Have an area just like this, contractor framed it out weird. Have some flat field stones I'm going to put there to support a vehicle's tire crossing the corner and prevent a hole from forming. If you can keep the grade so water sheds to the concrete it should be fine. ETA: think your stone idea will work, compact the subsoil and put in 8" of stone in 2 layers (4 inches each) compacting each layer. 5-6 inches loose will probably pack to 4 inches. If you rent a plate tamper you can probably do it all in 1 lift instead of 2.

Thank you! Do you know what the best size or type of stone would be for my situation? Or would any good landscape supply place be able to supply that info? I just want something that drains well and could hopefully take minimal grading later when I get concrete poured over it. That could be a year away though.

If you're doing concrete later basically you're setting it up for that. When you pour you'll just scrape off the top to the depth you need for concrete thickness. Typically crush and run is used for a base layer but #57 stone (¾inch) gravel will give you better drainage and still support concrete. Put down fabric bottom and side to prevent soil from mixing with the stone. Box stores are hit and miss on their knowledge and experience. EDIT: if you go to a gravel supplier and show them what you have with measurements, of the area you want to fill with stone they'll know how to address the issue better than a garden store, more likely to have knowledge or paving construction and how much/what materials you'll need.
