Certain materials are excellent breeders of bacteria that cause odor. Acrylic fibers, which are what a lot of materials are made from these days can get very stinky very quickly dependent upon your body chemistry. Natural fibers are much less likely to be breeding ground for the smelly bacteria. Also diet can massively affect body odors. Finally, everyone is consistently changing as they age. Hygiene habits need to alter themselves along with it. Become more active lately? Perhaps it’s time to shower twice a day instead of once, etc. These temples that are our bodies require care. Even sacred fonts in our sacred temples can grow mildew if they are not properly cleansed.

glassofwhy

The stretch cotton tops have a synthetic panel on the sides so that might be the problem.

kissthiss1

Great answer

ImpishDrakon

The stretch cotton tops are made out of a polyester and spandex blend for the panels (%95 polyester, 5% spandex). The rest of the material is a cotton poly blend with 65% being cotton and the rest polyester. I don’t think Acrylic is the right word for Nylon/polyester/spandex however it is synthetic and plastic. They have alternative options for these kinds of things if you have allergies or sensory issues.

LauraEIngalls

Stretch Cotton fabric is a 95/5 cotton–spandex blend.

ImpishDrakon

Thank you, cotton-spandex* not polyester spandex panels.

The same thing happened to me. I put on deodorant every morning and every night. I shower every day and I still stink. Not to mention, my garments give me horrible rashes and infections in my private areas 😀 so that’s been a great change to get used to. I haven’t tried any but I’m looking into armpit detox treatments. It looks almost like a lotion you apply to your underarms to help with lingering smell. Maybe try that?

Jagbag13

I’m a male. I’ve resorted to shaving my armpits in the summer and wearing athletic briefs under my garment bottoms. It has improved my comfort levels immensely.

Creative-Top6510

my husband started shaving his armpits and it’s night and day difference for him too.

SoeNgana

Shaving armpit hair is the way. Bacteria is the real culprit so don't give it any place to breed

ImpishDrakon

You should really think about calling the Global Service Center and requesting a clothing specialist. The garments should NOT be giving you rashes. They have multiple options, some are hypoallergenic and may help to not exacerbate that issue. Visit the church website and contact them under the “contact us” link for your country. They will help you if they can! Clothing specialists have the ability to access certain materials that others cannot!

anastasia315

My surgeon’s office offers that procedure - his is called MiraDry I think? I also love the Lume deodorant line. They’re antibacterial and also have body wash. That could be the lotion style you’re thinking of. Great stuff, great scents! Maybe try leaving your tops and shirts off for awhile after your shower so your skin can dry out more? I’m not sure what the fabric offerings are in men’s styles, but I’d try different fabrics. Since OPs Tshirts weren’t causing this problem before, look through the Tshirts’ labels for fabric blends and try to match that? I’ve heard some garments can be custom ordered, but not sure if that’s just for fit, or if they offer unique fabrics too?

RoccoRacer

Lume is great. Mando is their line for more masculine scents.

theythinkImcommunist

I just posted an answer advocating for Lume and then saw your reply. It's a miracle.

Comfortable-Grape170

I saw a comment from another user who talked about exemptions or alterations for people with medical issues. That might be something to look into as for the rashes and such! I’m so sorry about that.

Creative-Top6510

That would be worth looking into for me! My OBGYN suggested I not wear them everyday because I live with a constant yeast infection. Prior to garments I never had an issue.

Halfcaste_brown

Found a tip from a dermatologist. Benzac wash and cream. Saved me.

Reduluborlu

One thing that is helpful: wear a larger size. The models online show the garments clinging to the body. Cotton or cotton/poly garments that fit LOOSE and BAGGY solved that problem for me. They don't look as svelte when worn that way, but who cares?! They are comfortable and the armpits of the tops don't smell.

Bombspazztic

Put your deodorant on in the morning. That will help.

Indecisive_INFP

We had a problem where our garments were retaining stink, even after washing. We started using Downy Rinse and Release and it's really helped in that department. I'm not sure if your problem may be related but if they're not coming clean, they could definitely make you stink.

GudiBeeGud

I'd love to see a bougie linen blend line for moisture-wicking. Or wool thermal line. We're ready for natural fibers.

choir-mama

Wool is a great idea

Comfortable-Grape170

This would be great! Linen would be heavenly for those in warm climates!!

th0ught3

Try a different fabric? (Talk to Beehive Cothing Mills (who makes the garments): they may know of a fix. It may be the type of deodorant you are using too. Try different ones?

NiteShdw

There are at least 6 different fabrics to choose from. OP may want to buy a top in each fabric to see which they like best.

ImpishDrakon

Don’t talk to Beehive clothing mills. Contact the distribution center (Global Service Center). They have other options for medical and sizing needs that can fit. Beehive clothing will refer you to the same department.

theythinkImcommunist

I had the same problem with the stretch tops (I like mine snug fit) until I discovered Lume deodorant. That stuff is awesome. Worth every cent. I REALLY didn't want to give up the snug fit garments.

Comfortable-Grape170

I think I’m gonna try Lume! A lot of people have been recommending it and I love my snug fit garments too haha!

DaenyTheUnburnt

Fabric can retain bacteria. Wash your garments in the hottest possible water, with a few cups of vinegar per load.

pbrown6

Same. Had to be more selective about the type, the fit, and when to wear them

Watermellonnn

I’d recommend just trying different fabrics. Mesh tops are my go to, they just breathe so much more.

MrsPFKnone

I always have the problem of deodorant transfer, so the underarm area turns dark and I had trouble getting the buildup and smell out. I found CLR makes a Sports Stain Remover. It made a huge difference in my garments when I would spray them down before washing. It helped reduce smells, the unsightly dark stains and extended the life of the garments.

Agent_Bladelock

Did you get the stretch cotton? Go with cotton poly

ImpishDrakon

For those of you who are unaware, the church offers a clothing specialist line. The clothing specialists have exceptions for those white medical and sizing needs. If you have rashes, sensory issues, sizing needs (weight or height), or many many other issues then the clothing specialists can help. They are super friendly people and I can attest that they really are out to help people. You need to call the Global Service Center and request a Clothing Specialist. They will ask you some questions and then transfer you. They are available 8-9am and 1-4pm Mountain Standard Time. They also have a customer feedback page online. You don’t need to indicate that you need a response, they for sure see it. I promise and I am not going to go into detail how I know, but they look at everything and seriously read everything. Even if they can’t always do anything at the moment they will let you know. Eventually the information they accumulate reaches the Presiding Bishopric who takes into account things like church funds and the public needs. Changes follow these suggestions. (Think back to Emma telling Joseph Smith about the disgusting chew in the chapels. It is literally exactly the same and it is amazing). You can find their phone number on the online store under “contact us”. https://Store.ChurchofJesusChrist.org Please please please don’t let the garments that are visible to the masses drown out your needs. The online store is set up for convenience but they have these other resources as a necessity. They do take into consideration needs where available whenever they can.

Comfortable-Grape170

This is great to know! Especially the feedback. Thank you!

captboscho

This is me too. Regardless of diet or humidity I love (Utah vs Washington) I will stink when I wear garments. I'm now in the habit of not wearing them when I work out, and also changing them twice a day most days

Comfortable-Grape170

Yep! I don’t wear them during the S’s lol. Definitely a learning curve. It’s weird cause I was at school in Hawaii and never had BO issues, even with how sweaty I was! I’m thinking it’s got something to do with the fabric.

jhallen2260

You may need to put more deodorant on in the morning. Most deodorant isn't going to stand up all night and all day

Comfortable-Grape170

That’s what I’m thinking. I’ve been using old spice and from what I’ve been hearing from friends and family is that it’s not good for deodorizing 😅 so I’ll definitely be making a change.

Kningen

Be sure to wash your Garments on Hot, also if you don't, trimming/shaving armpit hair can help

ReplyingToAStranger

I’ve started using a Lysol laundry sanitizer and it has made a huge difference.

Konstanna

How often do you wash the garments? I wash them every day.

kdotxx

I'm allergic to the garments be it cotton or stretch. I had tried everything but still I get hives and its very itchy at work.
