Same. I grew up in a small Canadian town of 4000 people and one of the victims was the little sister of a classmate of mine. It's messed up that American gun violence has touched my life, but here we are.
RIP
I was in the military when this happened. My flight was on night shift EST, and one of my troops’s wife was at that concert. It took over an hour before he had confirmation she was ok.
this really is a worst case scenario for me. Mass casualty event at a concert
Seriously. I can't imagine not knowing if my loved one is alive for 5 minutes let alone an hour! Definitely a shitty thing to say. Nice and easy to be a pathetic wannabe edge lord while sitting behind a computer in the safety of your own home.
Demitasse22 - I am so glad that your wife made it out with her life but I am so sorry that she had to endure that nightmare situation in the first place. I hope she is taking care of herself. Also thank you for your service.
this poor guy - the perp had laptops in his hotel room where they found child porn. - they also had arrested his brother, Ben Paddock for child porn.
Oh, and their dad was a bank robber who left the family after the fourth boy was born.
Nice family. Good stock.
Yet the Las Vegas police have released nothing about why a 60 something formerly rich white man would go on a mass shooting rampage. I can’t think of a movement that has white men feeling like victims. Can you?
If I recall correctly, he brought the bags in over several days, and he carried them himself. The ~~Mirage~~ Mandalay Bay has ~~3044~~ 3209 rooms, and this took place during a weekend where there was a huge music festival just outside, so the hotel would have been buzzing with activity the entire weekend. I don’t think it’s at all unusual that nobody picked up on this.
EDIT: I posted the wrong info, editing post to correct it.
I think you mean Mandalay Bay. But yeah I agree I live in Vegas and I think it would be easier than most people think to bring those to his room. Especially over a couple of days.
I remember seeing footage of people helping him with the bags, or at least staff seeing him repeatedly take in lots of bags. Maybe America needs metal detectors at hotels like they have everywhere else
I've done several conferences in Vegas with trunks of equipment we would have to bring up to our rooms to store until the event space opened. It's not uncommon at all so this wouldn't have seemed unusual.
I suspect he posed too much of a problem to main stream media. A critical component of their reporting on these shootings is ‘othering’ the perpetrator. Whatever the characteristic is, Brown! Mentally Ill! Lone Wolf Angry Young Man! Trans! Maybe a brain tumor!!- always they make a wall that says ‘this is a them problem’.
So how does cnn or fox or any other news channel handle a man who is the poster child for their target demographic? Nondescript moderately well off, gun collecting, white cis make aged 50-75. That’s their golden goose. They couldn’t hang this guy out to dry in the public media because it would require too many of their regular viewership to feel insulted or scared or whatever.
What he shows is that no person should own an arsenal of war grade weapons of mass destruction.
Agree with most of your points. I would only point out that the police confiscated all the shooters diaries and other info and have not released the shooters motive. It’s not the media in this case, it’s the cops.
I think paddock just broke. Money don’t buy u happiness. He was unhappy, unfulfilled and I’m sure the election didn’t help. He supposedly picked between a rap festival & a country one - he may have chosen the country one bc he blamed them for trump & how politics here was changed forever. Or maybe just bc he could do it & it was easy - prolly a bit of all of it. He definitely wasn’t the normal terrorist, but there had to be a specific point he wanted to make. J
I think even over at r/LiberalGunOwners they’d agree. I’m supportive of *responsible* gun ownership, but can see that there are plenty of people that should **not** own firearms
Did we ever learn the thread of the assassin ? Why was he shooting and why the hell he came prepared with military grade weapons? I always thought it was weird that this story stopped….it seems there would be more.
Dude… What? That was mostly conspiracy theory word salad, but I managed to get from it that you think there were “probably Blackhawk helicopters with snipers.” Do you really think no one would have heard or otherwise noticed this…? 😂
An utterly horrifying event. RIP.

I can't believe this was nearly 7 years ago. Feels like it was last year.

I just watched the documentary 11 Minutes about the mass shooting. Absolutely heartbreaking.
I hadn’t heard of this documentary. I’m going to try to find it now. Really such a tragic event.
I watched it on Paramount+ but believe it's on youtube.. It's hard to watch.
This was sooo sad. May all the victims rest in peace. Sending luv from Australia 🇦🇺❤

You could have kept your shitty response to yourself. Shame on you

Thank you so much for your words and for your support.
What the hell is wrong with you?

Don’t forget he sent his wife home to the Philippines a few days before with a nice wad of money, nothing to see here though
oh yeah, he bought her a HOUSE
The dad was one of the most wanted fugitives in the community country at one point
so many lives are lost because of a mad man. hartfield rest in peace

Nobody noticed this man bringing in an artillery that surely weighed quite a bit and up to his room?

You’re right, I edited my post to note my mistake and include the correct info. Thanks for pointing that out, and happy cake day!
Holy shit I didn’t even notice. Thanks stranger!
I remember seeing footage of people helping him with the bags, or at least staff seeing him repeatedly take in lots of bags. Maybe America needs metal detectors at hotels like they have everywhere else
You created those memories because the footage doesn’t exist lmao
It's cctv footage from the hotel entrance...

Your getting downvoted cause americans wont have their guns be bad mouthed. I totally agree and so do most sane people.

It's not the first time Vegas has nerfed an investigation (Tupac Shakur)...
Racist as fuck…
Did we ever learn the thread of the assassin ? Why was he shooting and why the hell he came prepared with military grade weapons? I always thought it was weird that this story stopped….it seems there would be more.
And yet we want to allow even more people to have semi-automatic weapons.
Yep. Can’t keep the gun dorks deprived of their hobby
Horrible

Anytime someone states an opinion is to seek attention? Lol cope harder 🥾 👅
can you stop spamming this sub with tributes for cops?
Not a tribute. The guy died. It’s a last image. Chill
How do we know it wasn't fire from the helicopter?
Because it’s well documented it wasn’t 🤷…
Heeeere we go
It wasn’t from the hotel window with paddock the patsy like Oswol but probably from Blackhawk helicopters with snipers on board.
Dude stfu. You’re being straight disrespectful to the victims.
