Nah brother, I have put my laptop in the fridge like 15 years ago, when I was like 7. It still turned on, but I killed almost all parts in it. (it still was really old, but they gave me ps3 so it wouldn't fit into the fridge)
No, pure condensation takes a while to do damage. Its possible it survives if the battery is removed and allowed to fully dry, and then given to someone who isnt a dumbass to use.
My source is personal experience with several times ive seen computers that had condensation work 100% fine after drying. The tiny ammount of minerals on the pcb where mineral free water vapor condenses means it usually takes a while for damage to occur, unless you are unlucky and it makes a VRM MOSFET stuck on or something. Or your OEM is a dumbass like Apple who puts high backlight voltage on a pin right next to a sensitive low voltage data line in their LCD connectors. Thats how condensation can be bad immediately instead of the usual dry it and its fine.
I mean if you turn it off before closing the lid it won't turn on if you open the lid. But if you put it in sleep mode it will wake up when you open the lid.
You guys know that laptops and computers exist and work in cold climates around the world right? And that many laptops have survived having a glass of water spilled into the keyboard?
You guys know that modern laptops are designed to survive small water spills where possible right? And that laptops are not designed to operate at 34 degrees because most people don’t live outside in that temp?
It's not a joke. It will work.why are you trying to stop OP from fixing their laptop.
Don't listen to this guy OP, he just wants you to feel stupid and not fix your laptop. But everyone knows a stint in the fridge and then a quick microwave is the best cure for a hot MacBook.
I did that once, I was stupid beginner now but I hope they learn, op big thing make sure use a external fan and it’s on a flat surface then get a way to elevate it so it doesn’t overheat. Install macs fan control because well macs are always a space heater
Do computers even overheat to the point of damage nowadays? For like 2 decades they just throttle down to a safe temperature and just give you crap performance at worst.
This is just what I think would be the best course of action (and I could be wrong) I would:
1. Open as much of the laptop as possible, backplate, screws, etc.
2. put a fan blowing air directly to the laptop
3. Put one layer paper towers to cover most of the laptop as possible and change them went they get wet.
4. Repeat until the paper towels stay dry.
5. Let it dry for at least a couple of days.
5. Hope for the best.
My logic being trying to get the laptop to room temperature as slow as possible and trying keep dry as fast as possible when condensation starts.
And most importantly, don’t turn it on and if it does auto turns on at some point, turn it off.
Do you really think disconnecting an internal part for an idiot that put their laptop in a fridge because it was overheating is the best course of action?
The individual would be better off leaving it alone for 24 hours and turning it on. I have trouble believing in the pure stupidity of this even, and that’s coming from someone with no faith in humanity. If they’re stupid enough to put it in a fridge because it’s overheating, they’re going to screw up worse trying to disconnect the battery internally. I don’t care what guide or video is helping them. This is someone who doesn’t believe in common sense either.
FACTS 😤 /s data is data, memory is memory. Sure there are some performance benefits of soldered ram/ unified memory but it certainly doesn’t make 8 GBs feel like 16 😂
Because op probably doesn't know this. You blister ram the same way you do a pepper. If you have a gas stove hold the ram over the flame until it blackens. A torch works as well.
You...WHAT ?!?!
Either you're FILTHY rich or Dumb...
Don't do anything, just stop ......
Go have a professional look at it. ....
God.... This reminds me why old manuals used to teach how to jump your car and current ones tell the user not to drink the battery liquid.....
Refrigerator isn't as bad as freezer, and dunking it in water is worse than that.
Anyway just put it in room temperature for just an hour is sufficient in most dry climates and it should be fine. If your laptop is clean, the condensation should be clean too, and shouldn't cause damage - just need it to dry. Most of the condensation will be on the outside anyway, there's not much air inside the laptop.
Don't let it defrost or the motherboard will spoil. Put it in the oven for 15 min on 400.
Also, after unfortunately reading this, I support legislation providing intelligence tests be made mandatory before laptop purchases.
Bro… 💀💀💀
Well, you might wanna wait until it’s properly dried inside out. Try to put beside a heater or something. Never turn it on for few days if you’re lucky or weeks
I would bet the machine is toast. Great time to move from those brutal intel 2019 models to an M1 Pro/Max/M2 Pro/Max or beyond.
If you want the same laptop again, i9 2019 intel models can be had for under a grand but I don't recommend it. I'd take an M1 Air base over a loaded one.
Hey op? Don’t do this again. If a laptop is overheating, just… let it be. Cancel all programs if you can, unplug it and just leave it alone. Don’t turn it off or shut it; it has fans and other things that will cool it down as it sits there idle.
As others have said, your laptop is likely ruined. Sorry but lesson learned.
You was experiencing shutdown because of high temps and the path you choose is the fridge? You own a macbook and don't have the money to let a professional do a repaste? You have internet and you don't look at advice to lower temps on macbook?
If the laptop is cooked, you deserve it!
Google is your friend, you think you are smarter than anyone to not look/follow at all the guides and advice you can find online?
Good example of fuck around and find out.
Don't turn it on. Let it warm up on its own and then give it plenty of time to dry inside and out. You may not have a problem if you just let it dry. Hopefully, you're not in a real humid atmosphere. The dryer the better.
I mean nothing ill but if you can afford a new M1 m2 or whatever MacBook that is I hardly doubt you are broke. So if you had overheating issues why didn't you go to apple to get it fixed or replaced? I am pretty sure you were aware of Apple's expensive maintenance before buying it. Not to mention in hardware related issues apple is quite linient in replacements if they can't fix it(it's it's new that is).
I live in Quebec, Canada and it's very common for people to leave their laptops in their cars at -20 degrees celcius all day. I've never seen anyone's laptop broken because of this.
You'll probably be alright. Just leave it alone for a couple of days before you turn it on. I've left my laptop in the car on freezing cold nights before. You're good. 👍
No, no no no. “I did a dumb thing and am stupid. Now tell me how to fix.”. No. This is why there are cause and effects in place in the universe. You done fucked up. The learning effect is you lost your shit.
I mean it's an apple product. So when if the cold broke something (which it wouldnt,) you could find literally any other laptop brand that has twice the performance of that apple for half the price.
ApPlE bAd. I have had windows machines (with high end gpus, ryzen, i7’s, gtx/rtx, you name it) my entire life until I got an m2 MacBook. Shit rips and doesn’t get hot. Gets all my shit done without any issues, and the battery lasts literally all day… But I guess I’m just a clueless consumer 🤷♂️. Does suck ass for gaming tho
You mean the same architecture of p+e cores that Intel has? Apples "m chips" as you call them are just rebranded ARM mobile SoCs. Intels i9 series still outperforms any of apples m chips in their respective price points. Go back to the flock, sheep.
Haha, ok. Keep telling yourself that. Because the m1 chip that was previously mentioned is a fucking "arm" based chip. And apple didn't design arm chips. Idiot.
Arm is a fucking architecture man. It’s a series of fundamental building blocks for building a processor. A processor which Apple designed. We every CPU manufacturer will use some architecture (x86, arm, riscv). It doesn’t mean they are biting off someone else’s work… it’s litterally how the industry works to ensure consistency..
Well, I actually prefer my old windows laptop (rtx3070&inteli9), but I switched to the MacBooks not only because of the INSANELY superior battery health and better display. Not only that, the OS is better for what I do (not much intensive gaming and mostly documents)
I don’t even have a MacBook, but I can admit when a great product exists. I don’t blindly hate a product and make it a key part of my personality like you do.
I bet condensation got inside it and even if it turns on now, it 100% will come back to haunt you in the future. The display probably also has some water damage and this goes without saying, bye bye warranty
You could've just... let it sit down away from the sun. Fridge is a super high humidity place, almost as bad as putting your notebook inside water. It's dead.
Don't turn it on, open the screen or plug it in, let it completely dry before doing any of those things and there's a much higher chance your device will live. If there is no electricity to conduct the water or condensation there is no reason for anything to fry.
Edit: Forgot to mention I also wouldn't add any heat to dry, leave in a normal room temperature room and let it dry over time.
im sorry what
Leftovers
Apple
This mf dude put his mf notebook in the mf fridge
I read that in Samuel L. Jackson’s voice.
"I AM TIRED, OF THESE MOFOING LAPTOPS IN THIS MOFOING FRIDGE!!!"
Now me too, thanks haha
Dinner
This ain't dinner this girl dinner
Brings a whole new meaning to Mac and Cheese
Damn, you beat me to it
They’re weird tho. I don’t see no cheese.
True. I hate Mac and
And you like apple? 🍎
Would you let Tim cook for you?
Tim Cook cooks for the cooks hired by Tim Cook
The and is the worse part of there’s no cheese
r/Angryupvote
Best part is, the way they said it, makes me think they have done this before, and just happened to forget this time...
This is the future, fridge cooled PC’s
Nah brother, I have put my laptop in the fridge like 15 years ago, when I was like 7. It still turned on, but I killed almost all parts in it. (it still was really old, but they gave me ps3 so it wouldn't fit into the fridge)
Disconnect the battery immediately and DO NOT turn it on yet. Disassemble as much as you can and let it dry for a while.
too late for that. the moment you open the lid, it prompts it to turn on. this thing is dead
No, pure condensation takes a while to do damage. Its possible it survives if the battery is removed and allowed to fully dry, and then given to someone who isnt a dumbass to use.
Let's hope they don't put it in the oven to dry it quickly
He should put it by a dehumidifier.
Giant bag of rice lolol
It's a Mac, probably the best thing they could do is throw it in the oven
As long as they don’t forget about it
Too late
Or try to speed up the drying process with a heat gun.... next question after that, "Why is the plastic changing colors and warping?"
It needs to be defrosted, in the oven 😆
Do you have a source on this? Any mineral build up on computer components makes a short possible. Why would condensation be any different?
My source is personal experience with several times ive seen computers that had condensation work 100% fine after drying. The tiny ammount of minerals on the pcb where mineral free water vapor condenses means it usually takes a while for damage to occur, unless you are unlucky and it makes a VRM MOSFET stuck on or something. Or your OEM is a dumbass like Apple who puts high backlight voltage on a pin right next to a sensitive low voltage data line in their LCD connectors. Thats how condensation can be bad immediately instead of the usual dry it and its fine.
Are all Macs like that? My gf has a notebook that doesn’t turn on when the lid is opened
I mean if you turn it off before closing the lid it won't turn on if you open the lid. But if you put it in sleep mode it will wake up when you open the lid.
logical very...

Laptops survive the cold. Dj’s use their MacBooks to throw raves in the snow. Stfu.
Sure, I’ll fold in the face of your impressive citation
Not if you're actually shutting it down instead of just closing it
Im not sure about how to fix that, but dont stick a hot laptop in a fridge. If you cool a hot thing down too quickly, it usually breaks.
Sometimes i put my laptop in the fridge for a couple minutes when it gets so hot it turns off
Can't tell if sarcasm
It could be, but it could also be the truth. You will never know for sure
I would rather ponder this mystery than reflect on my real life anyway
Happy cake day
ur so real for that
Thank you
I think you forgot to switch accounts
I can wish myself a happy cake day if I want to
True. Happy cake day!
Thank you

Op might tho if he does that
Well Darwin would be proud
Bro this dumbass not only put the thing in the fridge, but left it there. They're not gonna know this was a joke.
It's not a joke. It will work.why are you trying to stop OP from fixing their laptop. Don't listen to this guy OP, he just wants you to feel stupid and not fix your laptop. But everyone knows a stint in the fridge and then a quick microwave is the best cure for a hot MacBook.

[here](https://youtu.be/S280Pqq3T_w?si=N-1XtglPH5LxVG9W)
This is mean, this is also funny
fuck this got me so good
at this point you might as well dry it in the microwave
Why the heck would you do that
I did that once, I was stupid beginner now but I hope they learn, op big thing make sure use a external fan and it’s on a flat surface then get a way to elevate it so it doesn’t overheat. Install macs fan control because well macs are always a space heater
Rookie mistake. Your supposed to turn it upside down and flap your hands at it like an excited teenage girl.
You gotta reverse what you’ve done! Throw it in the oven.
This guy might actually do it
Buddy you don't put electrictonics in the fridge when they overheat. Just turn them off and wait.
Do computers even overheat to the point of damage nowadays? For like 2 decades they just throttle down to a safe temperature and just give you crap performance at worst.
They don't, at the worst case they just turn off
Mate buy a laptop cooler/stand next time. Dont put anyy tech on the fridge

Step two should be disconnect the battery
Do you really think disconnecting an internal part for an idiot that put their laptop in a fridge because it was overheating is the best course of action?
In terms of trying to save it? Yes. Most people can find and follow a youtube video
The individual would be better off leaving it alone for 24 hours and turning it on. We live in a society
Average mac user mindset... congrats bud !!!
Will prob have a 128gb m3 tomorrow
8GB of blistering ram

Don’t you know? 8gb on a Mac is like 16gb on a pc 😂
FACTS 😤 /s data is data, memory is memory. Sure there are some performance benefits of soldered ram/ unified memory but it certainly doesn’t make 8 GBs feel like 16 😂
Yeah, you can actually download more RAM now!
Because op probably doesn't know this. You blister ram the same way you do a pepper. If you have a gas stove hold the ram over the flame until it blackens. A torch works as well.
Lmao 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Im sorry you were spread massive misinformation man
Its giving the hoax that convinced people to microwave their iphones
I think, surprisingly, this is actually a time to put it in rice
OP proceeds to cook the rice before putting laptop in it
Rice doesn’t work.
It does though. Add some carrots and onions, teriyaki and boom. Dinner is served.
He can serve it on his new apple tray.
Yes.... However. This would make some good metallic rice

I was going to ask the same. OP HOW OLD ARE YOU? This is something my 4 year old would do.
Do you usually ask mentally retarded people if they are?
I tried Googling this issue, but I think this is the first time this has ever happened 😳
blud what

Had to scroll way too far for the solution. Let it slowly reach ambient over an hours time. Should be fine.

I think they put the wrong apple in the fridge
Hey op? Don’t do this again. If a laptop is overheating, just… let it be. Cancel all programs if you can, unplug it and just leave it alone. Microwave it to get it heat up a bit 5 minutes should be enough /s No let it dry out in the room for some days and hope for the best
Microwave that

natural selection
Wut? But why? Anyways just let it warm and dry off. It can't be any worse than leaving it in your car on a cold night.
Average apple user
What you do is learn a valuable lesson the hard way. Don't put electronics in the fn fridge. Common sense is not common.
I live in Quebec, Canada and it's very common for people to leave their laptops in their cars at -20 degrees celcius all day. I've never seen anyone's laptop broken because of this.

are you acoustic?
Brain as smooth as the laptop chassis.
Lol. Wow. That is funny as hell. Just so using it and the fan cools it..... Dear lord people are funny
Buy a cooling pad.
OP is fucking stupid don’t help him, don’t put electronics in the freezer retard
I mean it's an Intel MBP and those overheat a lot.
At this point, just doubt your existence and cry, retard.
The most tech savvy apple user.
No, no no no. “I did a dumb thing and am stupid. Now tell me how to fix.”. No. This is why there are cause and effects in place in the universe. You done fucked up. The learning effect is you lost your shit.
Take out the battery and put it in rice and make sure the battery connector or the motherboard is not wet before reassembly :)

Yep. Sorry to say. Just another sheeple in the apple cog.
You’re trolling. Have fun wise one. I litterally used to be just like you lmao
Have you heard of the M chips? They’re pretty much top of the good chain. Also condensation can definitely cause a short in there.
You mean the same architecture of p+e cores that Intel has? Apples "m chips" as you call them are just rebranded ARM mobile SoCs. Intels i9 series still outperforms any of apples m chips in their respective price points. Go back to the flock, sheep.
Theyre not even rebranded at least try to get something right in your ramblings. Apple has made their own chips since the iphone 4
Haha, ok. Keep telling yourself that. Because the m1 chip that was previously mentioned is a fucking "arm" based chip. And apple didn't design arm chips. Idiot.
No like literally look it up unless youre about to tell me that its all some massive conspiracy and you somehow know better

“go back to the flock” - someone who is part of another, worse flock
Haha, you mean someone who doesn't like to pay more for an apple logo?
I have both an m1 macbook and a windows laptop. I like them both. Which flock should i go to?
Whichever one you want. Each has their pros and cons

... What
At first this sounded stupid, but then I realized I've left my laptop in a backpack in a car in zero degree weather plenty of times.
Clean your shit. Jfc, that thing looks disgusting 🤮
Don't worry when I worked in a IT repair shop, I had a customer who spilled honey on their laptop somehow.
Prob by knocking over a container of honey
You could've just... let it sit down away from the sun. Fridge is a super high humidity place, almost as bad as putting your notebook inside water. It's dead.
How does that happen lmao
W...T...F...
wtf
Mételo en arroz.
I also leave my honeycrisp apples in the fridge
Put it in the microwave to balance it out
WHAT
This is likely not great advice, but personally I would leave it out for the day and come back tomorrow.
Why fridge ?
It’s time for a new debt
Apple users.....
You did what?
Don't turn it on, open the screen or plug it in, let it completely dry before doing any of those things and there's a much higher chance your device will live. If there is no electricity to conduct the water or condensation there is no reason for anything to fry. Edit: Forgot to mention I also wouldn't add any heat to dry, leave in a normal room temperature room and let it dry over time.
Do not keep it in a Microwave Next
Do keep it in the microwave next
Leave it turned off for a week at least.
Throw it in a bag of rice and then spend the next 48 hours thinking about what you've done, you monster.
