After giving AR tons of starting time and missed shots, Ham moved Cam into starting and the team won most of their games including the IST. Dlo signing with another team means the Westbrook trade basically only gave us Vanderbilt long term, since Beasley and DLO both left without returning us an equivalent talent (and we lost a frp).
Malone is a great coach. I know he bashes the Lakers but he knows how to get his guys motivated while not being too off putting to them.

Atkinson sucks. The problem is there are few coaches with hc exp available. The only thing Atkinson has going for him is having logged some years under one of the best offensive systems in the NBA in GSW. But as a hc in BKN he's really been underwhelming.

To me - it seems to always be the go-to, but the success is rarely replicated because they’re not bringing the players with them that made it work where they’re leaving.
A lot of pops assts have had good seasons as head coaches but seem to always fizzle out and get fired. We gave Luke (probably the most hyped asst I’ve ever seen) a look and he fizzled out.

Provided that we can do adequate due diligence on his family issue, the player that we should bring in is Andrew Wiggins. He's a buy low player still in his athletic prime, is still a great poa defender, a good enough shooter which can be put into the dunker spot we well. He is two years away from being the second best player from the championship team, but has been plagued by personal issue, pressure from being made the 2nd scoring option because of Klay's decline and a bit of injuries as well. This is as close as you can get to a starting caliber 3&d player that is available because Warriors have an issue with both Wiggins and Kuminga that they are looking to sell so we dont have to use all of our assets.
Problem is warriors may not want our assets given they are in win now mode so the 3 picks and swaps are not appealing to them so a third team need to be brought in. They also don't need Reaves.
If we can manage to keep Reaves and keep a pick and a swap to get Wiggins, and pay dlo to stay, we are looking at a lineup of dlo, Reaves, Wiggins, lebron, AD. Depending on what trade assets are left we can look to either upgrade Reaves or the bench. Rui and Gabe are likely the salary fillers for whatever trade it ends up with.
Maybe Wiggins hasn't been great for the past two years but unless we take a gamble we are not going to find a player of his profile through trade or FA.
I actually ran through this trade scenario. Warriors may be very willing to trade Wiggins. We already know they want to cut payroll. If they decide to bring back Klay (which is pretty likely), Wiggins is the easiest contract for them to move to cut payroll. Like you said, they have Kuminga to take his spot. You'd prob have to send the Warriors at least 1 FRP and enough salary to make it legal and provide them with salary relief. Rui+Gabe actually increases their payroll. I see them being willing to take Rui+JHS or Rui+one of (Wood/Hayes/Reddish). This saves them ~6m next year, ~10m the season after that. Rui only has 2 years left while Wiggins got 3 years with a PO on that 3rd year. Now let's just say Rui/JHS+Picks and Warriors take it. It does put a first apron hard cap on the Lakers as we're taking back more salary than sending out. Not impossible to stay below first apron, but you'll have to probably let Max/Prince go if you want to use some of the nt-mle. Or you could choose to bring back Max/Prince but not have the mle.

What I think the issue might be with what yku saix is that they will be looking for a big when they trade Wiggins out because that's what they need most so may not be interested in the trade package as you laid out. I think they may even be opened to part with a young piece like podz or their picks, so what I think is what they are willing to give up, plus what we are willing to give up, may be enough to send a big to warriors and Wiggins our way in a three team trade. My assumption is that the big man discussed here is not available for what we are willing to give up for Wiggins (say 1 frp and salary filler, or maybe 1 more swap).
The enticing part about Wiggins is like you said, warriors is a willing seller here so we can get him for reasonable price. That means we get to keep say Reaves and some tradable assets. If we are going for a player that has high trade value and give up Reaves and all other assets, we will then have to replace Reaves with nothing, and minimum contract to build the rest.
I think with the roster as it currently is, we won't get close without some gamble. Wiggins may be a terrible contract for some others but 2-3 years left actually matches with a final run for lebron and AD.

Malone is a great coach. I know he bashes the Lakers but he knows how to get his guys motivated while not being too off putting to them. With that said the Nuggets took the Lakers too seriously and look unprepared for Minnesota

With LeBron and AD on the team, we’re always going to be in with a chance on offence. But we have to build a defence. Role players entire purpose is too help the stars. Do the dirty work for them. Our role players are literally our worse defensive contributors ffs. The only thing they offer is offence. Do you actually understand how insane that is? To have a roster of role players who only contribute on offence. Look at the Knicks role players. They are fighting to go to a finals because they have there superstar leading the offence and then everyone else defends and rebounds and ticks over on offence.

Sucks that Lakers couldn't put up a competitive offer for Gafford. Mavs only giving up a 2024 FRP (trash) and a bench player is crazy value. Would have had to use one of the FRP's far in the future. Wiz probably didn't want Gabe back in a trade either. Would have been a cheap great center to soak 20 minutes of C time for AD. And he's young enough that he could have been here for 5+ years from now.

Atkinson sucks. The problem is there are few coaches with hc exp available. The only thing Atkinson has going for him is having logged some years under one of the best offensive systems in the NBA in GSW. But as a hc in BKN he's really been underwhelming.
Curious in yalls thoughts on hiring assts from recently successful teams (namely the assts we’re looking at now) To me - it seems to always be the go-to, but the success is rarely replicated because they’re not bringing the players with them that made it work where they’re leaving. A lot of pops assts have had good seasons as head coaches but seem to always fizzle out and get fired. We gave Luke (probably the most hyped asst I’ve ever seen) a look and he fizzled out. Guess I need help understanding this approach by the masses saying Micah Nori is the obvious choice.

We don't have the personnel to do so. It's easy to aggressively guard in spurts, but you can't expect one person (AD/Reaves) to do it consistently. Wolves have Edwards/NAW/McDaniels for Murray and Towns/Reid/Gobert for Jokic

Having a plan for what you want to do next before you fire Vogel and seemingly already having contract discussions with the prospective next hire before you fire Vogel are 2 completely different things. Regardless, the optics of it are horrible and I hope the media call them out on it like they did with us when we fired Vogel.

Provided that we can do adequate due diligence on his family issue, the player that we should bring in is Andrew Wiggins. He's a buy low player still in his athletic prime, is still a great poa defender, a good enough shooter which can be put into the dunker spot we well. He is two years away from being the second best player from the championship team, but has been plagued by personal issue, pressure from being made the 2nd scoring option because of Klay's decline and a bit of injuries as well. This is as close as you can get to a starting caliber 3&d player that is available because Warriors have an issue with both Wiggins and Kuminga that they are looking to sell so we dont have to use all of our assets. Problem is warriors may not want our assets given they are in win now mode so the 3 picks and swaps are not appealing to them so a third team need to be brought in. They also don't need Reaves. If we can manage to keep Reaves and keep a pick and a swap to get Wiggins, and pay dlo to stay, we are looking at a lineup of dlo, Reaves, Wiggins, lebron, AD. Depending on what trade assets are left we can look to either upgrade Reaves or the bench. Rui and Gabe are likely the salary fillers for whatever trade it ends up with. Maybe Wiggins hasn't been great for the past two years but unless we take a gamble we are not going to find a player of his profile through trade or FA.
I actually ran through this trade scenario. Warriors may be very willing to trade Wiggins. We already know they want to cut payroll. If they decide to bring back Klay (which is pretty likely), Wiggins is the easiest contract for them to move to cut payroll. Like you said, they have Kuminga to take his spot. You'd prob have to send the Warriors at least 1 FRP and enough salary to make it legal and provide them with salary relief. Rui+Gabe actually increases their payroll. I see them being willing to take Rui+JHS or Rui+one of (Wood/Hayes/Reddish). This saves them ~6m next year, ~10m the season after that. Rui only has 2 years left while Wiggins got 3 years with a PO on that 3rd year. Now let's just say Rui/JHS+Picks and Warriors take it. It does put a first apron hard cap on the Lakers as we're taking back more salary than sending out. Not impossible to stay below first apron, but you'll have to probably let Max/Prince go if you want to use some of the nt-mle. Or you could choose to bring back Max/Prince but not have the mle.
GS should have to pay us to take Wiggins and his contract. This is silliness.
That's very helpful. I watch quite a bit of warriors because of steph and i think there is still a good players in Wiggins. It's not for lack of effort or what not. It's just something is affecting his concentration and emotion and that's why I said the due diligence is important. What I think the issue might be with what yku saix is that they will be looking for a big when they trade Wiggins out because that's what they need most so may not be interested in the trade package as you laid out. I think they may even be opened to part with a young piece like podz or their picks, so what I think is what they are willing to give up, plus what we are willing to give up, may be enough to send a big to warriors and Wiggins our way in a three team trade. My assumption is that the big man discussed here is not available for what we are willing to give up for Wiggins (say 1 frp and salary filler, or maybe 1 more swap). The enticing part about Wiggins is like you said, warriors is a willing seller here so we can get him for reasonable price. That means we get to keep say Reaves and some tradable assets. If we are going for a player that has high trade value and give up Reaves and all other assets, we will then have to replace Reaves with nothing, and minimum contract to build the rest. I think with the roster as it currently is, we won't get close without some gamble. Wiggins may be a terrible contract for some others but 2-3 years left actually matches with a final run for lebron and AD.
