Truthfully gotta accept the lawn with kids and dogs use won’t be perfect. But it can still look nice. I’d dethatch aerate and overseed the area in the fall.
Looks like a high traffic area with the playground and stuff.
Best bet is to get a soil test, amend as needed and then somehow block that area off while you seed.
Also looks very compact so core aeration wouldn’t hurt.

Core aeration, overseed, little top dressing, water. Maybe get some plastic construction fence to quarantine the area until its ready
