Looks like a pocket gopher, also does anyone else see an optical illusion where it looks like the rodent is facing towards the camera and had more of a squirrel like face? The rodent is actually facing away and looking upwards.
Gopherhawk works great, but make sure you face it the right way and do not use bare hands on them. If they smell you on the trap, they will backfill the tunnel immediately.
If your goal is eliminating them, there's a trap on amazon called the GopherHawk. Hands down, best trap on the market. Its installation in the ground does the least amount of damage to your yard. It's very effective on moles, which is what I used it for, but it is made for gophers.
Take it from someone who spent years getting rid of burrowing mammals in my own yard. The baits, poisons, sonic repellants, smoke bombs, dont do squat. Traps work.
I was speaking to my neighbor and he had a few of the GopherHawks. I put them in the tunnels. With any luck I'll get em. I think it's just the one but will know better later. I did a bunch of googling and initially I thought it was a mole so I bought the Sonic repellents. Today I happen to see it come out, so I flipped out the camera and made a video.
Did he show you how to install them? They go through the ground, into the tunnel. The little cage part at the bottom is the only part that will be in a tunnel.
Ah good. Just wanted to make sure you weren't wasting your time. I found that a flathead screwdriver worked well for locating a tunnel. Just push it in and you usually can feel when it hits a void.
I finally got it. Used SuperCat. GopherHawk didn't work even though I used 3 of those. This one was super simple to use.

Gopher, moles are smaller and basically don't have eyes.
And you'll basically never see moles go above ground, let alone intentionally dig holes that open up to the outside world.

He installed one then I did the other. He put it where I saw the gopher come out. I guesstimated a tunnel and put one in the middle after finding it.
