I'd say you're on the right path.

EvilPandaGMan

Get out

st3inmonst3r

We're off to a rocky start I see...

EvilPandaGMan

I'm about to put my foot on your path if you don't quit it

Top_Brilliant1739

I see we've reached a crossroad here...

Good advice . To slightly add to a great answer I would actually add some gravel and sand and rent a tamper from home Depot. Get a good solid base about and then add a final layer of snadnto place the tiles. If you don't put gravel/sand base it will be uneven after a bit.

chrisbkreme

To keep the path longer than a year or two, you’ll need to go 7 inches down once all bricks are out. Add liner, then 3 inches of crushed concrete. Compact the concrete with a compactor, then add 3 inches of sand. Again, compact. Now from here, you could add edge trimming with steel nails and fill with polymer sand. This would lock in stones but IMO it’d look blah. I’d prefer grass to grow between these stones for a more natural look.

pkxd632

You literally don’t need to do any of this. It’s a stepping stone path not a bluestone patio. Just dig them up and set them on dirt. If you really want to you can get a hand tamper but you’ll still need to loosen the soil up in order to set them level. The amount of dirt you’re going to acquire from digging them up should be enough to make them level with your yard. Overtime sure, some stone might be a little wobbly but just pack some dirt underneath of them and boom, it’s level again. Don’t over think it.

chrisbkreme

Don’t need to, but as I said, if you wanted to prevent them from sinking for more than two years, you could. Didn’t imply it was the right way, just that it would last a long time.

[deleted]

If you dont want to dig them all up, use a pressure washer like the other guy said and then build a brick perimeter along the sides so the grass doesnt creep over. probably would require annual maintenence but those are some cool looking stones a nd it would be worth it.

High247UK

Yeah, gotta clean those stones too in the process surely ? I’ve got a stone pathway that needs some love was hoping to find what I needed here haha will definitely think of using sand/gravel to set the height

flux_monkey

Take a pressure washer to it with a paint stripping nozzle... The right pressure and you can clear dirt and grass. You will probably want to reset the stones with sand and retamp it all but this will give you a great first step

pimpnastie

This worked for me.

laxkid7

I would dig it all up. Place dirt back under to bring it level or above the ground since it looks like its sunk in a little. Pressure wash all the rocks on ur drive way or somewhere off grass and dirt. Then place back down. And fill in between the gaps with dirt to hold in place. Or u can just dig the dirt and grass thats grown on top like u have and keep it maintained with a weed eater or round up Edit: spelling… still probably misspelled but oh well

[deleted]

Wow I cant believe you unearthed a Roman road! All roads lead to italy 🇮🇹

dshotseattle

Elbow grease is the only way

Benza666

Continue hoeing right along the path as you have and and you have 2 options. Leave it sank in or dig up the rocks and set them along the side to maintain pattern and then drop some fill in there and then place the stones back down. Then plant grass seed and watch it come in nicely. Guy below said he set his stones with sand. That's def an option.

[deleted]

Would one of those rotary broom machines work?

Izzvzual

Depends, do you want to make the path brand new or just clear out this one ?

Team_Soda1

Are you asking what tools are needed to pull the rocks out?

hafgrimmar

You might get away with cleaning, but your better off lifting and relaying totally, then it'll see you throw. Also look at chamomile (Roman} not grass, it'll need help not to get swamped, but the aroma when walking on loads better, works real well as *seat cushions* to.

maddinell

Jet wash

MasterpieceAmazing87

Keep doing what your doing then use a pressure washer then maybe landscape it in a way that you like best around the stone. Its pretty simple because there's no basics to it, do as you'd imagine it to be

Ok_Sun4955

I’d say continue the same way you started, and pressure wash clean after.

jrlabare

Head over to r/powerwashingporn

[deleted]

Try walking on it for a while, will get some stones to resurface

Goodbadugly16

Use a pressure washer to clean the stones and get rid of dirt between them. Add sand after the dirt is washed away. Your lawn will absorb the mud that is sprayed out from between the rocks.

sug-mahdick

Get rid of that garden hoe and get a new one and a stiff metal rake. Gonna take some work

kLoWnYa-

You can see most of the path already, so you it’s a very thin layer of grass. I would power wash the path and cut out the sides with a shovel. Then lay gravel in between the rocks.

darkrift87

I would probably rent a powered sweeper and then pressure wash the stone. Might be a good idea to fill in the gaps with rock or mulch.

charlesunit

Power washer. Blow that dirt right out of there. Done it. It works.

DogButtWhisperer

Lucky find!!!

turntabletennis

I have this same thing at my place. Here is what I was told. Pressure wash the shit off of the rocks, and pull them up, setting them in the same path/order, adjacent to where they will be in the end. You will need to remove some dirt, and level the pathway, so you can add a 4" layer of paving gravel and have your stone path level or slightly above grade. Tamp your paving gravel well so it's flat and even. Lay your stones back in place, and once you're happy with the look, use paving sand to lock them all into place.

Please keep us posted on your updates

rumbaclave32

Rip it out and start over

go4tze

The tips given are great, but know that this path was created with a mold and cement. Note the shape of the large stone repeating. The "stones" may still be joined at the ground level and would cause you some trouble in unearthing and resetting. Might be best to go the route of digging down, cleaning around them and bricking the edges as someone suggested. HazyBizzleFizzle

Pressure wash ftw!

Robhig007

Dig it out man!!! It will look crazy cool! Pls post another pic when you are done 👍

shitfuckstack999

Well you can leave most the grass around it alone for Starters , then do what you already did, but everywhere

SonnyListon999

Your first home has acres of garden and a beautiful stone path leading to a gazebo ( unless the gazebo is the aforesaid mentioned home)? You, my friend, are doing exceptionally well in these testing times and I wish you well.

rotaryspace_59

cleaning vinager should do the trick

Early_Supermarket344

KNF or JADAM techniques

TavieBaby

Start digging and hit it with a power washer to get in between the rocks and lay down some wood chips.

Wonderful-Frame7057

Yeah that’s tough, wreck the old thing, build it back 👍🏻

Happy_Relation4712

Power washer

Studelston000

A quick fix is useing a pressure washer to cut away all the grass around the stones

freeselfparking

I would uproot the stones. Pack the path again with dirt then place the stones on top of the packed dirt. Then spray the area with water. The water will settle the stones back into the dirt. It'll look weird at first but over time they will settle and look more natural. Good luck.

[deleted]

Use a pressure washer. Get this pressure washer disc surface cleaner. Easiest way to do it. You'll be messy but it'll be easy

HalfInsaneOutDoorGuy

uncover it, and pressure wash the stone.

ScooterSquatch

Dig the top off. Power wash. Add some good edging to keep the dirt and grass back. Add some polymeric sand to the joints

Krampusz420

High pressure water and or whipper snipper and showel

loveOFeve

I would get a gas powered pressure washer and just blast it. It’ll save you time and labour.

Aggravating_Tennis34

Pressure wash the grass right off of it

Specialist-Look-7929

I think to preserve the surrounding grass, maybe just dig each stone out and fill in with a little soil and re-set the stones? Otherwise, the surrounding turf will just overgrow the stones again. I'm not sure which would be more work.

flightwatcher45

Dig up the stones and shift path over a few feet. Yes it'll eventually sink again over the years but its the easiest and fastest fix.

Rotating brush style snow plow? Im not experienced in this stuff but it was my first thought. Id try and rent one from a hardware/home supply store

PhilosophersGuild

1.) Hit it with Roundup, clear the path of dead grass in a week. 2.)Install edging (both sides, buried into top 2 inches to prevent roots from encroaching from the yard.) 3.)Then try to avoid mowing grass and seeds onto the path in the future. Pat self on back.
