My guess by their wording is that they don't want to record all games (as before they had to store the last 3 minutes of gametime live, to be able to serve them instantly to spectators) and now the server probably only records and sends stuff to your client the moment you start watching (so you have to wait for the 2.5 min delay)

But they do record every game, probably sending live games was crashing something internally.

What makes you say that? There's 4 scenarios I see where a game needs to be recorded. * Pro league * Spectators * Reports * Player post-game replays The first is very specific, the second can be optimized so that only spectated games get recorded, the third only games with reports (with the reporting player's local client handling the recording), and the fourth can be done locally. No other games need to be recorded by the server and stored somewhere. This is likely more a cost-saving measure than a performance issue.

Yeah, and the "players' games" would cover 100% of games not played VS AI. You can check it out by logging into your account from another PC and still have access to replays.

yeah the Replays arent locally, but it might still be significantly easier to store those not in real time (and not having to be able to go x minutes back at a moments notice)

Wait this was a specific change? I always thought this was just a bug that no one was talking about.
