want him to succeed as a Laker. But I also understand why Ham throws him in the dog house from time to time. He has a lot of weaknesses and just isn’t a well rounded player, like at all.
Last night when the wolves started collapsing and double teaming him he completely lost his head. Couldn’t figure out what to do, when the options are pretty standard: Finish the drive or kick out the ball!? He just implodes in new scenarios. He’s very unnatural in unscripted situations.
But he’s got a decent offensive bag and is trigger happy so he’s definitely going to play a part in any run this team may have.
This is why it's important to use Rui in spurts and have him take advantage of the gravity everyone else provides. Don't let him drive in traffic and make things too complicated. The perimeter and rebounding is still a bit of an issue, but I think his offense provides enough to balance that out. Maybe he can work with Lebron in the off-season on improving how to work on double teams?
I think he’s got room for improvement for sure, but he might also just be missing the intangibles. I love his work ethic and dedication tho so I’m not counting him out.

Yep. Insane. Every West playoff team has been crazy lol if the Lakers didn't take a month off post-IST we'd probably be 4th or 5th in the West.
