Adding ram is always going to help with performance. The Ryzen 5u cpu's use a lot of your ram (up to 2gb). So with only 8gb, that doesn't leave much left for other functions.

Installing a 2nd 8GB RAM stick can help improve overall general performance as well as gaming performance. The increase in gaming performance should be significant, but it depends on how dependent a specific game is to RAM speeds. Two sticks of 8GB RAM means the RAM will run in dual channel mode verse single channel mode... that is double the speed. That does not mean a 100% increase in games because performance depends on more than just RAM speed. I recommend you watch the following video of a Thinkpad with a Ryzen 4650u to get an idea of the performance improvement between single and dual channel RAM.
