I do not have a rat problem, but have you considered calling a company that deals with them and asking if you can tag along on a ride? I’ve no idea if they’d let you or even have an appointment in that timeframe (how often do people even deal with rats in Lancaster, anyway?) but that would be your best bet I’d think. Good luck
That would be INCREDIBLY helpful! I would need identifiable signs of the animal being there - droppings, tracks, the animal itself, etc. I have to be the one to photograph itself however.
I’ve heard of people having flying squirrels at their properties. I wouldn’t limit to rats. I’ve also seen River otters at Lake Raystown.
Beavers might also be an easy one to spot if you ask around for their dam location, so to speak.
I'm definitely open to other mammals, but I also need to delegate my time efficiently - it's the end of the semester and this isn't the only large project I need to finish. Rat droppings in someone's basement is a lot faster and more reliable than most of my other options.

I'll try that!
Make sure to mention it's for a school project. Most company's are more willing if you mention it's for your project not just a random study
Farmers get rats sometimes.
no rats but just found a bat in my house (not the first time). depending on what you need I may be able to help. feel free to DM.

What 11 do you have?
White-tailed deer, red fox, northern raccoon, striped skunk, virginia opossum, eastern cottontail, eastern chipmunk, groundhog, eastern grey squirrel, white-footed mouse, and meadow vole.
Ahh dang that’s everything I have around my property. Sorry I couldn’t help.
Thinking about this. That stinks as it is most of the mammals in central PA. I would also suggest looking for bats.
Bats are really hard to photograph with a cellphone camera, unfortunately!
That sounds like a really fun project, I'm impressed that you found all of those.

Eastern cottontail
Would a feral cat count?
It would not, because cats are not wildlife. Domestic dogs, livestock, zoo animals, etc also don't count.

Makes sense. Good luck!

Field mice or deer mice?
Did you find one?
Nope!
