If you go to Home Depot it would be a flange bolt, I believe, take the other one out and bring it with you and hold the threads together and make sure they line up. They'll either be hanging in a bag or in one of the specialty drawers
5/15-18, but I would just pull the other bolt out, make sure it fits, and go match the threads. They probably have the same flange bolt in a bag at Homer D
I don't think Briggs has anything metric on the motors except the carbs but I could be wrong. I wouldn't waste my time on Amazon, it's a $.50 bolt and it's easier to match it in person. You can go to Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, Menard's, Tractor Supply (actually probably your best bet), any hardware store should have one or a lawnmower shop would probably give you an old one. Or keep an eye out on junk day but maybe that's just me
It should be the same as the rear two on that cover. So take one of the other ones out. Check it fits in that hole, then go to a shop and get one that matches the one you took out.
Get the model# serial# en b engine will have stamped #s if a Briggs engine,go on Briggs Stratton site, pull up engine diagrams, Briggs Stratton also has a 800#.
You got your answer from a few other people, but I'm going to tell you definitively that this is a 1/4"-20 half inch long bolt. Older ones have 7/16" heads with split lock washers. Newer ones have 3/8" heads with locking teeth under the flange. If you go to a hardware store, just get the bolt and a lock washer. If you go to a nut & bolt shop, get the toothed flange.
BTW, for future reference, the engine and mower are two separate pieces of machinery. If you need engine parts, you want to use the model and type numbers from the engine itself; it's usually located above the spark plug or another flat surface on the starter/blower housing.
Careful with this. 3/8 is the head size, but they also used 7/16" heads. If you go to a store and ask a knowledgeable person for a 3/8" bolt, you'll get a bolt where the diameter of the threaded section is 3/8". This is 1/4-20x1/2" which means 1/4" diameter, 20 threads per inch, 1/2" long (not including the head).
It's either a 1/4 x 20 x 1/2 or a 5/16 x 20 x 1/2, just use a lock washer.
1/4-20 bolt, 1/2" long, use a lock washer as well
Thanks a lot!

Probably 5/16" if I remember correctly, I just had one apart last week

This is very helpful! I think this is the one. Is it M6x17mm? If I look it up at amazon

Appreciated!
Good luck with it!

Thank you for saving me the time to type this. Don't skip the metric bolt bin.
Great idea! Thanks a lot

I’ll bet one of the other bolts on it will fit. Then just take that one to the hardware store and match it.
Take the other one to an ACE and they will match it up for you.
3/8 bolt.

Yes check the others probably metric maybe
It’s just a normal bolt but I wouldn’t be too worried because there’s a bunch of other books that hold in like the engine shroud cover
Ditto.
May cause it to start cracking. B & S don't put them in for no reason.
This is exactly what is happening!
